00:00the amount of uh men who have sports betting accounts between the ages of 18 and 49 i think
00:08it should come to no surprise that over 50 sam according to this report that you can read online
00:14on your website says that most or at least the majority of individuals have sports betting
00:20websites and i wonder that if we did this same poll next year and included prediction markets
00:25it could even be a little bit higher i would imagine yeah it definitely seems like prediction
00:32markets along with just the trend in betting are adding to this environment where you have
00:37more young men betting on sports sienna research did this poll that came out this week
00:44saying that about 53 percent of men 18 to 49 have at least one betting account so that's pretty
00:50telling you if you walk down the street and grab a guy who looks like he's under 50 they'll probably
00:55have a sports betting account which is just quite a different landscape than we had you know even
01:00just a few years ago and certainly uh you know before 2020 before you know sports betting legalization
01:06really took off uh so this poll tracked you know a lot of statistics that show that sports betting in
01:12general is more popular among young men and it's just growing in popularity overall some of the really
01:18interesting numbers i thought were the behavioral numbers they looked at they said about 60 percent
01:23of bettors reported chasing losses over the past year which is up from 52 percent last year so
01:29that's definitely something that gets thrown around a lot when you talk about the rise of sports betting
01:34also potentially being a public harm public health risk something that companies are obviously
01:40trying to take into account or at least people are pressuring them to uh it said 63 percent of
01:45respondents reported betting over a hundred dollars at least in one day which is also up from last year
01:51and then 31 said that someone had expressed concern about their gambling habits which is up 23 from
01:57last year so we're seeing as sports betting is continuing to rise that some of the potential
02:02issues around it are rising too and these companies are having to deal with that you have several
02:06lawmakers have introduced bills across states in congress to potentially curb some of the problematic
02:13activity in some cases like in ohio we talked about last week to potentially end online sports betting
02:19and then obviously the prediction market stuff is really interesting as well about 65 percent of
02:24respondents said that they think prediction markets should be regulated the same way as sports books so
02:30we're seeing that while that activity is growing um you know the people on it think that perhaps it
02:34should have the same gambling protections same structure same overall oversight which has definitely been
02:40a big centerpiece of the lawsuits between the states and the prediction markets and the cfdc and everything
02:45else so um it's really interesting to see you know the sports betting on the rise but again some of
02:50the
02:50more problematic activities around it and the public perception also changing as well as you know the
02:55industry continues to develop and can will continue to over the next couple years
