00:00Now it's a sit down with Nate Burgess. Hey there, Nate. Happy spring, my friend. As a
00:05designer, what does this season signify for you? My strongest association with spring
00:10is cleaning, editing and organizing. And it's unbelievable to me in a family of four
00:17how much we accumulate over one winter period. What we have in our house right now,
00:22I cannot wait to go through every room, every drawer, every cabinet and just
00:28donate all of it, get rid of all of it, give it to friends. It's unbelievable and it makes me
00:34insane.
00:35Your kids are growing up so fast. Poppy is 11, Oscar is 8. How are you and Jeremiah making sure
00:41that you soak up as much time with them as you can? We are very ritualistic as a family. We
00:47set
00:47the table for every meal, even if it's a sandwich that we had delivered to the house. It's on a
00:52placemat on a proper plate with a proper napkin. The children set the table in the morning for
00:58their own breakfast. The idea that your eight-year-old kid is reaching for a linen napkin
01:03while he's having his breakfast burrito, that he set that table before he sat down and he's getting
01:09his backpack and brushing his teeth, but that's his job. And I think that just slows life down
01:16enough. These small ceremonies, these small rituals, like to kind of stop the clock for just that moment
01:22and enjoy what's actually happening. We recognize that a lot of things had to come together to help
01:29create a family like ours. Laws, science, like will. We're so lucky. We have such a good time as a
01:37family.
01:38The four of us at a dinner is by far both of our favorite, and I would venture to say
01:44the children's
01:45favorite evenings. We just love spending time, the four of us, together. And I know they've got
01:51to be stoked about your partnership with Pepperidge Farm. Anything that relates to a cookie in our
01:56house is like absolutely thrilling. From Jeremiah making his, you know, baking cookies on the weekends,
02:01which is a huge thing in our house. So you ate all the cookies. And what did he do? Did
02:07he... I'm sorry.
02:08That's okay. But no, the partnership with Pepperidge Farm is really sweet. It's like this blend of
02:14like nostalgia marrying modern design. And as a kid growing up in Minnesota, I remember we were allowed
02:21to eat whatever cookie we wanted really, but those were the cookies that my mom kind of like saved.
02:26And so when I started working with Pepperidge Farm on this Chessman launch of like three new flavors,
02:33they were taking like this nostalgic cookie and turning it into something that had some creativity
02:38around it. And they came to me and said, um, we know you're a fan. How would you reinterpret
02:45entertaining with these? And so that's how the partnership was born. It's such a fun way that's
02:51happened to your childhood imagination and combine it with your years of experience. Have the kids
02:55inherited your and Jeremiah's creative eye? They've always been incredibly creative, very visual,
03:02both of them in different ways. Our daughter is a full on teenager and she's such a sophisticated
03:09thinker. I mean, she was a sophisticated thinker at three. So it's truly scary now at 11. She did this
03:15talk about what it means to be a girl at school, um, this past week. And it was like, Jeremiah
03:21and I just
03:22like stared at each other and burst into tears. I don't cry at everything, believe it or not. I'm never
03:27gonna survive this. Um, it was like, wow, like you should be smart, but not too smart. You should
03:32be the enemy. We were like, Oh my God. Okay. All of that's in there. Like you're, you are a
03:38young
03:38lady. Poppy's definitely interested in beauty, definitely interested in fashion, definitely
03:43interested in design. Oscar could care less about clothes, but he spends hours building stuff. So,
03:49you know, he, he definitely has that side to him as well. Every phase has been so much fun and,
03:56you know, no one makes me laugh out loud like Jeremiah and my kids.
