00:28You
00:43Oh, could I see him?
01:19I guess I've really done it this time, huh?
01:26I don't know.
01:27Sorry, Dad.
01:27It's okay.
01:29It's okay.
01:29It's okay.
01:30Come on.
01:33Take a seat.
01:36Because we got, uh...
01:39I gotta...
01:40I gotta...
01:44We...
01:50I don't know where to begin.
02:00How's Grandma?
02:03She's good.
02:05She sends her love.
02:08Okay.
02:12Should we get around to fixing the NEC?
02:19I don't know what to say.
02:24Okay.
02:27Well...
02:29Neither do I.
02:31I didn't realize how sick you were.
02:37You need help.
02:40Okay.
02:42No, but I mean...
02:44You know, like from a professional.
02:46You know.
02:49Because...
02:50I still think you can be treated.
02:54You know, I...
02:57Because I...
02:59You know, I have to hope you can get better.
03:06Because...
03:06I just...
03:12I've just been trying to think how this all happened.
03:16Because...
03:16I didn't raise you to be like this.
03:20Yeah.
03:21Yeah.
03:21So why do you think you...
03:27Why'd you do it?
03:32I don't know.
03:33Okay.
03:35Well...
03:36See?
03:37No, that's not gonna cut it.
03:40I'm sorry.
03:41Well...
03:42Hey, Jeff.
03:44I don't need you to say sorry.
03:50I need to know why.
03:53Because there needs to be some responsibility here.
03:56What you've done to the family.
03:58To grandma.
03:59To Sherry and me.
04:02Hmm.
04:04I mean, do you...
04:08Do you have any idea how this all started?
04:13I don't know.
04:16I mean...
04:18I've been...
04:19Thinking about it...
04:21A lot.
04:24You know?
04:29Because I used to...
04:35Well...
04:37Remember when you...
04:38Used to take me to go and find Rose?
04:40A roadkill.
04:41And...
04:42We'd cut him up.
04:43Oh, no, no, no.
04:46You're not gonna lay this on me.
04:47No.
04:48No.
04:50Okay.
04:51It's not my fault.
04:53I didn't do this.
04:55I was a good dad to you.
04:57I know.
04:57No.
04:58I mean...
04:59The...
05:02The...
05:03The...
05:04The...
05:05The...
05:05The...
05:05All I...
05:06What I was doing was I was showing concern for my son who finally showed an interest in something.
05:10It's okay, dad.
05:10You know?
05:11I mean, what you did, I didn't teach you how to do that.
05:13No.
05:14You hear me?
05:15Okay.
05:19I...
05:20I didn't do this!
05:21I didn't do this!
05:35Let's go.
05:36There she is!
05:37Mrs. Thomas!
05:38Mrs. Thomas!
05:38What did we talk to you about your son, Jeffrey?
05:40How do you feel about the crimes he's been killed?
05:42Mrs. Thomas!
05:42Oh, please leave me alone!
05:43You know why your son ate people?
05:44Why does he think they're talking to black and latino gay men?
05:47Do you think these were hate crimes?
05:48Mrs. Thomas!
05:48Leave me alone!
05:49Mrs. Thomas!
05:51My name is not Dahmer!
06:13Isaac Richards.
06:15Yes.
06:19I'm Joyce Flint.
06:24I have the results of your HIV test.
06:35You're negative.
06:36You're negative.
06:46Jesus!
06:47I'm sorry.
07:15Ma'am.
07:17Why are you crying?
07:20It's just my hand.
07:26Um, Pop.
07:28I'm just so happy you don't have to give your mother any bad news.
07:42Sweetheart?
07:45Lionel, what are you doing?
07:47I'm just, uh, I'm up early.
07:50You never came to bed.
07:53I'm sorry, what did you say?
07:56Honey.
07:58We need to talk.
08:05Honey, you have to sleep.
08:06This isn't healthy.
08:08My schedule's all messed up.
