00:00The January 6th insurrection at the Capitol was a dark day in American history,
00:04resulting in the deaths of several people, including Capitol Police Officer Brian Sicknick.
00:10Now, just before the two-year anniversary of that day, Sandra Garza, Sicknick's partner,
00:14is filing a lawsuit against both the rioters responsible for assaulting the deceased officer
00:19and former President Trump, calling them directly and vicariously liable for her partner's death.
00:24According to the official filing, quote,
00:26as a direct result of the attack by Defendants Cater, Antanios, and others,
00:30which Defendant Trump instigated, Officer Sicknick suffered physical injuries.
00:34The following day, on January 7th, 2021, Officer Sicknick tragically died,
00:39with the filing adding that all of the actions which took place on January 6th,
00:43from Trump's violence-inciting speech to the chemical spray attack perpetrated on Sicknick
00:47and other officers by the two named assailants, all resulted in the death of the officer the next day.
00:52Garza is seeking $30 million in damages against the three,
00:57with the lawsuit adding that the violence that followed and the injuries that violence caused,
01:01including the injuries sustained by Officer Sicknick and his eventual death,
01:05were reasonable and foreseeable consequences of Defendant Trump's words and conduct.
01:10Trump has so far not been charged with any crimes related to January 6th,
01:14despite the House Select Committee recommending several.
