00:01Ladies and gentlemen, may I present to you the Luska.
00:07This giant cephalopod-like sea creature, half octopus, half shark, is, many believe, the stuff of fantasy.
00:16The kind of fictional monster Jules Verne might dream up.
00:20But then there are those more open-minded souls, like myself, who believe this gigantic cryptid to be as real
00:28as you or I.
00:29I will present to you the evidence I have collated proving this animal is no mere figment of the imagination.
00:35And it all begins with the first sighting off the coast of St. Marie in 1823 by this man.
00:44A pirate by the name of Pierre Lafitte.
00:55Pierre Lafitte was my great-great-great-grandfather.
00:58I'll tell you no lies. Still got the journal he had when he was pirating away.
01:03Passed on from generation to generation.
01:06And that's why this is the only boat trip where you can experience the exact place my ancestor witnessed.
01:14The Luska.
01:16Roll up, roll up! You know you want to.
01:19And I promise you guys, you will not be disappointed.
01:24So how was it?
01:26You're a believer now.
01:28To be honest, I think I'm even less of a believer than I was before.
01:34I don't know why you're bothered.
01:36Because I want to be prepared.
01:39I'm afraid nothing can prepare you for my ex-husband.
01:46Hello.
01:48Either that's him, or we've come to a soup kitchen by mistake.
01:56Hello, Giles.
01:57Kara.
01:58It's been a while, hasn't it?
02:00Oh.
02:03Stop me.
02:09This is Rory.
02:12Ah, yes.
02:13Didn't realise you were bringing him.
02:16Nice to meet you, Rory.
02:17It's great to finally meet you, Giles.
02:20Can't wait to hear all your stories about the Luska.
02:22Absolutely fascinated about it.
02:24Ah.
02:26Would you like a glass of wine?
02:28Just a cup of coffee will do me, ta.
02:31Let me see if I can find a waiter.
02:34Sit down.
02:42So how are you?
02:43I mean, you know, the...
02:45the anniversary.
02:47Feels strange to be back.
02:50It's like it was only yesterday.
02:53I'm taking the boat out later, to...
02:55to where it happened.
02:57If you fancy joining, you remember him together?
02:59No, I'd rather stay here.
03:01With Rory.
03:14I mean...
03:21Poor guy.
03:31All right, Milano.
03:51The Luska.
03:59It's just a bad dream.
04:05Yeah.
04:08How have you been?
04:10Just went for a walk.
04:11That's all.
04:14Thanks.
04:37Gila.
04:37Did you miss me?
04:38Didn't you miss me?
04:44Oh, thanks.
04:45You did me.
04:45I need you.
04:48I'm getting you bruh.
04:51You're not my lawyer.
04:51No, no.
04:53No, no, no.
04:57It's not my lawyer.
04:58No, no, no.
04:59I'm getting you.
05:01That's my lawyer.
05:02I love you, I'm getting you.
05:03I'm...
05:05I'm getting you.
05:13morning sir you're good no i am not good what's wrong turns out i am an uncle
05:25what's i came to visit uncle merv anyway that's eloise benisa didn't know i had
05:30so you're her uncle merv no i'm not i mean yes i am her uncle but not merv never merv
05:38understood
05:39okay clearly touched a nerve there well i kind of miss him so she's solomon's daughter i don't
05:46know why he couldn't just tell me that in the first place he could have just said well as it
05:50happens i do have a daughter are he and her mother together yeah not for some time apparently she's
05:55supposed to be staying with her auntie vondra but she doesn't like it there so she ran away and came
05:59here we've got a case i assume oh my god it's not a murder case is it please let me
06:08come on a ride
06:08along uncle merv please right so firstly you're not coming on any ride along and secondly it's not
06:16uncle merv it's mervyn remember hi i'm naomi by the way i work with your uncle merv
06:27right go pack your stuff young lady you've got a boat to catch i am sending you back home to
06:33antigua whatever you say uncle merv and it's not
06:39i like her
06:45victims name's giles parry 58 years of age body was found floating six miles out at sea sergeant
06:51fletches with the coast guard now a couple of fishermen going out early this morning came across the body
06:57but paramedics reckon he'd been in the water since last night thing is this is already causing a stir
07:03around the heart why is that because of those marks on his body
07:10they're all over his front and his back and the bruising here some people are saying it was caused
07:16by the loska and that's what killed him sorry what it's a sea monster a sea monster like a local
07:24legend
07:25kind of thing half shark half octopus wraps its tentacles around you and drags you under hence
