00:01Honourable Vice President of India,
00:07Radhakrishnuji,
00:11Honourable Governor of Andhra Pradesh,
00:17Abdul Nazirji,
00:22Honourable CM of Andhra Pradesh,
00:29Kanra Baba Naiduji,
00:35Venkya Naiduji is also here,
00:39Dignitaries on the dais,
00:43Ladies and gentlemen, all my friends,
00:46brothers and sisters,
00:49Namastara.
00:54It's a special day and I am so happy to be here to be sharing these moments with you.
01:04My father came from a very, very humble background,
01:13had a challenging life because the pockets were not deep.
01:21We stayed in two rooms in a chawl which was a kitchen come bedroom and a living room come bedroom.
01:31And why I am saying this is because my father was extremely passionate about academics.
01:41He became a professor, he also was a poet and he continued to chase his dream.
01:53He did not have the best of facilities, but he made the best of what he had.
02:01So in those two rooms, he found a corner and stood first in BA and MA and won a gold
02:09medal.
02:13When, when I was growing up and I watched him,
02:19he was extremely gentle, extremely patient with me.
02:26So whatever mistakes I made as a child,
02:31I was convinced he explained to me and I got convinced it was never that he tried to correct me
02:39forcibly.
02:41And that created a huge positive impact on me.
02:46I learned so many things from him.
02:48He was extremely patient and why I say this?
02:51Because when I started playing for India, I bought my own car.
02:57I used to love to listen to good music.
03:00And most of the times it used to be loud music in the car while I would drive.
03:04And my father would be seated next to me reading his book.
03:09Never once did he tell me,
03:11that reduce the volume, I want to read the book.
03:15He was focused and the outside noise did not matter to him.
03:21And that's something that I learned from him.
03:24You know, being a good person,
03:27it's a practice that every morning you wake up and you remind yourself
03:32that you are going to behave in a particular way.
03:36Which is, I feel,
03:39kind of conveys how your parents have brought you up.
03:43And that is something which I will always carry for the rest of my life
03:48because that's the impression my father left with me.
03:52Awesome sir.
03:54Sachin sir, in both academics and sports,
03:58students today face immense pressure to perform.
04:03From your experience, how do you deal with this pressure?
04:11Pressure is on everyone at every level.
04:14You meet any individual in this room,
04:17we will have pressure.
04:19There are two types of pressures.
04:23One is external and one is internal pressure.
04:27External pressure is all about what the world is saying about you.
04:36I think in today's world,
04:39when social media is so active,
04:43people want to know what is being said about myself.
04:47Generally, you know, every individual is bothered about that.
04:53When I went out to bat, you have to learn how to use that to your advantage.
04:59When I went out to bat,
05:03I used to get reception like this,
05:06which was fantastic.
05:07Sometimes it was overwhelming.
05:10Sometimes I felt I was not in the frame of mind to start my innings.
05:16I just needed that break.
05:17I needed the crowd to settle down a bit.
05:20So those were the occasions where I would remove my shoelace
05:24or remove the strap of my leg guard
05:28or someone would be moving on top of the side screen.
05:30I would settle the crowd down,
05:33make sure that those 22 yards belong to me
05:37and then started my innings.
05:40It is like a ship sailing through water to get to its destination.
05:47But the moment there are holes in those ships
05:50and the water starts seeping in,
05:53the ship starts sinking.
05:55And that is exactly what I am trying to tell you,
05:57that external pressures will be there,
06:00you need to shut off.
06:02You need to stay focused on what you want to achieve in life.
06:07We come to internal pressure.
06:10Internal pressure is actively led by your conscious mind.
06:16When your conscious mind is moving ahead of the moment,
06:23it starts putting multiple scenarios in your head,
06:28which are imaginary.
06:32Failure, consequences, disappointments,
06:36and all these things,
06:39they kind of freeze you.
06:41They increase the pressure.
06:45The idea is to stay in that moment.
06:52When, when I went to bat,
06:55people talk about,
06:58you know, he was in that zone and that's why he batted well.
07:01And what is that zone?
07:03That zone is all about surrendering yourself
07:09to your subconscious mind,
07:12which knows what to do.
07:13It is always the conscious mind,
07:17as we call it,
07:18the monkey over your shoulder would be putting doubts in your head.
07:23And while batting also sometimes that would happen.
07:26Before the ball was delivered,
07:29the conscious mind would put doubts in your head.
07:31Could that be a bouncer?
07:33Could that be a yawker?
07:34Could that be an outsinger?
07:36Where the delivery was not released at all.
07:39So I found myself batting at my best
07:44when I had surrendered myself to the subconscious mind.
07:48So that would be my advice to all of you,
07:52to stay focused,
07:55stay aware of what's happening around you,
07:58but don't let the external energies dominate what you want to be in life.
08:03Absolutely.
08:05So one last one.
08:06On this centenary celebrations of Andhra University,
08:11your one message to all the students out there.
08:17We are celebrating a very, very big moment.
08:22The centenary of Andhra University.
08:30The magical figure that we talk about,
08:41happened with the contribution of many.
08:45Many.
08:49The teachers who taught for decades.
08:56And there are many illustrious people
09:02who have been able to shape our country,
09:07who have to give a new meaning to the youth of India,
09:12who have guided them.
09:16And all these things
09:18would never have happened
09:20without the guidance of all those teachers
09:24who imparted knowledge
09:29with a lot of humility and integrity.
09:34But those were the last hundred years.
09:41With impeccable reputation of the university,
09:45the responsibility lies on the next generation
09:48and generations to follow.
09:50How do you,
09:52with such impeccable reputation,
09:55please understand that the expectations are going to be high.
09:59And if the expectations are high,
10:02the responsibility automatically increases.
10:06I want to take this opportunity
10:08to wish you the very best of luck.
10:12Because I know my father being a professor,
10:14how committed he was
10:17and what gave him
10:20the most satisfaction
10:25when he got to hear
10:29good things about his students.
10:33I personally felt
10:36that was his greatest return gift.
10:40And so would be the teachers of this university.
10:46At the pace that the world is moving,
10:50there will be a lot of innovations,
10:54plenty of things would be expected of you
10:56in different spheres of life.
11:00My simple message to you,
11:02which I followed throughout my journey,
11:05was,
11:06we all want to be successful.
11:10Success never happens overnight.
11:14It takes time.
11:16We have to be patient
11:17and follow the right path.
11:20While doing so,
11:22while chasing your dream,
11:24don't cut corners
11:26and find shortcuts
11:28and compromise values.
11:32That is going to be
11:33extremely important
11:35for our country to move forward
11:38and for you to set examples
11:40for the next generation.
11:43I again want to thank you
11:45for having me here
11:47and giving me this opportunity
11:49to spend this wonderful moment
11:52which I will cherish
11:55in my life
11:57and the love
11:59and the affection
12:00that you have showered upon me
12:03will always stay in my heart.
12:06It is priceless for me.
12:08So, thank you very much.
