00:51I'm a bit of a nomad, so I've lived all over the world,
00:54and I've always had this passion for interior design,
00:56and I feel like now it's my time to do it for real.

00:59I love the experience that a space can give you,
01:02so I really want to bring that into the competition.

04:05You better grab your bucket and spade and also a couple of paintbrushes because you're heading
04:10to the seaside.
04:11You're each going to have a beach hut you need to totally transform.

04:19The beach huts are situated on Dorset's Jurassic Coast with enviable views of the Isle of Wight.
04:25The huts are available for day trippers to rent, but it's no holiday for our designers
04:30as they'll be turning these basic wooden huts into stylish spaces.
04:33And that's not all.
04:35I would like you to introduce yourself to me by showing me your signature style.
04:41But remember the location and through all of the challenges, I would really like to see evidence
04:47that you've considered sustainability.
04:49You have been told.
04:53And joining Michelle on the beach will be the guru of glamorous whimsy, Jonathan Adler.

05:29Tiny beach huts like these have been brightening up the sandy shores of Avon Beach in Mudderford
05:34since the 1930s.

05:40It's actually nearly the width of me, which is not very big.
05:46They're the perfect blank canvas for our designers to express their signature style.

06:28So we've got like a little antique beach vibe going on from like the old tents that they used
06:33to have on the beach.
06:33I've got like a little few history pieces going there.
06:36We're also gonna try and get some royal stuff in here, British flags.

06:44I am 28 and I'm from the West Midlands.
06:46My style is contemporary and Victorian.
06:49My bedroom definitely expresses my signature style.
06:53When my girlfriend first saw my bedroom, I think she was more horrified not knowing where
06:58to look because there is a lot of portraits in here.
07:01What I like about the royal family is just the pomp and all of the glamour and it's just wonderful.
07:09I don't want anyone to walk into a room and go, this is boring because that is my worst nightmare.
07:15I've got a couple of recycled planters and we're just pressing them together now just to make this ball shape.
07:21We're gonna run some lines down it after, just make that beach ball effect.
07:24And then we'll put a antique top on it and it's gonna be a cool little quirky coffee table by
07:29the end of it, hopefully.
07:32Ben's beach ball coffee table is one of several statement pieces in his hut,
07:37alongside a surfboard bench and a changing area created from a salvaged door.
07:42His colour palette is daring, with reds, yellows, greens and blues splashed across his furniture
07:48and most strikingly, his ceiling.

07:56It's a little bit different, hasn't it?

07:59These are the colours that I'm also using on the beach ball as well.

08:04I'm very happy with those.
08:05So the theme is nostalgic adventure.
08:08And then mounted on this wall, I've got this toy boat that's about this big.
08:12It's beautiful.

08:18My signature style is graphic colourful.
08:21I found it quite easy to bring my signature style in because I feel like beach huts are meant to
08:26be colourful.

08:30Despite my weird accent, I'm currently living in Brighton.
08:34After A-levels, I moved to Australia and then since then I've been travelling and living out of a backpack
08:39or a van or both.
08:41I love the challenge of designing small spaces, so I feel like that's really my niche.
08:46Caravans, teepees, vans, little fisherman's shack in Tasmania, that was fun.
08:52Give me a big space and I'm going to panic.

08:59Being at the beach, a small space, bright colours, it feels like this first challenge that was made for me.

09:15My whole concept for this is to create a little jewel box effect.
09:19You could have romantic dinners here or you can bring the whole family.
09:22The ceiling is empire red and the walls and the archway are called sand haven and the back wall is
09:29in a powder blue.
09:31Just feel like those colours really complement each other.
09:33They kind of set each other off, but they don't feel too overwhelming.
09:37I always say I have the too much gene, which just means that I cannot stop doing creative things.
09:44I'm a professional dancer and a choreographer.
09:47As soon as I had the chance to design my own space, I feel like I unlocked something within me
09:52that just made me so excited.
09:54My design style is modern romantic, very neutral, very calming, but with pops of colour and whimsy and things that
10:01you don't expect.
10:02I want to win!
10:04I mean, you don't enter a competition to not want to win.
10:10The ceiling is very pink at the moment.
10:13I wanted to go for a bright, rich red and it's looking fuchsia, so I'm hoping after a couple of
10:23coats it will look better.