07:31a sea monster not everybody believes in this thing most people don't but do you no but it's still part
07:39of our history part of our culture right well we can knock that theory on the head as a possible
07:44cause
07:45of death all right except there's a little more to it than that sir that's why he's here
07:58i always wondered whether this would come back to haunt me seven years ago yesterday giles parry's
08:0516-year-old son benjamin ground that seal in the exact same location as jiles's body was found this morning
08:16a local fisherman
08:18told me that mr parry had sailed out to that spot yesterday to pay his respects then he ended up
08:27dead himself
08:30was he stormy yesterday called the harbor master it was come for the last 24 hours and do we know
08:37what time he left the harbor just before seven o'clock according to the gps also there's a boat mechanic
08:43who's been fixing mr parry's engine so i'm leaving he says there was definitely nobody else on the boat
08:49with him it's arrived at a final destination half an hour later radar shows no other boat near it at
08:56any
08:56point so what happened to him how did he end up dead with all those weird markings on him unless
09:03you know it was the last guy i hate to break it to you officer rose but sea monsters don't
09:11exist
09:11no yeah i know but it'd be cool if they did do all right what's that
09:26it's a bullet it's a bullet our victim wasn't shot right no and there was no gun found on the
09:33boat
09:34not that i've found so far
09:40so what is that doing here
09:50i don't know what happened on that boat but the fact that we found this on it means it's suspicious
09:58i think someone else was there you know
10:04i'm going to talk to katherine from what i know james parry was a isolated finger but he did drink
10:12at her bar and he would talk to her i'm also going to contact the guadalupe police and request the
10:19benjamin parry case files so well so the search back then wasn't led by the saint marie team as it
10:26was
10:27the guadalupe coast guard who was first contacted when the empty boat was discovered they stayed there
10:33clean i bet that rankled i did push for us to have a role but the senior investigating officer
10:41wasn't interested
10:46there's some people on saint marie who think i should have pressed harder especially when they
10:53ran into a dead end earlier on it's always been felt more could have been done not by me
11:07considering i am already persona non grata i would like to do my bit to try and solve this case
11:16now
11:17and win back the community's trust i've located the victim's ex-wife she and her partner are staying
11:24at a hotel just outside tom
11:35we arrived here two days ago to mark the anniversary of kara's son's passing
11:41and i'm sorry to ask miss smart but your son benjamin why did he take the boat out on his
11:47own
12:03and he took the boat we'd hired out for a last ditch sighting of the loska the weather turned bad
12:14the sea was rough he never came back
12:22i kept hoping they'd find him alive with a life jacket on just floating somewhere
12:28this time passed you have to accept that he's not coming back
12:33so you returned home to england after 10 months giles and i were arguing non-stop by then
12:41i just needed some space some time to process it all whereas he
12:50giles was convinced the luska took their son he became obsessed that's why he stayed on here when i
12:58left to try and prove the luska exists and he really truly believed in it
13:07and yesterday did you see giles at all we had an early dinner at five it's great to finally meet
13:14you
13:14giles and how was that how was giles then it was fine you know quiet giles was giles
13:23still as delusional as he ever was did giles ever own a gun at all not like we were together
13:30and i i
13:31struggled to leave he bought one while he was out here what exactly happened to giles you said that
13:37he was found dead at sea i assumed it was an accident but is there more to it than that
13:43well we're not sure yet we're still working on that one
13:56hey my friend's dad swears he saw the luska one time okay sir come on never the same afterwards
14:04let's keep our focus on the keys
14:08so
14:33auntie vondra i mean vondra
14:42vondra vondra it's all right she's back at my place she's safe thanks okay look i'll call you
14:47back in a bit
14:51hey uncle mo hope you're hungry i ordered lutz which reminds me i borrowed your credit card this morning
