00:18Hulk Hogan who some consider to be the biggest wrestling star of all time has died
00:24Terry Bollea, better known as Hulk Hogan died today after suffering cardiac arrest at his home in Clearwater, Florida
00:31Hogan's manager tells us that he passed away surrounded by family
00:39His wild personality, pumped up physique and handlebar mustache made him the face of professional wrestling
00:46His legacy also comes with controversy
00:49This won't surprise you, but I used to watch him every day after school
00:52Like a lot of kids, right?
00:54Yeah
00:54But unlike a lot of superheroes, Superman, Batman, you couldn't touch and feel him
00:57He was tangible to a lot of people
00:59They're very sad to see their legend, their childhood hero
01:03Gone in what seems like such a sudden way
01:33Oh, that's the hardest part standing up
01:37old people take a long time to get going
01:48when I was the world's champion I had this crazy gym
01:51over the years we've kind of scaled down to the
01:56to the geritol equipment here
02:04I feel okay but it's a pain in the butt you know because
02:07I have my son take the tops off water bottles all the time for me because I
02:11can't turn them kind of embarrassing in a little way
02:16it's all good huh it could be worse I don't know it's part of the deal man
02:22you know keep keeps me humble and keeps me very grateful my mind I still think
02:28like I'm 35 or 40 years old but as soon as I look in the mirror I go who the
02:32hell's that get down here it's like the only real piece of my life once I'd get
02:42in that ring I wouldn't worry about kids wives bills problems legal criminal any
02:50type of problems but I don't have that anymore you know in wrestling you should
02:57be remembered from all the wars you've been and everything you've done
03:05and a lot of that's been taken away in the last 20 years was there a sinister
03:10side to his success today the WWE announced they were dropping Hogan Hulk Hogan fired
03:16by the WWE the company I think he's a liar I think he's a coward there's certainly
03:22some things that you would want to be remembered for more than others right
03:31yeah of course
03:39I think people don't know the truth who was this guy really
03:49I actually believe in what I'm doing and the people get behind that man they