08:11Well, you should be using this time just to rest.
08:15I can't rest, Sherry.
08:17Then we need to see a doctor and get you some sleeping pills.
08:21Because five nights in a row of not sleeping is not healthy.
08:24Yeah, that'll do it.
08:25Yeah, yeah.
08:26More pills.
08:26That's just what this family needs.
08:28You do know that pills are what started this whole thing.
08:31You know that.
08:31Just calm down.
08:32How many pills do you think she was on when she was pregnant with him?
08:35Thousands.
08:36She was sleeping pills, sedatives, seizure medication.
08:39She didn't give him a fucking chance.
08:41Ron, you can't blame Joyce for this.
08:44The fuck I can't.
08:47Because it's her fault.
08:50She wasn't a mother.
08:54She never even held him.
08:56Stop screaming.
08:57She scared the shit out of him.
09:00And then she just left.
09:02She got in her car and she drove away and she left that kid in that house all summer.
09:08Well, where were you that summer, Lionel?
09:12Oh, God.
09:13No, I'm sorry.
09:14I didn't mean that.
09:16Oh, hey.
09:17We are in this together.
09:20I should have checked up on him.
09:21I didn't check up on him.
09:23But you didn't know.
09:24Go.
09:29He's got my genes, Sherry.
09:31Half of that boy is me.
09:34And I.
09:38I've had thoughts like him, I think.
09:40I used to.
09:43I used to.
09:45Try to make explosives.
09:48And I would.
09:50Use fireworks and I would.
09:52Tie a little army guy to them.
09:54And one day I brought a homemade bomb.
09:56To school.
10:00And I threw it out the goddamn window for Christ's sake.
10:04Oh, honey.
10:04That's not the same thing.
10:06No, no, no, no, no, no, no.
10:08No.
10:08No, listen.
10:08But.
10:13I had fantasies like him, too, I think.
10:18There was a neighborhood girl and she lived on our block.
10:21And.
10:22I tried to hypnotize her.
10:25Because.
10:27I don't know.
10:32To get her to do whatever I wanted.
10:38And I used to sit in church.
10:46And think what it would be like to kill someone.
10:48To murder them.
10:51And.
10:53I had nightmares about it.
10:55For a while I did.
10:58But it wasn't about how I.
11:01Kill someone.
11:03Because.
11:04It was about how I'd already done it.
11:08Knowing that I'd kill someone.
11:10And not knowing what to do.
11:13But you didn't.
11:16You know, there is nothing wrong with your genes, honey.
11:19I mean, just look at David.
11:21He's got half your DNA and he's a nice, normal kid.
11:25Wouldn't you say?
11:27Yeah.
11:29Yeah.
11:34Yeah.
11:35Yeah.
12:02I'm sorry.
12:03Yes.
12:03Sir, you're not allowed to be here.
12:05You can't go in there.
12:06Sir.
12:11Chef.
12:13He's probably asleep upstairs.
12:14It's so early.
12:15Leave her alone.
12:16Sir, you cannot be in here.
12:17She's my mother.
12:18Get him out of here.
12:19You're scaring her. You have no right to be in here.
12:20This is a crime scene, sir.
12:22Your son killed people in this house, Mr. Dahmer.
12:24You understand that?
12:25You have no right to be in here.
12:25He's cooperating with us. You know that, right?
12:27Look, she has dementia.
12:28You come in here, you start going through her stuff,
12:30she's going to have a nervous breakdown.
12:31Jeff!
12:31Oh, you come down here.
12:34Come on, please.
12:34Just let me put her in her room.
12:36We'll be out of your way.
12:37Please, please.
12:39Come on, Mark.
12:44There's that queen.
12:48Lionel?
12:50Oh, yeah.
12:54Um, okay.
12:56Oh.
13:00Oh.
13:04Ah, not your movement.
13:09Today, the city of Milwaukee is hurting.
