00:01:04I'm very excited.
00:01:05My name is Jordan McCullough.
00:01:07I'm 27, and I'm from Murfreesboro, Tennessee.
00:01:09Where'd you grow up performing at?
00:01:11In church.
00:01:12That's where I got my start.
00:01:13I didn't know that any of this was a possibility
00:01:16outside of the choir stand.
00:01:17So just four years old, I was singing in the choir.
00:01:20And yeah, that's where it started.
00:01:22Very cool.
00:01:22All right.
00:01:23Well, what are you going to sing today?
00:01:24Well, we're going to bring the choir stand here,
00:01:25and I'm going to sing Goodness of God.
00:01:27Yay!
00:01:28So good.
00:01:29All right.
00:01:36I love you, Lord.
00:01:42Oh, your mercy never failed me in all my days.
00:01:49I've been held in your head.
00:01:52From the moment that I wake up until I lay my head, oh, I will sing of the goodness of
00:02:07God.
00:02:11All my life, you have been faithful, oh, yes, you have.
00:02:19All my life, you have been so, so good with every breath that I have made, oh, oh, I will
00:02:34sing of the goodness of God.
00:02:39Yes, thank you, Lord.
00:02:43Yes, thank you, Lord.
00:02:43Your goodness running after, running after me.
00:02:50Your goodness is running after, running after me.
00:02:57Your goodness is running after, running after me.
00:02:57With my life slated, I'm surrendered now.
00:03:01I'll give you everything.
00:03:04I'll give you everything.
00:03:06Your goodness is running after, running after me.
00:03:18Thank you, thank you, thank you so much.
00:03:20Come on.
00:03:21That'll wake you up.
00:03:22Come on.
00:03:24Come on.
00:03:25What you think, Carrie?
00:03:27You were flying up out of that chair, levitating.
00:03:29I was.
00:03:30How can you not?
00:03:32You have been given an incredible gift.
00:03:35Wow.
00:03:36And I love that you use it.
00:03:38I mean, the first two words out of your mouth, it was like, ooh, oh, yeah, okay.
00:03:43I just had chills pretty much the whole time.
00:03:46So, it was really great.
00:03:47Your voice is big enough to fill up any room.
00:03:52Very classic sounding voice.
00:03:54Wow.
00:03:54The university has been waiting on you.
00:03:56Oh, my God.
00:03:57I'm telling you, it is one of those moments when we discover your talent.
00:04:03It's mesmerizing to watch you perform because it's not just standing there singing.
00:04:08You actually have stage presence, which is something we can't teach.
00:04:13Wow.
00:04:13It just felt like worship.
00:04:14Like, it didn't feel forced.
00:04:17No.
00:04:17It just felt like you were in the moment and we were in the moment with you.
00:04:20It's a big giant yes from me.
00:04:23No doubt about it.
00:04:24It is.
00:04:24I'm looking forward to all the goosies throughout the rest of it.

00:05:03Yeah.
00:05:03It feels really, really wild to be standing here just like Jamal Roberts did.
00:05:08And I feel like I've kind of passed the torch here.
00:05:10And I'm ready to carry it even further.
00:05:12I'm going to Hollywood week!

00:07:14I'd say rock.
00:07:15Yes!

00:09:37Wouldn't have in any other way. What kind of music do you play? I do a lot of?
00:09:42Everything but I really want to go for pop rock
00:09:45I've been in a lot of bands and I did harsh vocals and stuff like that
00:09:48So I will be singing today not doing that but what are you gonna sing for us? I'm gonna be
00:09:53doing creep. Cool. All right

00:10:25I am a Wayne
00:10:29I am a widow
00:10:33What the hell am I doing here?
00:10:38What the hell am I doing here?

00:10:59Oh, oh, oh, oh, she's running out, she runs, runs, runs, runs, oh, she runs.
00:11:31She runs, runs, but I'm a creep.
00:11:45I want more.
00:11:47Do you have a second song?
00:11:49You said you did like harsh vocals.
00:11:51I'm just curious.
00:11:52Um.
00:11:53What does harsh vocals mean?
00:11:55Like.
00:11:55Like screaming.
00:11:55Screaming, yeah, that's right.
00:11:56Like metal vocals.
00:11:59Let's do it. Okay, what is it the kill 30 seconds to Mars, okay?
00:12:05Okay, cool ready
00:12:11I try to be some

00:12:35I know
00:12:37Love it
00:12:59Don't do any more harsh vocals
00:13:01Yes
00:13:02She can do that without hurting herself
00:13:04Yes
00:13:05I'll bring a little edge
00:13:06Absolutely
00:13:07You know the bottom line is you're one of the best voices we've heard so far
00:13:12Yeah, yes, you just kept getting higher and then higher
00:13:16I'm thinking where does this voice end?
00:13:20I can just
00:13:21Oh my goodness
00:13:23Let's vote
00:13:24I'll go first. I want to decide
00:13:25Yes
00:13:27Yes
00:13:28You're one of my absolute favorites
00:13:31Top 30

00:13:50Thank you
00:13:50Have fun
00:14:09I've been looking for my rockers
00:14:10I'm like they're screaming
00:14:12So there's a technique you can do that and it's not
00:14:14Can you do it that way?
00:14:16Yes
00:14:17But I've never done such things outside of my car
00:14:29We come around the corner
00:14:31LaGrange, Georgia
00:14:32Where are all these folks around here, man?
00:14:35LaGrange
00:14:36Na-na-na-na-na-na-na-na-na-na-na-na-na-na-na-na-na-na-na-na
00:14:39-na-na
00:14:41I'm like that
00:14:43Oh, oh, oh, oh, oh
00:14:45ha, ha, ha
00:14:46ZZ Top?
00:14:47Really?
00:14:48Isn't that LaGrange?
00:14:50That's LaGrange
00:14:51All right
00:14:55Take a lift
00:14:57How are ya?
00:14:58Good, how are y'all?
00:14:59Good
00:14:59Well you came in so comfortable
00:15:02Very chill, man
00:15:03So, tell us who you are where you from
00:15:05your age? My name is Philman Lee. I'm from LaGrange, Georgia, and I'm 25 years old.
00:15:10That's right down the street from Tuskegee, shout out. There you go. What do you do for a living?
00:15:14So right now I'm in insurance sales. I do life insurance. It's all virtual. Talk with people
00:15:19all day long. Hello. Corlin, this is Philman. How you doing? I'm an insurance broker. I see
00:15:27where you inquired about some life insurance coverage pretty recently. I do insurance now,
00:15:37but that's not the end goal. I want to sing every single night if I can.
00:15:47I've been a musician my whole life. All credit really to my dad. He toured around with a gospel
00:15:53quartet group, and I was on a tour bus with him ever since I was like four years old.
00:15:57It definitely gave me a hunger. You know, even being a kid, that's what I want to do for the
00:16:01rest
00:16:01of my life. I've been trying all this time. I got into music after I dropped out of college,
00:16:06and I eventually ended up signing with a major label. Still can't climb the mountains of my mind.
00:16:12I was able to record a lot, and it looked like it was going to be pretty promising, and then
00:16:17COVID hit. It just kind of plateaued, and I got shelved. You know, I obviously wasn't making any money.
00:16:22That's when I picked up insurance. Don't worry, I'll be fine. But I still can't climb the mountains
00:16:29of my mind. My family, you know, they were there every step of the way. The nights that I would
00:16:33cry
00:16:34because I'm not singing, I'm not doing music, and I thought I would never have another chance at it.
00:16:39They were definitely there for every single one of those moments. I got faith in you, brother.
00:16:43You got it in you, baby. We've been in your corner all your life. We love you so much, little
00:16:49buddy.
00:16:49American Idol's another chance at doing what I love and getting my foot back in the door.
00:16:53I have a voice, and I want it to be heard.
00:17:07Come on now.
00:17:17When a man loves a woman
00:17:23Can't keep his mind on nothing else
00:17:29He'd treat the world
00:17:33The good things he's found
00:17:36The good things he's found
00:17:38If she is bad
00:17:41He can't see it
00:17:45She can do no harm
00:17:50Turn his back on his best friend
00:17:54If he puts her down
00:18:01He can do no harm
00:18:02When a man loves a woman
00:18:06When a man loves a woman
00:18:06When a man loves a woman
00:18:11I'll give you everything I've got
00:18:20Trying to hold on to your precious love
00:18:27And baby, baby, please don't treat me bad
00:18:37When a man loves a woman
00:18:43When I'm deep down in his soul
00:18:49She can bring you such mystery
00:19:01Wow.