06:52I was not a mere moral man I was a superhero Hulk Hogan when I had my stature
06:58the Hulk Hogan character is over the top it's a fake character you know but hopefully people can understand that
07:05someday
07:05man I say my prayers take my vitamins and everything I do is positive but yeah it's two different people
07:11you know it's like me playing Dracula
07:14you know I'll come home and bite my wife in the neck and suck the blood out of my kids
07:17necks you know but duh if you want to believe that go ahead
07:20but when I come in the house the headband comes off the bald heads there
07:25and my wife calls me Terry
07:28Terry
07:28why do you always have to do that
07:30Terry's not going to leave this part out
07:32we're going to take some movies of Terry
07:34and you're going to make a video
07:36there were only a handful of people that knew him as Terry
07:39I knew him deeply as himself
07:41oh my god look at this
07:42we were always tan
07:43I turned Terry on to a tanning bed
07:45he didn't even know what they were
07:47and he had to stay tan for work
07:48oh Terry's naked
07:50you've done it all
07:53you've broken every code
07:57the fans just liked believing that Hulk was like Superman
08:06I know him like I mean when you're with somebody that long
08:09to be thick and thin good and bad tired but happy
08:13you know you learn that person very well
08:19and I was always the one with the camera
08:22this is the greatest wall
08:25because the greatest person is on this wall
08:27when I met Terry and I asked him
08:29hey do you have family
08:30and he laid out his situation
08:32when I was going to show these people
08:34the refrigerator that took me from a mere 196 pounds when I was 12 years old
08:40to a wallop in 305 pounds Hulk Hogan
08:43I grew up in Florida
08:45in South Tampa
08:47we were broke
08:48and I hated it
08:50you know especially you know
08:52watching how my dad slaved in the sun
08:54as a construction worker
08:58as a kid
09:00I made a decision that financially
09:03I would never live like that
09:05so we got Pete Bollea
09:07my dad was that old hard school Italian
09:10you know
09:11and he was a little rough on me
09:13that's for sure
09:13they weren't the type of parents
09:15that would tell you they love you
09:16you know that would never happen
09:18Terry was a mistake type child
09:20they had Alan
09:21and then eight years later
09:23had Terry
09:25my older brother Alan
09:26he was the tough guy
09:28Alan was my dad's favorite
09:30he was always talking about how strong he was
09:32and he would just tell me
09:34you know you're not like your brother
09:36you know
09:36I didn't understand that
09:38I always had a big chip on my shoulder
09:40but you know
09:41I hated confrontations
09:45he wasn't the loudmouth you see on TV
09:47he was very soft-spoken
09:49shy
09:50no I wasn't always this confident
09:52when did that
09:53when did that change
09:56on the weekends
09:57Florida Championship Wrestling
09:59would come on
09:59the TV back then
10:01I'd never seen
10:03anything like that
10:11I had no idea that this existed
10:13I was probably eight or nine years old
10:15when I first went in person
10:18and they had these great
10:19characters
10:20the conflict between good and bad
10:22how into it the fans were
10:24that were loyal dedicated fans
10:26I love it
10:27I love it
10:28it was this love and energy
10:30that they were all getting there
10:32I could feel it man
10:33and the one guy that really hooked me
10:35was the American dream Dusty Rose
10:37truly
10:38this whole rap
10:41real dissent
10:42the Razzmatazz
10:44my new Flandango
10:45I'm so quick
10:47I'm so fast
10:48Terry Falk
10:49is nothing but a power
10:50the energy
10:51would just drag you up
10:52out of any hole
10:53I went there
10:54and all through childhood
10:56I was hooked
11:02that's what I wanted to do
11:05I wanted to be a wrestler
11:11the problem was
11:12I was scared to death
11:13of those guys
11:15most of them
11:15were 300 pounds
11:16and over
11:17and they had teeth
11:17knocked out
11:18broken noses
11:19and cauliflower ears
11:20and it scared the bejesus
11:21out of me
11:22I believe professional wrestling
11:24was completely real
11:27I knew I couldn't do it
11:30I was real fat
11:32didn't take my shirt off ever
11:33when I went to the beach
11:35because I needed a bra
11:37pretty much
11:37I was living off
11:38you know
11:40Burger King
11:40and Snickers bars
11:43played Little League baseball
11:45but they could throw me out
11:46a second
11:47I was so fat and slow
11:50so I got into a bowling
11:53but then
11:54my life changed
11:56when I realized
11:57I could make money
11:57playing music
12:01Terry was a talented
12:03bass player
12:04he would have been
12:05Guns N' Roses
12:06like he's that level
12:09I learned that
12:10I liked being in front
12:11of the crowd
12:12and being on stage
12:14but my dad was
12:16upset that I had
12:17quit school
12:18and was running around
12:19in a rock and roll band
12:20and lifting weights
12:22like an idiot
12:24it led to me
12:25you know
12:26having a big blowout
12:27with my parents
12:28and getting kicked
12:28out of the house
12:32so a few years
12:33after high school
12:33we had a little following
12:35in North Tampa
12:36then all of a sudden
12:37these wrestlers
12:38are coming in the bar
