00:06As companies look for people who can evolve
00:09in an international world,
00:11education has become a strategic challenge.
00:14Preparing young people to make decisions,
00:17adapt and perform on a global scale
00:19is no longer an option.
00:21Today, we are here in Montreux, Switzerland
00:24to discover HIM Business School.
00:27Welcome!
00:40And to understand what makes this school unique,
00:44I'm now meeting with its dean, Claire Jolin.
00:47Hello Claire!
00:48Hello! Nice to meet you!
00:50It's so nice to meet you.
00:52Wow! It's so beautiful!
00:54I know, we are very lucky.
00:55It's a wonderful place to study and to live.
00:58Excuse me, but I can't wait to see everything.
01:01Yeah, didn't you have a look? Don't worry!
01:03So Claire, please tell us a bit more about HIM Business School.
01:06So HIM Business School is a school that is 40 years old, first of all.
01:12And it used to be a hotel school.
01:14But three years ago, we have decided to do a shift for business education.
01:20Why? Because we truly believe that wherever there is a client,
01:24there is a need for hospitality.
01:26So we decided to take our customer-focused knowledge
01:30and to embed that into the business curriculum.
01:34So, obviously, it must be different from other schools.
01:38I can see that.
01:39But why exactly and how?
01:41First of all, it's a boutique school.
01:44You know boutique hotel?
01:45It's a boutique school.
01:46We have 400 students on campus coming from 67 nationalities.
01:50The school is not just a place where you study.
01:52It's a place where you sleep, where you eat,
01:54because we provide accommodation, we provide food.
01:58You will see, the students are having lunch right now.
02:01We are providing health support, sports and leisure activities.
02:06So it's a full package.
02:08So it's a full experience, a full immersion into an international environment.
02:15And this is also, I think, what makes us very special.
02:18I see you're really interested in seeing more about that.
02:21Okay, so I'm going to show you around.
02:23Thank you so much.
02:24Come with me.
02:26This is one of the lounge area for the students
02:29when they can take coffee, work and relax.
02:31I want to go to school again.
02:33Me too.
02:33That's why I'm working here.
02:35I understand.
02:36So if you have to explain to a future student,
02:39what makes this school so special?
02:42Honestly, what would you say?
02:43I think I would love to tell you what type of students we are looking for.
02:47Okay.
02:47We are looking for students who want to be world ready.
02:51What does it mean?
02:52It means that students who are a bit tired with very long, long studies, you know,
02:57and they want to jump into the real world.
02:59And this is what we provide to them because we don't teach by the book.
03:03We don't teach with case study.
03:05We work with a lot of different companies, guest speaker, project.
03:09We work with Bulgari, Omar Piguet, Lamborghini, and Mondero Child.
03:14All these brands that are coming to meet our students to make them work on case.
03:19So it's very concrete.
03:21And I think this is really what makes also HAM unique is this approach.
03:25We take something that was from the hospitality education, which is very hands-on, very practical.
03:31And we put that in a curriculum.
03:33And actually, it's quite special, I think, because they complete three times six months internships during the program.
03:40Yes.
03:41So it helps them to be in the real world.
03:44Exactly.
03:45In fact, they have at the end of their bachelor, they have this famous first experience that everybody wants them
03:50to have,
03:51but nobody wants to give to them.
03:52So technically, in three years, they do six months of study, six months of internship.
03:57We really want our students to start their career after the bachelor.
04:02Of course, they can continue with the master.
04:04But we want to equip them to be able to start their career.
04:08Thank you so much.
04:09See you later.
04:09I would love to chat with some students, if you don't mind.
04:13No problem.
04:14They are right now outside enjoying the sun.
04:16So you can go there and see you later.
04:23Hello.
04:25So nice to meet you.
04:26Nice to meet you.
04:27Nice to meet you.
04:28Wow, you look gorgeous.
04:29Thank you.
04:30So do you.
04:31Thank you.
04:31I have so many questions for you.
04:33First of all, congratulations.
04:35Thank you.
04:36So it's very special here, because between classes, internships and the international environment,
04:43what helped you the most to grow during these years?
04:47What happened?
04:48You changed your mind, for example.
04:50I mean, everything can happen.
04:51I think, I mean, Asia, as you said, it's a very special school,
04:55because we do have the opportunity to go on internship.
04:58And I think learning by doing is not at all comparable to learning something theoretically.
05:04So that's something I've learned a lot from.
05:06But that's also allowed you to be in different international settings.
05:09And I think experiencing new cultures, but also meeting people from all over the world,
05:14allows you to really think and see different perspectives and allow you to develop your communication a lot better.
05:21Do you speak French now?
05:22A little bit.
05:24Soon.
05:26Me, I would say the people.
05:27The people.
05:28I went to Greece to make my first internship.
05:30The second one went to Brazil.
05:32It was a different continent.
05:33And it was such an experience every time.
05:36And I will do it every time.
05:38I will repeat again and again.
05:39That was the best things ever.
05:40And if you had to explain to a future student that's watching right now,
05:45what makes the school so special?
05:48What would you say?
05:49I think for me, there's three main things.
05:53One is the internships.
05:55I think learning by doing, as I already mentioned,
05:58just is so developing in comparison to just learning something in the classroom.
06:03Going out in the world and actually experiencing is just...
