00:04tonight on the curse of oak island what's that it's similar to what we have on oak island this
00:11is from 2000 bc we're starting to find a hidden wall this would be an ideal place to deposit
00:18treasure that sounds great wow oh my gosh this is huge amazing this is very very very significant if
00:27that was part of the treasure the rest of that is still the money absolutely
00:34there is an island in the north atlantic where people have been looking for an incredible treasure
00:41for more than 200 years so far they have found a stone slab with strange symbols carved into it
00:50man-made workings that date to medieval times and a lead cross whose origin may be connected to the
00:59knights templar to date six men have died trying to solve the mystery and according to legend one more
01:09we'll have to die before the treasure can be found
01:26we're getting there trying to level it out right now as a new fall day begins on oak island they
01:33do the
01:34grind it and we do to find it the team is currently repairing a section of unstable ground in order
01:41to begin the final massive dig of the year where unnaturally high traces of silver have been detected
01:47some 200 feet underground as the work proceeds over 2 000 miles to the southeast on the island of tercera
01:59in the portuguese azores welcome to nosa senora the concert home our lady of the conception rick and
02:09members of the team along with local historian francisco nogaira arrive at a 15th century church connected
02:17to a sect of the knights templar known as the order of christ founded around 1474 by alvaro de homen
02:26this church is the crossroads of a number of great stories that might tell us what came from the holy
02:31land through the azores towards oak island yeah and i think it's wonderful so let's go perfect
02:39after discovering a number of believed portuguese medieval artifacts on oak island such as a hand cannon
02:46and stone shots along with structures such as a rock wall on lot 26 and a stone road in the
02:55swamp
02:56rick and members of the team have come to research the theory that the templars and their descendant
03:02organizations may have stored sacred treasures in the azores before taking them to oak island between
03:09the 13th and 17th centuries it is also their hope to find clues related to the 14th century silver
03:17portuguese coin that was reportedly extracted during a drilling operation in the original money pit
03:23by james spit plato back in 1849
03:29at first glance this looks like an ordinary church a beautiful but ordinary church oh
03:38a few years ago we were underground in camerano italy looking at the altar which had this image here
03:49the goose paw i think you'll agree that it's at least very similar yeah
03:56the goose paw is a symbol that was created by the knights templar which they carved at locations of sacred
04:03importance throughout the middle east and europe between the 12th and 14th centuries
04:09the team saw a similar carving just one week ago at a nearby church known as the igreja
04:16the south sebastian and in recent years they've also seen goose paws carved at former templar sites in italy
04:26as well as in liverpool nova scotia less than 50 miles from oak island
04:32any treasure that was on this island would have been in the realm of this church
04:36could corian be correct that this goose paw carving is a clue that templar related treasures
04:44were once safeguarded in the azores if so might that also suggest that the goose
04:51paw found near oak island is evidence that those treasures were taken to that area at a later time
04:59the goose paw it was an interesting connection that he made what better place an isolated island in
05:06the middle of the open ocean to safeguard a treasure and then perhaps an attempt to move it even further
05:12west one thing i'm noticing just looking at this is we have the goose pup but then we also have
05:18an
05:19elongated cross using the the stem of the h it's elongated just like no one's cross yes the symbology is
05:27endless i do believe there is some religious component to what was done on oak island there's so much
05:35encoded information associated with templars and the knights of christ related to significant religious
05:43artifacts that we have found in europe and oak island this is incredibly intriguing and interesting as
05:50the whole story of oak island is it's very very cool it's all fascinating we should move to the next
05:57location that'd be great let's go as rick and the team continue their investigation in the azores
06:04back on oak island hey katya hey marty i hated to see you not have a digger so i am
06:12here marty lagina
06:14joins katya drayton several yards south of the money pit area on lot 18. i just wanted to go over
