00:00A humpback whale that has been stranded in shallow Baltic seawaters in Germany for nearly two months
00:07has finally began its journey towards the North Sea.
00:11The whale, affectionately known as Timmy, is being carried along by a tugboat.
00:16It is hoped that he will find his way home in the Atlantic Ocean after roughly three days.
00:22The German Environment Minister for the region said the humpback was doing well.
00:27He is now in the Danish waters. He is calm. He has also vocalized him today. That means he is
00:37good.
00:38Repeated attempts to rescue the whale ended in failure as his health deteriorated.
00:44Some activists called for him to be left to die in peace.
00:48Officials gave up at the start of April until authorities were persuaded by entrepreneurs who came up with a rescue
00:55plan and funds.
00:57Some scientists have, however, expressed skepticism over whether the whale will survive the journey.
01:03But the veterinarians of the private initiative evaluated that the animal was fit for transport.
01:09The location of the tugboat carrying Timmy can be tracked online on vesselfinder.com.
