00:00:00We know how much homeowners love to make their houses picture-perfect.
00:00:04It can soon become a struggle, though, once you've tried to flatten out those pesky corners of a new rug.
00:00:10But there is one genius trick that can help.
00:00:12Just plop a few ice cubes and a heavy object on the corner, and voila!
00:00:17Flat rug, no more tripping over the rolled-up edges.
00:00:21Sitting in your car, frozen and grumpy, watching your window slowly defrost is about as fun as watching paint dry.
00:00:30And let's not forget the disaster that is wiping the mist off the inside.
00:00:33But hey, if you don't want to risk getting slapped with a fine, you better give this funky de-misting
00:00:39trick a try.
00:00:40People have tried it all, but apparently, it was the cat litter that won the condensation game.
00:00:45Just grab an old sock or pair of tights, fill them up with cat litter, tie it up, and plop
00:00:51it under your car's windows.
00:00:53It's so effective that it should do the trick in just 10 minutes.
00:00:56The cat litter works by absorbing the moisture in the air.
00:01:01Cleaning our stoves ain't fun either, let's be honest.
00:01:04But fear not, because one cleaning guru on TikTok has come to the rescue with a genius trick that'll make
00:01:10cleaning your stove a breeze.
00:01:12All you need is some oven spray, cling film, and a lot of patience.
00:01:17Start by spraying some cleaning product on the stove.
00:01:20Then, cover the whole thing in cling film.
00:01:23Here's where your patience will be needed.
00:01:26You'll have to wait a whole day for the cleaning product to work its magic.
00:01:29But trust me, once you remove that cling film, the stains will have melted off.
00:01:34That leftover mess on your stove can be scrubbed off easily now.
00:01:38Finish the job using a regular cloth for the rest of the grind.
00:01:43It's time you forget about fancy-schmancy car trash cans.
00:01:47Why waste your money on those when you can repurpose a plastic cereal container?
00:01:51It's small enough to fit in your car, and the flip-top opening means your trash won't go flying all
00:01:57over the place when you take sharp turns.
00:01:59Plus, just line it with a plastic grocery bag, and you're ready to go.
00:02:05Feel like your feet need a bit of pampering?
00:02:08You can skip the expensive spa day at your local salon.
00:02:11All you need is a sanitary pad, some toothpaste, and baking soda.
00:02:16Mix the toothpaste with the baking soda powder and spread it evenly on the pad.
00:02:21Place it on the soles of your feet and slip a sock on so it's nice and snuggly.
00:02:26The pad should keep the mixture and moisture in, so you don't make a mess all over your house.
00:02:32After an hour or two, rinse off the toothpaste mixture with plenty of water.
00:02:36You'll notice how soft the soles of your feet have become.
00:02:40For that extra step, add some moisturizer too.
00:02:44Those trusty sanitary pads can be used for all sorts of stuff around your house too, like for freshening up
00:02:50your drawers.
00:02:52Just spritz some perfume on a pad, place it next to your clothes of choice, and voila!
00:02:58Your gym clothes, for example, will smell like a fragrant bouquet.
00:03:01And don't forget to throw one in your gym bag too.
00:03:05Oh boy, time to give those lampshades the love they deserve.
00:03:09Grab a trusty lint roller and watch in amazement as you unveil a whole new world of colors underneath that
00:03:15forever dust.
00:03:16Who knew your lampshades were secretly chameleon?
00:03:21Say goodbye to dog hair and hello to your new household best friend, the rubber squeegee brush.
00:03:27This bad boy can snatch up so much fur from your carpet that you'll be wondering if you even own
00:03:32a pet.
00:03:33Just stroke it short and quick over your rug and watch it unleash a furry storm.
00:03:38And if you're wondering about your hardwood floors, fear not.
00:03:41The rubber bristles work like magic to create one giant fur ball.
00:03:48Save yourself from cleaning cabinets and furniture tops by hooking them up with fashionable hats.
00:03:54They're made out of wax paper or paper bags.
00:03:57The dirt and grease will stick to your new accessories.
00:04:00And when it's time for a new look, just swap them out every few months.
00:04:04You know that feeling when you finally peel off a bumper sticker or parking permit, but then you're left with
00:04:10a sticky mess?
00:04:11There's a simple solution, though.
00:04:13Slap a wet piece of newspaper on top of that gunk and let it marinate for 15 minutes.
00:04:19Then, poof!
00:04:20The glue will be as soft as a fluffy cloud and you can wipe it away with ease.
00:04:25If your dishwasher is stinking up your kitchen, it's time to get your detective hat on.
00:04:30Check that filter for any leftovers lurking in there.
00:04:33Then, add a splash of vinegar to your next hot wash cycle.
00:04:37Those pesky food particles could be the culprits behind your dishwasher's funky fragrance.
00:04:43Get ready to be a Vaseline wizard.
00:04:46Say goodbye to pesky polish smudges with a simple solution.
00:04:50Slather some Vaseline around your nails before you go to town with a brush.
00:04:55Once you're done, wipe away the excess without the need for any nail polish remover.
00:04:59And if you're feeling fancy, make that perfume last even longer by adding a touch of Vaseline to your neck
00:05:06and wrists.
00:05:07It's like a scent superhero, keeping those fragrance molecules from flying away too soon.
00:05:13Have you checked out your shower curtain lately?
00:05:16It might be looking pretty grimy and gross.
00:05:19Toss that bad boy in the washing machine with a couple of towels and voila!
00:05:23No more soap scum stains!
00:05:25The towels will help with scrubbing away all that mess while they're tumbling in the washing machine.
00:05:31Say goodbye to single socks with a strip of foam pipe insulation.
00:05:36Measure and cut each piece.
00:05:38Then place it in that sneaky gap between your washer and dryer or wall.
00:05:42Those pesky socks will never go missing again.
00:05:47Got a wobbly table that's cramping your style?
00:05:51Your trusty bottle cork is here to save the day.
00:05:55Slice off a piece of that bad boy, glue it to the wobbly leg, and voila!
00:06:00You've got yourself a sturdy surface to rest your drink on.
00:06:06A hammer is more than just a smashing tool.
00:06:10The back of this tool can actually hold a nail for you.
00:06:15No more risking your fingers or giving yourself a thumbectomy.
00:06:19Just slide it into the claw, and bam!
00:06:23You're ready to nail it!
00:06:26Want to know the saucy way to pick up a sizzling lid?
00:06:30Ditch those boring oven mitts and grab yourself a pair of tongs.
00:06:35But wait!
00:06:36Don't just go in head first.
00:06:38Use the middle.
00:06:40Trust me, it's hot and it's effective.
00:06:44Care to find out how to keep your dressing gown from slipping and sliding all over the place?
00:06:50Got you covered!
00:06:52Instead of going through all the loops, just place the cord through the front ones.
00:06:57You don't even need it to be wrapped around you.
00:07:01All the business will be in the front.
00:07:04Tie that cord up nice and tight, and you'll be strutting around in no time.
00:07:11Bet you didn't know the right way to light a multi-wit candle.
00:07:16You'll never hurt the tips of your fingers again.
00:07:19Truth is, you don't light them one by one.
00:07:23Just light the first one.
00:07:25Then angle the candle in the right position, so it lights up the other ones too.
00:07:32So, apparently, we've all been using deodorant wrong.
00:07:37Who knew?
00:07:38You're supposed to lather that stuff on before going to bed.
00:07:43That's because our underarms are supposed to soak it in overnight for maximum effectiveness.
00:07:51I'm here to save you from the USB struggle bus.
00:07:55You know that symbol on the cord?
00:07:57Yeah, it's not just there for decoration.
00:08:01Align the seam with the opposite edge of the tongue, and voila!
00:08:05You're in business.
00:08:06No more flipping it upside down and sideways like a crazy person.
00:08:10Thank me later.
00:08:12Even when you listen to the instructions and create a strong password for any of your online accounts,
00:08:18you're still not entirely safe from hackers.
00:08:21They always come up with new ways to crack what you think might finally be a good and secure password.
00:08:28For example, there's a password manager tool that has taken a look at more than 60 million passwords from data
00:08:35breaches.
00:08:37It turns out the majority of people choose passwords that aren't that unique.
00:08:43I love you, Ferrari, and Password1234 are some of the most popular ones, together with Star Wars.
00:08:51For hackers, these are really not difficult to guess.
00:08:55Plus, they have special tools that help them with cracking passwords.
00:09:01For example, one takes a list of dictionary words and then uses them to find out passwords.
00:09:07With this tool, you can try millions of words in a pretty short time.
00:09:12It's able to do some sneaky things, too, such as replacing an E with 3, or an A with an
00:09:20at sign.
00:09:22This tool also noticed that there were a lot of people who believed they were unique and creative with their
00:09:28passwords
00:09:29because they used a tactic we call password walking.
00:09:33It's when your fingers walk across the keyboard,
00:09:36and you create a password using keys that are next to each other.
00:09:40For example, QWERTY or ASDFG.
00:09:45It may seem meaningless enough to be safe, but you're not the only one who's thought of it.
00:09:50And hackers know it.
00:09:52They can upload basically any number of different variations into some of their tools to test them out.
00:09:58So it's just a matter of time before they find out what your password is.
00:10:08Here's a big no-no.
00:10:10Using the same password for multiple websites.
00:10:12Hackers love when you do that, because once they figure out one password,
00:10:17they can use it to access all your other accounts, too.
00:10:21Let's say your base password is Porsche.
00:10:24Then you add a few numbers and symbols to the end to create a unique password for each site you
00:10:29use,
00:10:30like Porsche 3% 5% for Facebook,
00:10:35or Porsche 5$7 carat for Twitter.
00:10:42Most of us use the same principle at some point.
00:10:45The thing is that hackers are not going for your bank account or WorkVPN first,
00:10:51even though one of the main goals is to get there.
00:10:54They'll use their special tools to try out lots and lots of different usernames and passwords
00:10:59on websites that might not have the best security,
00:11:03such as an online forum you often visit,
00:11:05or maybe an e-commerce site where you've had some shopping lately.
00:11:11All they have to do is try different variations of your base password,
00:11:15like Porsche 1 or Porsche 123,
00:11:19and sooner or later, they'll crack the code and gain access to all your accounts.
00:11:25And if they get lucky and guess your login info for one of those sites,
00:11:29they can then use that info to try and access more important sites.
00:11:36And we're not talking about some genius hackers here.
00:11:40They use simple tricks, like checking your social media profiles.
00:11:44If you've ever mentioned your dog's name or your kid's birthdate on Facebook, for example,
00:11:49a hacker could use that info to guess your passwords.
00:11:53So, chappy123 is out.
00:11:58So, what's the solution here?
00:12:00First, stop trying to come up with some unique passwords based on things in your life.
00:12:06Instead, use a password manager to generate strong, random passwords for all your accounts.
00:12:12And make sure those passwords are long and include a variety of characters,
00:12:17not just lowercase letters.
