The force has also reported strong early results from the first two months of proactive work in the Dyfatty area under the 'Clear, Hold, Build' initiative which targets enforcement activity against those causing harm in the community.
Transcript
00:00In Swansea City Centre, efforts to tackle repeat retail crime have taken another step forward, with a criminal behaviour order
00:08secured against 46-year-old James Britton.
00:11The order follows a series of theft offences across multiple stores and places clear restrictions on his behaviour, including bans
00:19from entering specific retail premises.
00:21The case was built through close partnership working between police, local businesses and the use of CCTV evidence, ensuring a
00:29strong application to the court.
00:31It reflects a wider focus by neighbourhood policing teams on tackling prolific offenders who cause the greatest disruption to businesses
00:39and the community.
00:40Alongside targeted enforcement and visible patrols, shop theft in the city centre has fallen by 14%.
00:46Officers say the aim is not only to prevent further offences, but also to reassure businesses and staff that action
00:53is being taken.
00:55For retailers, the impact is significant, reducing losses, improving safety and boosting confidence in the city centre.
01:02Police say they will continue working closely with partners to disrupt repeat offending and protect local businesses, sending a clear
01:10message that retail crime will not be tolerated.
01:12Meanwhile, in the Devaty area, a wider programme of work is showing strong early progress under the Clear Hold Build
01:20initiative.
01:20Over a two-month period, South Wales Police and partners have focused on targeted action against crime and antisocial behaviour
01:27in the area.
01:29During that time, officers made 28 arrests for offences including assault, robbery, drug dealing and weapon possession.
01:35They carried out 45 stop searches, with a number leading to positive outcomes, and issued 38 directions for individuals to
01:43leave the area because of antisocial behaviour.
01:46Additional activity included community protection warnings and drug warrants executed at key addresses.
01:53These efforts have contributed to a 12% reduction in overall crime and a 69% drop in reported antisocial
02:00behaviour compared to the same time last year.
02:02Signs which suggest sustained enforcement is making a difference.
02:07The initiative, however, is designed to go beyond short-term results.
02:11The current Clear phase focuses on visible policing and disrupting criminal activity.
02:16This will be followed by the Hold phase, aimed at maintaining stability and preventing crime from returning,
02:23and the Build phase, which will focus on long-term investment and addressing underlying issues within the community.
02:29Police say the work has been driven by strong partnerships with local authorities and residents.
02:35While the early results are encouraging, they stress that this is just the beginning,
02:39with continued efforts needed to create lasting improvements and ensure the area remains a safer place to live.
02:45Clear Hold Build relies on effective neighbourhood policing and partnership working,
02:50providing a model to coordinate and connect existing capabilities from across police,
02:54statutory and non-statutory agencies as part of a whole-system approach.
02:59Thank you, ì•„ë‹™eness.
02:59Bye.
