00:00Today, the judges of Pretrial Chamber 1 of the International Criminal Court unanimously
00:06confirmed all the charges against Rodrigo Roa Duterte and committed him to trial before
00:13a trial chamber.
00:15Pretrial Chamber 1 concluded that there are substantial grounds to believe that Mr. Duterte
00:20is responsible for the crimes against humanity of murder and attempted murder.
00:25These crimes were allegedly committed as part of a widespread and systematic attack against
00:32the civilian population on the territory of the Republic of the Philippines between 1
00:37November 2011 and 16 March 2019 in the context of the War on Drugs campaign.
00:46The judges bid their decision on the evidence and arguments presented by the Prosecutor
00:53and the Defence during the confirmation of charges which took place in February 2026.
01:00The judges also considered the submissions of the parties and participants, including participating
01:06victims.
01:08The Defence and the Prosecution are not automatically entitled to appeal to this decision, but they
01:14can request authorization from the Pretrial Chamber to do so.
01:18The case will be transferred to a trial chamber, composed of three different judges, who will
01:24decide on the next steps leading up to the trial.
01:29Trials at the ICC are fair and impartial, and the Defence will have sufficient time to prepare
01:35its case, while respecting the rights of victims.