00:12:20Plus, it's much safer to create unique, random passwords for each site you use.
00:12:26That way, even if a hacker does manage to crack one of your passwords,
00:12:30they won't be able to access all your other accounts as well.
00:12:34And you won't have to remember all those crazy passwords yourself.
00:12:38The password manager will do it for you.
00:12:43Also, it's better to have a long password.
00:12:47The tools hackers use crack shorter passwords with lowercase letters way faster.
00:12:52If you add only one asterisk and one capital letter,
00:12:56it will change the processing time for, let's say,
00:12:59a password with eight characters from 2.4 days to 2.1 centuries.
00:13:07Here's another scam they use to get your password.
00:13:11Let's say you're playing a game of capture the flag,
00:13:14and the other team manages to break into your fort and steal your flag.
00:13:19They now know exactly where your fort is and how to get in.
00:13:24That's basically what hackers do in data breaches.
00:13:28They break into a company's fort, their database,
00:13:32and steal all the sensitive information they can find,
00:13:35like your passwords, credit card details, and even your social security number.
00:13:42Then, they sell this information to other bad guys on the dark net,
00:13:46who can use it to pretend to be you and steal your money or even your identity.
00:13:51Stay up to date on news of data breaches
00:13:54and change your passwords immediately if one of your accounts was affected.
00:13:58And if you receive an email about a data breach, don't respond to it.
00:14:03Instead, visit the company's website
00:14:05or call their official customer support number to verify the situation.
00:14:12Phishing is when these thieves send you fake emails
00:14:15that look like they're from important people or companies,
00:14:18like the president or your bank.
00:14:22They might even ask you to click on a link that takes you to a fake website
00:14:26that looks real, but it's actually a trap.
00:14:30If you fall for their tricks and give them your password or personal information,
00:14:35they can use it to sneak into your computer and steal more stuff.
00:14:39Yikes!
00:14:40Don't reply to strange messages or click on weird links.
00:14:44If you're not sure if an email is real or fake,
00:14:47do some detective work and contact the sender directly through their official website.
00:14:52And remember, never, ever give away your personal information to anyone,
00:14:56even if they claim to be your long-lost cousin or a famous celebrity.
00:15:03Have you ever gotten an email that says something like,
00:15:07Reset your password now!
00:15:08But you don't remember asking for it.
00:15:12Yep, hackers once again.
00:15:14They send you fake emails that look like they're from a website you use,
00:15:19like Facebook or Amazon.
00:15:21They'll say something like,
00:15:22Your account has been hacked!
00:15:24Reset your password now to be safe!
00:15:28But if you click on the link they provide,
00:15:31it'll take you to a fake website that looks real,
00:15:34and hackers will be able to see any information you put in there.
00:15:38So, if something in your email seems weird,
00:15:41it's probably a scam.
00:15:43Check for signs of fraud,
00:15:45like spelling mistakes or strange designs,
00:15:48and always make sure to check the sender's email address
00:15:51to see if it matches the website they're claiming to be from.
00:15:57If hackers manage to get your passwords,
00:15:59they can cause serious issues to your reputation,
00:16:02finances, and other things related to your online identity.
00:16:06That means access to your social media accounts,
00:16:09email, personal identifiable information, and more.
00:16:15Let's play detective and spot the signs of a hacked password.
00:16:19First, if your password suddenly stops working,
00:16:22it might mean a hacker has changed it.
00:16:25So, if you're locked out of your account for no reason,
00:16:28it's time to investigate.
00:16:32Next, if your computer starts acting slow and sluggish,
00:16:36it could be a sign that it's been infected
00:16:39with password-stealing malware.
00:16:41Another thing to watch out for
00:16:42is finding your personal information on the dark web.
00:16:46That's like the sketchy black market of the internet
00:16:49where hackers sell stolen data.
00:16:51If you see your info for sale there,
00:16:54it's time to take action.
00:16:57Have you ever heard of ransomware?
00:17:00It's a type of malware
00:17:01that locks you out of your own computer
00:17:03and demands money if you want to regain control.
00:17:07Yikes!
00:17:08In Costa Rica,
00:17:09hackers even attacked local authorities
00:17:11with this nasty stuff.
00:17:15Last but not least,
00:17:16if your friends or family
00:17:18start receiving strange messages from you online,
00:17:21it's a red flag that someone else
00:17:23might be using your accounts.
00:17:25So, if your BFF gets a message from you
00:17:28about buying a Nigerian prince's yacht,
00:17:31it's probably time to change your passwords.
00:17:34ASAP.
00:17:40Hey, buddy!
00:17:41Looks like you had some fun in the great outdoors.
00:17:45As adorable as those paw prints look,
00:17:47your mama still needs to clean them.
00:17:51Spreading soda over the carpet
00:17:53and then vacuuming it
00:17:54works like magic for such cases.
00:17:58Artistic people can be messy sometimes.
00:18:01No judgment here.
00:18:02I know it's all part of the creative process.
00:18:06But this hack will actually help save time
00:18:08from cleaning only to paint more.
00:18:12I think that's more than enough laundry detergent.
00:18:16Yep, she agrees with me.
00:18:18There's a way to make sure
00:18:19he uses the right amount next time.
00:18:23Just put the ice tray in the freezer
00:18:25and you'll have yourself
00:18:26gently detergent cubes.
00:18:30Hey, this will save you money too, you know.
00:18:33Cleaning your brushes is such a bore.
00:18:36It's definitely something
00:18:37that tests one's patience.
00:18:40This shaving foam hack
00:18:41will save you a lot of time.
00:18:44I feel like that amount of hair
00:18:46will clog the sink, though.
00:18:48Remember what parents always say.
00:18:50Wash your hands before eating something.
00:18:55But looks like that's not an easy task
00:18:57with those melted soap bars.
00:19:00A couple of rubber bands
00:19:02will help you save your soap.
00:19:06It won't be touching water all the time
00:19:08and therefore, it'll last longer.
00:19:12Oh man, I hate it when bottles
00:19:14get all dirty inside.
00:19:17If you're not Mr. Fantastic
00:19:18with the ability to stretch your body
00:19:20into any shape,
00:19:21then this looks like an impossible task.
00:19:26Hey, wait.
00:19:27Maybe I was looking at it the wrong way.
00:19:30Magneto's powers
00:19:30will work perfectly fine here.
00:19:34I feel like you'll need
00:19:35a stronger magnet, however.
00:19:37Wow, this bottle looks brand new now.
00:19:40Don't you just hate that
00:19:41cooking and cleaning takes forever,
00:19:43but eating the dish you made
00:19:44takes like 15 minutes?
00:19:49Guess that guy leaves
00:19:50all the hard work to the lady.
00:19:53Don't worry, miss.
00:19:54There's a way you can avoid this disaster.
00:19:58Just cover the surfaces
00:19:59with stretch film
00:20:00and that's it.
00:20:02Now, you don't need to get anxious
00:20:04about all the cleaning
00:20:05you'll have to do later.
00:20:08Hope this won't cause you
00:20:09to be late for your work.
00:20:12Because how are you going
00:20:14to explain this to your boss?
00:20:17You can't just say
00:20:18I had to wait
00:20:18for the stinky odor
00:20:19to go away.
00:20:23It's always a real struggle
00:20:25to get the corners,
00:20:26am I right?
00:20:28But it's nothing
00:20:29a couple of straws can't fix.
00:20:32No dust left behind
00:20:34is the motto.
00:20:35You can firmly clean
00:20:36all the nooks and crannies
00:20:37that the regular vacuum head
00:20:39can't get to.
00:20:43If you're a jar collector
00:20:44like I am,
00:20:45then you already got
00:20:46everything you'll need
00:20:47for this hack.
00:20:51This is what being smart
00:20:52looks like, everyone.
00:20:54By the way,
00:20:55looks like you've been
00:20:56postponing doing the dishes
00:20:57for a while now, huh?
00:21:01Don't worry,
00:21:02no judgments.
00:21:03We've all been there.
00:21:05Those toothbrushes
00:21:06were basically
00:21:07swimming in there.
00:21:09But the glass
00:21:10filling up with water
00:21:11is inevitable,
00:21:12really.
00:21:13However,
00:21:14Orbeez balls
00:21:15can make the process
00:21:16a lot slower.
00:21:18Somebody needs
00:21:19to replace
00:21:19the paper towel.
00:21:22But don't head
00:21:23to the store just yet.
00:21:25I suggest you
00:21:26ditch paper towels
00:21:27altogether
00:21:27and go for this
00:21:28reusable option.
00:21:31You'll be saving
00:21:32a lot of bucks.
00:21:33Thank me later.
00:21:35Whoa,
00:21:36have you been collecting
00:21:37dirty makeup sponges
00:21:38or what?
00:21:40Don't use them
00:21:41until they're all clean.
00:21:43Otherwise,
00:21:43I'm pretty sure
00:21:44they'll give you pimples.
00:21:47Looks like this
00:21:48is gonna take a while.
00:21:50But the satisfaction
00:21:51you'll get
00:21:52once you see them
00:21:53all clean
00:21:53will be worth it.
00:21:56These kind of look
00:21:57like Easter eggs
00:21:58to me.
00:21:59By the way,
00:22:00do you really need
00:22:01that many sponges
00:22:01to do your makeup?
00:22:05Do you need
00:22:06to do your makeup?
00:22:06games until someone
00:22:07spills all the glitter
00:22:08on the floor.
00:22:10Worry not,
00:22:11we got you.
00:22:13Hey,
00:22:13good to see you recycling.
00:22:15No,
00:22:16you don't need
00:22:16a bigger bin,
00:22:17trust me.
00:22:18All you need
00:22:19is to know
00:22:19this one hack.
00:22:21And let's get
00:22:22this one thing straight.
00:22:23I know this is science,
00:22:24but it sure feels
00:22:25like magic.
00:22:28Honey,
00:22:29I shrunk the trash.
00:22:31Look at the difference
00:22:32here.
00:22:33It's a relief
00:22:33to see you don't
00:22:34have a pile
00:22:35of dirty dishes
00:22:35like the lady before.
00:22:38But how are you
00:22:39going to explain
00:22:40that sink?
00:22:41Seems like you've
00:22:42been ignoring it
00:22:42for quite some time now.
00:22:46That's why you need
00:22:47something strong
00:22:48to scrub there.
00:22:51But I have
00:22:52a better solution,
00:22:53one that won't
00:22:54tire you.
00:22:56Just apply a coat
00:22:57of dish soap
00:22:58and soda mixture
00:22:58all around the sink
00:23:00and wait.
00:23:02I wouldn't believe
00:23:03how it works wonders
00:23:04if I didn't see it
00:23:05with my own eyes.
00:23:08You're going to hurt
00:23:09your back and knees
00:23:10cleaning like this.
00:23:13You know,
00:23:14robot vacuum cleaners
00:23:15don't need coffee breaks,
00:23:16right?
