00:04I love collecting furniture so most of the items are second-hand. You don't need a big budget to
00:14find pieces with design and personality. This is my home, my very first apartment purchase.
00:22It's a small space but that didn't stop me from embracing the challenge and unleashing my
00:39creativity. Together with the StudioDot, we transformed this compact space Kami needed to
00:46integrate all the functions of the home without dividing the spaces. My goal was to
00:53create a multifunctional area that includes everything. That's when the StudioDot proposed
00:59a single piece of furniture that would span the entire space, integrating all these functions.
01:08For me, living in such a small space was a completely new experience. I was worried I might feel confined,
01:16but it turned out to be quite the opposite. I have everything I need right here.
01:28Everything was in a very poor condition. The bolt was plastered over and the beams were coated with a glossy
01:35dark varnish.
01:36For me, it was a surprise when we took the plaster off and we found this amazing ceiling.
01:43In this case, we decided to restore the bolts and wooden beams to give the home its character.
01:49And it's part of the story of Spanish building.
01:55There was a small bathroom by the entrance and a kitchen with an L-shaped counter in the middle of
02:02the apartment.
02:03We kept the bathroom in its original location and decided to unify all the functions within a single space using
02:11a multifunctional oak wood furniture.
02:15I wanted a living and dining area near the balcony, as it's the only source of natural light.
02:22This layout also makes the bed area feel like a separate bedroom.
02:31Sands is a neighborhood with a strong identity being the oldest and largest in the district.
02:38It is a busy area in a typical old Catalan quarter.
02:43The building was constructed in 1930 in a modern style featuring wooden beams and the distinct art Catalan bolt.
02:52When you first enter the apartment, you are greeted by a beautiful red armor door.
02:59The door was changed before the renovation to add security.
03:04In Barcelona, you must copy the design and color of the original, but you can change the material.
03:12The bedroom can be separated from the rest of the apartment by a linen curtain.
03:19I purchased the fabric and made the curtains by myself.
03:27I chose a bed with a storage base.
03:33The headboard features a built-in shelf that clearly hides the original kitchen pipes.
03:42Now it serves as a place to display books and my projector.
03:49From the bed, there is a full-height wardrobe for all my clothes.
03:54Custom furniture allows us to maximize the storage within a small space and it is something that we like to
04:01do in all of our projects.
04:04In the kitchen, we decided not to install upper cabinets, choosing instead for a single shelf to showcase most of
04:12Camila's tableware.
04:15We chose a cooktop with an integrated extractor to keep the space above open and light.
04:22It works really well and it's really quiet, so it's not only for aesthetics.
04:28The splashback tiles are handcrafted from the Spanish brand Equip.
04:33I chose a light colored tile to allow my items to pop.
04:39Another key decision was to design a continuous furniture element that changes function as you move through the home.
04:46This natural oak piece adds warmth, synthesizes and unifies the space.
04:53Besides the wardrobe, there is more storage for the kitchen.
04:59We also integrate a fridge and the boiler above.
05:05I've always wanted a glass table and some Cheska chairs, so I found one to fit the space.
05:13The glass table allows you to see through it, so it creates a sense of lightness.
05:20It's important in a small apartment not to have furniture that visually blocks the space.
05:26For the dining table, I add a wood lamp with a swing arm that can be moved as needed.
05:35For me, it was a surprise when we took the plaster off and we found this amazing ceiling.
05:42And it's part of the story of Spanish building.
05:46To hide like the Catalan Vault, we added wall lights between the wooden beams.
05:54The centerpiece of the apartment is a Danish design sofa bed by Softline.
06:02At the end of the apartment, next to the sofa, I added a white Memphis lamp that creates a warm,
06:09cozy atmosphere when we gather on the sofa at night.
06:15We removed the original floating floor and replaced them with micro-cement.
06:20It creates a sense of calm and a more minimalist feel.
06:27It was important to have a comfortable space for Camila, but also have a space for guests when needed.
06:35As Argentinians, we are used to having family and friends staying in our homes.
06:41Facing the sofa, continuing the kitchen line, is my workspace with a large desk area.
06:47I place a kilter chair from the 1960s as a keypiece.
06:53It has wheels and when guests come over, it can be easily moved to provide extra seating by the sofa.
07:03The balcony offers stunning views of the National Art Museum of Catalonia.
07:10I have a table and two chairs, where I usually have a breakfast there.
07:22By the entrance, there is a bathroom, which due to the budget constraints, remains in its original state with only
07:30superficial updates.
07:31It is quite compact, but the windows help to bring in some natural light and fresh air.
07:38We moved the water heater to make the bathroom feel more spacious and luminous.
07:45My philosophy for small spaces is to have less but well thought out objects.
07:51They need to be both beautiful and functional.
07:56We believe in being environmentally friendly, which is why we think it's key to preserve the original materials in a
08:04project.
08:05We embrace the Japanese philosophy of finding beauty in imperfection and we like to see the natural wear of materials.
08:13As nothing is truly perfect or permanent.
08:29As nothing is truly perfect or permanent.
08:32There is one great!
08:35At the beach, I love this one.
08:36But when it is a food that I'm reallyary, I should not somos one of the versión of the examples
08:38of a palace.
08:38So let's keep in sight yeah is separate from site!