06:21these spoils oh the spoils from dunfield yeah i'm ready to dig if you find something let's find it okay
06:29in 1965 treasure hunter robert dunfield used a 70 ton crane to dig a 100 foot diameter crater in the
06:39money pit area unfortunately upon reaching a depth of 143 feet the ground around the hole collapsed as
06:48seawater rushed in and flooded it mr dunfield hastily filled the hole but left massive piles of spoils
06:56off to the side which were never searched for possible clues or valuables now because the team
07:04is about to sink a much deeper shaft in the area encompassed by dunfield's dig marty is curious
07:11to try the team's luck by metal detecting those old mounds of spoils oh that's different sounds really good
07:24right in there and it's small that's why it kind of sounded choppy okay that makes sense
07:32okay
07:38try that let's see you got it it's out
07:46that sounds great
07:55oh we got it it's in your hand oh my gosh yeah oh you know what katja i've seen this
08:04before
08:04oh really yeah hang on pretty sure i've seen this before it's shaped like the fleur de leaves almost
08:12yeah you are dead on because you know what this looks exactly like i am positive your dad found
08:18something exactly like this and he was sure it was a french cat badge why is there a french cat
08:25badge in
08:26the money pit well here's the thing the short answer is we're not sure but here's the cool thing
08:33it was found on the complete opposite side of the island oh my gosh which implies a greater presence
08:41than we thought right i mean why over here and over there what is that that's got some designs on
08:48yeah
08:48that is in 2018 while metal detecting on lot 21 located on the western side of the island this
08:57reminds me of like a cat badge a military cat badge gary jack and peter found an identical artifact
09:04fragment is it possible that marty and katya have discovered a directly related clue that was removed
09:12from the money pit more than 60 years ago there are several leading theories that involve the french
09:19in a very significant way the knights of malta isaac de rasly which had a settlement just down the coast
09:27here in the 1600s was apparently here associated with the french or under french orders in 1632 a french
09:36military officer named isaac de rasly established a fort in lahave nova scotia just 15 miles south of oak
09:45island curiously de rasly was also a prominent member of the templar and order of christ related group
09:53known as the knights of malta and is believed by some researchers to have possibly visited oak island
10:01that is a great find boy the uh the drayton's like we don't know exactly where these dunfield spoils
10:11came from but nobody's gone through them i would never have guessed this would show up over here and
10:16so i think this is evidence of human activity deep underground in the money pit area and potentially
10:22some of the depositors this is a great indicator that something's still down there look honestly it is
10:30so significant thank you of course i'll find you another great find i got a lot of passes till
10:38late but i probably got a couple nights worth still while work continues in the money pit area
10:48he's dying to dig isn't he marty joins members of the team on lot five to dig for new clues
10:55several
10:56yards from the rounded stone foundation okay talk to me what what are we looking at right now well as
11:06we started on covering this lovely ring of rocks and got a little further down there's something
11:12starting to present itself and it looks like a nicely stacked area of rocks which potentially could be
11:18another feature four weeks ago the team began investigating what they believed was a 20th century stone well
11:31however after finding an iron hook inside of it that may date back three centuries or more
11:38fiona and laird began to carefully excavate the feature and have found evidence that it may not only be
11:45older than they thought but is perhaps not a well at all okay so what do we want to do
11:52what's the next step
11:53why don't we take off that top layer where the rocks are on the outside scoop up that and it
11:58gives us a
11:59start on a test pit that we can do okay
12:04i love this excavator archaeology you can do some real metal detecting with this baby can you
12:14now fiona and laird want marty to dig a trench beside the feature so that they can carefully
12:20expose more of it and hopefully determine just what it actually is it's still too early to say what it
12:28is
12:28but it sure as heck wasn't a 20th century well the owner more or closer i think you could do
12:35another
12:36one in here i'd go for more it's necessary to find out what this is because it's lot five it's
12:42close to
12:44activity it could be maybe associated with a round feature and is one of the things that probably