06:08You can't really compare that to classroom learning.
06:12The second thing is the international setting.
06:15Meeting people from different cultures, different backgrounds,
06:17and just widening your perspective is also invaluable.
06:22But the last thing, and for me that's something I think plays a huge role in your learning,
06:26is the teachers and the professors.
06:29I feel like everyone here is so...
06:31they really love what they're doing, they're passionate,
06:34but they also come from their industry background,
06:36so they're so knowledgeable and not really transparent in the learning of the classroom.
06:41I completely agree with her.
06:43I will more focus on the cultural that we had here.
06:47It was such a discovery of the amount of culture that we have all the time different.
06:52And again, like she said, I will bounce on her is that learning by doing.
06:57This internship gave me so much opportunities and it was amazing.
07:01It made me, we were ready.
07:03So now you are ready, you have your diploma, you're ready for the future.
07:07Yes.
07:08Let's take a moment to look back at this important moment,
07:11your graduation ceremony if you want.
07:13We also collected a short message from your parents.
07:17Have a look.
07:17Yeah, so as parents and knowing who Luke is, it's having to grow on an international level
07:25and be somewhere where she's not at home and comfortable growing and making these international contacts,
07:32but also the profile at the school was very fitting to who she is and who the potential she has
07:40to become.
07:41I was hoping that when Luke started this business school to get first and foremost some international experience,
07:52to network with other fellow students, because I think that's important also after the studies.
08:00She will have a great network of people that she got to know here at the school.
08:06And I also think the mix they have at the school, mixing academic studies with internships,
08:14it's a good blend of theory and practice, get some real world experience from the internship as well,
08:25in different countries and so on.
08:27So that has been a good mix.
08:31We are very proud of him, of course.
08:34We found a young man who was well developed, who was excited.
08:38He had a passion for him, very oriented solutions.
08:41and it brought him into a multicultural structure and international school.
08:48We feel ready for the future and we feel very confident.
08:55Wow!
08:56Oh my God!
08:57How do you feel?
08:58It feels surreal.
08:59I'm super grateful that my parents and family were here.
09:02I know they've been my biggest support throughout this, so without them I couldn't have done this.
09:08I'm so sad it's already finished, honestly.
09:11It was an experience that changed my life, to be honest.
09:16My favorite thing here was my summit at Munich, the One Young World Summit.
09:21Oh yes!
09:21You had something great last week, no?
09:23Yeah, I went to the EM Cup in Amsterdam.
09:25Wow!
09:26So before, it's a hospitality competition, but before that you prepare a white paper.
09:31But the main thing for the competition was just a lot of pitching and a lot of networking and meeting
09:37new people.
09:37And that's something you don't get to experience at other schools.
09:40You know what? I really wish you the best.
09:42Thank you very much.
09:44Thank you so much.
09:44Thank you.
09:44You're amazing. Thank you.
09:45Thank you very much.
09:46Bye-bye.
09:46Bye.
09:53You found me!
09:54Yes!
09:55How did you go with the students?
09:57Oh, perfectly.
09:58They're so nice and smart, obviously.
10:00Of course, they're my students, of course.
10:02Well, I asked you to come here because I think, look at the view, gives you a good feeling of
10:08what it is to study here at H&M Business School.
10:11We are in Montreux right now and it's a Swiss Riviera and it's known to be one of the sunniest
10:18places in Switzerland.
10:20But it's also Switzerland in a nutshell because you have the lake, but you can take the train and within
10:2420 minutes you have the skiing resort.
10:26It's so peaceful and calming.
10:28And safe.
10:30And safe.
10:30Which is also one of the reasons the international students, they like to come here and the parents, they like
10:35also to send their kids here because Switzerland is stable.
10:39So when you are an international student and you bet on three years for your studies, you want to make
10:44sure that you are in a safe environment and, of course, surrounded by a beautiful landscape.
10:49Absolutely.
10:50I understand that as a mother.
10:52So I have a few questions more.
10:55The students graduate with an American diploma.
10:57Yeah.
10:58Wow, that's a strong professional experience.
11:01Yeah, it's very interesting for the students to come to Switzerland and to get out with an American bachelor.
11:06We are working with Northwood University and we are implementing their curriculum here in Switzerland.
11:12In fact, they have a dual qualification.
11:13They will have a Swiss Federal Diploma in Business Administration.
11:16So one from Switzerland and one from the US will be a bachelor.
11:21Honestly, I'm so impressed.
11:23Wow.
11:24I need to leave you, Karine, because I have some students who are organizing an event right now.
11:29It's a well at work summit.
11:30It's part of the exam.
11:31But you know, we don't teach by theory.
11:33We don't do exam theoretical.
11:35So they have the event.
11:36I need to go.
11:36I'm already late.
11:37So sorry, but please enjoy.
11:39Oh, I will.
11:40Thank you so much for everything.
11:41Thank you.
11:41See you very soon.
11:42Bye bye.
11:43Bye bye.
11:44And as you know, all the good things come to an end.
11:48Preparing students for the future is about more than a diploma.
11:52It's about giving them the skills, the mindset and the confidence to succeed in a global environment.
11:58Here in Montreux, HIM Business School focuses on experience, international exposure and excellence
12:05to prepare students for the professional world.
12:07See you soon for another episode on business as you say on timefriends.fr.