00:19:03You know, there's a difference between bent down and broke down.
00:19:06You were in both conditions.
00:19:08I'm doing bad.
00:19:09I mean, you were down.
00:19:10You were down.
00:19:11I said, how low is he going to go?
00:19:13Oh, man.
00:19:14No, you wouldn't know.
00:19:15That was great interpretation, man.
00:19:17Carrie, what do you think about this?
00:19:18Wonderful gentleman.
00:19:20Surprising.
00:19:22Like you just walk in and you're just so chill and calm
00:19:25and then you open your mouth to sing, hands in your pockets.
00:19:29Sorry.
00:19:31No, you're good.
00:19:32I was like, is he going to...
00:19:33I'm going to have to go take his hands out of his pockets.
00:19:35I was pleasantly surprised.
00:19:38You can't learn what you just did.
00:19:40Regardless of whatever else you think you were trying to do,
00:19:43do more of that.
00:19:45Carrie reminded me of my mom.
00:19:47Take your hands out your pocket and look the folks straight in the face.
00:19:51That's all you need to do.
00:19:52In other words, now you have to become the character.
00:19:54Yes, sir.
00:19:55And if you're really, really lucky and blessed,
00:19:58you won't have to worry about insurance except on your voice.
00:20:00And that's going to be covering you.
00:20:02Sounds good to me.
00:20:03Luke?
00:20:04Luke, making another Georgia boy proud.
00:20:06Come on.
00:20:07We've had ten people today that look like they've been trained to sing.
00:20:11And you look like you were born to sing.
00:20:13Nah.
00:20:16The fun part about this business, we can't judge any book by any cover.
00:20:20We just have to let you sing.
00:20:22And then, man, when we get somebody like you, it's pretty dang exciting.
00:20:26Yeah.
00:20:26It made me cry, man.
00:20:28Yeah.
00:20:28It is now, I think it's your turn to shine.
00:20:31I think we should just take a vote.
00:20:33All right.
00:20:34Carrie, what do you think?
00:20:35Yes.
00:20:36Boom.
00:20:36Luke, what do you think?
00:20:38Yes.
00:20:38Boom.
00:20:39We're not selling insurance, but we're definitely selling tickets.
00:20:42Welcome to Hollywood Week, babes.
00:20:44Good job.
00:20:46Get down, baby.
00:20:47Let me start crying.
00:20:48I don't know.
00:20:49Georgia boy.
00:20:50Yes, sir.
00:20:55Here it comes.
00:21:01They're not, Jill.
00:21:10I had a lot of family and friends here with me today that have seen nothing but ups and downs.
00:21:16Definitely felt like music slowed down for me a lot, and I didn't see another way back into it.
00:21:21But I believe my life definitely changed with this audition.
00:21:24I'm going to Hollywood Week.
00:21:27Woo!
00:21:29Shout out to the insurance company I work for.
00:21:32Thank you all for the job, and I will be taking some time off.
00:21:37Simple play.
00:21:43You know what my mother used to stop and get me for breakfast?
00:21:47A 20-ounce Mountain Dew.
00:21:49Wow.
00:21:50And a sleeve of powdered donuts.
00:21:52Wow.
00:21:53Okay, we're about to start.
00:21:54Let's hold everything.
00:21:55Luke needs to have his breakfast burrito.
00:21:57The burrito.
00:21:58No, it's just arriving.
00:22:00It'll be 10 more minutes, everyone.
00:22:0210 more.
00:22:02Oh, my God.
00:22:03Must be blue.
00:22:04He's going to have a rushed burrito.
00:22:06Fast burrito.
00:22:07There's burrito, and then there's fast burrito.
00:22:10I'm going to have one more bite, and I'll be ready.
00:22:15Is there a napkin?
00:22:17Ah.
00:22:25Brrrr.
00:22:28Two seconds.
00:22:29Here we go, guys.
00:22:31All right.
00:22:32And here we go.
00:22:36We made it.
00:22:37Look at it!
00:22:38Ah!
00:22:41My name is Livvy.
00:22:42I'm 22 years old from a small town called Shinston, West Virginia, and I am a server at Texas Roadhouse.
00:22:48Everybody here.
00:22:49Uh-oh.
00:22:49Here we go.
00:22:51Yes!
00:22:52No one's going on.
00:22:53How are we doing today?
00:22:55My name's Livvy.
00:22:56Welcome to Texas Roadhouse.
00:22:57I'll be serving you.
00:22:58We're going to get y'all started with something to drink.
00:23:00We got some Coke products, sweet tea, and, Luke, we got that one margarita, two margaritas, three margaritas.
00:23:07Plenty of shots.
00:23:07You're going to break a shot?
00:23:08Oh, you got some peanuts.
00:23:10I do.
00:23:10Can I give them peanuts?
00:23:12Yes.
00:23:12Today for the judges, I'm bringing the energy, I'm bringing the roles, and I'm bringing my personality for them.
00:23:18That's not a server's out.
00:23:20Is that your outfit?
00:23:21Do you wear that?
00:23:21Oh, this is my outfit, you know?
00:23:23I got to look sexy for you guys.
00:23:24I got to look snazzy.
00:23:25You're making a mess, by the way.
00:23:28I've got it contained.
00:23:29This is so good.
00:23:30The main place I sing would have to be my job.
00:23:33We do a thing called give us a Texas size yeehaw for the birthdays.
00:23:37So I started singing happy birthday, and people were posting me on TikTok.
00:23:41Things were rolling up.
00:23:47Luke, I think my mom's about to have a heart attack.
00:23:50If she sees you, she thinks you're the sexiest man alive.
00:23:53Oh, no, mama.
00:23:55Oh, Luke, come on.
00:23:57Please.
00:23:58She said, on the way of her, she said, is Luke married?
00:24:01I said, yes, mom, he's married.
00:24:03He said, we ain't going to be married by the time I get in there.
00:24:05Oh, boy.
00:24:07You better get prepared.
00:24:08That little Italian woman's about to come get you.
00:24:11Security, security.
00:24:13Well, good deal.
00:24:14Well, what are you going to sing today?
00:24:16I'm singing Love Wins by Carrie Underwood.
00:24:19All right.
00:24:19All right.
00:24:20Let's hear it.
00:24:21Absolutely.
00:24:25He'll stop smacking.
00:24:28Oh.
00:24:36Straight bullet and a mama cries.
00:24:40Her baby won't be coming home tonight.
00:24:43Siren screaming down the avenue.
00:24:46Just another story on the evening news.
00:24:49Oh, and so it goes.
00:24:52But I hold on to hope and I won't let go.
00:24:56Cause I, I believe you and me are sisters and brothers.
00:25:03And I, I believe we're made to be here for each other.
00:25:10We'll never fall if we walk hand in hand.
00:25:13For the world that seems broken together again.
00:25:16Yeah, I, I, I believe in the end.
00:25:23Love wins.
00:25:27Love wins.
00:25:28Woo.
00:25:33Um, Carrie, is she pushing too hard?
00:25:35Might be a little bit.
00:25:37You, you have a, such a big instrument.
00:25:39And I feel like sometimes if you start off out of the gate going 100 miles an hour, there's
00:25:45nowhere left to go.
00:25:46Absolutely.
00:25:47Fredly, can we do a, play that chorus soft.
00:25:52Sing it soft one time.
00:25:55Absolutely.
00:25:55Real relax.
00:25:58I, I, I believe you and me are sisters and brothers.
00:26:05And I, I, I believe in the end.
00:26:11Love wins.
00:26:14That was so much more emotional.
00:26:18Oh my gosh.
00:26:20Hello.
00:26:20That was really nice.
00:26:22Was it enough for maybe you to eat both those?
00:26:25Can I have your biscuits?
00:26:28Get Lionel's.
00:26:29Give me Lionel's.
00:26:30You have enough.
00:26:32My vote is yes.
00:26:34I'm excited to see what you do next.
00:26:36And please show us all the sides.
00:26:39Your softer side, your powerful side.
00:26:41Yes for me.
00:26:42You're a queen.
00:26:42Oh my gosh.
00:26:43You're a queen.
00:26:43You're a good enough singer to not have to push so hard.
00:26:46Really focus on capturing the emotion like you don't on that second go around.
00:26:49I'm a yes.
00:26:50Oh, thank you.
00:26:51Thank you, Luke.