00:23:18So put that thing
00:23:19to work.
00:23:20In the meantime,
00:23:21you can just relax
00:23:22and maybe even start
00:23:23reading the book
00:23:24you bought
00:23:24six months ago.
00:23:28No matter how many times
00:23:29you clean the stove,
00:23:30it always gets dirty
00:23:31at the end of the day,
00:23:32right?
00:23:35Well,
00:23:36not anymore.
00:23:37Hey,
00:23:38I think I'm going to
00:23:38give this a try
00:23:39using glitter glue.
00:23:40It'll help make
00:23:41things more fun.
00:23:44You should have bought
00:23:45a trash bin
00:23:45with a lid
00:23:47to avoid
00:23:48the awful stents,
00:23:48you know.
00:23:50Although this hack
00:23:51won't make the trash
00:23:52smell good or anything,
00:23:53it will at least
00:23:54help keep your bin
00:23:54fresh and nice.
00:23:59I know this is not
00:24:00a food hacks video,
00:24:02but that doesn't
00:24:02stop me from
00:24:03wanting some snacks now.
00:24:06Even if you're too old
00:24:07to play with slimes,
00:24:08it might be a good idea
00:24:09to keep one at home
00:24:10for stuff like this.
00:24:19If I were you,
00:24:20I would still
00:24:21disinfect that
00:24:21with antibacterial wipes
00:24:23or something,
00:24:23just in case.
00:24:26Hey,
00:24:26it's her turn
00:24:27to pick the movie now.
00:24:29Uh-oh,
00:24:30someone's forgotten
00:24:31to add laundry powder
00:24:32to the shopping list.
00:24:34That's okay,
00:24:35you can still make
00:24:36your own
00:24:36with everyday things,
00:24:37such as baking soda
00:24:39and a soap bar.
00:24:41This lady is one
00:24:42of the lucky ones
00:24:43because she has
00:24:44a dishwasher.
00:24:46Placing a piece of lemon,
00:24:48even one that's been
00:24:48juiced,
00:24:49will help freshen the load
00:24:50and leave your dishes
00:24:51looking shinier.
00:24:55This is why
00:24:56I never wear white socks
00:24:57if I'm going to visit
00:24:58someone else's house.
00:25:01Because I don't really
00:25:02want to see how dirty
00:25:03their floors might be,
00:25:04you know.
00:25:07Using bleach
00:25:08for situations
00:25:09like this may help,
00:25:10but it might also
00:25:11ruin your garments.
00:25:14That's why
00:25:15this hack
00:25:15is the better option
00:25:16to make white clothes
00:25:17look great again.
00:25:20You might want
00:25:21to clean the microwave
00:25:22after you're done,
00:25:23though.
00:25:25This phone case
00:25:26looks like it's been
00:25:26through some tough stuff.
00:25:30Let's give it
00:25:31the second chance
00:25:32it deserves.
00:25:33All you need to do
00:25:34is apply WD-40 spray,
00:25:36pour some soda,
00:25:37and rinse it out.
00:25:39By the way,
00:25:40if you have sensitive skin,
00:25:41you might want to wear
00:25:42protective gloves
00:25:43to avoid irritation.
00:25:46Better safe than sorry.
00:25:48Cleaning stubborn stains
00:25:49on a glass stove top
00:25:51can be tricky.
00:25:53There's always the risk
00:25:54of causing scratches
00:25:55on the surface.
00:25:58That's why
00:25:59any type of scrubbing
00:26:00or scraping action
00:26:01is not advised.
00:26:03Did you know
00:26:04that according to
00:26:05one poll,
00:26:06an average person
00:26:06spends more than
00:26:07six days a year
00:26:08washing dishes?
00:26:11Then there's all
00:26:12the other cleaning stuff
00:26:13that needs to be done.
00:26:16But knowing
00:26:17the right hacks
00:26:18will save you
00:26:18a lot of time
00:26:19and make your life
00:26:20so much easier.
00:26:23Wow,
00:26:24your shoes
00:26:24are definitely
00:26:25cleaner than this house.
00:26:27Who knew
00:26:28shoelaces would work
00:26:29like a charm
00:26:29when it comes
00:26:30to getting rid
00:26:30of all the dust
00:26:31and rust?
00:26:34Is it time
00:26:35to go to bed yet
00:26:36or are you tired
00:26:37of all the work
00:26:37you've done
00:26:38around the house?
00:26:41I was being sarcastic.
00:26:43Your partner
00:26:43did all the work.
00:26:45So saving her toothbrush
00:26:47is the least
00:26:48you can do.
00:26:49If you see someone
00:26:50putting ketchup
00:26:51on some car,
00:26:52it doesn't mean
00:26:53you're witnessing
00:26:54them preparing
00:26:55a prank.
00:26:55It means
00:26:57they're just
00:26:57taking care
00:26:58of their car.
00:26:59Yup,
00:27:00it goes great
00:27:01with hamburgers
00:27:01and hot dogs,
00:27:02but it goes
00:27:03even better
00:27:04with cars
00:27:05since it has
00:27:05ingredients
00:27:06that are good
00:27:07at removing rust.
00:27:09Rust occurs
00:27:10when the metal
00:27:11gets exposed
00:27:11to moisture,
00:27:12oxygen,
00:27:13and heat,
00:27:14and due to
00:27:15weather conditions,
00:27:16it's hard
00:27:16to avoid it.
00:27:17When you leave
00:27:18rust for a longer
00:27:19time and don't
00:27:20deal with it,
00:27:21it will continue
00:27:22to degrade
00:27:23the metal.
00:27:24So you need
00:27:25to get rid of it
00:27:26before your car
00:27:27becomes physically
00:27:28useless.
00:27:30That's when
00:27:31ketchup comes in.
00:27:32Its key ingredient
00:27:33is tomatoes,
00:27:34and they have
00:27:36many nutrients
00:27:36similar to those
00:27:37you can find
00:27:38in oranges
00:27:39and some other
00:27:40citrus fruits.
00:27:42For instance,
00:27:43citric acid
00:27:44can help you
00:27:44remove rust
00:27:45from metal surfaces
00:27:46since it eats
00:27:47through rust.
00:27:48We're not talking
00:27:49about the cars only.
00:27:51You can use it
00:27:52on metallic kitchenware
00:27:53furniture parts,
00:27:55jewelry,
00:27:55and rust spots
00:27:56on generally
00:27:57any metallic item.
00:27:59You can combine
00:28:00it with washing soda.
00:28:02It's not quite
00:28:03effective against rust,
00:28:04but when you combine
00:28:05it with ketchup,
00:28:06it'll do the work.
00:28:08Mix these two
00:28:09and apply them
00:28:10to the rusted area.
00:28:12Leave it like that
00:28:13for about half an hour
00:28:14and wash it
00:28:15with a wet cloth
00:28:16or sponge.
00:28:18You can combine
00:28:19ketchup with salt
00:28:21instead,
00:28:21or just apply
00:28:23a lot of it
00:28:24on the rusty area
00:28:25without using
00:28:26any additional ingredients.
00:28:28Ketchup removes
00:28:29tarnish from
00:28:30brass copper too.
00:28:32Put it on brass hardware
00:28:33on doors
00:28:34and cabinets
00:28:35or some accessories
00:28:36such as bowls
00:28:37and candlesticks
00:28:38for 10 minutes
00:28:39to make it all shine.
00:28:42And also,
00:28:43you don't put it
00:28:44on meat
00:28:44just because of taste.
00:28:46Ketchup breaks
00:28:47down its fibers,
00:28:47which means
00:28:48it makes it more tender.
00:28:51If you've left
00:28:52a pot on the stove
00:28:53and your food burned,
00:28:55once again,
00:28:55take ketchup.
00:28:56Its acids
00:28:57will ease
00:28:58all the scrubbing
00:28:59and help you
00:29:00with grease.
00:29:01Just leave it
00:29:02over the night
00:29:03and you'll be able
00:29:04to wash the pot
00:29:05more easily.
00:29:06Or,
00:29:07keep those small
00:29:08packages of ketchup
00:29:09we all end up having
00:29:10from fast food orders
00:29:11in the freezer.
00:29:12The ketchup
00:29:13won't be as hard
00:29:14as an ice cube
00:29:14as it freezes.
00:29:16So,
00:29:16it will be good
00:29:17for soothing
00:29:18insect bites
00:29:19or similar things.
00:29:21Okay,
00:29:22enough with ketchup already.
00:29:23I'm getting hungry.
00:29:25Your home
00:29:25has more regular things
00:29:27that can do magic tricks.
00:29:28Like,
00:29:29if you have a house
00:29:30or a big terrace
00:29:31and want to make
00:29:32a nice flower wall,
00:29:34try old mattress springs.
00:29:36Just hang them
00:29:36on the wall
00:29:37and let your imagination
00:29:38run wild
00:29:39with flowers.
00:29:41An old flower sifter
00:29:43can still come in handy.
00:29:45For example,
00:29:45as a planter,
00:29:47even if you don't have one,
00:29:48you might find it
00:29:49at a garage sale
00:29:50or a thrift store.
00:29:52Wallpaper is making
00:29:54its big comeback
00:29:55when it comes
00:29:55to home design.
00:29:57Maybe you can try
00:29:58something different
00:29:58and use some old books
00:30:00with torn pages.
00:30:01You just need to learn
00:30:03the basics
00:30:03of hanging wallpaper
00:30:05and voila!
00:30:06You get a new cool place
00:30:07for your old books.
00:30:10There's a solution
00:30:11for the remains
00:30:12of an old book.
00:30:13Don't worry.
00:30:14You can have blocks
00:30:15where you'll keep
00:30:16your kitchen knives.
00:30:17It's pretty original,
00:30:18don't you think?
00:30:20Cleaning blinds
00:30:21can be frustrating,
00:30:23but the next time
00:30:24you do it,
00:30:25try doing it
00:30:25with a sock
00:30:26over your hand.
00:30:28Hands are kind of
00:30:29perfectly shaped
00:30:29for getting all those
00:30:31nooks and crannies
00:30:31on the blinds.
00:30:32And the sock
00:30:33will do the rest.
00:30:36Here's something
00:30:37you wouldn't expect.
00:30:38ice cubes
00:30:39ice cubes
00:30:39can help you
00:30:40remove gum
00:30:41from carpet,
00:30:42clothing,
00:30:42and hair.
00:30:44Just put your clothes
00:30:45in the sink
00:30:46and add ice cubes.
00:30:47Leave it like that
00:30:48for a while.
00:30:49Ice will freeze the gum
00:30:51so you can chip it away
00:30:52more easily.
00:30:53If the gum
00:30:54got stuck
00:30:55on the carpet,
00:30:56leave ice cubes
00:30:57right in the critical spot
00:30:59and remove the gum
00:31:00with a butter knife.
00:31:01It's a little bit harder
00:31:03to remove it
00:31:03from hair though,
00:31:04but still possible.
