00:00Hello friends, today I'm going to explain a short film called Battleground.
00:04At the beginning, we are introduced to a hitman named Rance,
00:08who is on his way to complete his latest assignment.
00:11His target is Morris, the owner of a toll company.
00:15We see Rance parking his car in front of Morris's building and patiently waiting for the right
00:20moment. Morris, meanwhile, goes into his storage room looking for something.
00:26While searching, he finds several items tucked away inside.
00:30Eventually, Morris heads to his office cabin, completely unaware of the danger lurking outside.
00:37Rance spots Morris standing near the window and decides it is time to move.
00:41He leaves to carry out his mission. He returns to prepare himself,
00:46covering his face so he cannot be identified by any cameras.
00:50He then sets a timer on his phone and places it near the main entrance.
00:55The security guard thinks it is a bomb.
00:57He rushes to open the main door and tries to throw it out, but Rance is already there waiting.
01:03He shoots the guard dead, takes his keys, heads straight to the security room,
01:08and shuts down all the CCTV cameras. With complete confidence, he then moves through the building,
01:14silently eliminates the remaining security personnel, and reaches Morris without wasting a single second.
01:21He makes sure Morris is dead, then calmly picks up a few items from the table.
01:26Among them is a photo frame, a picture of Morris with his mother, something she had gifted him.
01:32Rance doesn't give it much thought and quietly walks away.
01:35In the next scene, we see Rance returning home.
01:39He messages his client confirming the mission is complete.
01:43A woman sitting nearby asks him for a piece of chewing gum.
01:47While he rummages through his bag, she notices a small green toy inside.
01:52She finds it strange to see a child's toy in the bag of a man like him.
01:57Rance hands her the gum and thinks nothing of it.
02:00Then, as he arrives at the airport, he sees that news of Morris' murder has spread everywhere on the news
02:05screens.
02:07On his way out, he notices a small doll in a little girl's bag, identical to the one he spotted
02:12at Morris' house.
02:14He brushes it off.
02:16But then it happens again.
02:18He spots the same green toy sitting on the reception desk of his apartment building,
02:23and this one also resembles something from Morris' place.
02:26He dismisses all of it, heads up to his penthouse, and carefully places the green toy on his display shelf.
02:33That shelf holds various small objects and souvenirs,
02:37things Rance has quietly taken from the scene of every murder he has committed.
02:41Later that night, while working on his laptop, Rance falls asleep on the couch.
02:47His doorbell rings.
02:49He wonders who could possibly be visiting at this hour.
02:52When he opens the door, he finds a courier package addressed to him.
02:56The box has his name and address written on it, along with a signature,
03:00the very same signature he had seen in the photo frame on Morris' table, the one his mother had given
03:06him.
03:07Rance stares at it carefully.
03:09He calmly sets the box down, suspecting it might contain something dangerous.
03:14Upon opening it, he finds a note from a company saying there is a bonus surprise inside.
03:20Rance remains cautious.
03:22After observing the box for a moment, he opens it further and finds small plastic toy soldiers,
03:28some accessories, and tiny weapons.
03:31He picks up one of the soldiers to examine it.
03:34It feels like nothing more than a harmless plastic toy, so he sets it down on the corner of the
03:39table and
03:39walks away. A moment later, the toy falls off the table on its own.
03:45Rance pauses.
03:46He had not placed it near the edge, so how did it fall?
03:50He walks back to check and notices that the soldiers are no longer inside the box.
03:55Just then, Rance senses that something is very wrong in his apartment.
04:00The curtains begin to move on their own.
04:03Lights start switching off one by one.
04:06He checks the doors and finds they have been tampered with, then, while trying to make sense
04:10of everything, he suddenly feels a sharp sting in his leg.
04:14He looks down and realizes he has been shot, by one of the tiny soldiers.
04:19The soldiers are alive, armed, and they are attacking him.
04:23Rance is caught completely off guard.
04:26The soldiers open fire with their miniature weapons, and the pain is very real.
04:31He retreats, taking cover wherever he can, and eventually makes it to the bathroom,
04:36locking himself inside.
04:38His chest and legs have taken damage from the tiny but surprisingly powerful bullets.
04:43He catches his breath and uses a small mirror to try and observe what the soldiers are doing in the
04:48other room.
04:49Through it, he sees the soldiers firing at the living room lights,
04:53plunging the apartment into darkness.
04:55When one of the soldiers spots the mirror, they destroy it.
04:59This infuriates Rance.
05:02He regains his composure, slips out through another door,
05:05and circles around through his bedroom to reach the kitchen.
05:09From there, he retrieves a weapon and begins firing back at the soldiers.
05:13Suddenly, the apartment goes quiet.
05:16The soldiers fall back.
05:18Rance takes advantage of the silence and throws the cushions off the sofa,
05:22eliminating any hiding spots.
