Iran’s FM Abbas Araghchi meets with Pakistan officials but rules out direct talks with US

US special envoys Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner are expected to arrive in Pakistan on Saturday ahead of a second round of peace talks between the US and Iran. Tehran, however, has ruled out direct talks.

00:02Iran's Foreign Minister Abbas Arachi arrived in Islamabad Friday night, ahead of a planned
00:07second round of peace talks with the United States.
00:10US Special Envoy Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner are also due to head to Pakistan on Saturday

00:17However, shortly after Arachi arrived in the capital, his ministry said the talks would
00:22be indirect.
00:24A first round of negotiations already took place in Pakistan earlier this month, but
00:30both sides failed to reach a deal.
00:33Tehran had initially declined to send a delegation to Islamabad for a second round.
00:38It now has done so, but confirmed Iranian officials do not plan on speaking with US representatives
00:44directly.
00:45Instead, they said they would convey messages to Pakistani officials.
00:51Islamabad had a heavy security presence on Friday, with checkpoints around the city
00:56and road closures in the so-called red zone surrounding the expected negotiation venue.
