00:00Legendary actor William Shatner is showing no signs of slowing down from space travel
00:05to viral internet fame. He is now on a mission to inspire others to live longer, healthier
00:10lives. Joining him is the man behind the science, LifeWave CEO David Schmidt, whose longevity
00:16tech company is at the forefront of a fast-growing multi-billion dollar wellness movement. Tell
00:23us a bit about LifeWave and what makes your approach to wellness and longevity technology
00:27different from what else is out there right now. It's a good question. I started LifeWave
00:33more than 20 years ago now, and it's based on a product and technology that I invented
00:39that stimulates the body with very low levels of light. Technically, this is a process called
00:46photobiomodulation, but what it means is that we can use light to elevate production of specific
00:52peptides in the body. And this has very powerful anti-aging effects. So it's very different than
01:01a peptide. Very simple and straightforward for consumers and, of course, very, very safe.
01:09And for people who maybe didn't see the viral video online, William, Bill, you started working
01:14with LifeWave and took on the role of the world's oldest intern. So you played so many incredible
01:19parts in your long career. Tell us, why did you want to get involved with this project and with
01:24this company now? Well, it's a health company. I'm into health, as we all are, except most of us
01:34don't have enough knowledge. And we seek knowledge of how to be healthy. And this company is in the
01:42forefront. So I joined it for those reasons. But also, David Schmidt is a brilliant man, has many patents on
01:54many things. And so I joined him, really, to be part of his company. But we're talking now about
02:04a campaign that they've started, it's really innovative. And that is, they have built in
02:15in Salt Lake City, a design, a place where you can go and look at the various things that
02:27LifeWave has done. And they have filmed me in that place. What do we call it, David?
02:35What's it called the LifeWave Welcome Center? It's a futuristic look at the future center that people can go to,
02:41to see the magic of LifeWave. And we've made a film, calling it the world's oldest intern,
02:50as a means of acquainting you with fun that this company represents. So I was in a short film,
03:00the world's oldest intern, and it was very successful, got lots of people watching it.
03:06So in their wisdom, LifeWave decided to do two more films of the same ilk. And they've invited
03:14Jonathan Frakes and Jerry Ryan, two people who are well known in Star Trek. So the three of us
03:22are going to make two more of these films. And we're in effect casting two people from the audience
03:32in those films. So where do they go? Where do they sign up, David?
03:42Yeah, so they go to worldsoldestintern.com, and they can have a chance to win an all-expense-paid
03:48trip to Salt Lake City and be on set and get to perform with legendary icon William Shatner.
03:56Jerry Ryan. Repeat that again. Where do they go again to sign up?
04:03They go to worldsoldestintern.com.
04:07It's amazing. Yeah, it's amazing.
04:09And two people will be selected who have written an interesting pricey on why they should be in the
04:19film. And LifeWave will select two people, fly them to Salt Lake City, be in the film. Maybe if they're,
04:29if they can speak English, they have a few words to say. But they'll be with Jonathan Frakes and Jerry
04:39Ryan and myself in a film. And it's a kind of contest to get people to look into our website
04:49and see what
04:51LifeWave can do.
04:52Well, it's so exciting to think about what the company actually does, in addition to this film
04:56that did so well and the upcoming installments. So exciting to think about all of these different
05:01pieces coming together for this. So as you mentioned, Bill, that video was viewed millions of times.
05:07You're 95 now, right? So tell us what it feels like to still be commanding so much attention,
05:13reaching so many people at this time in your life.
05:17Oh, it feels good.
05:21I can imagine, I can imagine.
05:25It'll make you feel good.
05:29What do I do? I'm really healthy. I don't, other than an occasional beer and occasional belt of scotch,
05:45I don't drink, and I don't smoke. And I'm as athletic as I can be at my age. And so,
05:56in general,
05:57I'm just healthy. And I have a lot of love in my life. David loves me. As for longevity,
06:08good genes play a large part there as well.
06:12Yeah, it sounds like it's a great fit for you to be working together. David, tell us a little bit
06:17more
06:17about the science and the tech of LifeWave. What do you say to the skeptics out there who wonder how
06:23and if it actually works? And what do you say to the people who are already so excited about the
06:27company as well? Yeah, you know, light therapy has been around for thousands of years. And it's been
06:34within the last 20 to 25 years that we've been able to understand the biochemistry behind light
06:40therapy. So essentially, you stimulate the skin with light and it causes an increase in energy
06:46to the mitochondria. This happens through the electron transport chain. There's an enzyme.
06:52What's very easy to prove is that you take specific wavelengths of light, you stimulate the skin,
06:58and this causes an increase in the amount of cytochrome C oxidase. This is an enzyme and reacts to
07:08light. And what it will do is increase the amount of energy going through the electron transport chain
07:13and ultimately the mitochondria. So what we see when we do metabolic testing is that the amount of energy
07:20that the mitochondria is producing increases as a result of the use of our product. And with specific
07:27signaling, we can increase production of specific peptides like copper peptide, GHKCU, glutathione,
07:36carnosine, a variety of others. I have one very last question for you,
07:39gentlemen, who I very much appreciate having on today. Lastly, on a slightly unrelated note, Bill,
07:44I have to ask you, having been into space yourself at the time you were the oldest person to go
07:48into space,
07:49we just had this incredible Artemis II mission. Tell us a little bit about what you thought while you
07:54were looking at that mission and those astronauts flashback down to Earth.
07:57Well, I'll tell you as briefly as I can. When I was in space, I looked out the window forward.
08:05I saw
08:05blackness. I saw death. I looked behind me. I saw the beige of the Texas desert, the white clouds,
08:13the blue sky, and I saw life. And we are killing our planet with the poisons in the air, the
08:21water,
08:21and the Earth. We've got to stop. Or this question will be asked in a much slower, lower pace
08:30when, because we're all going to die before our time because of the pollution of our beautiful planet.
08:38We've got to stop. And that's what I saw. Well, thank you so much for those wonderful words.
08:44Thank you so much, actor William Shatner, Liferay's CEO, David Schmidt. We really appreciate your time
08:48today. Thank you, dear. Bye-bye. Thank you, Justine. Thank you.