12:40oh my gosh
12:41I'm on stage
12:41and here's these guys
12:42I'm scared to death
12:43of guys like
12:44superstar Billy Graham
12:46you know what a fist
12:47sandwich is
12:48I'm Brian Blair
12:49my first memory
12:51of meeting Terry
12:52was when he was
12:53playing bass guitar
12:55and he would stand
12:55out so much
12:56he was in these
12:56platform heels
12:57and had jewelry on
12:59and long blonde hair
13:00suntan
13:01big muscles
13:02I mean he was
13:03the show
13:04the music was good
13:05but he was like
13:06the show
13:07one of the things
13:08that shocked me
13:08more than anything
13:09was they weren't
13:10mean to me
13:12I didn't realize
13:13they were grooming me
13:17and they took me
13:18to all the matches
13:19it's like I'm getting
13:21free
13:25and then one of the
13:26biggest nights
13:27of my life
13:27changed
13:29everything
13:32we saw Steve
13:33at Fort Homer
13:34Hesterly Armory
13:36the bad guy
13:37was just
13:38waylaying his ass
13:40and the referee
13:41told him to knock
13:42it off
13:44let go of me
13:45ref
13:45and I remember
13:46he looked right
13:46down
13:47at Steve Kern
13:48I read his lips
13:50he said
13:51hit me
13:52hit me
13:53I went what
13:55and Steve hit him
13:56he goes again
13:57again
13:58and he made
13:59this comeback
13:59from underneath
14:00I was like
14:00what
14:02I just didn't
14:03believe it
14:04I was disillusioned
14:06for about
14:06two seconds
14:07and I got over it
14:08all of a sudden
14:09the door opens
14:11and I knew
14:11I didn't have to be
14:12a tough guy
14:13to get in the business
14:18they don't want to tell you
14:19that it's not real
14:21they want you to believe
14:23that it is
14:25but people don't realize
14:27what your body
14:29goes through
14:29you get your butt kicked
14:32in professional wrestling
14:43wow
14:45I remember all too well
14:48this is where Terry and I
14:50learned to wrestle
14:50it was called
14:52the dungeon
14:55I had made the decision
14:56to go for it
14:59and I just believed
15:01that I knew
15:01exactly what I had to do
15:03to run with the pack
15:05it was brutal
15:07brutal
15:07what you had to go through
15:09to get into the business
15:11the newer guys
15:12they have no clue
15:13they have no clue
15:15I spent a year
15:16in the gym
15:16training twice a day
15:17laying in the sun
15:18all day long
15:20and like a fool
15:22I told everybody
15:22I'm going to be a wrestler
15:24I'm going to be a wrestler
15:25that's the wrong thing to do
15:27one of the teachers
15:28put his forearm in my shin
15:30and grabbed my toe
15:31snapped
15:33and they broke his leg
15:35literally broke it
15:39I was living at a hotel room
15:41at the time
15:43and I still tried to come home
15:45whenever I could
15:45but I wasn't
15:46welcome there
15:47you know
15:49when my dad would go to work
15:50I'd run back to the house
15:53my mom would cook for me
15:54and take care of me
15:55and then I could like
15:55sleep in his bed
15:56and oh you got to get out of here
15:58and your dad's coming home
15:59so I'd take off
16:01you know
16:03my leg getting broke
16:04was minuscule
16:05compared to what he put me through
16:06so
16:08I had to go back
16:09there was no quitting from me
16:14since I got better
16:15I started showing up down there
16:19that made Terry want to try even harder
16:21like you're not going to keep me down
16:25he just was like a timex
16:27he took the licking and kept on ticking
16:31that's Terry
16:32that's the Hulkster
16:33that's him
16:39Terry's first match was against me
16:41he came out with a mask on
16:43as the Super Destroyer
16:45and he looked dorky
16:48Super Destroyer
16:53Terry Bolea did not complete his training
16:55and immediately become Hulk Hogan
16:57I mean you have to pay your dues
16:59and you have to develop your persona
17:03I'm a professional wrestling historian author
17:06and despite my youthful appearance
17:09I've been covering the sport of kings
17:11for more than 40 years
17:15Terry Bolea's youth and his size
17:18made you take notice
17:20he had genetic gifts
17:23and the Super Destroyer was masked
17:25and I believe that was deliberate
17:26I was getting beat everywhere
17:28but they didn't want people to see me getting beat
17:29I had to learn how to work in the ring
17:32this is someone who had the potential
17:35to be a notable
17:37but he wasn't there yet
17:39he was very green
17:40put the guy under a mask
17:42let him make his mistakes
17:44later on
17:45we can make him into a real character
17:56oh my god
17:57wrestling was very territorial back then
18:00like the American mob
18:04professional wrestling promoters
18:06formed an organization
18:07that would divide North America
18:10into territories
18:11you know you're supposed to stay
18:13six or seven months in each place
18:15and get your bags and move
18:17I was driving like
18:1925, 2600 miles a week
18:25I was finally
18:27you know trading
18:28a real life
18:30for a wrestling life
18:31rock and roll
18:33yes sir buddy
18:35so I went up to Memphis
18:40and I took off the mask
18:43and changed my name to be
18:45Terry Boulder
18:54I'm gonna have to buy a ticket
18:56to see my face brother
18:57coming in the ring
18:59full head of blonde hair
19:00largest arms in the world
19:01largest back in the world
19:03he's rock solid like a boulder
19:05so it's a good name

