00:12Okay, well, my character, this was in the 70s, I believe, or maybe early 80s.
00:20But she was supposed to be a real feminist, so all of my characters, you know, I had like
00:25the suspenders, I think I wore a tie.
00:28Yeah, I was supposed to be just sort of like a spunky little feminist.
00:34This was, of course, 16 Candles.
00:37This was supposed to be the bridesmaids dress that was supposed to be pretty unattractive.
00:43I actually thought it was kind of pretty.
00:45It cracks me up, though, that we're doing the scene over, like, that I'm leaning over
00:51a cake with candles on it.
00:53And I mean, that dress, like, I'm surprised that it didn't go up in flames.
00:59The overall look was just the costume designer and I went to, like, Melrose Boulevard, which
01:07is where I like to shop at that time.
01:09And, you know, I just picked out stuff and tried them on and, you know, I have always really
01:15liked to wear hats.
01:16So that's why, you know, and at the time, you know, sort of those, like, fedoras or pork
01:22pie hats were really in.
01:23I was really into, like, madness and, you know, those bands.
01:28And so, you know, I feel like the clothes that I wore were, everything was, like, something
01:35that I would have worn, except for the dress.
01:37The dress was supposed to be this one, was one that I wasn't really supposed to like.
01:42Ah, The Breakfast Club.
01:43Yeah, so there was a costume designer on that film, Marilyn Vance, who I later worked with
01:51on Pretty in Pink.
01:53We had had conversations about my costume in Los Angeles and the ideas around it.
02:00But then when it arrived in Chicago, it wasn't really like what I imagined.
02:06It wasn't really very flattering.
02:07And I wasn't really happy with the costume.
02:10So, John Hughes, just, we went out shopping and I picked out everything that I'm wearing,
02:17pretty much.
02:18Most of it came from Ralph Lauren, the boots, the belt, the skirt, the top.
02:24That was all Ralph Lauren.
02:26I think the leather jacket that I wear in the beginning, I think, is from somewhere else.
02:29But yeah, that whole thing is Ralph Lauren.
02:32I feel like she was really an aspirational swan, if you will.
02:37You know, she really cared about clothes.
02:41There was a scene where everyone, I think just about everyone says why they got in detention.
02:47And my character ditched school to go shopping.
02:50So I mean, shopping was really important to her.
02:53And I felt like she would be into Ralph Lauren.
02:57That was the kind of look that I think Claire went for.
03:02The original outfit was a lot more 80s.
03:06And I feel like the film would have looked a lot more dated had I not been wearing this
03:12costume.
03:13Okay, pretty in pink.
03:15The dress on the right was something that we had discussed, Marilyn and I.
03:20And again, it was not exactly what I had envisioned.
03:25And I wasn't really happy with the dress.
03:28Now I think it's, you know, it's sort of iconic and, you know, it's certainly different.
03:34And very much of that time.
03:36But at the time, I was sort of miserable and I took a lot of my clothes from Pretty in
03:43Pink,
03:43but I left the prom dress because I hated it so much, but now I really wish I had it.
03:48And the character had been written for me, the script had been written for me by John Hughes.
03:55So there were a lot of, I would say of all the characters that I played, there was, I
04:00was the most like that.
04:02He took a lot of things, you know, from my life.
04:04Her love of vintage, her love of, you know, fashion and all of that was really just directly
04:11for me.
04:12And also my obsession with the color pink because I was really into pink at the time.
04:17So yeah, I worked with Marilyn and she chose so many great vintage pieces and then other
04:24things that maybe we couldn't use vintage because we needed to have multiple outfits, you know,
04:32if it was like an important or a long scene, they always have to have, you know, doubles or
04:36triples.
04:37So everything, if it was either vintage or it was made to specifically to look vintage.
04:43Pickup artist.
04:44Um, yeah, this was, uh, designed by my, uh, good friend, Colleen Atwood, who, uh, I had
04:52known since I was, I think 14 years old.