00:26:52Lionel, what are you?
00:26:53I'm full.
00:26:55I'm sorry.
00:26:56It is an absolute yes for me.
00:26:58Thank you, guys.
00:26:59And let me tell you something.
00:27:00And I mean this from the heart.
00:27:01You're a sweetheart.
00:27:02And if you just calm down and put that voice out there, you've got something magical.
00:27:07Thank you, Lionel.
00:27:09You need this.
00:27:11You're going to Hollywood.
00:27:12Oh my god.
00:27:13Yeah, my god.
00:27:15You.
00:27:16You.
00:27:16Remember, mama, mama.
00:27:17Mama.
00:27:18Here we go.
00:27:19Oh my god.
00:27:21Mama Maria.
00:27:22She got the chance to meet Luke.
00:27:23And I think Luke was a little scared.
00:27:25Oh my god.
00:27:25You see who that is?
00:27:27Wait.
00:27:30Get him.
00:27:30Oh, mama.
00:27:32Get him.
00:27:32He's been born.
00:27:34Oh my god.
00:27:35Thank you so much.
00:27:36Thank you so much.
00:27:43You know, I worked my butt off for this.
00:27:49Like, Gary Underwood, Gabby Barrett, all these people have held the stick and now look at them, like, now it's
00:27:54my turn, that's all I'm going to say.
00:27:56I'm ready to show the world what I can do and let's win this, baby, let's do it.
00:28:00We're going to Hollywood Week, let's give them a big ol' Texas sign, yee-haw!
00:28:13Hello, my name is Miyaka and I'm 24-year-old and I'm from Ukraine.
00:28:31I sing Japanese though, I don't speak Japanese for now, I'm still learning English.
00:28:37I can sing opera, rock, jazz, whatever, and I was thinking which style matches me the most.
00:28:42And when I started to work with an anime project, I felt like that.
00:29:03From the moment when I started singing, I knew for sure that I'm going to be on stage,
00:29:08that I have enough energy to have a stadium, to have a huge concert, and I really, really want to
00:29:13share this with you guys.
00:29:31I love her, I really love your energy, I love everything you're about, you are a star, you are a
00:29:43star.
00:29:43I thought it was very good, I love your energy, um, in this arena, we do not have an anime
00:29:53night.
00:29:54So, I'm not sure, this is the avenue, but we enjoy your uniqueness.
00:30:00If I could take your energy and cut it in half, if I could take your vocals and cut it
00:30:06in half.
00:30:07We put, the baby got back through.
00:30:09I like big butts, and I cannot lie.
00:30:13I like you, Trace.
00:30:15We got to check y'all's ears.
00:30:17We're not going to put her through?
00:30:18You're hitting on something.
00:30:20I'm hitting on a good point.
00:30:22When Luke has a, a moment, we recognize.
00:30:25This is my baby got back dude moment.
00:30:28There's show business, and then there's entertainment, and we don't want theater, we want that pop singer.
00:30:34I can do it.
00:30:41Um, I, I don't know.
00:30:44Hmm.
00:30:45Uh, I think the only way you're going to know what we're talking about is to put you in the
00:30:52class.
00:30:52You know what I'm thinking?
00:30:53I'm thinking we, don't, don't, don't, don't, don't, don't, don't, don't, don't, don't, don't put the muscle, don't put the
00:30:59muscle on, don't put the muscle on.
00:31:00Yeah, we're not trying to force Carrie into anything.
00:31:03What do you think, Carrie?
00:31:04You don't need me.
00:31:05Say it.
00:31:06You don't need me.
00:31:07Just say what your vote is.
00:31:09It's a no for me.
00:31:10Oh, what is our vote, Lionel?
00:31:13I'm a big old yes.
00:31:14I'm a big old yes.
00:31:15There you go.
00:31:16I go, yeah?
00:31:17You're going to Hollywood week.
00:31:18You're going to Hollywood week.
00:31:21Guys, we did it.
00:31:22Woo!
00:31:24I love it.
00:31:24Thanks for Kono Bull.
00:31:26I love it.
00:31:26I know, I love it.
00:31:27I love it.
00:31:28So for our next step, I definitely have one extra challenge.
00:31:31It's to get yes from Carrie.
00:31:37Hollywood week, I'm coming.
00:31:40Carrie, I know this has damaged our judging relationship just a wee bit.
00:31:46Year two with Carrie, she can dig her heels in.
00:31:49I would love to hang out with her.
00:31:50No, totally.
00:31:51She is like Miss Cheerleader, awesome.
00:31:53I did not find that entertaining.
00:31:55She is 1,000% comfortable in her role as a judge.
00:32:01Well, we'll just have to see what America wants to do.
00:32:04That's my thing.
00:32:05She's great.
00:32:06I like her.
00:32:07There were several times that me and Carrie, we kind of got at odds.
00:32:13Our brains just are working differently, which is great.
00:32:15It's definitely more than Baby Got Back, dudes.
00:32:18Y'all are mean.
00:32:20You would be one that by the end of it, it would be like, do you remember his first audition
00:32:25and look how far he's come.
00:32:27I'm a yes.
00:32:28I'm a no.
00:32:29Boo.
00:32:30That was great.
00:32:32She's going to fight for her kids and the talent.
00:32:35The kind of intro, emo, I just worry about that.
00:32:41Yeah, but he said he likes Fall Out Boy.
00:32:44I know, but...
00:32:45Do you do stuff like that that's like, you can start out all quiet and then the drums kick
00:32:49in and...
00:32:50I do.
00:32:51See?
00:32:51He does.
00:32:53I'm a no.
00:32:55Shocker.
00:32:56Shocker.
00:32:57If we disagree on something.
00:33:00Oh, are we going to beef?
00:33:02It's too late.
00:33:03You're going to have some flat tires.
00:33:06It's all in love, you know?
00:33:09Hello.
00:33:10Got a whole band with you, trio.
00:33:12All right, well, who are you?
00:33:14My name is Vincent Fondo.
00:33:15Well, who's your crew here?
00:33:17Well, this is my band.
00:33:18We've been together for 18 years.
00:33:19Where are you from?
00:33:20I'm from Cleveland, Ohio.
00:33:22What do you do up there in Cleveland?
00:33:23I do concrete with my brother, and I've created this band up there.
00:33:28What's the name of the band?
00:33:29It's named Recess.
00:33:30Recess?
00:33:31Yeah.
00:33:31We just think of it as like a break from every day.
00:33:34Awesome.
00:33:35What are you going to sing today?
00:33:36I'm going to sing an original song we actually wrote in 2019.
00:33:40We felt like we were going to break up, and instead of breaking up, we just came out with
00:33:45this song.
00:33:45Lionel and I thought we were going to break up in 2019.
00:33:48Never.
00:33:48We were going to stay together no matter what.
00:33:50Stronger than ever.
00:33:52Let's go.
00:33:53Let's go.
00:33:56When every minute heightens my confusion
00:34:00Till I can feel the fall from space
00:34:05How come you look so close like you're right in front of me?
00:34:11And if they say that time is an illusion
00:34:14Why can't you see it on my face?
00:34:20How come you look so close but you feel so far away?
00:34:33Oh, how come you look so close?
00:34:41Oh, how come you look so close?
00:34:47Oh, how come you look so close?
00:34:53Oh, how come you look so close?
00:34:55I know I'm halfway there but I'm just not close enough
00:35:03Oh, I know it's over
00:35:07But it just won't stop
00:35:10No
00:35:11Ringing in my ear and the sound of giving up
00:35:17Oh, and I know it's over
00:35:20But it's all I've got
00:35:25Ringing in my ear and the sound of giving up
00:35:37I'm really excited about you.
00:35:40You have this beautiful voice.
00:35:43I have no words.
00:35:45I'm a little on the other side of the fence.
00:35:48Are you serious?
00:35:49Yes.
00:35:50Are you serious?
00:35:51I mean, you've got big notes,
00:35:52but I thought when you're doing the tender stuff,
00:35:55it's almost not really connecting with me all the way.
00:35:58It's just not reaching in me and pulling emotions out right now.
00:36:02Thomas.
00:36:03Lionel, what you think about our concrete boy?
00:36:05Our concrete brother, yeah.
00:36:06Was that a concrete, solid performance?
00:36:08Concrete work may not be where you're going to end up with this thing.
00:36:11If you sound like an old seasoned guy with that voice,
00:36:14you know, you kind of know where you're going with that bad boy.
00:36:16It's a yes for me.
