00:00Picture driving in Los Angeles and it probably looks like this.
00:04Bumper to bumper traffic with seemingly no end in sight.
00:08By reputation, La La Land has the worst traffic in the world on plane display in the movie of the
00:15same name.
00:16But all the comedians mocking Tinseltown's traffic are actually wrong.
00:21There are numerous measures for traffic and Los Angeles is not the worst in almost all of them.
00:27Enrix, one of the world's foremost leaders in transportation data and insights, releases an annual scorecard.
00:34And in the latest edition, LA dropped from 8th to 10th.
00:39Nat Gale, the company's head of product, has been working in Los Angeles traffic for more than a decade and
00:45knows it as well as anyone.
00:47So we're still in the top 10, but, you know, there are a couple of US cities ahead of us
00:51there.
00:51Chicago, New York, even Philadelphia are ahead of Los Angeles.
00:55I do think there is a positive story there around ways in which here in Los Angeles we've tried to
01:01manage our congestion.
01:02In what we call express lanes, where you actually pay to access a faster flowing lane of traffic.
01:09What happened is, when you applied a price to a particular trip, people started making different choices, right?
01:14They avoided the area, they decided to take transit, right?
01:18And, you know, that actually did, like, relieve congestion.
01:22So, you know, that actually did, like, relieve congestion.