00:31:06Just wrap the ice
00:31:07and parts of your hair
00:31:08with the gum
00:31:09in a washcloth
00:31:10until the gum
00:31:11gets frozen.
00:31:12When you get there,
00:31:14you should be able
00:31:15to break apart the gum
00:31:16and free your hair
00:31:17using your fingers.
00:31:19Or,
00:31:20next time you have
00:31:21to deal with a splinter,
00:31:22just take one ice cube
00:31:24to numb that area
00:31:25before you even
00:31:26start doing anything.
00:31:29Vacuuming can't suck
00:31:30all that dust
00:31:31out of your cushions,
00:31:32but a tennis racket can.
00:31:34It's a tool
00:31:35firm enough
00:31:36to beat the dust,
00:31:37but at the same time,
00:31:38it has holes
00:31:39where dust can go through.
00:31:42If you have some
00:31:43old CD spindles
00:31:44you don't use anymore,
00:31:46bring one of them
00:31:47back to life,
00:31:47this time
00:31:48as a bagel tote.
00:31:50It doesn't take up
00:31:51a lot of space
00:31:52in your backpack,
00:31:53plus,
00:31:54you can close it
00:31:55so your bagel
00:31:56doesn't fall apart.
00:31:58It doesn't look
00:31:59like that at first,
00:32:00but there's a lot
00:32:01you can do
00:32:02with a tennis ball too.
00:32:03For example,
00:32:04use it as a bottle opener
00:32:06for twist-off bottle caps
00:32:07or maybe sticky jar lids.
00:32:10Cut along the seam
00:32:12of a ball
00:32:12so you'll have a tool
00:32:14coated with rubber
00:32:15on the inside.
00:32:16It gives a great grip.
00:32:18And it doesn't stop here
00:32:20for tennis balls.
00:32:21You can cap your chair legs
00:32:22to protect your floor.
00:32:24You can leave some
00:32:25in a pool
00:32:25if you have one too.
00:32:27Pools quickly become
00:32:28very dirty
00:32:29if you're using them frequently.
00:32:30And tennis balls
00:32:32can absorb
00:32:32some of the oil
00:32:33coming from the people
00:32:34and the rest of the goop
00:32:36that floats on the surface.
00:32:38Another frustrating task
00:32:40is removing
00:32:40floor scuff marks.
00:32:42Yup,
00:32:42a tennis ball
00:32:43once again.
00:32:44Just place it on a stick.
00:32:46It works like an eraser.
00:32:48It can also be
00:32:49a great tool
00:32:50for massage.
00:32:51You can try
00:32:52with your back.
00:32:53Lie down on the ball
00:32:54on the floor
00:32:55and place the tennis ball
00:32:56on the spots
00:32:57where you feel
00:32:57the most pressure.
00:32:58Or maybe put it
00:33:00against the wall
00:33:01and massage stiff parts.
00:33:03Or something I need,
00:33:05a tennis ball
00:33:06as a holder
00:33:07where I can keep
00:33:08my reminders.
00:33:09Just cut a slit
00:33:10into its side
00:33:11and place your message
00:33:12inside.
00:33:12It can be a cool gift too.
00:33:14Or add a small metal
00:33:15or wooden piece
00:33:16so you have
00:33:17a key holder too.
00:33:20Bread tabs
00:33:20can be great
00:33:21for labeling cords
00:33:22and never getting lost
00:33:24down there
00:33:24with your power strip.
00:33:26Plastic bread tabs
00:33:27are sturdy
00:33:28and there's enough
00:33:29room on them
00:33:29to write what
00:33:30the cable is for
00:33:31and easily clip it
00:33:32around the end
00:33:33of a cord.
00:33:34Plus they come
00:33:35in different colors
00:33:36so you'll easily
00:33:37recognize them
00:33:38and know which
00:33:39electrical device
00:33:40you can turn off.
00:33:42You don't have to
00:33:43immediately throw away
00:33:45an empty milk jug.
00:33:46Just take sharp scissors
00:33:47and cut off its top.
00:33:49Then clean up the cut
00:33:51so you're sure
00:33:51there are no sharp edges.
00:33:53Now you have a new scoop
00:33:54for potting soil,
00:33:56food for your dog
00:33:56or whatever you need
00:33:58it for.
00:33:59A bobby pin
00:34:00is a great nail holder.
00:34:02You can easily
00:34:03get distracted
00:34:03and hammer a finger
00:34:05when working
00:34:05with tiny nails.
00:34:06So it would be
00:34:07better to go
00:34:08with a common bobby pin
00:34:09to keep your fingers
00:34:10at a safe distance.
00:34:13If you don't have
00:34:14enough space
00:34:15for your cookbook
00:34:16while preparing a meal,
00:34:17take a pants hanger
00:34:18and attach
00:34:19your recipes there.
00:34:21Also,
00:34:22if you have
00:34:22a broken pants hanger,
00:34:24you don't need
00:34:24to throw it away
00:34:25or at least
00:34:26not all the pieces.
00:34:28You can remove clips
00:34:29and use them
00:34:30for pasta
00:34:31or some other
00:34:32open packs
00:34:32in your kitchen.
00:34:34Don't throw away
00:34:35an empty ketchup bottle.
00:34:37You can use it
00:34:38for a pancake mix
00:34:39so it doesn't get
00:34:40too messy
00:34:40when you're preparing
00:34:41this delicious breakfast.
00:34:44It can get tricky
00:34:45to carry your stuff
00:34:46at the beach
00:34:47so take an old
00:34:48lotion bottle
00:34:49and clean it out
00:34:49so you can put
00:34:50your money,
00:34:51phone,
00:34:51and keys inside.
00:34:53Less chance
00:34:54someone will take
00:34:55any of this stuff
00:34:56even if they manage
00:34:57to take a peek
00:34:58inside your bag.
00:35:02You must have noticed
00:35:03those lines
00:35:04on some kinds of chips.
00:35:05For one thing,
00:35:06they help with
00:35:07the distribution
00:35:07of spices and seasonings.
00:35:09In other words,
00:35:11all those substances
00:35:12that make your chips
00:35:13taste like cheese
00:35:14are mostly stored
00:35:15inside the lines.
00:35:17Plus,
00:35:18the lines make
00:35:19chips crunchier.
00:35:21Some cars
00:35:22have a tiny
00:35:23coffee cup sign
00:35:24on their dashboard.
00:35:26It's the vehicle's
00:35:27anti-drowsiness mechanism.
00:35:29There are manufacturers
00:35:31that equip their cars
00:35:32with a drowsiness
00:35:33detection system.
00:35:35It analyzes the speed,
00:35:37wheel angle,
00:35:37and lane deviations
00:35:39to figure out
00:35:40if it's time
00:35:40for the driver
00:35:41to take a break.
00:35:42If it is,
00:35:43the vehicle makes
00:35:44several audio signals
00:35:46and the coffee cup sign
00:35:47starts to flash.
00:35:50Some plastic milk containers
00:35:52have dents
00:35:53on their sides.
00:35:54These dents
00:35:55serve several purposes.
00:35:58For one thing,
00:35:58when milk spoils,
00:36:00this process
00:36:01usually causes swelling
00:36:02and high-pressure buildup
00:36:04inside the container.
00:36:05That's when the dent
00:36:06comes in handy.
00:36:07It pops out
00:36:08and doesn't let the jug
00:36:09blow up.
00:36:11Plus,
00:36:12if you decide
00:36:13to freeze the milk,
00:36:14it will expand
00:36:15like any other liquid.
00:36:17And then again,
00:36:18the indentation
00:36:19will pop out
00:36:19and prevent the container
00:36:21from breaking
00:36:21inside your freezer.
00:36:24You might have wondered
00:36:25why jerry cans
00:36:26have three handles.
00:36:28It's a clever designer move.
00:36:31This way,
00:36:32if you carry
00:36:32the container alone,
00:36:34you can use
00:36:35only the central handle
00:36:36to distribute
00:36:37the weight evenly.
00:36:39But,
00:36:39if your friend
00:36:40wants to help you out,
00:36:41each of you
00:36:42can grab the side handle.
00:36:45The first jeans
00:36:46had a problem.
00:36:47Workers and miners,
00:36:48who were the original
00:36:49jeans wearers,
00:36:50put too much pressure
00:36:51on the poor piece
00:36:52of clothing.
00:36:53As a result,
00:36:55the seams
00:36:55couldn't withstand
00:36:56the stress
00:36:57and tore.
00:36:59Tiny metal studs
00:37:00were invented
00:37:01to prevent this
00:37:02from happening.
00:37:04Sticky notes
00:37:05come off
00:37:05relatively easily
00:37:06because their adhesive
00:37:08is spread out
00:37:09across the paper
00:37:09unevenly
00:37:10in small blobs.
00:37:12And only some
00:37:13of these blobs
00:37:14touch the surface
00:37:15of whatever
00:37:15you've stuck
00:37:16the note on.
00:37:17That's why
00:37:18when you unstick
00:37:19a post-it
00:37:19and attach it
00:37:20to something else,
00:37:21it still works
00:37:22until all the glue
00:37:24gets used
00:37:24or covered with dirt.
00:37:27Soda bottles
00:37:28are always filled
00:37:29in such a way
00:37:30that there's some space
00:37:31between the liquid
00:37:32and the cap.
00:37:34That's because soda
00:37:35contains carbon dioxide.
00:37:37It's a gas
00:37:38that can expand
00:37:39once a bottle
00:37:40is heated.
00:37:41If there's no gap
00:37:42in the bottle,
00:37:43it can break
00:37:43because of the pressure
00:37:45building inside.
00:37:47Also,
00:37:48when you open your drink,
00:37:49the gases go out
00:37:50in the form of bubbles
00:37:51and the drink
00:37:52is likely to overflow.
00:37:54The gap helps
00:37:55with this problem too.
00:37:58Dental floss
00:37:59is super useful
00:38:00for your teeth,
00:38:01but it might be
00:38:02rather hard to operate.
00:38:04It regularly slips
00:38:05out of your fingers
00:38:06and tangles.
00:38:08To avoid these problems,
00:38:09tear off a piece
00:38:10of dental floss
00:38:11and tie its two ends together.
00:38:14It'll be much easier to use
00:38:16and won't hurt your fingers.
00:38:19Now,
00:38:19about those horizontal lines
00:38:21on plastic bottles.
00:38:23They help hold bottles up.
00:38:25Some bottles are produced
00:38:27from soft plastic.
00:38:29Without the lines,
00:38:30they wouldn't keep their shape.
00:38:32Instead,
00:38:33they would twist easily
00:38:34or even break.
00:38:37The soft round part
00:38:39under a soda bottle cap
00:38:40keeps the carbonation
00:38:41from escaping.
00:38:43Without it,
00:38:44your pop
00:38:45would go flat
00:38:46in no time,
00:38:47probably even
00:38:48before you buy it.
