00:10I was in university before, I was doing a Bachelor of Social Science majoring in Criminology.
00:15It was my first year of university I decided I wanted to become a police officer and then
00:20just throughout my next two years at uni I really solidified doing Criminology.
00:25I was originally applying to university to a Bachelor of Education and because at the
00:31time it was super popular they ended up putting me in a social science bridging course and
00:38I had to choose a major so I chose Criminology.
00:41I have police in my family so it was always kind of in the back of my head I guess
00:47but
00:48yeah it was definitely during that first year that I really started thinking about it because
00:54it was in in front of me all the time doing Criminology.
00:56So my dad is a leading senior constable, he was working at Lake Illawarra but he's since
01:04changed to radio text but he's been really helpful during this.
01:08My brother is a constable, same station, he's helped like giving me a lot of encouragement
01:14rather than guidance but because he thinks I can do everything by myself so but yeah they've
01:20been really helpful.
01:20It's been an experience, definitely something you wouldn't experience anywhere else I'd say.
01:28You get to do some really cool stuff here but I think the best part of it is meeting people,
01:36like everyone's like-minded and you meet some really great friends.
01:39I'm quite excited to become an actual police officer.
01:41Like the realisation of everything becoming, you know, right now, so close yet so far you
01:48know.
01:48But I'm really excited to help people like in a meaningful way, in a real way.
01:54I've been placed at Bay and Basin, which is not too far away from my house but I haven't
01:59really been there before.
02:00I was more looking towards Narra but Bay and Basin seems like a really interesting place,
02:04I've had good things about it.
02:06I'm excited to get into like looking into forensics, like the crime scene side of it and maybe looking
02:13at detectives as well.
02:15It just depends which, I don't know, it takes my fancy a bit more.
02:18You can try everything and the cops anyway so.
02:20I've been told a lot that you should try everything, like if you get an opportunity to try, I don't
02:26know, just work with a detective, you should go with it.
02:29If you get an opportunity to sit with the highway, go with it.
02:33Just experience everything.
02:59Go ahead.
03:02Go ahead.
03:31Go ahead.
03:34Listen it up.Ã¥tga
03:51Go ahead!
03:58You should be here, you can see quite early.
04:28Before I joined the Police Academy I did cabinet making for six years, completed my apprenticeship.
04:35I decided to join the police, it's always been on the back of my mind, just got over
04:44cabinet making, got very repetitive and I thought it was my next step to join the police.
04:51My whole life, I've been thinking about joining the police for my whole life, I just wanted
04:55to get my trade first.
04:57My dad was in the police, he was in the job for 40 years, he was stationed in Byron Bay.
05:04My oldest brother is in the police in Tasmania with his wife and I've got another brother
05:12as well in the New South Wales Police.
05:14It's been really helpful being able to keep in contact with them and ask them questions
05:18and advice, especially with the prac scenarios and yeah, it's like I really appreciate their
05:25help throughout my time.
05:27Initially, in day one I was really nervous, especially going through the 16 weeks online
05:34and then being face to face with it all, I was really nervous, wasn't extremely confident,
05:41but after the past 16 weeks I was, I'm like really confident, especially with the help
05:47with my family and like it's been hard being away from my family for so long, but we, like
05:54I got there in the end and I'm proud of myself and proud of everyone around.
05:59Yeah, I'm really excited to be a police officer, nervous but excited, scared of the unknown,
06:07but it's, it's a long time coming.
06:09So I've been placed back in my hometown, like in Lismore, I've always wanted to do regional
06:15policing over Metro, I just feel like we've got a better connection with that, like out
06:21in the country, because I'm from Lismore as well, like I've, I guess, I know how they've
06:29gone through the 2022 floods, like I was pretty affected by the floods, my sister's farm went
06:34under and yeah, I feel like I'd be, I'd have a really good connection with the people of
06:41Lismore.
06:42Uh, I, I just think if, if you, if you think about joining, just to give it a red hot
06:48crack
06:48and the people you meet down here, you'll have friends for the rest of your life.
06:54Yeah, these 16 weeks have been the best 16 weeks of my life from the weapons classes to
07:01even the, the theory classes, it's, it's been, yeah, the best 16 weeks and the friends I've
07:09made, I'll have for the rest of my life.
07:40Yeah.
07:43Yeah.
07:48Yeah.
07:49Yeah.