14:59needed it to pay for the boat ticket back to saint marie and dinner you really are your father's
15:04daughter aren't you i know right what's going on eloise why are you back here because we need to talk
15:13about dad we could have done that this morning why didn't you mention it then i was waiting for the
15:19right moment and before i know it you're shoving me on our boat back home
15:25all right what about your dad we need to work out a plan uncle merv
15:31a plan for what to get him out of prison to find evidence that proves he's innocent
15:38okay um what exactly did your dad tell you about him being arrested just that he was set up and
15:45shouldn't be in jail that's it's a miscarriage of justice so we need to help him right
15:59why don't you go and get some plates and cutlery yeah
16:02why don't you go and get some plates and cutlery yeah
16:08so you idiots
16:31Solomon clearly hasn't told her about the scam he got caught up in, that he is as good
16:35a shot someone and held me hostage he's dressed it up like he was the victim and she obviously
16:44idolizes him what are you going to do I should just tell her the truth right just tell her
16:53in a nice way not in a Dior kind of way what is a my kind of way you know
17:01sometimes you
17:02can be a tiny bit insensitive insensitive me insensitive or that is rubbish I mean if
17:12anything it's everyone else who is too sensitive sure that's totally what sis
17:24Eloise right I'm I'm off to work now so we can have dinner later yeah and we'll
17:32um we'll talk okay uncle my old school I like it
17:47right where we at with the case anything from the lab yet postmortems estimating time of death between
17:547 30 and 8 pm so the victim leaves the harbour at 7 dies between 7 30 and 8 at
18:03sea
18:03just after he drops anchor and cause of death was internal bleeding due to a ruptured spleen which in
18:12theory could have been caused by something gripping him tightly like the tentacles of the lusk
18:21or more likely something else
18:24same with the red markings kind of like friction burns but there's nothing at the scene to suggest
18:31what might have caused it what about the search of the victim's house
18:36Mati and Seb are just starting
18:54Sarge you have to see this 10 year old Seb will be losing his mind right now
19:01like seeing once the central in here
19:06this is gonna be the best search ever all right officer rules you start on the computer
19:11I'll hit the cabinets all right cool
19:20you all right Sarge yeah it's just my old bus from Jamaica I'll call him once we're done with
19:36this so what do we know about our victim Charles Parry worked as a paramedic back in the UK until
19:43he
19:43moved out here seven years ago spent all his savings buying a boat and earned a small income giving talks
19:50about the legend of the Luska what about these two any sniff of a motive yet we're still waiting on
19:55Mr. Lyons' background and financial checks but he and Kara have been together just over a year met on a
20:01dating app now as he only met the victim for the first time yesterday I'm struggling to find a reason
20:07for him wanting Mr. Parry dead but she's a different story Miss Smart previously worked as a teacher before giving
20:15that up to write a book a few years ago a memoir about losing her son
20:19I skim read it and she's very honest about how hurt and angry she felt about Giles's behavior
20:27when I needed my husband's love the most he disappeared down the rabbit hole of fantasy casting me aside for
20:34his futile belief in a mythical beast I mean the guy had gone full on loony tune didn't he
20:39what was that you said earlier about not being insensitive
20:44look I'm not
20:45where it gets interesting
20:46is the books no longer bringing in any money
20:49she's basically broke
20:51I spoke to her literary agents in the UK and apparently a US TV production company has offered to make
20:58a documentary about her and Jousey's son going missing
21:01it's worth a quarter of a million dollars
21:04I'm sensing a but
21:06it going ahead was dependent on Mr. Parry agreeing to appear in the documentary too
21:14don't tell me
21:15he didn't want to
21:22so we spoke to the staff here
21:24well that dinner you had with Giles it wasn't as sedate as you said it was
21:29according to them you got quite worked up Miss Smart
21:32angry that your ex-husband was refusing to agree to the documentary
21:37well that's an exaggeration if ever I heard one
21:39no it's not it's the truth
21:40Joss please I need this
21:42why are you being so stubborn?