00:36:17Oh.
00:36:18It's a yes for me.
00:36:19It's already one line all over.
00:36:21You can see the headlines now.
00:36:22No, no, it's going to be a good season.
00:36:23Carrie and Luke at odds.
00:36:25I can vote.
00:36:27I'm a no.
00:36:28You are dead inside.
00:36:31It's a yes for me.
00:36:32The concrete boy looks like he has cemented himself.
00:36:37Wow.
00:36:38In the Hollywood Week.
00:36:39Congratulations.
00:36:39I'm going to give this to you.
00:36:40You're going to Hollywood Week, babe.
00:36:41You're getting a...
00:36:42And you get a hug.
00:36:43Express delivery from Carrie Underwood.
00:36:45Thank you so much.
00:36:47Congratulations.
00:36:48Very cool.
00:36:49Seeing Carrie and Luke at odds was very stunning.
00:36:52She never gets mad and mean at anything.
00:36:55I'm just glad Carrie was on my side and I was able to move through.
00:36:58Carrie's coming strong, okay?
00:37:00Watch him.
00:37:02Yeah!
00:37:04Carrie and I are already incapable of being in the room with one another.
00:37:11It's Nicki Minaj all over again.
00:37:13Oh, no, no, no.
00:37:23I am feeling very, very nervous.
00:37:26I've had the jitters all day.
00:37:29Were you ever nervous?
00:37:31Like on Idol?
00:37:31Yes.
00:37:32Of course.
00:37:33I was horrified.
00:37:34Were you nervous?
00:37:35A little bit.
00:37:36I've never done anything like this before.
00:37:39For me, if I'm slightly doubtful...
00:37:45Once I grab the mic, it's only one way.
00:37:50I've got to go that way.
00:37:51Or you're kind of a superpower.
00:37:53You just take charge.
00:37:53Well, that's the mark of an entertainer.
00:37:57That's a superstar because you're going to figure it out or you're not.
00:38:01Hopefully, I can impress the judges.
00:38:03I will be giving it my absolute all.
00:38:07Right this way.
00:38:09Hi.
00:38:09How are you?
00:38:11I'm great.
00:38:11I'm trying not to cry looking at you.
00:38:13No, no.
00:38:14Take your time.
00:38:15Take it all in.
00:38:16You guys are...
00:38:17Oh, my gosh.
00:38:19Oh, my God.
00:38:20Hello, you guys.
00:38:21How are you?
00:38:21How are you doing?
00:38:21Good to see you.
00:38:22I'm great.
00:38:23I had a bunch of, like, hand warmers strapped to my body just now, so I'm like...
00:38:27I know you picked the sleeveless shirt, right?
00:38:30Okay, listen.
00:38:30I'm new to Nashville.
00:38:32I've never been...
00:38:32So you're from...
00:38:33Phoenix, Arizona.
00:38:34Oh, Phoenix.
00:38:35Arizona, yeah.
00:38:36Have you ever been in weather this cold?
00:38:38No.
00:38:40Arizona doesn't get, like, below 50.
00:38:42All right, just back up.
00:38:44Tell us who you are and your age.
00:38:46My name is Lonnie.
00:38:47I'm 19 years old, and I'm currently in high school.
00:38:51Yeah, it was my first time on a plane.
00:38:54Did your family come with you?
00:38:55What is...
00:38:55Oh, I came alone.
00:38:56Came alone.
00:38:57Sorry, this is crazy.
00:38:58My dad loves you.
00:38:59I love you, and I really like you.
00:39:01I'm sorry.
00:39:02Anyways, yeah, I'm going to go ahead and start for you guys, because I'm taking up a lot of
00:39:06dollars.
00:39:06Yeah, okay.
00:39:07Good.
00:39:07No, no, no, no, you're doing great.
00:39:08We're just really learning about you.
00:39:10So, from Arizona to here, what was the leap of faith?
00:39:13I mean, American Idol, come on.
00:39:16My dad.
00:39:18He's in the ICU right now, so...
00:39:21Oh.
00:39:22So this is all for him.
00:39:24I'm doing this for him.
00:39:25He believed in me, and I'm here, and I want this more than ever now.
00:39:29Pick it up.
00:39:30Pick it up.
00:39:32I'm very insecure about my voice, but my dad believed in me when nobody else did.
00:39:37He saw it in me, even when I didn't see it myself.
00:39:40Got a second chance you could go home.
00:39:42My dad is the kindest person in the world, but at the same time, he was struggling with
00:39:48addiction since before I was born.
00:39:52There were so many nights, I would just cry from watching my dad stumble upstairs.
00:39:57Stars matter, see.
00:40:02And he would say, tonight's going to be my last drink, every day.
00:40:07You could still be what you want to, what you said you were.
00:40:12Recently, he has been getting better because he stopped.
00:40:15But he now has liver failure, and is currently awaiting a transplant.
00:40:24Um...
00:40:27I really want my dad to be in my future.
00:40:30But this could be my last chance to show him his daughter tried for him.
00:40:41I am going to be singing Tell Me You Love Me by Demi Lovato.
00:40:45So I hope you guys like it.
00:40:46Let's give it.
00:40:47Okay.
00:40:48Okay.
00:40:59Oh no, here we go again, fighting over what I said.
00:41:05I'm sorry.
00:41:07Yeah, I'm sorry.
00:41:09Bad at love.
00:41:11No, I'm not good at this.
00:41:13But I can't say I'm innocent.
00:41:16Not hardly.
00:41:18But I'm sorry.
00:41:21And all my friends, they know when it's true.
00:41:25Don't know who I am without you.
00:41:27I got it bad, baby.
00:41:30Got it bad.
00:41:32Oh, tell me you love me.
00:41:36I need someone.
00:41:39On days like this I do.
00:41:41On days like this.
00:41:43Oh, tell me you love me.
00:41:47I need someone.
00:41:50On days like this I do.
00:41:53On days like this.
00:41:55Oh, can you hear my heart say?
00:41:58Yeah.
00:41:59No.
00:42:26Oh, you ain't nobody.
00:42:29Oh, tell me you love me.
00:42:33I need someone.
00:42:36I need someone.
00:42:37On days like this I do.
00:42:38On days like this.
00:42:41Oh, tell me you love me.
00:42:44I need someone.
00:42:47On days like this I do.
00:42:50On days like this.
00:42:52Oh, can you hear my heart say?
00:43:00Wow.
00:43:01Okay.
00:43:02You have an incredible voice.
00:43:04I don't even know if you know what you could be capable of, but you completely owned that.
00:43:11That was awesome.
00:43:14Yeah.
00:43:15Some people's journey to get here is a lot harder than others.
00:43:19And yours has been a hard one.
00:43:21And you're just out here being so real and open with us.
00:43:26And you're not hiding anything.
00:43:28You're not trying to be something you're not.
00:43:30You're just being authentically you.
00:43:33And I don't know.
00:43:34There's just something really, really special about you.
00:43:37How brave you are to get on a plane and come out here and roll the dice and just sing
00:43:44your little heart out.
00:43:46It's what this show's about.
00:43:48Thank you so much.
00:43:49You got me all messed up over here in the corner.
00:43:52And so what you told us was about your dad and how you got here and, you know.
00:43:58And then you walked in this door with all this bubbling personality and gave us an artist.
00:44:07I think that's what we're kind of happy about.
00:44:09It's pretty uplifting to see the human spirit.
00:44:15And you're a perfect example of it.
00:44:19All right.
00:44:20I really want to see you go forward.
00:44:23It's a yes for me.
00:44:25It's a yes for me.
00:44:27It's a yes for me, too.
00:44:29Great job.
00:44:32I think, first of all, you're going to Hollywood week, but we're going to give you a group hug.
00:44:38Okay?
00:44:39This is yours.
00:44:40We'll see you in Hollywood week.
00:44:41Thank you so much, you guys.
00:44:45We love you.
00:44:48We love you.
00:44:49Thank you so much.
00:44:50We love you.
00:44:51All right.
00:44:51Thank you, guys.
00:44:53Oh, my gosh.
00:44:54We're the family.
00:44:55We're the family.
00:44:55Welcome to the family.
00:45:00Welcome to Hollywood.
00:45:06What do I do?
00:45:07I don't know what to do.
00:45:09Oh, my God.
00:45:11This is everything.
00:45:12Like, to you guys, it's just the card.
00:45:14But, like, this is, like, the beginning of everything.
00:45:24I don't know what to do.
