Cincinnati Bengals Discuss Fourth Round Pick Colbie Young
Transcript
00:00Excited about Colby Young, feel like he really complements our receiver group, really high opinion of him, did a lot
00:06of research on him, pitch went down there along with some of our other coaches. Feel good about the background
00:12work we've done on him. You know, Georgia returned him to play and felt really confident with his character. And
00:18so again, we've done a lot of research on him and really excited to add Colby to our mix as
00:24well.
00:24Yeah, because you looked at the different styles of receivers, were you specifically looking for that downfield explosive big play?
00:30He's a big body guy, you know, and so I have the feeling we can use him in a lot
00:33of different ways. And we're also able to move around the guys we have to play him inside, outside the
00:38way we use Jamar. So I think Colby's just an outstanding compliment. Fortunate to get him in the fourth round,
00:45you know, and so again, like pitch said, we obviously had a higher value on him than where we actually
00:50got him.
00:51And so I just think he's a great target for Joe, great catch radius, can use him a lot of
00:56different ways.
00:57Zach, what was it specifically about the background on Colby that made you comfortable with that? Or was there certain
01:04things that stood out to you about that report?
01:06Just talking to all the humans we talked to that really stood on the table for him and Georgia returned
01:14him to play.
01:14You know, so Georgia went through the whole process, returned him to play. So it just felt really comfortable with
01:21the person we're adding to our locker room, the person we're adding to our community, just all of us getting
01:26to know the kid, feel really, really comfortable with bringing Colby in here.
01:30And I think once you all get to know him, you'll see the same thing we see.
01:33Dan, from a character standpoint, when you met with him and you were with him and spent time with him,
01:38what stood out?
01:38Yeah, well, I mean, I just think the way he was able to articulate his responsibilities within their offense, really
01:47his mature kind of perspective on his whole college career, right?
01:53Because he's a he's a super talented guy. And sometimes those guys come with maybe bigger production.
02:01And I just think he had a very mature perspective on that, maybe things he could have done better along
02:05the way, areas he felt like he needed to grow.
02:09And then, you know, we always test these guys. We teach them parts of our offense, have them, you know,
02:14be able to teach them back to us in a in a short time period.
02:18And he just was excellent at all that articulate, intelligent, all the things we look for to be able to
02:26run our offense.
02:28So we're excited. What does it do for you guys to have a second body type like T?
02:32I'm not comparing him to T, but a 6'4", 220 type receiver.
02:36Yeah, I think that length, that speed, the competition he's faced, he's just he's a great fit for what we
02:43do.
02:44You know, we like to throw the football. And so the more guys that I think can be added and
02:49viewed as weapons is a really good thing for us.
02:51And so, you know, we've got guys with a lot of length. We've got a lot of those guys.
02:55You know, you look at T and Dre and now Colby and you look at the tight ends, Gusecki.
03:03So I feel really good about the room we've created there with both that tight end room and the receiver
03:08room.