21:44because I know what they'll do
21:45make me have to look like some mad conspiracy theorist
21:48I hate you Joss
21:49so much
21:53I didn't just lose a son seven years ago
21:56I lost my husband as well
21:58he never once thought of me
22:00that maybe he needed to be there for me
22:04and even now years later I ask for his help because
22:08yes I need the money
22:09I thought at least he owed me that one favour but
22:13no
22:14not even that
22:15thing is Miss Smart we checked with the production company
22:17and that documentary's officially got the go ahead
22:20so now with Giles dying in suspicious circumstances
22:23and even the locals saying it was the Lusker that did it
22:26well it's an even more tantalising proposition than it was before
22:28you get exactly what you wanted
22:30no you're wrong
22:31I didn't kill Giles to get some documentary made
22:35I'm not that desperate
22:38I'll hesitate this
22:42so you want to tell me where you were two nights ago between 7.30 and 8
22:45we were here at the hotel
22:48we were together in our room
22:52it wasn't me it just wasn't
22:56sir
23:02that was my tissues with the commissioner
23:04they've got something
23:14this is the closest I've come to actually seeing it
23:16the Lusker
23:18I'm still shaking from what happened
23:21if ever there was proof she's out there this is it
23:23I've moored my boat a few miles out
23:25the coordinates are
23:2716 degrees
23:2832 minutes 29.8 seconds north
23:3161 degrees 55 minutes 0 1.8 seconds west
23:34there's a sinkhole on the seabed there
23:36I previously identified as a possible hope for the creature
23:39amazing
23:40it was just getting dark
23:42I heard it
23:43felt it
23:44a thud
23:45as it hit the bow of the boat
23:46and again
23:47and then again
23:48I could hear it dragging itself along as it tried to pull away
23:51it was her
23:52I know it was
23:54the Lusker
23:56I'm going to go back again tonight
24:00totally amazing
24:07just to confirm
24:08no one here actually thinks it was the Lusker that was underneath Giles Parry's boat
24:13well I'm not ruling it out inspector
24:15apart from officer Rose
24:17no of course we don't
24:18but
24:19there is more to it
24:20Giles Parry uploaded this vlog to his website two days before his death
24:25we checked his GPS and he went back to the same exact location the next night
24:30here
24:33and this isn't the same location Giles's body was found
24:36where his son Benjamin went missing
24:39no that was two miles away here
24:41but the thing is
24:43when Giles got back he deleted this video straight away
24:46so why
24:47Catherine spoke to him shortly after
24:50and he seemed troubled
24:53everything alright Giles?
24:57hmm
24:57he asked me about the commissioner
24:59knew I was friends with him
25:01and said he might need to speak with him
25:04is it to do with Benjamin's disappearance?
25:08I don't know
25:10maybe
25:18hang on these are the same coordinates he talked about in his vlog
25:21I don't know what happened there
25:23but it's clearly of significance
25:28we should go out there
25:29do a reenactment yeah
25:31same time same place same boat
25:33find out what this X is all about
25:35I was so hoping he was going to say that inspector
25:38I can't believe you're going on a monster hunt
25:41that's not what we're doing
25:42that's not what you're doing
25:51I don't understand
25:53if you're going on a boat trip
25:55why can't I come?
25:56because it might be dangerous
25:58well then I really want to come
26:00well you can't
26:01you're staying with Catherine tonight
26:02we're getting you home first thing in the morning alright
26:05but we need to talk about dad still
26:11okay
26:13look about your dad
26:14I don't know what he told you
26:16but it certainly wasn't factual
26:18what he was arrested for
26:19it's serious
26:21and I should know
26:22because I was there when it happened
26:25what are you saying?
26:28hey Louise
26:31listen there was no miscarriage of justice alright
26:34he wasn't falsely accused
26:36your dad is guilty
26:38so no I can't help you find new evidence
26:42and he'll be in prison for a while
26:45I'm sorry
26:48so what happens now?
26:49no
26:50I'll just go back home in the morning
26:53yeah
26:53of course
26:55I mean that's where your mum is right?
26:57and you're
26:58you don't want to stay with me
26:59do you?
27:01course I don't
27:02I've got a life to get on with
27:05so what's your problem?

27:51the two life rings there are missing their ropes

29:18and
29:19I told him that I had messed up on a case
29:23but not that the two were connected
29:26that my ex is a criminal
29:30I think I'd rather keep it that way for now
29:35nearing the destination now commissioner
29:36dropping the anchor soon
29:38thank you
29:39officer Rose

30:54he runs a boat excursion business
30:56in the harbour
30:57there's some sort of box under there
30:59it looks like it's time to wait
31:00to stop it moving
31:16inspector
31:16here's the box we salvaged from the sea

31:55look
31:56I'm just a middle man
31:58alright?
31:58I don't sell it
31:59I don't buy it
32:01I just make some extra money
32:02moving it from A to B
32:03Giles Parry was on to you
32:05wasn't he?
