The Mercury asks people in Kiama about their thoughts of the suggested merger of Kiama and Shellharbour councils.
Transcript
00:00Rick, Kiama Council has suggested Shell Harbour merge with Kiama.
00:04What are your thoughts on that?
00:05Yeah, great idea.
00:07Any reasons for that?
00:08Yeah, more funding.
00:11Probably some brighter heads between the two parties
00:14might be able to solve their financial problems.
00:17I think that could work because they're definitely not doing a very good job at the moment.
00:23I don't think they let us know enough about what's going on
00:27so maybe if we merge it might help financially.
00:32It could be a great idea but I guess it could be a bad one too.
00:37I think it all really depends on how the merger would be conducted
00:42and I guess there's many things to consider
00:45like the coordination of the future division of labour,
00:50the division of and the redistribution of assets and liabilities
00:55and services and facilities
00:58and if the councils are to merge I guess it just depends on the merger being
01:03really well planned and cohesive so it's a smooth transition.
01:08My question is why?
01:10Why are they doing that?
01:13I mean I think Kiama needs to actually start looking at what they do locally
01:18as opposed to merging.
01:19Unless they're going to make it better then I don't see why.
01:21I think it's a good idea if you can streamline the DA process
01:25so that we can start to get a few more homes approved
01:28and just get everything moved through a bit quicker, combine their skills.
01:33I will do that again.
01:33I don't want to lose.
01:34I'm not sure if you have a special job.
01:38You're probably going to lose.
01:38I will be the only one.
01:39You should know.
01:39How are you doing?
