00:00Have you ever thought about how unsafe it feels when someone is targeted just because of who they are?
00:06In Strathfoyle, a family recently faced something really disturbing.
00:10They were reportedly abused for weeks, not just with verbal harassment,
00:15but also incidents like mud and water balloons being thrown at their home.
00:20Imagine living in your own house and still not feeling peaceful or safe.
00:25That's what makes this situation so serious.
00:28And police had to step in after receiving reports and speaking to several young people involved.
00:35Now, this case has also raised a bigger conversation in the community about race-related hate incidents.
00:42Anti-racism campaigner Beverly Simpson spoke out strongly about it,
00:46saying that every family deserves to live in peace, no matter their background or ethnicity.
00:52She also pointed out something important.
00:54People in every community have a responsibility to make sure their neighbors feel safe.
01:00According to her, awareness is growing around race-hate crimes,
01:04and that awareness is actually the first step toward change.
01:08Because once people start recognizing the problem clearly,
01:12they can begin to deal with it properly, educate others,
01:15and hopefully prevent these kinds of incidents from happening again in the future.
01:20The end of this week's animation is focused upon her.