32:06at first he thought it was the
32:07Luska making those noises beneath his boat
32:13I didn't know he'd moored above me
32:15couldn't stop myself from hitting it
32:17when I came back up
32:18that's what he heard
32:19me banging against the bottom of his boat
32:21and when he went to the same location
32:23a second time
32:24to try and catch sight of it
32:26was her
32:27the Luska
32:28I'm going to go back again tonight
32:29he discovered what you were up to
32:31that's why he was talking about going to the police
32:34said he might need to speak with him
32:36I didn't know he'd seen me
32:39when I went back to the harbour
32:41I know what you're up to Kelvin
32:43I pleaded with him not to say anything to the police
32:47got to know Giles quite a bit over the years
32:50helped him with his research a couple of times so
32:52I thought he might give me a chance
32:55and?
32:56he told me he'd think about it
33:00but didn't reckon he could ignore it
33:02the next thing he's found floating six miles out at sea, dead
33:06I didn't do that to him, I swear
33:08his gun of yours
33:10what calibre is it?
33:12it's a nine millimetre
33:13why?
33:14because he found a nine millimetre bullet on Giles Perry's boat
33:17is that a coincidence Mr Mason?
33:19yes it is
33:20I wasn't anywhere near his boat when he died
33:23Mr Mason, you were questioned seven years ago
33:27when Giles' son disappeared
33:29as a witness
33:30everybody around the harbour was
33:32was that got to do with anything?
33:34so that also is just a coincidence
33:37yes it is
33:40look, if it wasn't you then
33:41where were you at 7.30 the night Giles Perry was murdered?
33:44um
33:46I was taking a drink with a guy who works for me
33:50a fella named Jackson
33:52you fancy another?
33:54call him, ask him, he'll tell you
33:55I swear
33:59but
34:01there's something else you all need to know
34:03something that happened before Giles took his boat out
34:08poor guy
34:08I went
34:09to speak with him
34:11to see if he changed his mind about
34:13talking with the police
34:15when I turned the corner
34:17he was arguing with someone
34:20Giles called him
34:21Rory
34:22I know your game
34:23Rory
34:24Giles said he had evidence of some kind
34:27I didn't hear what
34:28but he took out this folder
34:30and he gave it to him
34:31now that the Rory fella
34:34he didn't seem too happy
34:35got a bit
34:36physical
34:38he shoved Giles
34:39Giles fell over and hurt himself
34:42then what did you do?
34:44I turned and left
35:00right, let's get over to the hotel
35:02let's interview our new suspect
35:09sir
35:10with respect
35:11shouldn't we just focus on solving the Giles Perry case right now?
35:15this isn't a cold case investigation
35:17and we've got a new lead now
35:19I just have this feeling
35:21the answer lies right here in front of me
35:23if only I knew what it was
35:25okay
35:30I admit we argued
35:32Giles and I
35:33it was more than an argument Mr Lyons
35:36from what we were told
35:37things
35:38might have got a bit physical
35:39but what he was saying
35:41upset me
35:41which was what exactly?
35:43that
35:43I was only with Cara for her money
35:48Rory only told me about this last night
35:51Giles had
35:52scrabbled together
35:53and scrabbled together enough money to
35:55pay a private investigator to look into Rory and his ex
35:59that's what he found
36:02that's what he found
36:03so your previous partner
36:05invested in your business
36:08which went bankrupt
36:11she's still chasing you for money
36:13it was a total mess I made
36:15financially
36:16and personally
36:19everything in that file
36:20it's all true
36:22apart from the suggestion
36:23that I'm doing the same again with Cara
36:25because I'm not
36:26I think that's why Giles wouldn't agree
36:28to the documentary
36:29he thought that Rory would take the money
36:31but I don't
36:32I don't want a penny
36:33I just want to be with Cara
36:36so why did you follow Mr Perry down to the harbour
36:39after dinner?
36:40because he was being so unforgiving towards Cara
36:42saying that she was using their son's tragedy
36:45to line her own pockets
36:46I wanted him to know the truth
36:53we're adopting a baby
36:55starting a family
36:57and it's taken all the courage in the world for her to do this
37:00and you told him
37:08all Cara wants
37:10is to be a family
37:16I think it threw him
37:18then he picked up his things
37:19and got on his boat
37:20and that's the last time you saw him?
37:25Mr Lyons?
37:26Rory?
37:29he phoned me
37:31when I got back to the hotel about
37:33half an hour later
37:35he was out at sea
37:38what did he say?
37:40he asked if I loved Cara
37:43like he needed to get it confirmed
37:47and you said?
