Hundreds of Australian and New Zealand nationals attended a dawn service at ANZAC (Australian and New Zealand Army Corps) Cove on the shore of Gallipoli in Turkey on Saturday (April 25).

The ceremony marked the 111th anniversary of the day when thousands of soldiers struggled ashore on a narrow beach at Gallipoli during an ill-fated military campaign that claimed more than 130,000 lives.

01:17And their loss has left lasting scars for so many families and their communities.
01:26Gallipoli was the first time that soldiers from Australia and New Zealand fought under
01:30their own flags and is seared into the national consciousness as a point where their countries
01:35came of age, emerging from the shadow of the British Empire.
01:38In honor of the Australian and New Zealand soldiers who lost their lives, the Turkish government
01:44has named the site ANZAC Cove.