13:16Jeffrey Dahmer's heinous crimes have not only shocked the nation,
13:22they've inflicted a painful and devastating wound on this community.
13:30Now, some folks have asked me,
13:35going out to Milwaukee.
13:38Dahmer's been caught.
13:39Aren't you just stirring up more division?
13:44For those folks, I say, I come here today not to sow division, but to call for accountability.
13:55Dahmer's crimes were committed in a vacuum.
13:59Many people, including officers of the law, turned a blind eye, which is why he was able to do what
14:07he did for so long.
14:10But you're lucky you've got a strong leader in police chief, Arreola.
14:15Well, the chief told me he's planning to launch a thorough investigation into what went wrong,
14:22especially that incident involving that young boy, Conorick Centosaphone.
14:29But let me be clear, we are not content to simply listen to words, comforting words.
14:40Words like healing, cooling down, coming together.
14:49Those are all cold words that mean exactly the same thing.
14:55Let's sweep this under the rug.
15:00We will not be satisfied.
15:02We will not rest until the conditions no longer exist that would allow someone like Jeffrey Dahmer to murder 17
15:12young men,
15:13many of them black and brown.
15:15We will not rest until justice prevails for all citizens in this city.
15:20We will not rest until empty words are replaced with decisive action.
15:25We will not rest.
15:26We will not rest.
15:28We will not rest.
15:37This isn't fair, chief.
15:38You can't suspend us.
15:39We did nothing wrong.
15:41Nothing wrong.
15:42You returned an underage boy back to a serial killer that would eventually kill him.
15:46You didn't check his identification or his age.
15:49You ignored witnesses.
15:50You didn't do a background check on Dahmer.
15:52We didn't see a need to do a background check on Dahmer.
15:54Well, if you had, you would have seen that Dahmer was still on probation for child molestation.
15:58Look, the kid looked like an adult, all right?
16:00We thought it was a boyfriend-boyfriend thing.
16:02So I guess that's why you had to get de-loused after the incident.
16:05That is what she told dispatch, isn't it?
16:07We have it on tape.
16:08That was a joke.
16:09Then there's Glenda Cleveland, Dahmer's neighbor.
16:12She claims that she called multiple times about him, but you ignored her request.
16:15Whose side are you on, chief?
16:17This isn't about sides.
16:18Your boy's screwed up, and I'm under a lot of pressure.
16:20I have the mayor, the community, Jesse Jackson.
16:23The whole damn country's breathing down my neck.
16:25I have to do something.
16:26You're our police chief.
16:27You're supposed to have our backs.
16:30You'll both be on paid leave until the panel finishes its investigation, after which
16:35we'll make a final determination.
16:41You know what?
16:43Our union reps are gonna fight this.
16:46You can't fire us, trust me.
16:49We will be here long after you.
16:57Did you think that Jeffrey Dahmer was going to eat you?
17:00Yeah.
17:03I did.
17:07See, it's gonna eat my heart.
17:10Harrowing stuff.
17:12His name is Tracy Edwards, the man who was almost Jeffrey Dahmer's final victim.
17:18Thank you, Tracy, for telling your story.
17:20Our next guest is a childhood friend of Jeffrey Dahmer's who agreed to come on the show on condition
17:26of anonymity, and he's got a story that's a Geraldo exclusive.
17:30We'll call him Nick.
17:32Thank you for coming on the show.
17:35Thank you for having me.
17:37I understand you had a sexual relationship with Jeffrey Dahmer.
17:42How did you meet him?
17:44We were on the yearbook staff.
17:46Jeff, I wasn't on the yearbook staff.
17:48Where did this sexual activity take place?
17:52At his house.
17:54Did you meet his family?
17:57Oh, yeah.
17:57He had a stepmother who was like a stepmother from hell, screaming at him all the time.
18:05It's just all lies.
18:06That's why Dahmer's second wife, Sherry.
18:09And, um, he said to me, he told me that he was sexually molested by his father.
18:19I'm not watching this.
18:21Nick.