37:51yes I do
37:53so very much
37:59then he just hung up
38:19so a few minutes before he dies
38:21Giles Perry phones his ex-wife's new partner
38:24to ask if he loves her
38:26that doesn't sound like he was being attacked by a sea monster
38:29or murdered
38:30nope
38:31it sounds to me like a guy who'd
38:32finally made his peace with the world
38:35which kind of makes me wonder
38:37you know
38:39did Giles Perry take his own life?
38:41but then try to make it look like it was the Lusker that did it to
38:45prove to everyone that he was right all along
38:48that doesn't feel right
38:50anyway that doesn't explain the bullet
38:52why was that there?
38:53so what happened?
38:55he was alone on that boat
38:57six miles out at sea
38:58and our three suspects were all on dry land when he died
39:02how and why did he end up dead?
39:08maybe these two have the answer
39:11just come straight from the lab
39:13please tell me it's good news
39:15there are no striation marks on the bullet
39:18so they can't match it to Kelvin Mason's gone
39:21same make same calibre but
39:22hang on no striation marks at all
39:25said they've been worn a wave
39:27by incrustation of marine organisms
39:31corrosion patterns suggest
39:33that bullet has been on the seabed for six to eight years
39:37basically they're just saying the bullet is some sea debris
39:39but that doesn't explain
39:40how we ended up on the boat in the first place
39:49did Giles Perry take his own life?
39:52the two life rigs there are missing their ropes
39:54Giles Perry worked as a paramedic back in the UK
39:57until he moved out here seven years ago
39:59no the Rory fella he didn't seem too happy
40:02got a bit physical
40:04is it to do with Benjamin's disappearance?
40:07I don't know
40:08he asked if I loved Kara
40:11bingo
40:13I know what happened to Giles
40:14and how he ended up dead like that
40:30sir
40:31we cracked the case
40:33Benjamin Perry's disappearance
40:35I think I know what happened
40:41spot the difference
41:03we have a lot to thank this little bullet for
41:06it's helped us make sense of the present and the past
41:10in the present
41:11it's what solved the mystery of your ex-husband's death
41:14Miss Smart
41:15leading me to finally understand
41:17why and how Giles Perry's body was found dead in the water
41:21looking like the Lusker
41:23the legendary sea monster he'd spent seven years searching for
41:27had finally caught up with him
41:28and in terms of the past?
41:31we'll come to that surely
41:33throughout this case
41:34we've worked on the basis
41:36that whatever happened to Mr. Perry
41:38it all happened at the same time
41:41while he was out at sea
41:43but we've now realised
41:45that his injuries were actually sustained
41:48in two separate locations
41:50the first injury
41:52the bruising to his stomach
41:53and the rupturing of his spleen
41:55that happened on dry land
41:58down by the harbour
41:59when you and he tussled Rory
42:02you're saying it was me?
42:04you will be charged with involuntary manslaughter
42:07we know you didn't mean to kill Giles
42:10far from it
42:11however his subsequent fall from your push
42:14caused a serious internal injury
42:20he just didn't know it at the time
42:22oh my god
42:24Giles was totally unaware that his life was slipping away
42:27that's why he walked away from you
42:30got on his boat and went out to sea
42:33he was probably already a few miles out
42:36when he started to feel ill
42:38initially some discomfort in his abdomen
42:42feeling faint, feverish
42:45but it was only by the time
42:47he reached his destination
42:49six miles from land
42:50that he fully comprehended
42:53what was happening
42:55we know Giles used to be a paramedic
42:58so it's safe to assume
42:59he worked out what was wrong
43:02that he had minutes left to live
43:06I'm so sorry
43:08and if his imminent death wasn't a grim enough prospect
43:11Mr. Parry also realised that if his body was found on deck
43:15we would start to question how he was fatally injured
43:18and the post-mortem would more than likely lead back to the altercation he had with you Mr. Lyons
43:23and subsequently some time in prison
43:26and knowing what you told him about yourself and Kara wanting to start a family
43:32well, he didn't want to inflict any further suffering on you both
43:35that's the way he phoned
43:38and asked Warry if he loved me
43:40that's why he needed to know
43:42to be sure
43:44do you love her?