00:38:50If you don't have
00:38:51anywhere to put
00:38:52a toothpick
00:38:53after using it,
00:38:54break off its flat end
00:38:55at the first groove
00:38:57and place it
00:38:58on the table.
00:38:58Now,
00:38:59you can balance
00:39:00the used portion
00:39:01of your toothpick
00:39:02on the groove part
00:39:03so that it doesn't
00:39:04have to touch the table.
00:39:06You can also make
00:39:08a makeshift stand
00:39:09for disposable chopsticks.
00:39:11They have a sort of
00:39:12lump on one side.
00:39:14Break that lump off
00:39:15before you split the pair.
00:39:17Now,
00:39:18when you want
00:39:19to take a sushi break,
00:39:20just place the stick
00:39:21on this stand.
00:39:25Donuts are shaped
00:39:26like rings
00:39:26because otherwise,
00:39:27they might get
00:39:28overdone at the edges
00:39:30but uncooked
00:39:31and gooey inside.
00:39:33With a hole
00:39:34in the center,
00:39:35both the outside
00:39:36and the inside
00:39:37get ready
00:39:37at the same time.
00:39:40Ever notice
00:39:41that layer
00:39:42of clear fluid
00:39:43in gel pens?
00:39:44It's called
00:39:45the ink follower
00:39:46or stopper fluid.
00:39:48The gel
00:39:49in such pens
00:39:50contains pigment
00:39:51particles
00:39:52dissolved
00:39:52in a polymer solution.
00:39:54The gel
00:39:55should be thick enough
00:39:56to keep the pigment
00:39:57particles suspended
00:39:58but also thin enough
00:39:59to flow first
00:40:00onto the ball
00:40:01and then the paper.
00:40:04The main task
00:40:05of the stopper fluid
00:40:06is to be a barrier
00:40:07to prevent the gel
00:40:08from evaporating
00:40:09or leaking out.
00:40:11Without this transparent fluid,
00:40:13your gel pen
00:40:14wouldn't function.
00:40:15The fluid
00:40:16always stays
00:40:17in one position
00:40:18and doesn't get
00:40:19dissolved with the gel.
00:40:20Neither does it
00:40:21move backward
00:40:22or flow out
00:40:23of the pen.
00:40:25Some button-down shirts
00:40:27have a button
00:40:27hidden on the back
00:40:28of the collar.
00:40:30Its main purpose
00:40:31is to prevent
00:40:32the tie
00:40:33from sticking out
00:40:34from under the collar.
00:40:36As for that
00:40:37locker loop
00:40:37on the back,
00:40:39you can use it
00:40:40to hang the shirt
00:40:41on a hook
00:40:42to avoid wrinkling it.
00:40:45Outer rings
00:40:46and zipper sliders,
00:40:47especially when
00:40:48two sliders
00:40:49are used together,
00:40:49are added
00:40:50so that you can
00:40:51connect them
00:40:52with a lock
00:40:52and keep
00:40:53sticky fingers away.
00:40:56Most ambulance cars
00:40:58have this word
00:40:59printed on the front
00:41:00of the vehicle.
00:41:01That's the word
00:41:02ambulance backward.
00:41:04It's written in reverse
00:41:05so that the driver
00:41:07in front of the ambulance
00:41:08can see the word
00:41:09properly in their
00:41:10rearview mirror.
00:41:11Then they can move
00:41:13out of the way
00:41:13and let the ambulance pass.
00:41:17Escalator brushes
00:41:18serve an important
00:41:19safety purpose.
00:41:21You might have heard
00:41:22that most accidents
00:41:23happen after people
00:41:24get their bags
00:41:24or clothes stuck
00:41:26in escalators
00:41:26because they stand
00:41:28too close to the sides.
00:41:29But when there are
00:41:31nylon brushes
00:41:32on both sides,
00:41:33you can't but keep
00:41:34your feet away
00:41:34from the escalator's
00:41:35skirt panels.
00:41:36The result?
00:41:37No accidents.
00:41:40The side holes
00:41:41in sneakers
00:41:42are for laces.
00:41:44Since sneakers
00:41:45were originally invented
00:41:46for basketball players,
00:41:47this interesting design
00:41:49allowed them
00:41:50to accommodate
00:41:50any player's foot.
00:41:52They just needed
00:41:53to lace their sneakers
00:41:54in the most comfortable
00:41:55way for them.
00:41:57The holes
00:41:58in the bottoms
00:41:59of your earphones
00:42:00allow air
00:42:01to circulate up
00:42:02and through
00:42:03the speakers.
00:42:04It helps to increase
00:42:05low frequencies,
00:42:07making the bass
00:42:08sound deeper.
00:42:09The quality of the sound
00:42:10also becomes
00:42:11much better.
00:42:13Ever been stranded
00:42:14with a cup of applesauce
00:42:16but no spoon at hand?
00:42:18But each snack pack
00:42:20already has
00:42:20a built-in spoon.
00:42:22Several twists
00:42:23of the foil lid
00:42:24and here you go!
00:42:28Diamond slits
00:42:29on backpacks
00:42:30were originally placed
00:42:31only on traveler bags.
00:42:33Their purpose
00:42:34was to carry ropes.
00:42:36These days,
00:42:37you can find such slits
00:42:39on almost every backpack.
00:42:40Why not use them
00:42:41to carry a bottle of water,
00:42:43an umbrella
00:42:44or a pair of sneakers?
00:42:47Highlighters
00:42:48are filled
00:42:48with a special
00:42:49semi-transparent
00:42:50fluorescent ink
00:42:51that can glow
00:42:52in dim light.
00:42:54Yellow and light green hues
00:42:56are the most popular
00:42:57because they don't
00:42:58prevent you
00:42:59from seeing the text
00:43:00after black and white
00:43:01photocopying.
00:43:03Photocopiers
00:43:04perceive yellow
00:43:05and light green marks
00:43:06as almost non-existent
00:43:08and don't print them.
00:43:11A stop sign
00:43:12has an octagonal shape
00:43:13to help drivers
00:43:14recognize it easily
00:43:15even if they see it
00:43:17from the back.
00:43:17When the signs
00:43:18weren't reflective yet,
00:43:20this shape
00:43:21prevented drivers
00:43:22from confusing
00:43:22the stop sign
00:43:23with any other
00:43:24at night.
00:43:26The number 57
00:43:27on a Heinz ketchup bottle
00:43:29has nothing to do
00:43:30with the product label.
00:43:32The truth is
00:43:33that the place
00:43:34with the numbers
00:43:35is the very sweet spot
00:43:36you should tap
00:43:37to get the ketchup flowing.
00:43:39So, stop hitting
00:43:41the bottom
00:43:41of your sauce bottle
00:43:42and hit 57.
00:43:45Lots of private houses
00:43:47have triangular-shaped roofs
00:43:49because this allows rain,
00:43:51snow,
00:43:51and fallen leaves
00:43:52to slide off the slope.
00:43:54If all this stuff
00:43:56piled up on top
00:43:57of your house,
00:43:58one day,
00:43:59your roof would collapse.
00:44:02Airplane windows
00:44:03have rounded edges
00:44:04and that's a crucial
00:44:05safety measure.
00:44:07It prevents
00:44:07aircraft accidents.
00:44:09Weak spots
00:44:10are usually situated
00:44:11in the corners.
00:44:13If airplane windows
00:44:14were square
00:44:15or rectangular,
00:44:16each of them
00:44:17would have
00:44:17four potential weak spots.
00:44:19Under pressure,
00:44:20they would collapse.
00:44:24Here's how you can
00:44:25protect your bank card
00:44:26from potential fraudsters.
00:44:28Use a marker
00:44:28and cover the last four digits.
00:44:30You can also use
00:44:31a sticker that's easy
00:44:32to remove
00:44:33and place it
00:44:34over the security code.
00:44:36Have you had a houseguest
00:44:37that didn't use a coaster?
00:44:38Get a hairdryer
00:44:39and hold it a couple
00:44:40of inches away
00:44:41from the stain.
00:44:42Blow it on medium heat
00:44:43for a couple of minutes
00:44:44to evaporate the watermark.
00:44:46If a faded ring remains,
00:44:48mix equal amounts
00:44:49of vinegar and olive oil
00:44:50in a bowl.
00:44:51Wipe it onto the marked area
00:44:52and rub it in
00:44:53until the stain disappears.
00:44:54Then wipe it off.
00:44:55Don't waste time
00:44:57scrubbing the burnt stains
00:44:58off the bottom of a pan.
00:45:00Instead,
00:45:00fill it with water
00:45:01and add three tablespoons
00:45:03of salt.
00:45:03Let it sit overnight
00:45:05as the salt dissolves
00:45:06the burnt marks.
00:45:07And in the morning,
00:45:08pour the water
00:45:08out of the pan.
00:45:09This way,
00:45:10it will be much easier
00:45:11to scrub all that grease off.
00:45:13Picture this.
00:45:14You're on vacation
00:45:15and your shirt
00:45:16has become all crinkled
00:45:17inside the luggage.
00:45:18You need it tonight,
00:45:19but the hotel
00:45:20doesn't have an iron.
00:45:21Don't panic.
00:45:22Hang the shirt up
00:45:23in the bathroom
00:45:24and while you relax
00:45:25in a hot shower,
00:45:26the heat and moisture
00:45:27will unwrinkle your shirt.
00:45:28It won't be perfect,
00:45:30but it will get much better
00:45:31without any effort.
00:45:32The football is on
00:45:33and it turns out
00:45:34you've run out
00:45:35of standard batteries.
00:45:36You can use
00:45:37a smaller battery instead
00:45:38that easily fits inside.
00:45:40Now take some aluminum foil
00:45:42and crunch it up.
00:45:43Fit it into the gap
00:45:44on the negative
00:45:45or flat end of the battery.
00:45:47All done.
00:45:48You can turn on the TV now.
00:45:50Once your flip-flops crack
00:45:51and the plug easily slips
00:45:53out of the hole,
00:45:53it's normally a sign
00:45:55that you need a new pair,
00:45:56but there's a way
00:45:57to extend their mileage.
00:45:58Push the plug
00:45:59back through the hole,
00:46:00then take a bread clip
00:46:01and attach it to the end.
00:46:03The clip will provide
00:46:04enough support
00:46:05for the plug
00:46:06to remain in place.
00:46:07You've received a package
00:46:09and the receipt is taped on.
00:46:10You've managed
00:46:11to detach it from the box,
00:46:12but how to separate the tape
00:46:14without ripping the paper?
00:46:16Hold both ends
00:46:17of the tape apart
00:46:17and by pulling it slowly,
00:46:19the tape stretches
00:46:20and separates itself
00:46:22from the paper
00:46:22without tearing it apart.
00:46:25Ziploc bags are perfect
00:46:27to keep things dry,
00:46:28but it would be great
00:46:29if they were larger.