12:49happened a long time ago we need to do more investigation of it it hasn't really told its secret yet
12:57i think that's good marty that gives us a really nice trench zone i think that gives us a really
13:02good head start good yeah i think so all right and just call when you need you know big yeah
13:08scoops
13:09taken your team is chomping at the bit over there see we turn them loose let's get after it thank
13:16you
13:16all right i'm gonna get this thing out of here all right as the archaeologists continue their investigation
13:22on lot five back on the island of tercera in the azores hey guys francesco felix thank you for
13:35welcoming us nice to meet you appreciate it rick and other members of the team morning meet with
13:41historian dr felix rodriguez at grota tomato a site of mysterious megalithic stone features which are
13:50believed to have been built by someone before the portuguese settled the azores in 1439 for over 15
13:57years professor rodriguez studied the place we're going today to date some of the features that are
14:02here we know that the portuguese arrived here officially in the early 1400s you we will see
14:11traces that someone in the middle ages was here
14:14and might have used the azores as a stepping stone to sail towards north america right which is
14:22basically the halfway point between the european mainland yeah and north america yeah you're always
14:29looking to incrementally build the database brick by brick by brick or stone by stone by stone
14:36uh with uh felix's uh work we have to have an ability to get from east to west right that
14:45that possibility
14:46that there was a a group here prior to the conventionally accepted date is kind of the
14:53thing that i'd like to investigate while we're out here because that implies sort of a secret visit oh yeah
14:59yeah if this can support that data and i believe that is the intent of our trip here yeah gentlemen
15:07i've got some business take care of back in tandem so i'm going to excuse myself nice to meet you
15:11professor all right see you see you let's go let's go okay yeah i believe that the point of beginning
15:19on oak island was in the 1200s let's go find some data points because of the paved area in the
15:25swamp
15:25we'll get our exercise today oh yeah it significantly predates the discovery of the azores it's up there
15:33no there is a belief that the templars in the order of christ knew of this place is there an
15:41early
15:41habitation here in the azores this is what we seek to find out hey guys hold up look yeah look
15:49here
15:52this is exactly the way the lot eight boulders right a space and this and the space oh it is
15:58a rock
15:59formation similar to the boulder feature on lot eight which set above a series of evenly spaced stones
16:09come on down take a look at this could rick have found a stone structure built with the same kind
16:15of
16:15design look i just walking by i just noticed this it kind of similar to a rock that we have
16:23on the
16:23island and this wood is full of these marks very interesting does anybody have a photo of the lot
16:31eight feature i think i do here i'll show you so this is it's it's zoomed in but it's a
16:39giant boulder
16:40there's an verschrikation there's a support rock and then a space and it looked very deliberate
16:46not seems to be the same idea yeah
16:55it's a giant boulder so this is it's it's zoomed in there's a support rock and then a space and
17:02then
17:02a support rock and then a space and it looked very deliberate and not seems to be the same idea
17:07yeah
17:07We don't know why.
17:09At the megalithic complex known as Grota do Medo in the Azores,
17:14the Oak Island team is examining a stone feature
17:17that is similar in design to placed rocks in the boulder formation on Lot 8.
17:23Felix, what is that?
17:25This is cut marks.
17:27The cut marks are always aligned with a specific sunset or sunrise.
17:34It's astronomical, yeah.
17:35It's an astronomical orientation.
17:38Has an archaeoastronomer looked at this
17:40and been able to date it through the use of alignments?
17:44Yes, it's possible.
17:46What are the dates here? Do you know?
17:482000 BC.
17:51Really?
17:52Really.
17:53Okay, wow. Very exciting.
17:54And this is a specific orientation from Iron Age, Bronze Age orientations
18:02that appears in mainland, in several places with the same age.
18:08That is compelling.
18:09What I noticed is the same thing I noticed in Lot 8.
18:13The spacing of the stones that surround the Lot 8 feature
18:17and the spacing of these cuts in this stone were so similar.
18:23We're trying to find real connections between the Azores and Oak Island.
18:30This structure represents that possible connection.
18:34It's very curious to see that here.
18:36It's quite interesting.
18:38But obviously this feature is very old.
