A man has been remanded for seven days after allegedly beating his pregnant wife so severely that she lost her baby in Sungai Petani.

But what makes this case even more alarming - police have now confirmed he is the same man previously convicted in Johor for beating another wife into a coma.

00:09The Magistrates Court in Sungai Pitani approved the remand order on Wednesday to assist police investigations.
00:16The case is being investigated under Section 325 of the Penal Code for voluntarily causing grievous hurt.
00:22The victim, a 39-year-old civil servant, suffered serious injuries and miscarried her 12-week pregnancy.
00:28She is believed to have been struck repeatedly with multiple objects, including a clothes hanger, a rubber hose, a curtain
00:35rod and a broom handle.
00:37The suspect was arrested on Tuesday afternoon in Alorstar.
00:40Police have confirmed that the suspect is the same man previously convicted in Johor for beating his then-pregnant wife
00:46so badly she fell into a coma.
00:48In November last year, the Johor Bahru High Court upheld a 10-year jail sentence against Rosmini Abdul Raoaf for
00:55causing serious injuries to Jahida Nordin in 2021.
01:00However, a stay of execution pending a further appeal at the Court of Appeal was granted, with bail raised from
01:0615,000 to 25,000 ringgit.
01:09Rosmini had previously served 79 days in prison and was originally charged on June 17, 2021.
