00:00People often associate guns with a more conservative demographic, but we found women, people of color, queer people who were
00:08seeking out these gun clubs and guns in general because they feel threatened. Can you talk a little bit about
00:14that?
00:14I think it's why Marie Claire wanted to report this package in the first place 10 years ago. We recognized
00:21that the stereotypical image that we had of a gun owner was not being accurately portrayed. And I think that's
00:31still the case here, that we have an image in our mind of who a gun owner is when in
00:37reality, this goes without saying, demographics are not monoliths and people have very different and nuanced.
00:44Opinions. And I think we just classically have not seen that because the spaces that existed for so long were
00:53focused on the stereotypical gun owner and people didn't feel safe going there. We had an expert in one of
01:00our stories speak to this, like, yeah, LGBTQ people are largely arming themselves because they don't feel safe.
01:07And they don't feel safe from who we have in our mind as the stereotypical gun owner, which just to
01:16say the quiet part out loud are white men. So it's like they don't feel comfortable there. So they weren't
01:22represented. And we didn't see people like this in the narrative.
01:26And we didn't see people like this in the narrative.