18:41So was the work here on Oak Island done by descendants of the original people
18:46who occupied the Azores or something different?
18:49This is not the most important in this place.
18:52Really?
18:53Really.
18:53Then I would ask you to proceed because I'm very interested.
18:57Let's go up.
18:58More to see.
19:01Turns out that's just the beginning.
19:03Let's go to the basin.
19:05Yeah, let's go to the basin.
19:06We're only partway to the site that he deems to be important.
19:11Of course, we're all excited to go see it.
19:15Gorgeous.
19:17It's stunningly beautiful.
19:19These megalithic structures represent for us this belief that once this landmass was found,
19:27it was used over centuries as a stepping stone between the old world and the new world.
19:33Great spot.
19:34But I'm looking for a timeline, a date, constructions and clues that connects directly to Oak Island.
19:42Something that will perhaps change history as we have come to know it.
19:48Okay, this is the basin.
19:50Oh, look at that.
19:53This is a symbol of a settlement here.
19:57The people were living in the island and made some strange basins.
20:03Oh, is that hand-carved or...?
20:06Yes.
20:07So this is not a functional watering hole.
20:11It's probably ceremonial.
20:13Probably ceremonial.
20:14And inside, some material, organic material, is accumulated in the bottom of the basin.
20:24And because of that, it was possible to date it by carbon dating.
20:30And it was...?
20:31At least a thousand years ago.
20:34Oh, wow.
20:34Really?
20:35Yes.
20:35Pretty cool.
20:36So we're talking about the 1100s.
20:40This is the minimum age for that.
20:43What an amazing sight.
20:44Yeah.
20:45Mm-hmm.
20:46It does sort of put this in the Oak Island dating's wheelhouse, doesn't it?
20:50Yeah.
20:51Comparison here is to the Lot 26 Well, right?
20:53Yeah.
20:53Small diameter.
20:55Yeah.
20:55More than a few people on the island have mentioned that Lot 26 Well could be ceremonial.
21:00Oh, yeah.
21:01In 2022, the team began investigating a mysterious stone well, just yards from the believed Portuguese
21:09wall on Lot 26.
21:12So this is the location.
21:14When Dr. Ian Spooner analyzed organic materials taken from the very bottom of the feature in
21:20order to date it, the team was stunned by the results.
21:24The date I got on the twig at the bottom was 1028 to 1172.
21:31Well, I mean, if this was used in 1100, it could have been a stopping ground before going
21:38to Oak Island.
21:39Yeah.
21:40I agree with you.
21:41They know travel in the Atlantic.
21:44If they want to go, they know how to do it.
21:47100%.
21:48And that is really so critically important.
21:53The 1100s is 300 years before the current understanding of when the Azores were discovered.
22:00Everything we have learned to date would indicate that these islands were known during the zenith
22:06of the power and influence of the Templars.
22:08It fits perfectly into what we believe could be a scenario under which a treasure would have
22:14been brought here to be safeguarded and then perhaps an attempt to move it even further west.
22:21So perhaps there is some association here with Oak Island.
22:27So it's checking off lots of the boxes as it pertains to Oak Island.
22:32We're getting closer.
22:33Great.
22:34So to both of you, we thank you for your efforts.
22:38I have a lot of things to see related to Oak Island.
22:41So let's go.
22:42Incredible.
22:43Amazing.
22:44Pretty cool.
22:48The following morning, back on Oak Island.
22:52Hi.
22:54Hello.
22:55This looks quite a bit different.
22:57Marty returns to Lot 5 for an update on the investigation of the mysterious stone structure.
23:05Well, if you've got to check out this progress, come and see.
23:09You've got a good angle over here.
23:10Oh, my.
23:12The rocks are really well stacked down below.
23:15They just look a little bit more jumbled on the top.
23:17Yeah.
23:18What we're seeing with the structure of the rocks and the direction that they're going,
23:21I do feel that this is a wall.
23:23The foundation wall.
23:24Yeah, like a foundation wall.