18:23Jeffrey Dahmer told...
18:24Well, that's not true.
18:26No.
18:26It's not true.
18:28None of it's true.
18:29Well, sweetheart, what can you do?
18:31I don't know.
18:31I don't...
18:32I don't know.
18:33I gotta do something.
18:38What?
18:44You're on the cover of Newsweek and People Magazine.
18:53Wow.
18:56Okay.
18:59You think I could take these with me?
19:02Just...
19:03to read?
19:04No, you can't.
19:10Hmm.
19:12What do they say?
19:14Well, what do they say?
19:15It's not good, Jeff.
19:17They're saying you're the Milwaukee cannibal.
19:20People want to kill you.
19:21They want you dead.
19:24Well, fine.
19:25I want that, too.
19:27No, no, no.
19:27No, you don't.
19:29Wisconsin doesn't have a death penalty.
19:32Well, they're talking about bringing it back, though.
19:35Because of me, right?
19:36No, no, no, Jeff.
19:37Just get that out of your head.
19:39No.
19:41Look.
19:43It doesn't help anybody
19:45for you to spend the rest of your life in prison.
19:48Okay?
19:49You need help.
19:50And there's really only one way we can do that.
19:53That's right.
19:53Yeah.
19:54For you to get the help you need,
19:56so we can understand all this,
19:57we have to convince the judge that you're insane, Jeff.
20:03But I'm not insane.
20:05Well, at the time of the killings, then.
20:09Well, no, I wasn't that either.
20:11Gee, come on, Jeff.
20:13When you kill people, you cut them up,
20:15you had sex with them.
20:18You had to stop dismembering them,
20:19so you could masturbate on them.
20:21But it wasn't crazy.
20:22It was just like a compulsion.
20:25Right.
20:25Okay.
20:26So you had a compulsion,
20:27which means you couldn't stop.
20:29Yeah.
20:30Jeff, come on.
20:31Come on, you talked about demon.
20:34You said that you were possessed,
20:35and you said that you'd wake up
20:38and you'd remember what you did.
20:40Because I was blackout drunk, Dad.
20:43That's why I didn't remember some stuff.
20:46But I knew what I was doing.
20:49Didn't want to, but...
20:52Couldn't help myself.
20:56I'm not insane.
20:57I mean...
20:58No, Jeff.
20:59No, no.
21:02You're not going to say that in court.
21:04Just...
21:04You're not.
21:06Because...
21:08We got something now, okay?
21:10We got a legal precedent.
21:13There's a previous case that's...
21:16It's very similar to yours,
21:17and it wasn't too far from here.
21:19What this guy did, it's just very similar.
21:22It was a while ago, back when I was a kid.
21:26This was in Plainfield.
21:28November 16th, 19...
21:3057.
21:3157.
21:34The owner of a hardware store, she disappears.
21:36No one knows where she is.
21:39Her son tells the police that a man by the name of Ed Gein
21:44had been there the evening before.
21:49So they go to his house.
21:53Nobody's there.
21:56So they walk around the back and find his shed.
22:07Jesus Christ.
22:10And there's the woman's body.
22:12All cut up, hanging from the rafters.
22:15So they arrest him.
22:17He doesn't say a thing.
22:21For 30 hours straight, he just sits there.
22:27Finally, he pipes up.
22:30I'd like an apple pie.
22:32And a slice of cheese.
22:35Then he starts talking.
22:37They search the house.
22:40They find the woman's head in a burlap sack.
22:43And there's just body parts everywhere.
22:48Bowls made out of people's skulls.
22:52He had skulls on his bedposts.
22:55He upholstered his chairs with human skin.
23:01And just like you, Jeff, you know, you said you tried to dig up a body once.
23:08Yeah, just once.
23:09Yeah, well, it turns out this guy, he did it like 30, 40 times digging up bodies.
23:15Oh, wow.
23:16They looked in the coffins.
23:17They were empty.