04:56Um, and now of course she's an amazing, you know, Academy Award winning designer.
05:00But this was, um, this was, I think the second film that we had done together.
05:05I think this is pretty much what I wear during the whole film.
05:09This was my one outfit.
05:11So luckily I liked it and it wasn't too hard to, to be in it for two months straight.
05:17The only other thing I wear, I think in this movie is I wear an Aliyah dress in the first
05:22scene that you see.
05:23And I, I loved that and I think I still have it somewhere.
05:27Okay.
05:28Yeah.
05:28So I think that was towards the end when we went into a time warp and ended up in the
05:32fifties, um, which was really fun.
05:35Um, most of my clothes, um, you know, most of the seasons were in clothes of today.
05:41Um, and you know, Mary was a lawyer, so she, you know, had some money and you know, my clothes
05:49were always like pretty classic, um, started out with more pale colors, um, and then, um,
05:57and then Roberto, the, the show runner, creator of the show, um, decided that he only wanted
06:04Mary to wear really bright colors, really liked blue for some reason.
06:08He really adored blue, but yeah.
06:10Um, but this was towards the end when we were in the fifties and, and that was really fun.
06:16Um, I really loved working with KJ Apa who played my son.
06:19We really got along really well.
06:21I, I would say that almost all of my scenes were with KJ, um, and towards the end, Charlie
06:27Melton.
06:28Um, but, um, and in the beginning, uh, with Luke, of course.
06:32Um, but I really loved, I loved watching these kids grow up, you know, it was really kind
06:38of like a long run and they were, they started out as kids and it was really by the end,
06:43you
06:43know, KJ had had his own kid and, um, you know, it was really nice watching these kids grow
06:49up.
06:50Ah, Dahmer.
06:52Um, yeah, and this I'm, I'm playing Sherry Dahmer.
06:56I think, um, as you can see anybody who has seen the show, it's, uh, you know, everything
07:01is very yellow.
07:02They wanted the, the sets and the costumes to be sort of like urine yellow is what I heard.
07:11Um, so, you know, there were a lot of colors that I wouldn't necessarily wear.
07:16Um, I think I, I can't tell, but I think I'm wearing the, the cross, you know, she's always
07:22wearing like a little tasteful cross just to sort of, um, you know, show that she's a,
07:28she's a, she's a religious woman.
07:31Um, they both are.
07:32I was really happy to be asked to be in a Ryan Murphy show.
07:37You know, I think that he's, he has fantastic, uh, taste in, in, uh, in his cast.
07:44I mean, all of my scenes, just, just about all of my scenes in this were with Richard
07:48Jenkins, who was just a phenomenal actor and we really immediately hit it off.
07:53And I feel like when you're working with actors of that caliber, it just kind of makes,
07:58makes your job a lot easier.
08:00So, I had a really good experience doing that.
08:03And then when I was asked to do, uh, Feud, of course, I was, you know, really excited about
08:09that.
08:09And of course, um, you know, excited because it was going to be shooting in New York.
08:14Uh, but all of my scenes were pretty much in Los Angeles.
08:17Yeah, there she is.
08:19Joanne Carson.
08:20They really wanted my character to be sort of like an anecdote to all of these, uh, you
08:26know, sort of uptight, very fashionable, chic women, um, like Babe Paley and, you know,
08:33CZ Guest and, uh, Slim Keith and Lee Radiswell.
08:38You know, Joanne was really, she wasn't really an official swan.
08:42She was really more his last friend.
08:44So they really wanted my clothing to be more colorful and kind of a bit more bohemian.
08:50So, which is why I have this kind of like, almost like caftan on.
08:54But I, I really liked that caftan and I would totally wear that.
08:57All the clothes that I would want to wear were really worn by all of the women in New
09:03York.
09:03That's really much more my style, I would say, uh, than Joanne's style, but, um, but I really,
09:10I had a lot of fondness for my character.