23:26Yeah, that's what I think.
23:27And it's quite thick as well.
23:28That, to me, looks buried.
23:31It's not natural accumulation.
23:33Oh, on purpose.
23:34Yeah.
23:34Hidden.
23:34Exactly.
23:35It looks pretty substantial to me.
23:37Yeah.
23:38It hit me upside the head with a two-by-four, but this is looking identical to what went on
23:42over there.
23:43And the original round feature.
23:45I know.
23:45That's what we were saying.
23:47It does look almost exactly as the original round feature did.
23:51And then we have this rock-filled structure.
23:53I mean, this whole business on Lot 5 started with the ring of modern-placed rock surrounding
24:00a depression that turned out to be hiding something.
24:03And that turned into a very, very substantial archaeological feature.
24:07Well, this is a smaller version of the same thing.
24:10I mean, it's crying out for more exploration.
24:13Even the construct at first initial glance is very crude and very similar to what we have
24:19over there as well.
24:20Well, but over there, you suspected at least two occupations.
24:24Oh, definitely.
24:24Definitely.
24:25The later occupation was better built than the earlier, and this matches the earlier
24:29so far.
24:31I wouldn't be surprised if it was the same era.
24:34It's like déjà vu.
24:38You have a really good sign, Giorno.
24:41It does look almost exactly as the original round feature did when we first saw it.
24:46I wouldn't be surprised if it was the same era.
24:49On Lot 5, Fiona Steele has uncovered evidence suggesting that the stone feature,
24:56previously thought to be a 20th century well, is a much larger structure and may be related
25:02to the nearby rounded foundation.
25:05Because that's a strange thing, to put a structure this close to the ocean, especially back then.
25:11You know, but I did question the proximity as well.
25:14This would be an ideal place to put something if you were doing some sort of activity that
25:18involved bringing things in from boats.
25:21Maybe.
25:22Lot 5 is a prime location in the sense that you could be hidden there.
25:26It's on the back end of the island, closer to the shore, and it hadn't been settled.
25:30So you could easily hide a ship.
25:32It's not that far from the money pit as well.
25:35I think that would be very enticing for anybody who's going to want to deposit treasure.
25:40Old Man Winner is breathing down our neck right now.
25:44We are running out of time.
25:46Yeah.
25:47You know, we want to know as much as we can.
25:49I agree.
25:51The fact that there could be another third feature on Lot 5, I think, is absolutely amazing.
25:55So, no, we're hungry to get at this.
25:57Okay.
25:57I know you're already working like, you know, dynamos, but go to double dynamos, okay?
26:02We're so excited about this.
26:04That was a pep talk.
26:05We're going to be aggressive.
26:06We're going to really go for it.
26:07All right.
26:08Curiouser and curiouser.
26:10A lot of unknowns here.
26:11So we're going to let you get back to work before the weather closes in.
26:16All right, let's go for it.
26:18As work continues on Oak Island, back on the island of Terceira in the Azores.
26:26Usually a discussion like this would happen in the war room on Oak Island.
26:29Alberto Silva from Porto is a numismatist, a world-class coin collector.
26:37Rick and members of the team meet with renowned Portuguese coin expert Alberto Silva
26:43at the Luis de Silva Ribeiru Public Library and Regional Archive.
26:48Alberto has kindly offered his services here to look at the so-called Pipledo coin.
26:53After previous analysis by coin expert Sandy Campbell suggested that the 14th century silver coin
27:01was extremely rare, worth thousands of dollars in today's value, and connected to the order of Christ,
27:08the team is eager to hear Alberto's perspective.
27:12Alberto, what we have here to show you today is a coin that was passed down generation to generation,
27:19believing it came from the money pit on Oak Island, and this is that coin.
27:28Whoa.
27:30This coin is in very, very good condition.
27:34This was minted in Lisbon.
27:37We can see L above the shield.
27:40It is minted between 1369 and 1371.