00:45:45This is where my parade was.
00:45:47This is where they watched it.
00:45:50Take me back, come still in need.
00:45:54Will you walk in that door, I can get you?
00:45:56This is Melinda Duvall.
00:45:59Melinda, what's it like to be back?
00:46:01It is crazy.
00:46:02Yeah?
00:46:02But I'm really excited that Idol is on my home turf now.
00:46:05Obviously, you have a lot of talent.
00:46:07Do you think there's any left after we found you?
00:46:09There's so much.
00:46:10I mean, it's Music City.
00:46:11We should go out and just see if we can find any talent.
00:46:15Oh, let's do it.
00:46:16Right? Okay.
00:46:16Okay.
00:46:17Cameras, let's go.
00:46:18See what we can find on Belmont.
00:46:24Hello, everybody want to sing for us?
00:46:25We are auditioning for American Idol.
00:46:29We'll send you straight to the judges.
00:46:31I know you got class, but if you have a second, anybody.
00:46:34Come on.
00:46:35Okay, I'm ready.
00:46:36You want to sing something?
00:46:36Sure.
00:46:37You want to sing for us?
00:46:38Yes, ma'am, I got you.
00:46:39What you got?
00:46:40It's okay to think that you're better than me.
00:46:43I'm the obvious.
00:46:45I'm your number one, number one.
00:46:48What are you studying?
00:46:49Political science.
00:46:50You've got charm.
00:46:51Let's see who else.
00:46:56Don't you sing.
00:46:57I'm sorry.
00:46:58I hear that train coming.
00:47:00It's rolling around the bend.
00:47:01That was pretty good.
00:47:02Let's see what else we can find.
00:47:04Anybody.
00:47:06We got another.
00:47:07Hi.
00:47:07Ever thought about auditioning for American Idol?
00:47:10Uh, yes.
00:47:11Yes, I would love to.
00:47:12Do you have class?
00:47:13I do, but, like, this is more important than me.
00:47:15Let's meet you.
00:47:16Let's meet you.
00:47:17Meet you downstairs in the bar and heard your rolled up sleeves and your skull t-shirt.
00:47:25You say, what did you do with him today?
00:47:30Mm.
00:47:30And sniff me out like I was Tanqueray.
00:47:36Cause you're my fella, my guy.
00:47:40Hand me your Stella and fly.
00:47:43By the time I'm out the door.
00:47:48You tear a man down like Roger Moore.
00:47:53I told you I was trouble.
00:47:57And you know that I'm no good.
00:48:02All right.
00:48:04All right.
00:48:05All right.
00:48:05Carrie, what do you think?
00:48:07I mean, just listening to you sing, I feel like you can get some more air underneath you.
00:48:13those higher notes.
00:48:15And maybe, should you get the chance, surprise us next time with like a big vocal song.
00:48:20Yeah, okay.
00:48:21I love your vibe.
00:48:22I do worry about the bigness of your voice.
00:48:25But that doesn't mean I wouldn't want to roll the dice on you.
00:48:31Yeah.
00:48:32Ditto.
00:48:32I am just rolling the dice.
00:48:35It's a yes for me.
00:48:37Okay.
00:48:39Yes.
00:48:40Wow.
00:48:41Make it three.
00:48:44The enthusiasm paid off.
00:48:46This is the most unexpected thing to ever happen to me.
00:48:49Congratulations.
00:48:50You did it.
00:48:51Oh my God.
00:48:51And you missed class all in one day.
00:48:53Jackie Bluebird.
00:48:54I think she can get some more horsepower.
00:48:56Yeah.
00:48:57We're so happy that you crossed our paths when we were out here.
00:49:00I'm so glad you guys crossed my paths.
00:49:03Don't skip class unless you get an audition for American Idol.
00:49:07Ah!
00:49:07Yay!
00:49:09Don't you, honey?
00:49:10Don't you want me famous?
00:49:11Oh my gosh.
00:49:13Wow.
00:49:15This is beautiful.
00:49:20This is terrible.
00:49:22I'm Nyla Martin.
00:49:24I'm 17 years old.
00:49:25And I'm a junior in high school.
00:49:27When I say Nyla, you say Smila.
00:49:31Nyla.
00:49:32Nyla.
00:49:32Nyla.
00:49:33Nyla.
00:49:33Nyla.
00:49:34I've never really described myself to people before.
00:49:38But I would say, like, cool, calm, and collected.
00:49:45Maybe not today.
00:49:48Yeah, not today.
00:49:51My whole life has revolved around singing.
00:49:55I'm not really good at much else.
00:49:56Yeah, your character.
00:49:57Everywhere she goes, she's trying to sing.
00:49:59She gonna ask somebody random.
00:50:00And if they say no, she's still gonna sing.
00:50:04I've never met a famous person.
00:50:06So when I see them in person, I'm gonna be like,
00:50:08uh, like, I don't know.
00:50:10I really hope not.
00:50:11Because that would be embarrassing.
00:50:12But I'm gonna try to keep it cool and calm and collected.
00:50:16Hi, everyone.
00:50:17Hi.
00:50:18How are you?
00:50:19Nice to meet you guys.
00:50:20You too.
00:50:21I'm Nyla Martin.
00:50:22She went right there.
00:50:23She went right there.
00:50:25You just jumped right into it.
00:50:26It's so surreal to be here right now.
00:50:29I would, like, get my hair done by my clothes.
00:50:32My cousin on Sundays when the show would air.
00:50:34And, like, everyone would be singing and stuff like that.
00:50:37I would be like, oh, my gosh.
00:50:38I hope that can be me one day.
00:50:40Wow.
00:50:40And, um, this is crazy.
00:50:44Well, what will you be singing for us?
00:50:46I'll be singing Ain't No Way by Aretha Franklin.
00:50:49Wow.
00:50:49Okay.
00:50:50Take a deep breath, man.
00:50:52Take a deep breath.
00:50:52Wow.
00:50:58Ain't no way for me to love you, baby.
00:51:11If you won't let me, it ain't no way for me to give you all you need.
00:51:34If you won't let me, give all of me, yeah.
00:51:44And, if you need me to love you, say, say you do.
00:51:52Oh, cause, baby, baby, baby, don't you know that I need you?
00:52:03Oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh,
00:52:09oh.
00:52:09Oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh.
00:52:09I said it ain't, I said it ain't no way for me to love you.
00:52:16If you won't, if you won't let me, yeah.
00:52:39Yeah, incredible voice, absolutely.
00:52:42It's hard to believe you're 17 years old
00:52:44with an instrument like that.
00:52:47Thank you so much.
00:52:48There were some moments where you dialed it back
00:52:50and they were really beautiful notes, really nice.
00:52:53But you can tell singing means a lot to you
00:52:55and this moment means a lot to you.
00:52:57I almost want to see how much you can grow
00:52:59in this competition.
00:53:00I don't like that.
00:53:01She went 200,000 feet straight up
00:53:04and landed the plane all in one piece.
00:53:08God bless you with an instrument.
00:53:10But for me, it's a teaching moment
00:53:13that I really want to tell you about
00:53:14because curls, you have.
00:53:18Range, you have.
00:53:19If you had, let's say, an hour show,
00:53:23you just gave the whole show away in the first song.
00:53:26You could have done half of that
00:53:27and still walked out of here with the prize.
00:53:30If you could just learn to edit,
00:53:31I think you'd be well on your way.
00:53:36I'm a yes.
00:53:37Oh, no.
00:53:39Less is more.
00:53:40I'm a yes.
00:53:41Yay!
00:53:42Oh, Lord.
00:53:43It's a yes from me, too.
00:53:46Give her the zinger quick.
00:53:47Give her the zinger quick.
00:53:48I'm wrong.
00:53:48You're going to Hollywood week.
00:53:50Oh, my God.
00:53:52What is this coming around the park?
00:53:53Thank you so much.
00:53:54Oh, you did.
00:53:56Come on.
00:53:57Yes!
00:53:59Yes!
00:54:01Yes!
00:54:01Yes!
00:54:02Yes!
00:54:03How you doing, family?
00:54:05I'm so thankful for everybody here.
00:54:07Thank you guys for coming out to support me.
00:54:09I know where we're going.
00:54:12I'm going to Hollywood week!
00:54:15Woo!
00:54:15Woo!
00:54:16Woo!
00:54:18Woo!

00:54:23Woo!
00:54:24Woo!
00:54:24Woo!
00:54:26This is actually a working person's schedule.