43:46he could protect you both
43:48by making it look like
43:50he killed himself
43:54it was Dias Thomas here who noticed the ropes were missing from the life rings on Giles' boat
43:59the two life rings there are missing their ropes
44:02so let's hope no one goes overboard
44:04I didn't think anything of it at first
44:06but then when I started to understand what happened that day
44:10that's when I realised why those ropes weren't there
44:18and hopefully this call will confirm it
44:22yeah
44:22they found the ropes
44:24tied to the boat's spare battery on the seabit
44:26okay
44:28thank you Sergeant Fletcher
44:32so
44:32we think Giles knew
44:34that if he tied those ropes around his body tightly enough
44:38then leave red markings
44:40friction burn
44:41and therefore when his body was found
44:43he hoped this would also explain his internal injuries
44:46the bruising
44:49all so it would misdirect from you Mr. Lyons
44:53any similarities to the Luska was a coincidence
44:56if that's what happened why was his body found floating on the surface?
45:01because of this
45:04as Giles
45:05as Giles sank to the seabed
45:07by some quirk of fate
45:09he saw this bullet
45:11maybe it got caught under a rock
45:14or wedged in some coral
45:17we can't be sure
45:18but there it was
45:21a single bullet
45:23in the same spot his son went missing
45:26and after his recent discovery of the smuggling
45:29that was going on out at sea
45:31not far from the same spot
45:33Giles is already beginning to suspect that his son's
45:36your son's disappearance
45:38might have been for more sinister reasons
45:40is it to do with Benjamin's disappearance?
45:43maybe
45:44so we believe
45:46he loosened the rope
45:48grabbed the bullet
45:49and allowed himself to float to the surface
45:53determined to cling to life
45:55as long as possible
45:56but by then
45:58it was already too late for him to climb back on board his boat
46:02so with his life ebbing away
46:04Giles did one last thing
46:06one final attempt to let everyone know what he discovered on the seabed
46:12he threw this bullet onto the deck
46:15a message from him to us
46:17to not give up on his son
46:19but maybe
46:21Ben's killer was still out there
46:24that's what you meant about the bullet helping with the past
46:28my son's case
46:31and has it?
46:40that bullet we found
46:43it turns out
46:44it's been sat on the seabed
46:46for the last seven years
46:48in the exact same location
46:51Giles and Kara's son
46:52went missing
46:53it was fired from your gun
46:57to kill
46:58Benjamin Parry
47:00but he drowned at sea
47:02why are you no saying he was shot?
47:10this photograph
47:12was taken the day before
47:14Benjamin went missing
47:17it's of him and his father
47:18outside your office
47:22and this
47:23was taken by one of the Guadalupe police officers
47:26the day after
47:28he disappeared
47:30your witness statement
47:31is unremarkable
47:34in every way
47:35apart from
47:37this photograph
47:38I had to get the magnifying glass out
47:42to really notice
47:44but in this photograph
47:47of Benjamin and his father
47:48the wall behind your desk
47:51is set farther back from the window
47:54than it is
47:55in this photograph of you
47:58where it appears
48:0040 or 50 centimeters
48:02closer to it
48:03which left me wondering
48:06why?
48:07less than 48 hours later
48:10your office
48:12had seemingly
48:14shrunk
48:14the only conclusion I could draw
48:17was because
48:18a new wall had been built
48:21leaving Benjamin's body at sea
48:23would have meant
48:24there was a possibility
48:26he could be found
48:28and if he was
48:30then it would be discovered
48:32that he'd been shot
48:35whereas
48:36if you hid his body
48:38and everybody assumed
48:40he drowned at sea
48:41then
48:43maybe you'd get away with it
48:47but where
48:49to hide it
48:50we have a team
48:52at your office
48:53as we speak
48:54about to
48:55tear down that wall
48:58so if I'm wrong about
49:01what's been hidden behind it
49:03the last seven years
49:04you have nothing to worry about
49:06but if I am right
49:10now is your chance
49:12to start talking
49:26that morning
49:29seven years ago
49:32it was real early
49:36but when I got back up
49:37with the day's delivery
49:40he was there recording me on his phone
49:44for evidence
49:46I mean stupid idiot
49:48why would you do that?
49:50because you left me no choice
49:53I had to act fast
49:55so I got the lockbox
49:57which you moved to a new location
50:00two miles away
50:02where your smuggling continued
50:05until Giles Parry
50:08discovered what you were doing
50:09all these years
50:10and Benjamin Parry's body
50:14I...