23:20And he went to a kind of a daze when he did these things.
23:24And then he would kind of wake up and he couldn't remember what happened.
23:29Did he have sex with the bodies he dug up?
23:31Okay, okay.
23:32Jeff, here.
23:34Ed Gein, the point is, he killed a lot of people too, okay?
23:39And there's no denying that.
23:41But he entered a plea of not guilty by reason of insanity and he didn't spend the rest of his
23:46life in prison.
23:47He spent the rest of his life in a hospital getting the psychiatric help that he needed.
23:53You see?
23:53Maybe we can do the same thing for you, Jeff.
23:58Hmm.
24:03Well, that does sound familiar.
24:06What?
24:10I've read about him.
24:14You know, it was a comic book.
24:16I read about him, I think.
24:18Sorry, did you say a comic book?
24:22Yeah, it was one of those, uh, weird tales ones or something.
24:27Spooky stuff.
24:31I remember the cover, I think.
24:34A fucking comic book.
24:36I mean, well, now we know where the fault lies in the whole culture.
24:40Who writes a comic book like that?
24:41Yeah.
24:41I mean, that's something.
24:42Mr. Dahmer, you've got to understand the weight of what it's like representing somebody like Jeff.
24:49We've got to stay focused here.
24:51We hold fast and stick with the insanity plea.
24:54So we do that, do we still have to go through the whole trial?
24:57Yeah.
24:57And I think we lean into it.
25:00We don't argue the murders aren't gruesome, they are.
25:03I think that helps our case.
25:04The jury has hereby determined that Mr. Dahmer was of sound mind and not legally insane.
25:13With respect to all of the 15 counts of first-degree murder he's confessed to.
25:20Which means his victims' families can rest assured that he will be sent to prison.
25:31The court shall recess till Monday, at which time victims' family members will be allowed to make impact statements to
25:38the court.
25:38And the defendant will be allowed to make a statement of his own before sentencing.
25:42The court is adjourned till Monday at 9 a.m.
26:11So that's it, huh? You're leaving, huh?
26:15No, no, no.
26:22What do you want me to say, Lionel?
26:24Well, I would like you to take some responsibility, maybe.
26:26Lionel.
26:28Responsibility?
26:28What does that mean?
26:29It's just what it means.
26:31So you're saying this is my fault?
26:33No.
26:33No, he's not.
26:34Yeah, well, as of now, I'm taking the blame for this.
26:37Have you read what they've said about me?
26:39I mean, I've not heard a word from you about the awful lies they're spreading about me.
26:43Well, I don't know what the hell you did with them when I wasn't there.
26:46Oh, is that right?
26:48And you say I did this to him?
26:50Well, it is not my fault, you son of a bitch.
26:53It's nobody's fault.
26:54You think that I did this to him when you're cutting up roadkill with him in their fucking garage, Lionel?
27:01Yeah, oh, yeah, just walk away, Joyce.
27:02Just like you walked away from your son.
27:04Lionel.
27:05You still on those pills, huh?
27:06How many are you fucking taking?
27:08Lionel!
27:09Lionel!
27:09Stop it!
27:11Right.
27:13All right, I'm sorry, I'm sorry, I'm sorry, I've got it.
27:15Okay, forgive me, I'm sorry, I'm sorry.
27:18I'm so sorry.
27:41I'm so sorry.
27:49May I help you?
27:51Miss Strader?
27:53Yes.
27:54I'm Joyce Flint.
27:56I'm...
27:56I know who you are.
27:58Is your daughter Dorothy here, Curtis' mother?
28:02She's not. What is it you want, Miss Flint?
28:05Well, first, let me just say how deeply, deeply sorry I am for what happened.
28:15For what my son did to your grandson Curtis.
28:22I realize there's nothing I can say.
28:27It's unforgivable.
28:29Why are you here, Miss Flint?
28:37I came here because I was hoping to speak to you or your daughter as a mother.
