Some traditions are built around spectacle, and this one leans into it.
The filmer, Jesus, told WooGlobe “El Jarramplas is a traditional and peculiar festival celebrated every January 19th and 20th in Piornal (Cáceres), Extremadura, in honor of Saint Sebastian. It features a character dressed in a multicolored ribbon costume and a conical mask with horns, who walks through the town playing a small drum while receiving a shower of turnips thrown by the villagers as a symbolic punishment.”
In the street, a costumed figure moves forward as a crowd lines the route and turnips are thrown in rapid bursts.
The masked participant continues walking through the town while people watch and keep tossing from close range.
The scenes read like a coordinated ritual, with the steady forward march set against the constant impact of flying turnips. WooGlobe Ref : WGA683096 For licensing and to use this video, please email licensing@wooglobe.com