00:46:30Take two
00:46:31and turn one of them
00:46:32inside out.
00:46:33They can now connect
00:46:34and work as one large bag,
00:46:36big enough
00:46:37to protect a keyboard.
00:46:38There's no need
00:46:39to carry your keys
00:46:40in your hand
00:46:41when you go for a job.
00:46:42Instead,
00:46:43put them inside your pocket,
00:46:45take a rubber band,
00:46:46then tie it around
00:46:46the pocket from the inside.
00:46:48This stops the keys
00:46:49from falling out.
00:46:51You've broken your key
00:46:52in the door.
00:46:53It's stuck.
00:46:54Great!
00:46:55Arranging for a locksmith
00:46:56could cost up to $100,
00:46:58but for a cheaper
00:46:59and quicker option,
00:47:00try using a hot glue stick.
00:47:02Heat the end
00:47:03with a lighter
00:47:03and once it's warm enough
00:47:04to melt,
00:47:05push the glue
00:47:06into the keyhole.
00:47:07The melted glue
00:47:08will enter the available space
00:47:10covering part of the key.
00:47:12Once it cools,
00:47:13it compresses
00:47:14and gains a strong hold
00:47:15of the key's end.
00:47:16Now,
00:47:17just pull it out.
00:47:19If you need to siphon liquid
00:47:21through a hose
00:47:21and want to avoid
00:47:22using your mouth,
00:47:23put one end in the liquid
00:47:24and hold the other upwards
00:47:26with your thumb
00:47:27closing the top.
00:47:28Now shake up and down.
00:47:29This jiggle motion
00:47:30pushes liquid upwards
00:47:31a little each time.
00:47:33And once it reaches the top,
00:47:35lower the exit point
00:47:36and let gravity do the rest.
00:47:38You've left your keys
00:47:40locked inside the car.
00:47:41It's an older model
00:47:42with a roll-down window.
00:47:43You could get the coat hanger
00:47:45and begin the long process
00:47:46of finding the lock.
00:47:47Or use duct tape.
00:47:49Make about 20
00:47:502-foot-long strands.
00:47:51Stick them onto the window,
00:47:53allowing enough room
00:47:54for the tape
00:47:55to grab onto
00:47:55at the bottom.
00:47:56Then with a friend,
00:47:57take the ends of the tape,
00:47:58holding them together,
00:48:00and pull downwards.
00:48:01The force will allow
00:48:02the window to lower enough
00:48:03that you can unlock the door.
00:48:06While drilling long screws
00:48:07into hardwood,
00:48:08your old drill
00:48:09might not have enough power,
00:48:10leaving them
00:48:11only halfway in.
00:48:13Before the drill gives up,
00:48:14get a block of wax
00:48:15and scrape the edges
00:48:16of the screws with it.
00:48:17The wax works like a lubricant,
00:48:19melting as it gets warm
00:48:21and providing easy entry
00:48:22for the screw.
00:48:24You're out camping,
00:48:25but you didn't bring anything
00:48:26to light the barbecue.
00:48:28Take a small plastic bag
00:48:29that won't leak,
00:48:30fill it up with water,
00:48:31and close it tight,
00:48:32making a round bubble.
00:48:34Hold it over where you want
00:48:35to catch the light
00:48:36from the sun.
00:48:37The bag of water
00:48:38will work like a magnifying glass,
00:48:40starting up the barbecue,
00:48:41just as long as it's a sunny day.
00:48:44Missing a corkscrew
00:48:45or a cork breaking halfway?
00:48:47By using a stove lighter,
00:48:49heat the top of the bottle.
00:48:50The heat slightly expands the glass,
00:48:52and this forces the cork
00:48:53out the top.
00:48:55You've superglued
00:48:56your fingers again.
00:48:57Take some salt
00:48:58and pour it on top
00:48:59of your stuck fingers.
00:49:00Put your fingers into the water
00:49:02and slowly rub.
00:49:03The mixture will dissolve the glue
00:49:05and release you in no time.
00:49:07While hanging up a painting,
00:49:09it can be impossible
00:49:10to find that stubborn nail.
00:49:12Place a fork upside down,
00:49:13and insert it
00:49:14so the nail is in between
00:49:15the middle fork teeth.
00:49:17The fork has provided
00:49:18a long arm
00:49:19that's separated from the wall,
00:49:21making it easier
00:49:22to slip the string
00:49:23of the painting over the nail.
00:49:24Once it's perfectly balanced,
00:49:26simply remove the fork.
00:49:30You need to put a cake
00:49:31into a container,
00:49:32but taking it out again later
00:49:34by lifting it up
00:49:35from the inside
00:49:35might ruin the cake.
00:49:37Put the lid upside down,
00:49:38and place the cake
00:49:39on the lid.
00:49:40The base of the container
00:49:41is now the lid,
00:49:43making it much easier
00:49:44to access,
00:49:45slice by slice.
00:49:48Pour out water
00:49:49more efficiently
00:49:49from large jugs
00:49:50and bottles
00:49:51by swirling.
00:49:52This will make the liquid
00:49:53inside spin,
00:49:54creating a vortex.
00:49:56The vortex allows
00:49:57for the air
00:49:57to flow back
00:49:58into the bottle
00:49:59as the water pours out,
00:50:00much faster
00:50:02than the glugging alternative.
00:50:05There's an easier
00:50:06and less messy way
00:50:07to remove eggshells
00:50:08from a boiled egg.
00:50:09Once fully boiled,
00:50:11crack the shell
00:50:11on both ends
00:50:12by tapping them.
00:50:13On one end,
00:50:14pinch off the shell.
00:50:15Use the opened end
00:50:16to blow with your mouth.
00:50:17The force of air
00:50:18will push the flesh
00:50:19and expand the eggshell,
00:50:21forcing out the egg
00:50:22undamaged.
00:50:25When the hinges
00:50:26of your laptop break,
00:50:27repairing them
00:50:28can cost up to $300.
00:50:30A far cheaper fix
00:50:32is to buy a picture frame
00:50:33and tape it
00:50:34to the back of the screen.
00:50:36You've dropped
00:50:37a small piece of jewelry
00:50:38on the floor,
00:50:39seemingly impossible to find.
00:50:41Take a stocking
00:50:42and place it
00:50:42over the end
00:50:43of the vacuum hose.
00:50:44Give the area
00:50:45a good vacuum
00:50:45and check the end
00:50:46periodically.
00:50:47You will eventually
00:50:48find it sitting
00:50:49at the end.
00:50:50You've drilled
00:50:51a hole in the wall,
00:50:52but the drill hole
00:50:53is now too wide.
00:50:55Remove the screw
00:50:55and find an object
00:50:57that is slightly shorter
00:50:58and thinner.
00:50:59Pieces of plastic,
00:51:00small wires,
00:51:01paper clips,
00:51:02or even toothpicks
00:51:03are perfect.
00:51:03Place whichever item
00:51:05you find inside the hole.
00:51:06It's filled the gap enough
00:51:07so the screw
00:51:08will now re-enter securely.
00:51:10Taking the trash out
00:51:12can put you
00:51:12in a gross scenario
00:51:13of getting bin juice
00:51:14on you.
00:51:15A great way
00:51:16to avoid this
00:51:16is by placing
00:51:17old papers
00:51:18at the bottom
00:51:18of the bag.
00:51:19Now,
00:51:20not only does it
00:51:21absorb all the liquids
00:51:22from the food
00:51:23and other sources,
00:51:24but also helps prevent
00:51:25bad smells
00:51:26from forming
00:51:27within a bin.
00:51:28Nobody likes mosquitoes,
00:51:30and pesticides
00:51:30are pricey.
00:51:32A cheap alternative
00:51:33is to take
00:51:33a plastic bottle
00:51:34and cut the top part
00:51:36off from the bottom
00:51:37of the funnel.
00:51:38After removing it,
00:51:39turn it upside down
00:51:40and put it inside
00:51:41the bottle.
00:51:41Mix two cups
00:51:42of warm water
00:51:43with two tablespoons
00:51:44of sugar.
00:51:45The mosquitoes
00:51:46will be attracted
00:51:47to the formula
00:51:48inside and become trapped.
00:51:50Now just sit back
00:51:51and relax
00:51:52without getting bitten.
00:51:55pockets are usually
00:51:56on the left side
00:51:57of shirts
00:51:58because most people
00:51:58are right-handed.
00:52:00Is this a myth
00:52:00or a fact?
00:52:02This is actually true.
00:52:04Many products
00:52:05favor the righties.
00:52:06Left-handed people
00:52:07will relate to this
00:52:07on so many levels.
00:52:09Let's say,
00:52:10public transport.
00:52:11Have you ever noticed
00:52:13that the scanner
00:52:13at stations
00:52:14is typically
00:52:15on the right side?
00:52:16Household equipment
00:52:17and devices
00:52:18are one more example.
00:52:19Scissors,
00:52:20tweezers,
00:52:21bottle openers
00:52:21and many other
00:52:22kitchen and household
00:52:23appliances
00:52:23are designed
00:52:25with right-handed
00:52:25people in mind.
00:52:27The same goes
00:52:28for shirt pockets.
00:52:30While some people
00:52:30use both hands equally
00:52:31and others change
00:52:32their hand preference
00:52:33between tasks,
00:52:34overall,
00:52:35most people
00:52:35are right-handed.
00:52:37A study has revealed
00:52:39that 75%
00:52:40to 90%
00:52:41of the world's population
00:52:42are right-handed
00:52:43and 10%
00:52:44are left-handed.
00:52:45This means
00:52:46it's more convenient
00:52:47for most people
00:52:47to have pockets
00:52:48on the left side
00:52:49than on the right side
00:52:50of their garments.
00:52:52Try it out for yourself.
00:52:53Your elbow kind of folds
00:52:55when you try to reach
00:52:55into the pocket
00:52:56on the right side.
00:52:58Whereas on the left side,
00:52:59your elbow makes
00:53:00an arc shape,
00:53:01which makes it easier
00:53:02to put things
00:53:02inside the pocket
00:53:03and take them out.
00:53:06Eating more protein
00:53:07leads to having
00:53:08bigger muscles.
00:53:08What do you think
00:53:09about this,
00:53:10bodybuilders?
00:53:11Myth or fact?
00:53:13This is a myth.
00:53:15It's true
00:53:15that eating protein
00:53:16is essential
00:53:17for building
00:53:17bigger muscles.
00:53:18I mean,
00:53:19proteins are building
00:53:20blocks of your body.
00:53:21And yet,
00:53:22eating more than you need
00:53:23is unnecessary.
00:53:26Everyone should drink
00:53:26eight glasses of water
00:53:27a day.
00:53:28Do you think
00:53:29this is a myth
00:53:29or a fact?
00:53:32This is a myth,
00:53:33so don't blame yourself
00:53:34for drinking
00:53:34less water
00:53:35than recommended.
00:53:36Eight glasses
00:53:37are not a magic number.