19:19right in the mat brother
19:20I'm gonna teach you
19:21a little bit of a wrestling lesson
19:22and a little respect
19:23to these good people around here
19:24I'm gonna put the super southern squeeze

19:34I mean seriously
19:38although he didn't exist yet
19:43the first time I saw Hulk
19:44I really wasn't in the wrestling business
19:47that happened years later
19:49come on in
19:52can you believe a WWE Hall of Famer
19:54sitting out here waiting all day
19:56for you guys to get here

20:03show him what a job about
20:05can you believe this
20:07Jimmy Hart
20:08manager of Hulk
20:10Hogan
20:11to the fans
20:12I was Hulk's manager
20:14wrestling manager
20:15not real real real real manager
20:17for God's sakes
20:18you've been wearing that outfit
20:18since 1983
20:19and you know what
20:20I'll always wear
20:21I'm done with you
20:22I'm done with you
20:23let's talk to Hulk
20:23oh my god
20:24oh my god
20:30if it wasn't for two people in my life
20:33Jerry Lawler and Hulk Hogan
20:35there'd be no Jimmy Hart
20:36trust me on that
20:37and I really mean that
20:39I went to high school
20:40with Jerry the King Lawler
20:41back in Memphis
20:42to the wrestling fans
20:44there was nobody bigger
20:45than Jerry the King Lawler
20:47Jerry the King Lawler
20:50I remember one night
20:51I went by the Coliseum
20:53to see the wrestling
20:53Jerry Lawler goes
20:55Jimmy come here
20:55come here
20:56I said what is it
20:57he goes
20:57you see that guy in the ring
20:58I went yeah
20:59what do you think
20:59I went wow
21:00man unbelievable
21:01what do they call him
21:02he said
21:02Jerry Boulder
21:04and I went
21:05god he looks great
21:06he goes
21:07you know
21:07he asked me to manage him
21:08I said
21:09you're gonna do it King
21:10he said
21:10are you kidding me
21:11this guy will never make a dime
21:12in this business
21:14he was not very good
21:15I'll be honest with you
21:19Hogan was very big
21:20of course
21:21everybody knew that
21:22but not on the same level
21:24as other wrestlers
21:26he was just kind of
21:27getting his feet wet
21:29started making $800 a week
21:31you needed to make
21:32at least $1,000
21:33to buy food and gas
21:35and pay for hotel rooms
21:36back then
21:39Hulk learned a lot
21:40from Lawler
21:40one thing I told him
21:42you need to take a punch
21:44you don't need to take a bump
21:45you just stand there
21:47and overcome that
21:48with your size
21:49and your strength
21:57he was super green
21:59I wrestled him in Atlanta
22:01quite a few times
22:02in that period
22:04about to enter the ring
22:05and the match was always
22:10about 30 seconds long
22:12maybe people out there
22:13don't realize

23:07of a comic book
23:10at that point
23:11all the promoters
23:12they said

24:31and nasty
24:31and mean
24:50as I was becoming

37:24of reckoning came
37:26the only way to really
37:28grow in the professional
37:29wrestling business
37:30is to make yourself

37:51because I remember
37:51listening to him
37:52kind of cut through a promo
37:54where does this redneck
37:55get off at
37:56where does he get off at
37:57he'd start getting creepy
37:58and weird shit
37:59you know
37:59and I'm like
38:00and for one moment
38:01I felt a power
38:03like I've never felt before
38:04a lightning bolt hit me
38:05had a great promo
38:07on a scale of 1 to 10
38:08Hulk Hogan was a 10
38:09if your Richter scale
38:10spins around
38:11three and four times
38:12it's not an earthquake
38:14it's just me
38:15pressing that big Elijah
38:16over my head
38:17in the sundown
38:18Hulk Hogan would talk
38:19for 59 seconds exactly
38:21and I was like
38:22cut
38:23that's a take
38:23I don't like to
38:24overthink things
38:25there's nothing to think
38:26about either
38:26you can dance
38:27and play the guitar
38:28and play the fiddle
38:29or you can't
38:31and at the age of 30
38:32Hogan is one of the most
38:34colorful good guys
38:35in the game
38:35I figured my entrance out
38:37I had the music
38:38I had it
38:39really really rocking
38:40if you watch
38:41any of the old
38:41Minnesota tapes
38:42but I didn't have
38:43the most important thing
38:46I needed a gimmick
38:48he was a super smart guy
38:50he could figure out
38:51the big picture
38:52more than other people
38:53could
38:53his wheels are turning
38:55and the character
38:57was never not on his mind
38:58whether it's a big guy
39:00fat guy
39:00hairy guy
39:01bodybuilder
39:02shape
39:02whatever
39:03a great gimmick
39:04needs to transcend
39:05the wrestler
39:05and patriotism
39:07back then
39:08meant everything
39:09USA!
39:10USA!
39:11USA!
39:12USA!
39:13USA!
39:13USA!
39:14USA!
39:15USA!
39:16USA!
39:16USA!
39:16It wasn't in the politics
39:18at the time
39:18but we're in a situation
39:21where our country
39:22was starting
39:23to make a comeback
39:24it is time for us
39:25to realize
39:26that we're too great
39:27a nation
39:27to limit ourselves
39:29to small dreams
39:31those who say
39:32that we're in a time
39:33when there are no heroes
39:36they just don't know
39:38where to look
39:38and the fans
39:39were so
39:40like USA
39:41all that USA
39:42and stuff
39:42of course
39:43he comes out
39:43with a flag
39:46you know
39:47it was just so
39:48pro-America
39:49that he couldn't
39:50even make a mistake
39:51honestly
39:59so it was all timing
40:00and being there
40:02with the sun

40:17when they look at me
40:18they say the man's
40:19not a phony
40:20when I bench press