00:54:28Like 9 to 5.
00:54:29It's like clock in, clock in, clock out.
00:54:31It's like 9 to 5.
00:54:31It's like real, real work.
00:54:33Yeah.
00:54:34Where's our pail?
00:54:35We need a lunch pail.
00:54:366 o'clock, wake up.
00:54:37A lunch pail.
00:54:37Thermos.
00:54:38Thermos full of coffee.
00:54:40All day long, we're working.
00:54:42Well, I'm a carpenter.
00:54:44I'm a spray foam technician.
00:54:45I'm manager for a plumbing company.
00:54:47I am a warehouse worker.
00:54:49I'm a plumber.
00:54:49I always tell everybody, the stinkier it is, the more money I make.
00:54:53So, yep, that's the truth.
00:54:57We manufacture spray foam on the spot.
00:54:59I feel like spray foam was a game changer to the insulation industry.
00:55:03It's the Ferrari of insulation.
00:55:06Definitely, yeah, for sure.
00:55:08It's great.
00:55:10Yeah, we know how to work, and we know how to breathe.
00:55:15I'm Christian Brown.
00:55:16I'm 22 years old, and I'm a delivery driver.
00:55:18How are y'all doing today?
00:55:19How you doing?
00:55:20Doing wonderful today.
00:55:22I'm ready to give y'all something today.
00:55:23We are ready.
00:55:24There we go.
00:55:24All right.
00:55:25Well, who are you?
00:55:26I'm Christian Brown.
00:55:27Christian Brown.
00:55:28I know this guy right here.
00:55:29Oh, you do?
00:55:30I do.
00:55:31My dad is country music singer, songwriter, Marty Brown, and he is well-known for the song,
00:55:37I'm From the Country, and I like it that way.
00:55:39We're from the country, and we like it that way.
00:55:43We put out three records in the 90s.
00:55:45He's played on the Grand Ole Opry stage.
00:55:47He's a member of the Kentucky Music Hall of Fame.
00:55:49He is, all in all, just a great songwriter, a great singer, and a great dad.
00:55:54We know how to work, and we know how to breathe.
00:55:57I'm from the country, and we like it that way.
00:56:01Everybody knows everybody.
00:56:05Everybody calls you friends.
00:56:07You don't need an invitation.
00:56:09A invitation, yeah, and kick off if you come on in.
00:56:13Come on in.
00:56:14Yeah, we know how to work, and we know how to breathe.
00:56:18We're from the country, and we're from the country.
00:56:21We're from the country, and we like it that way.
00:56:29I told you.
00:56:30There you go.
00:56:31Look out.
00:56:33Well, good deal.
00:56:34Well, Christian, what you going to sing for us today?
00:56:36Wildest Dreams that he wrote, actually.
00:56:38Love it.
00:56:39I'm singing Wildest Dreams that my dad had written.
00:56:42He had written that song about his children.
00:56:44It's a song about how much you love somebody.
00:56:47I'm going to be singing for my dad.
00:56:49It's my way of telling him I love him, too.
00:56:50I would not be where I am today without him.
00:56:55And only in a dream would I be feeling this way.
00:57:05And it would be a nightmare, lady, if you ever ran away.
00:57:16Because you are the reason for the way that I feel.
00:57:22Is this love a dream or is it for real?
00:57:27And if this is a dream, I'd sleep a thousand years and wake up to find you lying right here.
00:57:40Because in my wildest dreams, never would I believe you could love an old man like me.
00:57:57I'm just as calm as I can be.
00:58:04This love could only happen to me.
00:58:11In my wildest dreams, never would I believe you could love an old man like me.
00:58:39Yes, it really does.
00:58:40What do you think there, Lionel?
00:58:42Listen, I could take both of them on the road right now and make a lot of money.
00:58:45No, your enthusiasm on performing, I love.
00:58:49I want to hear more from your vocals.
00:58:51I'd love to give more to you.
00:58:53You have a surprising range to your voice.
00:58:55You hit like a high note that I was like, where'd that come from?
00:58:59Which is a weapon in your arsenal for sure.
00:59:02Thank you so much, Kerry.
00:59:03That means a lot coming from you.
00:59:05It does.
00:59:05Yeah, I think you definitely got all the tools to really see some rounds in this competition.
00:59:11I think really dig in more and more.
00:59:13It's a big time vocal competition.
00:59:17But I want to see you go after that.
00:59:19I want to see you grow.
00:59:20I'm a yes.
00:59:23Make that too.
00:59:24It's a yes for me.
00:59:26It's an absolute yes for me.
00:59:28You got three yeses.
00:59:29You're going to Hollywood week.
00:59:32And bring Marty with you.
00:59:33You want me to bring him with me?
00:59:35Yeah, it ain't fun.
00:59:36Woo!
00:59:37Yeah, yeah.
00:59:38That's fun.
00:59:40Good to see you, Marty.
00:59:41Take care, baby.
00:59:41Good to see you.
00:59:43Well, I'm going to tell you, I was moved.
00:59:46It just felt like I was...
00:59:47That fella, he made me feel like I was 22 again.
00:59:51I don't lie, boy, Marty.
00:59:52I love Marty.
00:59:53I love you.
00:59:53I love you.
00:59:54I love you very much.
00:59:55That's what this is all about.
00:59:56That's right.
00:59:56It's just a moment that we will have forever in our lives together as father and son.
01:00:01That's right.
01:00:03I'm going to Hollywood, baby.
01:00:05Woo!
01:00:05Woo!
01:00:06Woo!
01:00:08Woo!
01:00:08Woo!
01:00:11Woo!
01:00:13Woo!
01:00:14Woo!
01:00:14Woo!
01:00:14Woo!
01:00:22Woo!
01:00:24Woo!
01:00:24I've been writing songs as long as I can remember.
01:00:26The first one was when I was like five.
01:00:28So, what are you going to do for us?
01:00:30I'm going to play an original song that I wrote for my long-distance friends, and it's
01:00:34called, Long Live the Lost Boys.
01:00:36Okay.
01:00:37We're ready for you.
01:00:41She was by the window with adventure in her eyes, wondering while he's out there waiting
01:00:48on the other side.
01:00:49And he said, take my hand a knife.
01:00:52We'll teach you how to fly
01:00:55He said, I
01:00:56I can see it in your eyes
01:00:59Cause you're one of the misfits
01:01:01Always doing things that they don't get
01:01:03Tough from taking all of their worst hits
01:01:06Cause you won't fit into their mold
01:01:09So long live the lost boys running home
01:01:12And never let them tame your soul
01:01:15Long live the ones who never grow old
01:01:22That I'm going to tell you right now
01:01:24I'll buy the first copy
01:01:26I'm a fan of It Doesn't Fit
01:01:29It fits because it's you
01:01:31And your original song basically described you to a T
01:01:35Thank you
01:01:36It's a yes for me
01:01:37Thank you so much
01:01:39You are super duper unique
01:01:42But I'm trying to see where you would fit
01:01:46In the context of artists today
01:01:48And it's like, can we channel all of that uniqueness
01:01:52Into something where you can be
01:01:55You and your artistry
01:01:56But it also just makes total sense to the listener
01:02:01I could be right
01:02:02Or you could make me look real dumb someday
01:02:05I think I'm going to have to give you a no
01:02:07So Luke, it is
01:02:10It's down to you, sir
01:02:11I don't know what to do with this little creative creature
01:02:14Gosh, I don't know what to do with you
01:02:17I'm very confused
01:02:24I'm a yes
01:02:25Yes, yes, yes, yes, yes, yes, yes
01:02:28Thank you all so much
01:02:29Yes, yes, yes, yes
01:02:30You're going to do great things
01:02:31Be the wonderful misfit that you are that doesn't fit
01:02:34I'm loving it
01:02:35Come get this, please, for goodness sakes
01:02:37You're going to Hollywood Week
01:02:39Thank you so much
01:02:40I guess I'm going to Hollywood Week
01:02:42I wasn't expecting to pass
01:02:45But then they let me through
01:02:47And I'm extremely happy
01:02:49We're being attacked by A
01:02:51Oh my God
01:02:52Is this the whole herd here?