00:53:39Hydration needs
00:53:40differ from one person
00:53:41to another.
00:53:42How much water
00:53:43you should drink
00:53:44every day
00:53:45depends on your activity
00:53:46and exercise level.
00:53:47The temperature
00:53:48of the place
00:53:49where you live
00:53:49affects this number too.
00:53:50If you live
00:53:51in a hot area,
00:53:52you sweat more
00:53:53and need to drink
00:53:53more water.
00:53:55Soup,
00:53:55coffee,
00:53:56tea,
00:53:57fruits,
00:53:57and other things
00:53:58you eat daily
00:53:59also contain water.
00:54:02Carrots are high
00:54:03in sugar,
00:54:03so you should
00:54:04avoid eating them.
00:54:05If this is true,
00:54:06we should warn bunnies.
00:54:08Any guesses,
00:54:09fact,
00:54:09or myth?
00:54:10It's a myth.
00:54:12Carrots are about
00:54:1385% water.
00:54:14One pound of cooked carrots
00:54:16only contains
00:54:17three teaspoons of sugar.
00:54:18Compared to the amount
00:54:19of sugar in desserts,
00:54:21this is nothing.
00:54:22Plus,
00:54:23carrots are high
00:54:24in phytochemicals
00:54:25and eating them
00:54:26can help lower blood sugar.
00:54:29Medieval people
00:54:29believed in flat earth.
00:54:31Is this a myth
00:54:32or a fact?
00:54:34Obviously,
00:54:34flat earth is a myth.
00:54:36But so is the history
00:54:37built around this myth.
00:54:38You can't say that
00:54:40at those times.
00:54:41The whole world
00:54:41was skeptical
00:54:42about earth's
00:54:43spherical shape.
00:54:44Even everyday
00:54:45visible things
00:54:46proved that.
00:54:47For example,
00:54:48medieval people
00:54:48could see that
00:54:49the twilight glow
00:54:50during sunrise
00:54:51and sunset
00:54:52formed an arc
00:54:53over the horizon.
00:54:56Vikings wore
00:54:57horned helmets.
00:54:58Is this a myth
00:54:59or fact?
00:55:00The well-known image
00:55:02of a Viking warrior
00:55:03is almost always
00:55:04completed with
00:55:05a horned helmet.
00:55:06But in reality,
00:55:07there were no horns.
00:55:09There's no evidence
00:55:10that Viking helmets
00:55:11were horned.
00:55:14Detox juices
00:55:15cleanse your body.
00:55:16Is this a fact
00:55:16or a myth?
00:55:18It's a myth.
00:55:20Detoxification
00:55:20doesn't work that way.
00:55:22Your internal organs
00:55:23are responsible
00:55:23for the process
00:55:24of cleansing
00:55:25the spleen,
00:55:26liver,
00:55:27kidneys,
00:55:27especially the liver.
00:55:29Your body
00:55:30is always in a natural
00:55:32state of cleansing itself.
00:55:33A person doesn't need
00:55:34to drink juices
00:55:35for detoxification.
00:55:38Nuts are junk food.
00:55:40Any thoughts?
00:55:41Myth or fact?
00:55:43You're right.
00:55:44This is a myth.
00:55:46Nuts are full
00:55:47of healthy fats.
00:55:48They're good
00:55:49for your heart
00:55:49and other organs.
00:55:52The average American
00:55:53throws away
00:55:54about 82 pounds
00:55:55of textile waste
00:55:56per year.
00:55:57Is this a fact
00:55:58or myth?
00:56:00Fact!
00:56:01Imagine all that waste!
00:56:03When someone
00:56:03throws their clothes away,
00:56:05they don't disappear
00:56:06into thin air.
00:56:07These items
00:56:08most likely reach
00:56:08landfills
00:56:09as their final destination.
00:56:11Donating clothes
00:56:12and selling them
00:56:13in second-hand stores
00:56:14are a much better option.
00:56:16Now,
00:56:17you've probably heard
00:56:18about life-saving
00:56:19laundry tricks
00:56:20that are said
00:56:20to make your clothes
00:56:21super clean
00:56:22and as good as they were
00:56:23on day one.
00:56:25What if those laundry tips
00:56:26are actually myths?
00:56:28I got three of them
00:56:29lined up for you.
00:56:31Shirts should be buttoned
00:56:32when you put them
00:56:33in the laundry.
00:56:34Is it true
00:56:34or not?
00:56:36This is a myth.
00:56:37You'd better keep
00:56:38zippers closed
00:56:38to keep their teeth
00:56:39from catching the fabric
00:56:40of other clothes.
00:56:42But fastening the buttons
00:56:43of a shirt
00:56:44can expand the button net
00:56:45and the button hole.
00:56:46In the long term,
00:56:48buttons will start
00:56:48slipping out of place.
00:56:51Washing clothes
00:56:52in hot water
00:56:53is the most effective
00:56:54way to clean them.
00:56:55Is this a myth
00:56:56or a fact?
00:56:57That's another laundry myth.
00:56:59You want to rid
00:57:00your clothes of germs
00:57:01yet hot water alone
00:57:03won't be enough
00:57:04for this.
00:57:05Nowadays,
00:57:06many detergents
00:57:06can clean clothes
00:57:07in cold or warm water.
00:57:10You should remove stains
00:57:11from the face
00:57:12of the fabric.
00:57:13Is it true?
00:57:15Most people apply
00:57:16water and soap
00:57:17to the stain
00:57:18starting from the front
00:57:19side of the fabric
00:57:20but that's not
00:57:21the best option.
00:57:22A much better way
00:57:23is to start
00:57:24from the back.
00:57:24The stain can go deeper
00:57:26if you treat it
00:57:26from the front.
00:57:27Try to make the stain
00:57:28move up to the surface
00:57:30rather than push it inside.
00:57:33Listening to music
00:57:34is an effective tool
00:57:36for learning languages.
00:57:37Is it a myth
00:57:38or fact?
00:57:39It's a fact.
00:57:41Scientists say
00:57:42listening to a song
00:57:43and humming along
00:57:44can help you
00:57:45learn a language.
00:57:46Most people struggle
00:57:47to learn grammar
00:57:48yet in our daily lives
00:57:49we don't always
00:57:50follow grammar rules.
00:57:52Songs can help you
00:57:53pick up informal expressions.
00:57:56Scientists have also
00:57:57concluded that music
00:57:58can help you
00:57:59remember new words
00:58:00and add them
00:58:00to your vocabulary.
00:58:02Let me give you
00:58:03an example.
00:58:04It's from your first
00:58:04year at school.
00:58:06Yep,
00:58:06the alphabet song.
00:58:09Are you a morning person
00:58:10or a night owl?
00:58:11Either way,
00:58:12you might want to know
00:58:13these facts
00:58:13and myths about sleep.
00:58:16The longest someone
00:58:18went without sleep
00:58:18was 11 days.
00:58:20Do you think
00:58:21this is possible
00:58:21or is it an urban legend?
00:58:24This is a fact.
00:58:26Randy Gardner
00:58:27set the record
00:58:28for the longest amount
00:58:29of time a person
00:58:30went without sleep.
00:58:31It was an experiment
00:58:32carried out
00:58:33by Stanford sleep researcher
00:58:34Dr. William C. Demand.
00:58:36The doctor recorded
00:58:38and monitored
00:58:39Randy Gardner's
00:58:40sleep activity.
00:58:41Gardner managed
00:58:41to stay awake
00:58:42for 11 days
00:58:43and 25 minutes.
00:58:46Your body
00:58:47eventually gets used
00:58:48to getting less sleep.
00:58:49Myth or fact?
00:58:51It's a myth.
00:58:52There are many studies
00:58:54proving that your body
00:58:55and especially your brain
00:58:56can't get used
00:58:57to sleeping less.
00:58:59Have you noticed
00:58:59that after a few nights
00:59:00of insufficient sleep
00:59:01you begin to feel
00:59:02groggier during the day?
00:59:04That's your body
00:59:05trying to adjust
00:59:06to not getting enough rest.
00:59:08Long-term sleep deprivation
00:59:09affects your daytime performance,
00:59:11focus,
00:59:12and decision-making.
00:59:14Many grown-ups
00:59:15need five or fewer
00:59:17hours of sleep.
00:59:18Can it be true?
00:59:19Well, this one's easy.
00:59:21It's a myth.
00:59:22Experts from
00:59:23the National Sleep Foundation
00:59:24recommend that
00:59:25the average adult
00:59:26sleeps 7 to 9 hours
00:59:28per night.
00:59:29Some people
00:59:30have a genetic mutation
00:59:31thanks to which
00:59:32they wake up refreshed
00:59:33after a short night's sleep,
00:59:34but such people
00:59:35are an exception.
00:59:36One in 4 million.
00:59:39The ability
00:59:40to fall asleep
00:59:41in any place
00:59:42and at any time
00:59:43means you're
00:59:44a good sleeper.
00:59:45What do you think?
00:59:46Myth or fact?
00:59:48It's a myth.
00:59:49A good sleeper
00:59:50gets a proper amount
00:59:51of sleep
00:59:51and has a regular
00:59:52sleep schedule.
00:59:55Cats
00:59:55spend two-thirds
00:59:56of their life
00:59:57asleep.
00:59:58Do you believe that?
00:59:59This will probably
01:00:00come as no surprise.
01:00:02It's a fact.
01:00:03How many of the facts
01:00:04and myths
01:00:05did you guess correctly?
01:00:08Did you know
01:00:09that you can
01:00:09actually inflate
01:00:10a balloon
01:00:11without using
01:00:12your lungs?
01:00:13All you need
01:00:14is a plastic bottle,
01:00:15vinegar,
01:00:16baking soda,
01:00:17a funnel,
01:00:18a rubber band,
01:00:19and a balloon,
01:00:20of course.
01:00:22First,
01:00:22pull some baking soda
01:00:23into the balloon
01:00:24using your funnel.
01:00:26And now,
01:00:27pour the vinegar
01:00:28into the bottle.
01:00:29You don't need a lot.
01:00:31Just fill about
01:00:32a third of the bottle.
01:00:34Let's go ahead
01:00:34and put the balloon
01:00:35over the bottle.
01:00:37But don't tip the soda
01:00:38inside the vinegar yet.
01:00:40Secure the balloon
01:00:41with a rubber band
01:00:42and tip it over
01:00:43to make the soda
01:00:44fall into the vinegar.
01:00:46And now,
01:00:46you can step back
01:00:47and enjoy the show.
01:00:49When the baking soda
01:00:50and the vinegar
01:00:51are mixed together,
01:00:52they release CO2
01:00:53that will inflate
01:00:54the balloon.
01:00:56You can use
01:00:57the inflated balloon
01:00:58to show your friends
01:00:59another trick.
01:01:00Grab a comb
01:01:01and rub it
01:01:02on the surface
01:01:02of the balloon.
