00:00The International Criminal Court Appeals Chamber denies the appeal of former Philippine President
00:05Rodrigo Duterte and upholds its jurisdiction over his case. This removes the last roadblock
00:11to Duterte's trial for three counts of widespread murder in connection with alleged crimes against
00:15humanity. A separate set of judges had rejected these same arguments in 2025. Jurisdiction was
00:21Duterte's biggest defense and had he won in this round, it would have stopped the case altogether
00:25and he may have been able to go home. At the University of the Philippines in Quezon City,
00:29families of drug war victims listening to the hearing broke into applause upon hearing the
00:33decision. Duterte's confirmation of charges hearing was conducted on February 27 and the pretrial
00:39chamber has 60 calendar days to decide whether or not to confirm the charges and proceed to trial.
00:44The 60th day falls on April 28 which means a decision is expected anytime.