01:02:54This way, gang
01:02:59That was awesome
01:03:01To have my family come into the audition room with me
01:03:05I'm so blessed
01:03:06Damn, there's so much love in that family, boy
01:03:10That's so good
01:03:15Hey Trevor, I do want to let you know, bro
01:03:17It's very old women to be here, you know
01:03:19We used to watch these shows
01:03:20We were very proud of you, bro
01:03:21It means a lot for y'all to be here
01:03:23It really do
01:03:24I appreciate y'all
01:03:29Join us
01:03:29Good day, sir
01:03:32So tell us who you are, where you're from, your age
01:03:34I go by true to star
01:03:35I'm 24
01:03:36I'm from Montgomery, Alabama
01:03:38No way, down the street
01:03:40Yeah, down the street, Tuskegee, man
01:03:42All right
01:03:43Yeah, man
01:03:44Any musical background in the family or just you?
01:03:48My Uncle Lionel
01:03:49Uncle who?
01:03:50Lionel
01:03:52Sounds like a good individual
01:03:55My first memory of music
01:03:58Me and my mom actually used to watch American Idol
01:04:00That was my first memory of, like, loving music
01:04:03And, yeah
01:04:04He once tried to run away to Hollywood
01:04:07And he was just gonna run away with a guitar
01:04:08And sing on the street
01:04:11I thought it was crazy
01:04:13Yeah
01:04:14And he was determined
01:04:15And I'm glad you kept that energy, bro
01:04:18Despite what anybody said about you, bro
01:04:19I appreciate it
01:04:20For real
01:04:25Growing up was tough
01:04:28My mom was on drugs
01:04:29There was a lot of times we didn't have water on
01:04:32Lights on
01:04:33I had to take care of my little siblings
01:04:37My mama had a hard life
01:04:39And truthfully, my mom went through the same thing
01:04:41I had to go through
01:04:42You know, history repeats itself
01:04:48Eventually, our family stepped in
01:04:49And my mom got clean
01:04:51And she was actually really trying to change
01:04:54And make things better
01:05:00I lost my mom
01:05:02In 2022
01:05:03I had just started to understand
01:05:09I had just started to understand at that time
01:05:11That I had just started to forgive
01:05:13For a lot of things that we went through
01:05:16As kids
01:05:18It was hard
01:05:20It was very hard
01:05:32It was a very special moment
01:05:34Not only for me
01:05:35But for my family
01:05:40For me, it's more than auditioning
01:05:42It's just about my family
01:05:44Showing them that you can do anything
01:05:46That you can put your mind to
01:05:48If I go a million miles away
01:05:55I'll write a letter
01:06:00Each and every day
01:06:03Cause I need nothing
01:06:06Cause nothing can never change
01:06:10It's just love I have for you
01:06:17Oh, you're the apple of my
01:06:24Cherry pie
01:06:26And oh, you're cake and ice cream
01:06:32Oh, you're sugar and spice
01:06:37And everything nice
01:06:42You're the girl of my dreams
01:06:44You're the girl of my, my, my, my, my, my dreams
01:06:47But if you want it
01:06:50To leave me
01:06:53Yeah, wrong
01:06:54When you got back, baby
01:06:56I just said
01:06:59Well, come on
01:07:01Cause I need nothing
01:07:03Cause I need nothing
01:07:04Oh, nothing
01:07:05Can never change
01:07:08Cause I need nothing
01:07:10That I can change
01:07:15This old love I have
01:07:18For you
01:07:27So, so I'm channeled now
01:07:28All the folks in Montgomery, Tuskegee, Auburn, Union Springs
01:07:33They told me to give you a hug
01:07:34Oh, thank you so much
01:07:35Thank you, thank you, man
01:07:36Now, we're proud of you, son
01:07:38Thank you so much
01:07:39You did well
01:07:40I love that
01:07:40Thank you so much
01:07:41You have a commanding voice
01:07:44But I think my favorite part was your delivery
01:07:47It was completely intentional
01:07:49And it wasn't trying to barrel over the song
01:07:53And show us all your big notes
01:07:55Thank you
01:07:56You were just delivering a story to us
01:07:58And it was very believable
01:08:00Thank you so much
01:08:01It was the first time in three days
01:08:04I've had full body chills the whole time
01:08:07And I thought it was just so real and genuine
01:08:10And I just cheer for you
01:08:12I want to see your family have a blast with all this
01:08:15And, uh
01:08:16How are we going?
01:08:17Is the rest of your family outside this door?
01:08:19They should be
01:08:24We have been waiting on you
01:08:26Come on in, Montgomery
01:08:28This is my brother
01:08:29This is my sister
01:08:30That's my brother
01:08:31That's my little brother
01:08:32That's my auntie
01:08:33That's my uncle
01:08:34Montgomery's gonna be proud
01:08:35I think he came in here to take no prisoners
01:08:38And he just did that
01:08:41It's a yes for me
01:08:43I'm a big-time yes
01:08:44Carrie, what's the note?
01:08:46Little man
01:08:48You think we should all say yes and give him one of these?
01:08:51Say yes
01:08:51Say yes

01:10:06And he's a Bama boy, too, so.
01:10:08I'm here without you, baby.
01:10:11But you're still on my lonely mind.

01:10:17And I dream about you all the time.
01:10:21I love your voice.
01:10:23I love your confidence.
01:10:24That little growl you have is a signature to you.
01:10:29It is very different to be here in Nashville
01:10:32compared to what I'm used to.
01:10:33I've never been around anything like this.
01:10:36You want all my love
01:10:40and my devotion.
01:10:45You want my loving soul
01:10:49right on the line.
01:10:54I'll give you a chance.
01:10:55I'm a yes.
01:10:56You need to know what you're capable of.
01:10:59If you've got to push a little more,
01:11:01you've got to squeeze that tushy.
01:11:03I'm a yes.
01:11:04It's a yes for me.
01:11:05I'm going to Hollywood.
01:11:09And Miss Carrie,

01:11:12I'm going to remember
01:11:12to squeeze that tushy
01:11:14and let it out.
01:11:16Best advice of my life.
01:11:22My home state is showing up.
01:11:26Hey.

01:11:3916 years old.
01:11:40Yes, ma'am.
01:11:40Yes, sir.
01:11:41Oh, my gosh.
01:11:41I'm so nervous.
01:11:43Well, where do you sing?
01:11:45I sing at festivals a lot.
01:11:47So those are my favorite.
01:11:48I like getting to interact
01:11:49with the people after I finish.
01:11:51I like festivals, too.
01:11:52I'm a talker.
01:11:53Good.
01:11:54So what kind of music
01:11:55do you listen to
01:11:57and then what kind of music
01:11:58do you perform?
01:11:59If I had to pick one,
01:12:00I've been kind of pulled
01:12:01towards Christian rock
01:12:02a little more.
01:12:03Oh, cool.
01:12:04That's actually
01:12:04what I'm singing today.
01:12:06Cool.
01:12:06Well, what song
01:12:07will you be singing?
01:12:08I'm singing
01:12:09Don't Tread on Me.
01:12:10It's by We the Kingdom.
01:12:11All right.
01:12:11Well, let's go.
01:12:16Oh, no,
01:12:18you've done it now.
01:12:19Gone against the king,
01:12:21gone against the crowd.
01:12:23Oh, no,
01:12:24you've done it now.
01:12:26It's time to fill the fire.
01:12:30And rumors spreading around.
01:12:33How could you think
01:12:34he would stay down?
01:12:37Rumors spreading around.
01:12:40He's nothing but a liar.
01:12:43And get on out of here.
01:12:45Get on up and leave.
01:12:47Ain't no devil
01:12:48gonna tread on me.
01:12:50And choking on the blood
01:12:51that ran down the tree.
01:12:53Ain't no devil
01:12:55gonna tread on me.
01:12:58I said,
01:13:00no weapon
01:13:02formed against me
01:13:05shall prosper
01:13:07in Jesus' name.
01:13:35In Jesus' name.
01:13:37The devil gonna tread on me.
01:13:46Woo!
01:13:47It's all right.
01:13:50Okay.
01:13:51I will tackle you first.
01:13:52You'll tackle it first, yeah.
01:13:53I will.
01:13:54I feel like there's a lot of versatility in there.
01:13:57Well, thank you.
01:13:57Just in your tone and you sometimes kind of have this,
01:14:00this grittiness in your voice.
01:14:02Oh, I love Rasp.
01:14:03That's like my favorite in the world.
01:14:05I could hear you singing country.
01:14:07I feel like I could hear you singing like some Stevie Nicks.
01:14:10Yeah.
01:14:11I like your voice a lot.
01:14:13And I mean, who needs oxygen, right?
01:14:16I was gonna say that.