01:01:04Now,
01:01:04you can bend
01:01:05the water flow
01:01:05in your sink
01:01:06with static electricity
01:01:07using your brand new
01:01:09electrified comb.
01:01:10Just don't try
01:01:11brushing your hair.
01:01:13Can you really
01:01:15pierce a balloon
01:01:15without popping it?
01:01:17The answer
01:01:17is yes.
01:01:19You're going to need
01:01:20a skewer
01:01:21or a long needle,
01:01:22a balloon,
01:01:23petroleum jelly,
01:01:24and some courage.
01:01:25Scratch the balloon
01:01:26with your fingers
01:01:27and make it
01:01:28more flexible.
01:01:29Now,
01:01:30blow steadily
01:01:30into the balloon.
01:01:32Stop before blowing
01:01:33it to the full size.
01:01:35This will make the trick
01:01:36easier to perform.
01:01:37Put some petroleum jelly
01:01:38on the needle.
01:01:40Now,
01:01:40find this darker area
01:01:42near the knot
01:01:42where the balloon
01:01:43is less stretched
01:01:44and just pierce it
01:01:46all the way through
01:01:46the top
01:01:47like this.
01:01:49Balloons are made up
01:01:50of polymer chains.
01:01:51They're so tiny
01:01:52that they seem invisible
01:01:53to the human eye.
01:01:54This trick works
01:01:55because the polymer chains
01:01:57are less stretched
01:01:58on the neck of the balloon.
01:02:00It was enough room
01:02:01to allow the needle
01:02:02in between the chains
01:02:03without breaking them.
01:02:04But if you try
01:02:05the same technique
01:02:06on the sides
01:02:07of the balloon,
01:02:08it will definitely pop.
01:02:10By the way,
01:02:12hairspray actually helps
01:02:13keep the air
01:02:14in the balloon longer
01:02:15by sealing the surface.
01:02:16But if you apply
01:02:18hairspray
01:02:18on the outside
01:02:19of the balloon
01:02:20and then touch it
01:02:21when it's not yet dry,
01:02:22the balloon will shrivel.
01:02:24Isn't it magic?
01:02:27Beware!
01:02:28Our next trick
01:02:29can make you
01:02:29question gravity.
01:02:31Pour some plain water
01:02:32into a glass bottle.
01:02:34Not much,
01:02:35about a quarter.
01:02:36Put the bottle
01:02:37in the microwave
01:02:38for a minute.
01:02:39Meanwhile,
01:02:40prepare a bowl
01:02:41with colored water
01:02:42to make the trick
01:02:43more visual.
01:02:44Take the bottle
01:02:45out of the microwave,
01:02:46turn it upside down
01:02:47and pour it
01:02:48into the colored water.
01:02:50The bottle will soon
01:02:51begin to fill
01:02:52with water.
01:02:53Can you guess why?
01:02:55The air expands
01:02:56when it's heated.
01:02:57The bottle
01:02:58and the air
01:02:58began to cool down
01:03:00and the air contracted
01:03:01which caused
01:03:02the water to move.
01:03:05Not only wizards
01:03:06can make things disappear.
01:03:08Fill a plastic container
01:03:10or transparent glass
01:03:11with sunflower oil.
01:03:13Dip a glass rod
01:03:15inside the oil.
01:03:16Can you see it now?
01:03:18Oil and glass
01:03:19bend light the same way
01:03:21because they have
01:03:21almost equal
01:03:22refractive indexes.
01:03:24Therefore,
01:03:25it's impossible
01:03:25to see how the wand
01:03:27bends light
01:03:27inside the oil.
01:03:29To make this trick
01:03:30even more epic,
01:03:32pour equal parts
01:03:33of water and oil
01:03:34inside a glass
01:03:35and dip the glass rod
01:03:37inside it.
01:03:38You'll see it
01:03:39in the water,
01:03:40but it will disappear
01:03:41inside the oil.
01:03:43Have you seen
01:03:45this epic
01:03:45instant freezing trick?
01:03:47Here's how you can
01:03:48repeat it at home.
01:03:49grab a small plastic bottle
01:03:51of clean drinking water.
01:03:53Leave it for about
01:03:544 hours
01:03:55to bring it
01:03:55to room temperature
01:03:56and now
01:03:57put it into a freezer
01:03:59and wait for
01:03:59an hour and a half.
01:04:01After that,
01:04:02take it out
01:04:02very carefully.
01:04:04Try not to shake it
01:04:05at all.
01:04:06Now,
01:04:06hit the bottle strongly
01:04:08or shake it
01:04:09and see what happens.
01:04:11Not only is red cabbage
01:04:13rich in fiber
01:04:14and vitamins,
01:04:15but it's also
01:04:15pretty useful
01:04:16for homemade
01:04:17scientific experiments.
01:04:19Boil red cabbage
01:04:20in pure water
01:04:21and wait until
01:04:22the water gets colored.
01:04:24Red cabbage
01:04:25contains a chemical
01:04:26called anthocyanin.
01:04:28It changes color
01:04:30when it's mixed
01:04:30with an acid
01:04:31or a base.
01:04:32That's why
01:04:33if you mix your cabbage
01:04:34with water
01:04:34with different ingredients,
01:04:36you'll get
01:04:36different colors.
01:04:38Bases like soda
01:04:39will make it blue,
01:04:40but acids
01:04:41on the contrary
01:04:42will create
01:04:43reddish colors.
01:04:44You can prove it
01:04:45by adding some lemon juice
01:04:46to your cabbage water.
01:04:47The water
01:04:48will become pinkish
01:04:51and if you add vinegar,
01:04:53you'll get an even
01:04:53more vibrant pink color.
01:04:56If you have a juicer,
01:04:58you can try the same experiment
01:04:59with red cabbage juice.
01:05:01Initially,
01:05:02it will have
01:05:02a more vivid purple color,
01:05:04but under the influence
01:05:05of additional liquids,
01:05:07the color will change.
01:05:09Can you guess
01:05:10which color
01:05:10you'll end up with
01:05:11if you mix cabbage juice
01:05:12with bleach?
01:05:14It's almost transparent,
01:05:16but still has
01:05:16a greenish-yellow tinge.
01:05:19The next trick
01:05:20is very trendy
01:05:21among artists.
01:05:22Here's what you're
01:05:23going to need.
01:05:24Liquid soap,
01:05:25cotton buds,
01:05:26milk,
01:05:26and acrylic paints.
01:05:28You can use food coloring
01:05:29for this tip.
01:05:31Pour a little bit of milk
01:05:32into a wide bowl
01:05:34or a plate.
01:05:35You don't need a lot.
01:05:36Then,
01:05:37put a few drops
01:05:37of paint
01:05:38into the milk
01:05:39and now dip
01:05:40a cotton bud
01:05:41covered with soap.
01:05:42The patterns
01:05:43will begin to change.
01:05:45That's because
01:05:45the fatty molecules
01:05:46in the milk
01:05:47get attracted
01:05:48to the molecules
01:05:49of soap.
01:05:50When you're satisfied
01:05:51with the pattern,
01:05:52you can put
01:05:53a sheet of paper
01:05:54on top of the milk
01:05:55and voila,
01:05:56your abstract masterpiece
01:05:57is ready.
01:05:59In fact,
01:06:00this technique
01:06:01is related
01:06:01to an ancient
01:06:02paper marbling
01:06:03called ebring.
01:06:05Artists created
01:06:06colorful patterns
01:06:07by sprinkling
01:06:08and brushing
01:06:08color pigments
01:06:09on a pan
01:06:09of oily water
01:06:11and then transformed
01:06:12those patterns
01:06:13on paper.
01:06:15Friction helps
01:06:16people walk
01:06:17on the road
01:06:17instead of sliding
01:06:18on it
01:06:19and it also allows
01:06:20us to perform
01:06:21this cool experiment
01:06:22called floating rice.
01:06:25Fill a small
01:06:26plastic bottle
01:06:27with rice.
01:06:28You can use a funnel
01:06:29to make the task easier.
01:06:30Shake the rice
01:06:31for a while
01:06:32and now
01:06:33try to push
01:06:33a chopstick
01:06:34or a pencil
01:06:35inside the bottle.
01:06:36If you did
01:06:37everything right,
01:06:38the stick will get
01:06:39stuck in the rice.
01:06:40You can also try
01:06:41using different types
01:06:42of grains
01:06:43and see what happens.
01:06:45Have you ever tried
01:06:47to put an ice cube
01:06:48into oil?
01:06:49Well,
01:06:49you can try today.
01:06:51It will create
01:06:51these cute little drops
01:06:53that will fall
01:06:53into the bottom
01:06:54of the glass
01:06:55because they're
01:06:55heavier than oil.
01:06:59Here's an easy way
01:07:00to stick an ice cube
01:07:01to a string
01:07:02without any glue.
01:07:03Place an ice cube
01:07:05in water.
01:07:06Put a piece of string
01:07:07on top
01:07:07and sprinkle it
01:07:09with salt.
01:07:09You don't need much
01:07:10otherwise the ice
01:07:12will dissolve.
01:07:12A pinch is enough.
01:07:14Wait for one minute
01:07:16and then gently
01:07:17pull the string.
01:07:18And there you go.
01:07:19The ice has stuck
01:07:20to the string.
01:07:23For this experiment,
01:07:25you're going to need
01:07:25an empty,
01:07:26clean soda can.
01:07:27Turn on the kettle
01:07:28and wait until
01:07:29it begins to boil.
01:07:31Carefully hold the can
01:07:32over the kettle
01:07:33using kitchen tongs.
01:07:35It will help fill it
01:07:36with hot steam.
01:07:37When the can is full
01:07:39of steam,
01:07:39give it an ice bath.
01:07:41You can put it
01:07:42into a bowl
01:07:42with cold water
01:07:43and ice cubes.
01:07:45The can should
01:07:46wrinkle up right away.
01:07:47That's because
01:07:48the volume inside
01:07:49the can decreases,
01:07:51reducing its pressure
01:07:52and allowing the
01:07:53external pressure
01:07:54to crush the can.
01:07:56The next trick
01:07:57is also about
01:07:58air pressure.
01:07:59You're going to need
01:08:00a glass bottle,
01:08:01a small piece of paper,
01:08:02a lighter
01:08:03and a peeled,
01:08:04boiled egg.
01:08:05The diameter
01:08:06of the bottleneck
01:08:07should be less
01:08:08than the width
01:08:09of the egg
01:08:09and it's important
01:08:11to use glass
01:08:12because plastic
01:08:13can melt.
01:08:14Now carefully
01:08:15light the paper,
01:08:17let it burn
01:08:18a little bit
01:08:18and drop it
01:08:19inside the bottle.
01:08:20Put the egg
01:08:21on the neck
01:08:22of the bottle.
01:08:23It should begin
01:08:24to bounce
01:08:24and soon
01:08:25the pressure
01:08:26of air
01:08:27will push the egg
01:08:28into the bottle.
