43:37But for those of you who don't know it, here's the short version.
43:43My parents were both junior hockey coaches, and they were hit by a drunk driver when I was 12 years
43:50old.
43:52Mercifully for them, they died instantly.
43:56Mercifully for me, the St. Thomas scholarships existed.
44:02I didn't have anybody else to help me, had a lot of memories, a love of hockey, and a huge
44:10hole in my heart.
44:13St. Thomas filled it with hope.
44:15St. Thomas filled it with hope, the hope of a new family.
44:18Things weren't always easy.
44:20You know, they never are for anybody, but in hockey, I found what I was missing.
44:28First at my high school, then later at college, and now here with the Admirals.
44:33And I never looked back, because I never had to.
44:39The family I craved, the family that I needed, that I still need today.
44:46Hockey gave it to me.
44:49And St. Thomas gave me hockey.
44:53So from the bottom of my heart, I want to thank you all for being here tonight, and for supporting
44:58this cause, because it's not just a scholarship, it's everything that comes with it.
