00:10hello everyone and welcome to this beginner sewing community my name is oliva and in today's video
00:19we are going to be making a one-year-old dress
00:25if you are a beginner this is a great project to start with it's not complicated it's a simple
00:32baby dress so we are going to be working with the length of 12 and a half inches the dress
00:40length
00:41and we are going to be working with the width of 13 inches remember our fabric is on fold
00:47sew 13 times 2 that gives us something like 26 mark your fabric over and a half inches or your
00:55desired dress length and a width of 13 inches from the top corner go in 2 inches and go down
01:0230 inches
01:03so we are going to be working with 2 inches by 3 inches after you are going to be connecting
01:08these
01:08two lines and that will give us a guideline for our armhole you can use a curved lula to draw
01:15in
01:15your armhole or use three-hand mark your armhole after you're done with that cut your fabric and
01:21that's the pattern we are going to be working with
01:36the other thing you are going to be needing is some strips so we are going to be cutting two
01:42strips
01:43the strips the strips length is going to be 38 inches long this is our dress very simple and what
01:53we are going to be doing is we are going to fold in the casing and top stitch that part
01:59after we are done with stitching the casing we are going to bring in our stripes and just gather the
02:07dress very simple we are going to be making a baby squanch with it
02:13similar with the dress so we are going to be working with a length the squanch's length is going to
02:21be 15 inches remember it's a baby dress 15 inches will be enough and it's going to be 15 inches
02:28by 2 inches the length is 15 inches and the width is 2 inches
02:38and we are going to be 15 inches and we are going to be 15 inches and we are going
02:40to be cutting another piece of fabric 3 inches by 3 inches and this is going to be working as
02:47the decorating factor on our squanch
02:52and the next thing we are going to be using is we are going to be using is we are
02:57going to be cutting out our elastic this elastic will be used in our squanch and it will give it
03:02the gathers
03:05so it's 6 inches so it's 6 inches so it's 6 inches of elastic i'll start with a squanch and
03:11i'll sit on my sewing machine with the right sides of the fabric unfold and i'll sew a straight line
03:20after that i will unfold my fabric like turn it upside down and add the elastic i'll cross close the
03:30squanch and add the decorative details
03:33for decoration purpose that will be the end of sewing it's not easy at first it's not very hard i
03:43personally prefer using hand stitching and if i want very strong stitches i find it very easy to trust my
03:50hands this is a beginner project i know it's not perfect but hey it's all about improving and i'm so
03:56happy with the results because it's a work in progress
04:04and it's time to start working on different parts of this dress and assemble it so i'm going to be
04:13starting with my straps holding them into two and top stitching on them and i'll be repeating the same process
04:23with another stripe you know we are going to be working with two stripes
04:27so after i'm done with that i'll be adding on my brass tape and stitching it all over i'll be
04:36cleaning my seams and after that i'll stitch on my casing the casing is where i'll be pressing the stripes
04:49so for the straps for the straps for the straps for the straps so that is what i'm going to
04:54be basically doing
04:56sewing the straps sewing a case for the straps
05:03attaching bias on the raw edges of my armhole
05:06and just putting all the pieces of the dress together
05:13after i'm done with top stitching my straps i'll go on with making a facing
05:20i'll hold my fabric with a half inch swimming allowance
05:24and i'll be top stitching to make a case
05:28a case where the stripes will pass for the dress to be gathered
05:32that's what i'm going to be doing here it is
05:36i'm almost done with putting all these pieces together
05:40and as you can see it's starting to look like a dress
05:47i'm so happy with the results
05:49i was challenged a little bit because i was working with a very rough fabric
05:55it's not soft at all and i was working with
05:58two layers so that was the challenge i faced in this project but hey
06:05challenges make us who we are
06:09happy sewing bye
