00:00Something very strange is happening in our skies
00:02that scientists say warrants serious investigation.
00:05The first few months of 2026 have seen an unprecedented level
00:09of large, bright fireball events.
00:11And when comparing this to data
00:13that we've been collecting since 2005,
00:15it's clear that something weird is happening.
00:18The first three months of 2026
00:19saw the highest number of fireballs on record,
00:23which was only slightly higher
00:24than the other two high years from 2022 and 2021.
00:27But it's not really the number of meteors that strange,
00:31it's everything else.
00:32Events with over 50 witness reports have doubled
00:35and so have events with over 100.
00:38On top of that, 30 out of the 38 largest fireballs this year
00:42have been big enough to cause a sonic boom,
00:45meaning it's not the frequency of these meteors that strange,
00:48it's their size.
00:49And where they're coming from
00:50and why they seem to have gotten bigger
00:52is something that we need to look into.