27:47That right there helps us, because so far we believe that it was minted somewhere between 1367 and 1383.
27:55Okay.
27:56So if it was minted no later than 1371, that shortens the window.
28:01Yeah, a lot.
28:02The diamond which it was created.
28:03Yes.
28:05We know several different dyes from Ferdinand.
28:10Dating back more than 2,000 years, a die is a metal tool used to stamp a specific design into
28:17a coin during the minting process.
28:20When damaged, coin dyes were often replaced with new, slightly different stamps in order to trace the manufacturing of a
28:29coin to a specific date and time.
28:31Are there many surviving examples of those coins?
28:38We have recorded no more than 100.
28:42Wow.
28:42So, we think that a large quantity of these coins were minted, because this coin was minted by the Portuguese
28:53Ferdinand I in a period of war.
28:57In the wartime, Ferdinando, he needed to mint more coins.
29:03King Ferdinand I, who is reported to be a great supporter of the Order of Christ, ruled Portugal from 1367
29:12until his death in 1383.
29:16In 1372, attempting to expand his power, he declared war on the Kingdom of Castillo, which is now part of
29:25modern-day Spain.
29:26The effort was unsuccessful, and led to a series of conflicts known as the Ferdinand Wars, which nearly bankrupted the
29:35royal treasury, caused instability across Portugal, and threatened the strongholds held by the Order of Christ.
29:43We assume that thousands of these coins were minted.
29:48You're telling us that there was a large number of these coins produced, and yet there's only about 100 known
29:55in the world.
29:55Yeah.
29:56Because there's so few of those, maybe there's a reason that they weren't circulated.
30:00Right.
30:00Because the bulk of them were somewhere else.
30:04Yes, it's possible.
30:05Okay.
30:06Here's the question that we have asked ourselves in search of answers to the Oak Island Ministry, and that question
30:13is, where are the coins?
30:15Yep.
30:16If the treasure had been found, there would be more than 100 in circulation. That's almost a guarantee.
30:21Yeah, that would no longer be a rare coin.
30:23Exactly.
30:25That means, if that was part of the treasure, it is still in the ground, right?
30:30Mm-hmm.
30:32The story that has been laid out here today, to me, is more impactful, because the whole point of the
30:39trip here is to try to understand, might the treasure be associated with the Order of Christ, and found its
30:45way to the Azores, and thus to Oak Island?
30:48So, either way, this is all good news.
30:52If coins of this type are that valuable, then why aren't they out in the real world?
30:58Why are there less than 100?
31:01Why are there less than 100?
31:02And why we still have a very significant source of silver expressed by the water sample testing in the money
31:08pit?
31:08To me, it says definitively that the treasure still remains in the depths and the confines of the money pit.
31:16It makes the trip back all that much more exciting, because we have another chance, with the last caisson, to
31:23perhaps find the very thing we presented to Alberto, a coin that might be that significant.
31:31The story corroborates the water testing, and the water testing corroborates the story.
31:35Correct.
31:36We still have a chance to find the very thing we're discussing, because the caisson work continues.
31:42Mm-hmm.
31:42And having said that, we do need to get back.
31:45Let's go find one of those for ourselves.
31:47Yeah.
31:47One.
31:49The experience we had in the Azores was amazing.
31:53It certainly has made an impact.
31:55And for that, we say, obrigado.
31:57Thank you, Alberto.
31:58Thank you very much.
31:59Thank you very much.
32:00Appreciate it.
32:01It is back to the island for us.
32:10Our wandering voyagers have returned.
32:13We want to download on your trip what you found, what was exciting, everything.
32:17Tell us everything.
32:18We went there looking for evidence that treasure passed through the Azores.
32:22Mm-hmm.
32:23And it was a logical place to keep something safe before sailing to North America.
32:28Right.
32:29There's a lot of connections there.
32:31It's a logical place that you would take something valuable.
32:33I 100% believe that.
32:37As part of our agenda, we wanted to get a look at structures constructed on Tersera, because
32:41there were suggestions that the technique they used on the island was also used here on Oak
32:45Island.