01:14:17I feel like you broke a Carrie Underwood note-holding record
01:14:21somewhere.
01:14:22I don't know, I don't know.
01:14:24We might have to test it out someday.
01:14:25Yeah, we'll have to time it one day.
01:14:27But listen, you're very, very spunky
01:14:30and you've got a great energy to you.
01:14:32But you know, just sing smart.
01:14:34Make sure you sing smart.
01:14:35I think that's song choice too.
01:14:37Yeah.
01:14:38Yeah, that song.
01:14:38Like, because you are so bubbly and fun and spunky,
01:14:42like, should you go forward?
01:14:45Oh my gosh.
01:14:46If you keep your song choices like young and fun and spunky,
01:14:51that'll do you well.
01:14:52Iowa University is looking for that kind of energy
01:14:56to be on the cheering squad, don't you think?
01:14:58I think so.
01:15:00Shall we vote?
01:15:01Yes.
01:15:02Oh my God.
01:15:02Spinal.
01:15:04Yes.
01:15:05Yes, ma'am.
01:15:06I love it.
01:15:07Come get this.
01:15:09Oh, that's so good.
01:15:10You're going to Hollywood week.
01:15:12Oh, she was a bunny.
01:15:13She was a bunny.
01:15:14I love it.
01:15:14Alabama, come on.
01:15:16Yeah.
01:15:17Good job, Alabama.
01:15:18Go.
01:15:18You're representing.
01:15:20This is, like, so unreal.
01:15:22I see this on TV, and now, like, I'm holding it on TV,
01:15:25which is kind of the craziest thing in the world.
01:15:28Woo!
01:15:29She's got it!
01:15:32She's fun.
01:15:33She's fun.
01:15:34I love her.
01:15:35She's got a little Gabby Barrett kind of quality
01:15:37in there, too.
01:15:39This day was absolute perfection,
01:15:41and I'm going to Hollywood week.
01:15:43Yay!
01:15:49That was a wild ride there for the last 45 minutes.
01:15:53Today was promising.
01:15:54I mean, we found some real talent.
01:15:58I'm already dreading, like, tearing things down.
01:16:02Yeah.
01:16:03Ooh.
01:16:05Come on in.
01:16:06Don't be shy.

01:16:14I'm 25 years old.
01:16:15I come from Puerto Rico.
01:16:17Puerto Rico.
01:16:18But a few months ago, I moved to California
01:16:21to pursue my music dream.
01:16:23So when you moved here, did you
01:16:25move to, like, Los Angeles or?
01:16:27I moved to Death Valley.
01:16:28I work in Death Valley National Park.
01:16:30Death Valley.
01:16:31Yes.
01:16:32The hottest place on Earth.
01:16:33I stretched myself across four states, new lands, west coast, where my dreams lay.
01:16:48I've loved music since I was a little girl.
01:16:50Back home in Puerto Rico, I really tried every route, every way to be involved in music.
01:16:57But I feel like I never quite fit in that industry.
01:17:01Cause I was never taught.
01:17:02I just didn't want to give up my dream.
01:17:05The things I want them all.
01:17:06I started searching on Google, Jobs with Housing USA, and this popped up.
01:17:12Oh my God.
01:17:13You should go.
01:17:14It was so different.
01:17:15As of right now, I work as a retail associate in the bike shop at Death Valley.
01:17:20My job consists of doing reservations, being the cashier, telling people about all the sites
01:17:28they can go out and explore in the national park.
01:17:31The plan was to save up money and then head to L.A. and keep pursuing music.
01:17:37I really didn't know what I was getting myself into.
01:17:40This is like crazy.
01:17:41I live over there by that mountain.
01:17:44The hardest thing has been leaving my whole world behind.
01:17:48When was the last time you saw your family?
01:17:49I saw them the day before arriving to Death Valley.
01:17:53It's been six months since I saw my mom my whole life.
01:17:56She told me, go follow your dream and I'll be here to help you always.
01:18:01I know I can hear her through the phone from Puerto Rico, but it's not the same to have that
01:18:06hug in person.
01:18:08Come give me up.
01:18:09I feel like she reminds me to be that little girl that had such big dreams.
01:18:15Come give me up.
01:18:18Come give me up.
01:18:18Well, we actually have a note here from your mom.
01:18:21Oh, my God.
01:18:24It says, God bless you.
01:18:26I want you to know I'll always be here to support you.
01:18:30Remember what I've always told you since you were little.
01:18:32Dreams do come true.
01:18:35Don't let anything or anyone stop you.
01:18:38I'm here with you in spirit.
01:18:40I love you with all my heart.
01:18:42Love, Mama.
01:18:43Oh, so beautiful.
01:18:45Thank you for that.
01:18:46Now that I made you cry or your mom made you cry, what are you going to sing for us?
01:18:51Maybe by Sienna Spiral.
01:18:53Oh, awesome.
01:18:54Okay.
01:18:55No, I can't wait to surprise her.
01:18:57Surprise her.
01:18:58How are you going to feel when you see her?
01:19:01I'm very happy and I don't know if I'm going to run or because I'm so excited.
01:19:10I, it's, I, it's happy.
01:19:15Emotionada.
01:19:27All I wanted was to be a hostage for you to tie me up and never let me leave.
01:19:40If we're honest, it took the longest time for you to even notice I was here.
01:19:53But now I'm feeling jaded.
01:19:56I thought I was your favorite.
01:19:59I believed in you for so long.
01:20:03Well, maybe this time you hurt like I did.
01:20:09You won't get no sympathy cause I got none from you.
01:20:15Better make up your mind.
01:20:19Mine's not confused.
01:20:20Nothing left in me that wants to leave a space for you.
01:20:27Maybe this time, maybe this time, maybe this time, you'll feel like I did.
01:20:38You don't feel so good when it's your turn and blue.
01:20:51Ooh.
01:20:52Ooh.
01:20:52Ooh.
01:20:56Ooh.
01:20:58Don't fantasize when you picture me.
01:21:01When you close your eyes and I'm in your dreams
01:21:04Don't matter to her, don't matter to me
01:21:07Think I care, I don't
01:21:09Maybe this time you hurt like I do
01:21:15You won't get no sympathy cause I got none from you
01:21:20It all feels so good
01:21:31When it's your turnin' blue
01:21:36Ooh
01:21:41Wow
01:21:42Wow, okay
01:21:43Thank you
01:21:44Very cool, very good
01:21:47Thank you so much
01:21:48That was really good
01:21:50I'm kind of at a loss for words cause I didn't really know what to expect
01:21:56Your tone, I mean your range
01:22:00You can feel just so much emotion
01:22:04It's incredible, it really is
01:22:07Yeah
01:22:07You open your mouth and it's just songbird
01:22:12I really love the way you navigated a very difficult song
01:22:17And made it yours
01:22:19We've heard that song quite a few times now
01:22:23And that was the first time I've heard someone give me the right experience with the song
01:22:28You just really made that song come alive to me
01:22:32And I'm really looking forward to seeing you explore even more
01:22:37Thank you
01:22:37Thank you so much
01:22:39Yeah, I think we can vote
01:22:41But before we do
01:22:43Um
01:22:44In your mom's note
01:22:46She said that she is with you in spirit
01:22:50But she is also
01:22:53With you right now
01:22:56For real
01:23:00Oh my God
01:23:22Nothing's better than mama's hug, right?
01:23:25Oh my God
01:23:27I don't need her vote
01:23:28Let's tell her the good news
01:23:29You're going to Hollywood Week
01:23:34Hey, hey, hey, hey, hey
01:23:36I was calling her and I was like, she's not answering my calls
01:23:39Like, she's not gonna know if I made it or not
01:23:42As she was here
01:23:43I'm so excited
01:23:44Happy
01:23:45I never would have thought I would be holding one of these in my hands
01:23:50That was great
01:23:51That was great
01:23:52Well, awesome day, y'all
01:23:53We're getting there
01:23:54Class of 2026
01:23:58I see a house
01:24:01Up on the hill
01:24:05This golden ticket is like
01:24:07That little bookmark
01:24:09That lets me know it's
01:24:13A new chapter
01:24:14Mama
01:24:16Gracias
01:24:18Thank you for being here
01:24:20I will always remember this

01:24:34You're going to Hollywood Week
01:24:35Wow
01:24:36With the guitar
01:24:37Sir, is your name with Brian?
01:24:39Am I in trouble?
01:24:40Yeah
01:24:40Easy
01:24:42It's a gift to hurt so much, you know