05:25When there is no response, he flips the sofa over and discovers that many of the soldiers are lying
05:30dead, while the remaining survivors are helping their wounded.
05:34Rance cannot believe what he is seeing.
05:36Some of the soldiers begin to scatter and run for their lives.
05:40Rance pursues them and crushes as many as he can underfoot.
05:44A few survivors fire back at him, but he pushes through.
05:48Then, just when he thinks it is over, three miniature army helicopters emerge from beneath
05:53the table and begin firing at him from above.
05:56Rance is forced to retreat again, making it back to the bathroom and locking the door.
06:01He looks at himself in the mirror, deep cuts cover his face,
06:04hands, and legs from the helicopter assault.
06:07He quickly applies ointment to stop the bleeding.
06:11He takes a moment to steady himself.
06:14Then a large cannonball blasts through the bathroom door, tearing a gaping hole in it.
06:19One of the helicopters flies through the hole and launches another attack inside the bathroom.
06:25Rance grabs it with a nearby cable, slams it to the ground, and destroys it.
06:30He flushes the wreckage down the toilet.
06:32But even then, one tiny pilot still clings to life.
06:37Rance finishes him off and sends him down the drain as well.
06:41He decides he will spend the rest of the night barricaded in the bathroom.
06:45A few hours later, a shadow appears outside the door.
06:49A soldier slides a note underneath, a formal demand for Rance to surrender.
06:54Rance is genuinely impressed by the boldness of these tiny soldiers.
06:58He writes a reply out essentially telling them exactly where they can go, and slides it back.
07:04But when he reaches under the door to pass it through, he realizes it is a trap.
07:10Soldiers are positioned in a firing line with a miniature tank aimed directly at the door.
07:14They open fire.
07:16Rance dives away just in time, but the impact leaves the door riddled with holes.
07:22Rance makes the decision to escape through the window.
07:25He climbs out, but finds himself on the ledge of an upper floor with nowhere safe to go.
07:30He begins working his way toward the balcony.
07:34Before he can reach it, one of the helicopters spots him and launches an attack.
07:38A soldier on board opens fire and tries to bring him down.
07:43Rance shoots back, takes out both the pilot and the helicopter, and finally pulls himself onto the
07:48balcony.
07:49But inside, more soldiers are waiting, a tank trained directly at the balcony window.
07:55Rance sees all of this before they can react.
07:58He creates a distraction on one side, then outflanks the soldiers from the other,
08:03tagging them before they can reposition.
08:05He spots a soldier climbing into a tiny jeep, trying to escape.
08:10Rance grabs a can of spray and a lighter, creates a makeshift flamethrower, and burns several soldiers
08:15alive.
08:17Then, in a fury, he takes a kitchen knife and cuts through the remaining ones.
08:22He finds the first wave of soldiers and crushes them under a heavy box.
08:26When the last soldier is finally dead,
08:29Rance collapses on the floor and stares up at the ceiling, surrounded by burnt and broken toys.
08:34To be completely certain, he collects every single soldier and counts them against the number
08:39printed on the box.
08:41The count matches.
08:43Rance exhales deeply, finally feeling safe.
08:46But he has still not thought about one thing, the bonus surprise that was mentioned on the box.
08:52He pours himself a drink and heads to the swimming pool to unwind.
08:56Without warning, something slashes his hand beneath the water.
09:00He pulls it out and sees it is bleeding heavily, needing stitches immediately.
09:05He does his best to stitch it up on his own.
09:08He then decides to leave the building entirely so that whatever is left will stop pursuing him.
09:14He heads to the elevator to make his exit.
09:17Suddenly, the elevator loses power and stops dead between floors.
09:21In the darkness, something attacks him again.
09:25He switches on his flashlight and discovers that deep cuts have appeared on his leg and hand.
09:30The beam of light falls on a single soldier standing in the corner of the elevator,
09:34unlike the others, this one is different.
09:37Larger.
09:39More dangerous.
09:40A commando.
09:42Rance manages to pry open the ceiling panel of the elevator and pulls himself into the shaft to escape.
09:48He drops into a second elevator car below and allows himself a moment of relief,
09:53thinking he has finally gotten away.
09:55But the commando does not give up.
09:58It follows him down into the second elevator.
10:01Rance has lost a significant amount of blood by this point and is barely holding on.
10:06The commando launches a relentless assault on his chest.
10:10But because of its small size, Rance manages to grab it,
10:13shove it into the gap between the closing elevator doors, and crush it.
10:18The last soldier is finally dead.
10:21Rance looks at the headless soldier and manages a tired smile.
10:25But then he notices something, there is a bomb wired inside the soldier's body.
10:30It detonates.
10:31The blast kills Rance instantly.
10:34In the final shot, the small green toy sitting on his shelf slowly begins to spin on its own.
10:40And that is where the movie ends.