32:46It wasn't hard to find stone walls.
32:48It wasn't hard to find stone walls.
32:48And so these are some walls.
32:50That's the name of the location, with Serreta.
32:54There was rubble in the wall.
32:56That absolutely mimicked Lot 26 walls.
33:00Really?
33:01The important thing is, though, it could go all the way back to the 1400s, perhaps earlier.
33:06But the next site here is one that could potentially support those early days in structures we have
33:12here on the island.
33:14Mm-hmm.
33:14The man-made basin dated to the late 12th century, late 1100s.
33:23It looked very similar to the Lot 26 well.
33:28Oh, no way.
33:30Again, it's just a similarity.
33:31There's no proof.
33:32But it's very curious.
33:36So, people sailed to the Azores in at least the 1300s.
33:40At that time, they would have been capable of sailing to North America as well.
33:45It's possible that these people could have made it to Oak Island.
33:48We brought a lot of artifacts.
33:50Okay.
33:51This artifact was maybe the biggest surprise.
33:53Which one?
33:54This one.
33:55The nail.
33:56The nail.
33:56Of all the things we brought, this was the one piece that I didn't think he equivocated about.
34:01It's a nautical-type nail that we found on Lot 5.
34:06That's the exact style of a Portuguese nail that would be used in a Caravelle ship.
34:10Yes.
34:11They became prominent in Portuguese seafaring in the 1300s.
34:17Mm-hmm.
34:17Exactly.
34:17I like that.
34:19I like that a lot.
34:20I want to raise a point here because we talked to a coin expert from Portugal by the name of
34:27Alberto Silva, and we showed them the Portuguese coin.
34:31Alberto looked at that coin, and he said, there are less than a hundred of these in the world.
34:38He also said, there's way more out there.
34:41There's a good indication that a lot of those were minted.
34:45And yet there's only a hundred in collector's hands today.
34:48Oh, so the others are hidden away somewhere.
34:51Yeah.
34:51So to me, it speaks emphatically and almost definitively that the treasure still remains to be found in the money
34:58pit.
34:59I distinctly remember Sandy Campbell saying it's worth about $20,000.
35:05That's one coin.
35:06If this really is a Portuguese treasure, and it was something big enough to be worth the construction of the
35:14money pit, would there be ten of them?
35:17No.
35:17A hundred?
35:18No.
35:18Thousand?
35:19One, perhaps a hundred thousand coins.
35:21So, you know, I mean, the hope is we're digging for something worth billions.
35:27So the order of Christ could have done the trip to Oak Island through the Azores.
35:33Well, look, I'm just going to say this that I find myself very rarely on the more believer side than
35:39my brother.
35:39But I mean it all makes sense to me.
35:41Sounds like a great expedition.
35:43Yep.
35:44All right, we're eager to tell you what happened here on the island.
35:46We did a lot of digging.
35:48I had heard a lot about this so-called sand road in the swamp.
35:51This is not a modern road.
35:55I got a picture here which made me a believer
35:56because not only did Billy do a fabulous job of excavating it,
36:01we also had an ox shoe nail from under the sand, right, Billy,
36:06but on top of the rocks.
36:08Right.
36:09And lo and behold, we absolutely found that the sand
36:14and the structure underneath it was continuing up towards Centre Road.
36:18So that leads us to say maybe the path from Lot 5 to Centre Road
36:22was the path up to the Money Pit.
36:24And if you project this road on farther across the swamp,
36:27it hits what we have now recently started calling the Portuguese Road.
36:31Basically, Steve, right, it hits right at the base of it.
36:33It does.
36:34Yep.
36:34So it's ridiculous, really.
36:36It's crazy.
36:37The other major thing, you know,
36:40you talk about walking by something for 15 years,
36:42the so-called modern well on Lot 5,
36:47but Laird does not think it's a well.
36:49Fiona thinks that it is a new discovery,
36:52but there's an extensive archaeological search going on there right now.
