White House has responded after conspiracy theories erupted online claiming the recent shooting incident involving former U.S. President Donald Trump was “staged.”

During a press briefing, the Press Secretary reassured Americans that there is no higher priority than the President’s safety, emphasizing that security measures remain extremely tight. Officials also dismissed viral claims as baseless, urging the public to rely on verified facts instead of online speculation.

The controversy comes after a shooting scare at a high-profile Washington event triggered panic — and quickly fueled widespread misinformation across social media.

00:00is disinformation and misinformation online.
00:03There will be bite-sized clips that will go viral
00:07to the point where there are Americans in this country
00:09that believe that what happened Saturday night was staged.
00:13How does this White House tackle that
00:15with social media companies out there,
00:17whether it's X, Facebook, Instagram?
00:20How do they work with these companies
00:22to make sure that doesn't get out of control?
00:24It's certainly a good question, Aisha.
00:26I don't have tangible answers for you
00:28on what we're doing with social media companies,
00:30if anything at all.
00:31What I will say is it's very important to us
00:34that we get the truth and the facts about this case
00:37in any case out there as quickly as possible
00:39to dispel some of that crazy nonsense
00:42that you do see running rampant online.
00:45And I think the Department of Justice and the FBI thus far
00:48have done a good job of disseminating the truth
00:51and the facts about this alleged attempted assassin,
00:55the perpetrator in this case.
00:56And I understand he'll be arraigned in court very soon.
00:59You all see that.
00:59And the Department of Justice will be giving a briefing
01:02and an update later today.
01:04So as far as we're concerned,
01:05just providing maximum transparency
01:07and hopefully people will believe the truth
01:10rather than the lies and the conspiracies
01:12that so often do go crazy on social media.
01:15If you're a follow-up on just how the White House
01:17could be rethinking security protocols going forward,
01:20I mean, we all remember
01:21after the attempted assassination in Butler,
01:23there were indoor rallies that were held after that.
01:27Is that out of the question,
01:29changing any additional security protocols
01:31when it comes to how the president does these events
01:34that are outside of the White House?
01:36I definitely wouldn't say changes are out of the question.
01:38I think, again, that it's up to the White House here
01:41and we view it as a great responsibility
01:43to ensure the maximum safety of the president
01:45and the vice president and the entire cabinet.
01:48And so we're always looking for ways to improve security.
01:50I think if you just sit here and say
01:52everything is perfect all the time,
01:54that's not a good way to operate.
01:55And so the White House will continue to engage with DHS
01:58and with Secret Service
01:59to find ways to improve and strengthen security.
02:02But as far as Saturday night is concerned,
02:04the president was satisfied with the response
02:05and he's very grateful to the men and women
02:07who provided the response for him
02:09and his wife and members of his team.
02:11The president Saturday after the assassination attempt
02:14came here, he emphasized that law enforcement
02:16did their job keeping everyone safe for dinner,
02:19House Speaker Mike Johnson came out
02:21and said he believes the president needs greater protection.
02:23What is the White House's message
02:25to the millions of Americans who wake up here today
02:27nervous, uneasy about the safety of the president
02:31at events like this and safety of the cabinet members?
02:34Well, we certainly understand their fears and their worries.
02:37As you heard from the president himself,
02:39he continues to have trust
02:42in the United States Secret Service.
02:43As I just said, these are great men and women
02:46who are doing their jobs
02:47and performing their duties honorably.
02:50As we all witnessed on Saturday evening,
02:53within minutes, the president, the first lady,
02:56the vice president, members of the president's cabinet
02:58were ushered out of the room.
03:00The perpetrator who sought to inflict massive harm,
03:03as we all now know with the release of the manifesto
03:06on administration officials and the president himself,
03:09was stopped at the security parameter that was set up.
03:13He tried to charge through it, as you saw on video,
03:15and he was quickly neutralized by Secret Service.
03:18And thank God that he was.
03:19With that said, obviously,
03:21the White House is always asking the tough questions
03:23and ensuring the safety of the president.
03:26I understand there will be a meeting early this week
03:28convened by the White House Chief of Staff,
03:30Susie Wiles, with top DHS leadership,
03:33members of the United States Secret Service,
03:34and our own operations team here
03:36to ensure the safety and the security of the president,
03:39as we do have many of these major events moving forward.
03:42So we're always monitoring operations and procedures,
03:45always asking the tough questions
03:46to ensure the president is safe
03:48and the American people should be assured
03:50there's no higher priority for the president and his staff
03:53than the president's safety.
