00:00Changing a bridge is not just a road closure.
00:03In Saltley, it also affects rail lines, a canal, the River Ray and everyday journeys through East Birmingham.
00:10HS2 says Saltley Viaduct must be demolished and rebuilt for the new railway route.
00:16The bridge, which carries traffic across the B4114, is due to closed vehicles and pedestrians from the 10th of May.
00:25The closure could last up to 18 months.
00:29HS2 says approved diversion routes will be signposted.
00:33The replacement structure will be higher and wider than the current viaduct.
00:38It's designed to leave room for high-speed trains to pass underneath,
00:42whilst also creating more space for people walking and cycling once the bridge is once again opened safely.
00:49The work is being led by Balfour Beatty Vinci for HS2.
00:54The company says the site is tight and technically difficult because engineers will work above the Birmingham to Derby railway
01:01line and also the Birmingham and Warwick Junction Canal and nearby watercourses too.
01:08HS2 says some buses will be rerouted with temporary stops and extra services introduced.
01:15Rail services between Birmingham and Derby will also change across two weekends in June.
01:20The canal will close to boats and pedestrians from mid-July onwards too.
01:25They say signed routes will remain in place during the closure.