36:57Those are the big digs we did while you were gone.
37:01It's a good week.
37:01Yeah, I think so.
37:03And they were getting ready to put in the last caisson up in the Money Pit,
37:07and it's about ready to go.
37:08It's good news.
37:09Yeah.
37:10Anyway, that's it.
37:10That's my report.
37:11So, to me, there's always been concern in this room
37:16that the treasure had been found.
37:20But you think about it.
37:22If this really is a treasure coin from the depths of the Money Pit,
37:25then where are they?
37:29The Money Pit.
37:30In the Money Pit.
37:33That shows it, right?
37:35Well, let's go find something very special.
37:39The sky's the limit.
37:41Let's go look.
37:42All right.
37:45Let's get to work.
37:48Right in the heart of the Money Pit.
37:52Hey, Rick.
37:53Hey.
37:54Hey.
37:55New hole, fresh start.
37:56Fresh start.
37:57In the Money Pit area, Rick arrives as representatives from SB Canada and Rock Equipment
38:03are about to break ground on the team's final shaft of the year, Money Pit 1.
38:10This last hole, Money Pit 1, might be one of the best chances to get deep in an area where
38:16we haven't explored a depth.
38:18So, Steve, can you put us on the map?
38:20Yes.
38:20We're dead center between these three caissons, and that's where we've had all the success.
38:25The bottom of the solution channel, where it's showing signs of silver, and we're not far from those areas.
38:32The MP1 shaft is located less than 10 feet from the Karma 1 and Top Pocket find shafts that were
38:40dug several weeks ago.
38:42During those excavations, where the highest traces of silver have been detected more than 200 feet deep in the solution
38:50channel,
38:51artifacts and pieces of wood that may have been related to the original Money Pit were brought to the surface.
38:59This is a very good location. We have to stand every good chance to be successful.
39:04Yep.
39:04We don't want metal finds. We want to find treasure.
39:09Oh, yeah.
39:10And answers to the mystery.
39:12Brilliant.
39:13If we're going to find the treasure, to me, this is our best chance.
39:16I hope you got your boots on, Rick, because we're going to be knee-deep in artifact.
39:21Everything we found this year, everything we found in all the previous years,
39:24indicates that this could be the spot where the treasure fell into the solution channel.
39:32This is our last case on this year, but also the best shot.
39:37Let's see you guys.
39:39Just looking like a good spot.
39:40It looks like.
39:41I love it.
39:42I don't want to be anywhere else but right here, going through Money Pit spoils.
39:46You're having fun.
39:48Oh, it's brilliant.
39:50We have silver in the water.
39:52That is consistent with the 14th century Portuguese coin that almost certainly came from the Money Pit.
40:00I think we are building a very excellent case.
40:04That old world treasure that is deemed to be at depth in the Money Pit is still there.
40:11And now, in MP1, we are on the cusp of proving it to the most, how shall we say, heart
40:17and skeptic.
40:19I really want to know what's way down deep.
40:22Here we go.
40:23Showtime.
40:26Already said many times the story of Oak Island started in the Money Pit and then will end it in
40:31the Money Pit.
40:31Why not name it Money Pit 1?
40:34Let's find this.
40:35Oh, a lot of looking atmosphere.
40:38Treasure on deck.
40:39Yep.
40:40Let's get stuck in.
40:40I'll go join them for a walk.
40:42Okay.
40:44Keep your fingers crossed.
40:46So far this year, the team has unearthed discoveries on Oak Island and made revelations across the ocean
40:55that suggest a valuable and potentially sacred treasure was buried long ago in the Money Pit.
41:04Now, they are digging where all of this compelling evidence is pointing.
41:12Others have searched here, only to be thwarted by forces that are perhaps beyond nature.
41:19But for the Laginas and their team, a different destiny may be waiting below.
41:29So, yeah.
41:32You know, I am the enemy.
41:34craft…?lle
41:35활동s as well? Amazing.
41:36And the