28:50To ask if, if either of you might be willing to say something in court tomorrow on behalf of Jeff.
29:03On behalf of Jeff?
29:07That the judge might consider sending him to a mental facility and not to prison.
29:15You want us to forgive your son? Ask the judge to forgive him?
29:21No.
29:27I feel for you, ma'am. Truly, I do.
29:32You want your truth as a mother to be heard. I understand that.
29:36But maybe now it's time for you to listen to somebody else's truth.
29:41You understand?
29:44Let's hear the first impact statement.
29:55My family and I came to this country by boat.
30:06We were poor, but we were hopeful.
30:15We believed in the American dream.
30:26But now, we're living in a nightmare.
30:30And it's all because of Jeffrey Dahmer.
30:43He robbed us of our son, Conrak.
30:51He robbed us of our dream.
31:00My name is Shirley Hughes, and I'm Tony Hughes's mother.
31:05I would like to say to Jeffrey Dahmer that he don't know the pain, the hurt, the loss, and the
31:14mental state he's put our family in.
31:17But I'd just like to read a poem that a good friend of my sons wrote.
31:25Why are you attacking me, Jeffrey?
31:27I thought you were my friend.
31:30Why am I a victim in your cruel and evil world?
31:34Look at the tears rolled down my face.
31:36See that each one is a cry for help and realize that I want to live.
31:42What have I done to you to make you such a maniac, to make you such a devil?
31:48Why did this happen to a person like Eddie?
31:52He gave so much and asked for so little.
31:57All he wanted was a chance to be himself.
32:02When you killed my brother, you killed my mother and father.
32:10I beg you, Your Honor, don't let this man ever walk the streets or see daylight again.
32:20Good morning, Honor.
32:21My name is Donald Bradoft.
32:25We lost on the, for the Bradoft family.
32:31As much as love in our family closed.
32:35My mother gave five beautiful kids.
32:41We lost.
32:44He destroyed the baby of the family.
32:49And I hope you go to hell.
32:52I love this world.
32:55You guys did a wonderful job.
32:58Bottom of my heart, thank to God.
33:02I got a lot of strength.
33:08Thank you all.
33:11God bless America.
33:13I'll never get a chance, again, to tell him that I loved him.
33:19You took my mother's oldest grandchild from her.
33:23And for that, I can never forgive you.
33:27Mom, I'm gone.
33:29I know there's a dragon piercing your heart day and night because of this.
33:33But yet, I'm not far away.
33:37I love you.
33:37Two fingers and one thumb means I love you in sign language.
33:44When you cry, Mom, place one teardrop outside your window ledge.
33:50And when I pass by, I'll exchange it for one of mine.
33:54And then I'll always be with you.
33:58Two fingers and one thumb, your son Tony.
34:18My name is Rita Isbell, and I am the oldest sister of Errol Lindsay.
34:23Jer- whatever your name is, Satan.
34:27I'm mad.
34:28This is how you act when you are out of control.
34:31Now, I don't want to ever have to see my mother go through this again.
34:36Never, Jeffrey!
34:37Jeffrey! I hate you, motherfucker!
34:40I hate you!
34:42This is out of control!
34:44Don't fuck with me, Jeffrey! I'll kill you, goddammit!
34:46Look at me! Look at me, motherfucker!
34:51Mr. Dahmer, before I impose sentence, I understand you have a statement you'd like to read?
34:57Yes, Your Honor.
35:27It is over now.
35:30This has never been anything for you, dear honey.
35:31a case of trying to get free. I didn't ever want freedom. Frankly, I wanted death for
35:39myself. This was a case to tell the world that I did what I did, not for reasons of
35:46hate. I hated no one. I knew I was sick or evil or both. Now I believe I was sick.
