00:00Two works, one published by the Alcaldía Barranquilla and one published by the Grupo Argus,
00:04have a intense debate about the environmental impact that they would have in the Ciénaga
00:09of Mallorquín, one of the most important ecosystems in the Atlantic,
00:12that is part of the Ramsar Ciénaga Grande de Santa Marta.
00:16Although the history of this Ciénaga is about to complete a decade of drastic degradation,
00:21in the last few years, the discussion was centered in an ecoparque that the local administration
00:26built in Mallorquín and in a city of 16.000 apartments that 10 constructors develop
00:33a little more than 500 meters from there.
00:35Since a couple of years, inhabitants of the sector, ambientalists and academics
00:40have caught the alarm for the impacts that the works would have in Mallorquín.
00:44In fact, a few days, the Minister of Ambiente, Susana Muhammad,
00:49gave us the results of a report that the Cartier adelanted to investigate about these impacts.
00:54Even though the document is not public and the Minister has denied it argumenting reasons of security,
00:59this newspaper knows the conclusions.
01:01The first thing to say is that the ecoparque Ciénaga of Mallorquín,
01:05impulsed from the period of Jaime Pumarejo, came out very bad.
01:09Four of the nine conclusions that presented the Minambiente
01:12are pointing to the impacts that this project, inaugurated in September of last,
01:17has generated in Mallorquín.
01:18Also to conclude that the Alcaldía did not adopt the management plan of the city Ramsar,
01:22the report says that they have done works that contradicen the objectives of the restoration
01:27of the ecosystem and that, in fact, they have accepted the affections that the Ciénaga
01:33already had.
01:34Pese a que the Minister of Ambiente se focused on the ecoparque,
01:37he also addressed the concerns that the urbanization is generating near Mallorquín.
01:41A little more than 500 meters from the Ciénaga, in the limits between Barranquilla and Puerto Colombia,
01:47the Group Argos and nine constructors more, avanzan in the construction of 16.000 apartments.
01:53One of the things that most preocupates this city, even the Procuraduría and the Ministry of
01:57Ambiente, is the treatment of the water waste.
02:00According to us, the water that is generated in the 16.000 apartments that are built
02:06will be in the river Magdalena without passing by a plant of treatment.
02:10Also, the Ministry also pointed out that the plans of the territorial planning of Barranquilla
02:16and Puerto Colombia have allowed the configuration of a high density model in that area, which
02:22would lead to the loss of adaptive capacity of the Ciénaga.
02:26If you want to know what are the actions that the Ministry of Ambiente did and what
02:30is doing to recover this important ecosystem of the Caribbean Caribbean, we invite you to visit
02:36the Ambiente section of The Espectador.
