00:00All right, let's get to this story here from the political angle, a soldier arrested for allegedly betting on the
00:05capture of Nicolas Maduro in Venezuela.
00:09How did ABC News get this story and how did this end up happening that they were able to find
00:15that this soldier ended up doing this?
00:17I mean, I guess that's the good news is that they were able to figure out that he did place
00:22this prediction.
00:24Yeah, this is a wild story and it's, you know, to equate it for the audience, it's more used to
00:28sports.
00:29This is a lot like, you know, trading on information in sports, right?
00:33If you had information about somebody being hurt and or if he knew something was going to happen, this is,
00:38you know, using information arguably illegally to bet on things.
00:42So, yeah, a soldier who was a part of the task of the special forces that went in and captured
00:48Nicolas Maduro, the president of Venezuela, actually allegedly bet on Maduro leaving, getting at being taken out of office at
00:56Polymarket.
00:57He bet, again, allegedly $33,000 and won $400,000.
01:03The Department of Justice brought charges against this soldier so he could face decades in jail if found guilty of
01:12all of this.
01:13But this is the wild world that we live in, you know, betting on war.
01:17This is, again, kind of international, not really what's in the regulated U.S. space with Polymarket's international site.
01:23But, you know, lots of chatter about this.
01:25This was like the main news story on last week when it happened on Capitol Hill and in mainstream news
01:32that this person, the soldier, was betting on this.
01:35And it brings up all sorts of second-order effects and questions about insider trading and all sorts of stuff.
01:41But, you know, this is, you know, we also, we saw back in the spring when this happened, when Maduro
01:47came out of office, that people were betting on it right before it happened.
01:50So, you know, not strange, but it's good and interesting that he got caught.
01:55You know, he's going to be, we're going to have a trial about this.
01:58But, yeah, it feels a bit like a fever tree.
02:01We're talking about soldiers trading on insider information to bet on what's happening in geopolitical events.
02:07It's hard to believe this is the world we live in, Craig.
