Efforts to free a humpback whale stranded off Germany’s Baltic Sea coast continued on Thursday (March 26), three days after it was first spotted in shallow waters on Monday (March 23).

Rescuers are dredging a channel and deploying buoys to guide the dredger, creating a clear passage for the whale to return to deeper waters.

00:01Efforts to free a stranded humpback whale off Germany's Baltic Sea coast continued on Thursday afternoon.
00:09The whale, first spotted in shallow waters on Monday, remained trapped as of late Thursday.
00:15Stephanie Gross, a veterinarian at the Institutes for Terrestrial and Aquatic Wildlife Research,
00:20said the animal appeared motivated, occasionally lifting its head or responding to rescuers.
00:26We have just seen, the river was already back.
00:31It seems to be motivated here.
00:33At least it can be motivated.
00:35The problem at the moment is that the racer can't orient yourself on the open sea.
00:41There are now boats, which will then be better for the racer for the racer,
00:49so that it is easier for a racer for the racer.
00:54Rescuers plan to use buoys to guide the dredger as they cut a passage through the sand underwater.
01:00Operations were expected to pause after sunset on Thursday and resume on Friday.