50:18I took it ashore
50:22I put him
50:23in one of the cases
50:25we stole the diving gear
50:27it's air tight so
50:30I spent the whole day
50:32getting everything
50:33I needed for that wall
50:35I spent the whole night
50:38building it
50:40and I have lived with it
50:41every day since
50:43mind how you go?
50:45and y'all let me know how it went, huh?
50:48you're with real pirate royalty now, huh?
50:51knowing that poor boy
50:52is stuck behind that wall
50:55will haunt me forever
51:02over
51:03Galvin Mason
51:03I am arresting you
51:05for the murder of Benjamin Parry
51:07you do not have to say anything
51:09but it may harm your defence
51:10if you do not mention my question
51:12something that you...
51:21this call is from a person
51:23currently in prison in Antigua
51:28Solomon
51:29Meravine
51:30I know you said you didn't want
51:31anything to do with me no more
51:32but this isn't about me
51:33it's about Eloise
51:35I know she ran away from her aunt
51:37and came to you
51:37because she doesn't like it there
51:39no, it's because you told her
51:40you were innocent
51:41and I'd get you out
51:42you lied to her
51:43maybe I was a bit free and easy
51:45with the truth but
51:46she's there because she needs you
51:48she doesn't even know me
51:50she does a bit
51:51I told her some things
51:54that you were
51:56a good man
51:58Solomon
51:59I can't...
52:02I know I'm not
52:04I have made a mess of pretty much
52:05everything in my life
52:06but that's why I'm asking you this one thing
52:09this one favour
52:11her mum and aunt are cool but
52:13she's her dad's girl you know
52:16me and her
52:18there's something special
52:21and her stupid father's got himself
52:22stuck in prison so
52:25she really needs her uncle in her life right now
52:28because you're the closest thing she's got to me
52:39so
52:41that's the queen
52:42she's the one to keep her eye on
52:44all you have to do
52:45is find the lady
52:56this one
53:04wrong again
53:06was
53:07here
53:08all along
53:09wrong again
53:21was
53:23all along
53:25I've had people arrested in Covent Garden for that you know
53:27your dad taught you I assume
53:33look I'm
53:35I'm not good at this kind of thing
53:37okay?
53:38maybe because I've never been an uncle before
53:44what I'm trying to tell you
53:45you don't know what you're doing
53:49when you haven't had a proper family in your life
53:53like I haven't
53:55you kind of grow up
53:57assuming people don't want you
53:59or need you
54:01but when you came to me I should have been there for you
54:03and I'm sorry that I wasn't
54:07but if you're up for
54:09giving your uncle Merv a second chance then
54:13maybe we can try again
54:15and I can get to know my niece properly
54:17because however it might have looked
54:20I would really
54:23really like that
54:25you wanna shake on it?
54:27we can do better than that
54:32after all this time I'd given up any hope of my son's body being returned to me
54:37so to stand here knowing
54:39my boy will be returned home to England
54:43it means the world to me
54:46so I'd like to thank
54:47the St. Marie Police Force
54:49for all their hard work in achieving this
54:52it's a diver, Commistatia
54:57yeah
54:57you ever get the answer
54:58yeah
55:01but I'd especially like to thank
55:04Commissioner Selwyn Patterson
55:06for uncovering a truth that
55:08no one else was able to
55:11I will be forever grateful
55:19what's going on?
55:20it's for you
55:22you're the man

56:06it feels like there's a lot to celebrate
56:09and you can build up a hunger when you're hunting sea monsters you know
56:12sea monsters?
56:14you didn't tell me we're hunting sea monsters
56:16that's cause we weren't
56:17well, not all of us anyway
56:20anyways, this is Commissioner Patterson, my boss
56:23it's a pleasure to meet you
56:25you too
56:27right, let's go, come on
56:28you like playing card games, Commissioner Patterson?
56:31alright, let's not start going down that road, young lady
56:33he demands speak for himself
56:35as it happens
56:36I do like playing cards
56:38yeah, but not the kind of card she wants to play
56:41honestly, Commissioner, in fact, everyone
56:42do not play cards with this girl
56:44Uncle Merv!
56:53was she just trying to hustle the Commissioner?
56:57yeah, welcome to my family
57:02you're wondering now
57:05what to do
57:07now you know
57:08this is the end
57:11you're wondering how
57:14you should be
57:16for the way
57:18you did behave
57:23the curtain has fallen
