00:00i came across this idea from the netherlands and it's one of those simple things that actually
00:05makes a lot of sense in some urban areas instead of using completely solid pavement they are laying
00:11bricks with small gaps in between and in those gaps grass grows so instead of hot sealed surfaces
00:19everywhere you get these little strips of green built right into the street what's cool is how
00:26much it helps the grass keeps things a bit cooler by reducing heat and releasing moisture into the air
00:34so on hotter days the ground doesn't feel like it's radiating heat back at you
00:39and it's not just about temperature when it rains water doesn't just sit there or flood the streets
00:46it seeps through those gaps into the ground which takes pressure off drainage systems
00:52it's such a low-key change but it shows how cities can work with nature instead of against it
00:57without doing anything overly complicated