35:55The
35:56doctors have told me about my sickness, and now I have some peace. I know how much harm
36:02I have caused, and I tried to do the best I could after the arrest to make amends. But
36:09no matter what I did, I could not undo the terrible harm I have caused. My attempt to
36:15help identify the remains was the best that I could do, and that was hardly anything. I
36:22feel so bad for what I did to those poor families, and I understand their rightful
36:27hate. I know I will be in prison for the rest of my life. I know that I will be
36:34in prison.
36:42We're here outside Milwaukee County Courthouse where just moments ago, Judge Lawrence Graham
36:47sentenced serial killer Jeffrey Dahmer to 15 consecutive life terms in prison. One life
36:54term for each person is accused of killing. You all right, Mama?
37:00Yeah. I'm good. We got that bastard. We got him. And he ain't never getting out.
37:25I guess I'm getting worse coming to me, huh? It's okay, Dad. We tried our best. Listen,
37:37um, I think we might have a few minutes, so there's something that I gotta tell you. Um,
37:45now I've been looking everywhere to find out who is responsible for all this, blaming everybody
37:52except myself. And it's me. I'm the one to blame.
37:59I don't have to shut up. Okay, shut up, Jeff. Please just listen to me. Listen to me. It's
38:04me. I did this to you. All that stuff with the dead animals. I shouldn't have done that. I
38:09shouldn't have showed you how to do that. And your, uh, your fantasies about killing people
38:15and stuff. I should have made you feel like you could tell me about that stuff. You know?
38:25Because I had those same feelings. And I gave you that part of me. And, uh, I never really
38:43helped you enough when you needed it. When you went to prison, I wrote a letter to the judge.
38:48I said, my son needs help, because I knew you did. But I just left it at that, and that
38:52wasn't enough. And, uh, I wasn't a good father. I wasn't because I wasn't a good husband. And
39:05you didn't feel safe. I left you alone. I can't believe that I left you alone. I'm so sorry I
39:19left you alone. Time to go. And I'll never forgive myself. Okay. But I won't leave you again. I
39:29promise, son. I'll, I'll, I'll make it up to you. I'll, I'll, I'll visit you every
39:34week, and I'll call.
39:46I've known this was coming for a long time now. There's so much I need to say, but I
39:54find it impossible to put into words. Because it's all so horrible. Words can
40:03express the scale of my grief. When I try to take responsibility for the part I played in
40:12all of this, it is simply too painful to do so. But denying I had any part in it is
40:23a comfort
40:23I can't allow myself. Because I know it isn't true. I failed you, Jeff. And I'm sorry I
40:35wasn't the mother you needed. And I am no longer willing to live with the guilt of that fact. To
40:45all of Jeff's victims. I cannot express to you the magnitude of my regret. So it's pointless to even try.
40:56To
40:57my son David, please forgive me. You've been able to rise above all of this. And I'm
41:05sorry, then I'm not able to. I love you and your brother. I tried my best.
41:25Sweetheart. Hold on, hold on. We're in the middle of the chapter. When, uh, Jeff was... Do you remember that
41:32Christmas before Jeff went in the army?
41:33Okay, but... Just wait. Hang on one second.
41:39Oh, you know, how did I not know that writing a book is what I should have been doing the
41:43whole time?
41:44Hm? I think I have a knack for it.
41:48Lionel, I just got off the phone with David. She's okay. But he said that Joyce tried to kill herself.
41:55Oh, Jesus. Oh, Jesus. She's okay, though? Yeah. Okay. I'll call him.
42:30Thank you, guys. We're glad to be back on the force. Thank you, uh, for all your support. It's meant
42:40a lot. And, uh, it was nice to know that somebody has your back.
42:54I appreciate the call, man. Yeah, so do I.
43:03What happened?
43:05Those two cops who let that Connerick boy go back to Jeffrey Dahmer, they've just been reinstated.
43:13What?
43:15A slap on the wrist, and that's it?
43:17The mayor said they're gonna appeal the decision.
43:20And if that fails?
43:23Then we...
43:25We fought the next fight.
43:29And the next fight.
43:34And the next.
43:35And the next.
43:37...