10:29So this is going to be the design.
10:321970 sailboat, big like Americana feel.
10:34We're going to have a surfboard that's going to go along the ceiling so when you walk into the space
10:38your eye line's going to get drawn down towards the big bonkett seat and at the back.
10:42Totally rad.
10:43And it just means that when you're sat here, all you're looking at is that perfect view outside.
10:48I mean, look at that.

10:51My design style is retro-modern.
10:53Three words, I guess you could say, is not overworked.
10:56I love interior design because it's a bit similar to my job as a graphic designer, but it's a way
11:01that you can get things off of the screen and everything is completely tangible.
11:05Part of my job consists of designing artwork for musicians from Stormzy, Sam Fender to Kian Duckrock, which I really,
11:12really enjoy.
11:13To impress Michelle, I want to create a lot of impact in a space, but I also don't want to
11:18overdo it at the same time.
11:20Color-wise, we've gone for pure brilliant white, which most people will hate, but when the sun comes in, it
11:27will have like a nice bit of reflection and it shouldn't make the white too white.
11:33These beach huts might be small.
11:35Already feeling spacious, seeing the vision, like it.
11:40But they've got many jobs to do as beach goers need somewhere to rest.
11:45It's really nice down here.
11:47Eat, change and stash their picnic essentials.

11:54One designer who's making the most of every inch is Sophie from Staffordshire.
11:58This is my underfloor storage.
12:02My beach hut is basically a little rock and roll haven.
12:07I thought about putting in a false floor in the back half because it would feel more like a sunken
12:13conversation pit rather than everything just being on the same level.
12:16Quite different to a regular beach hut.
12:18A very cool space is what I'm aiming for.
12:22I think the 70s music taste that I have has definitely influenced my design style and I am obsessed with
12:31animal prints.
12:32More is more is more.
12:33I am a specialist painter.
12:35I did a zebra print ceiling for someone recently which was quite interesting.
12:39I helped my husband design his barbershop with a pirate theme.
12:43I love designing and to be able to do that full time would just be awesome.
12:51So I'm painting my zebra stripes onto the floor now.
12:55Prints in general are rock and roll, especially animal prints.
12:58Who doesn't love a bit of zebra prints?
13:02Whilst most of the beach huts are swiftly changing.

13:11Last thing I want to do is knock you out on the first day of the job.
13:15As she's chosen to painstakingly clad her walls and ceiling first.
13:21These planks were being ripped out a Georgian home.
13:24I love making something that looks a bit like this at the moment and making it look totally different.

13:32When I was told I was going to be on Interior Design Masters, I think I cried.
13:36I can't say I weed a little bit. That would be a bit rude, wouldn't it?
13:40My name is Kate and I am from Birmingham.
13:43I am an interior content creator.
13:45I think people would like to follow me for the hacks that I do.
13:48I love interior design because I think it shows off your personality, but on your walls of your home.
13:54I spent so long bringing my kids up and now I just feel like it's my time.

14:11So my inspiration for the beach hut is I've got this picture of me and my sister
14:15and these little knitted yellow jumpers that my mum made.
14:18So the whole of the bottom of the beach hut is going to be yellow.
14:21I've got a beautiful marble top kitchen side going in.
14:24Lots of storage.
14:25But my concerns are the cladding because there's a lot to do.

16:58I've got to be kind of like an homage to the 1950s when sites like this used to be really,

17:10Growing up in South London really felt like an idyllic childhood.
17:14Me and my partner are now happily living here in my family home.
17:18I've redesigned every room, but there are still some homages to those booked spaces.
17:23So, our Chesterfield sofas were something that was really aspirational for my parents.
17:27I couldn't bear to get rid of it.
17:29So, they sit prior to place in our living room.
17:32I would describe my design style as modern nostalgia.
17:35I would be lying if I said I haven't daydreamed hearing Michelle say in my name that I'm the
17:38winner of Tour Design Masters 2026.
17:43Ajit's signature earthy tones from his home are reflected in his beach hut.
17:48As well as partitioning off the changing area,
17:50he's left room for a generous and moveable dining and seating build
17:54and styling with bamboo and the tan accessories.
17:58He's creating a calm and natural feel to his 50s beach hut.
18:02And he's also adding a clever touch so the sea view can be enjoyed from every angle.

18:09I think my favourite piece has to be the set of mirrors that are on my partition wall.
18:15I didn't want to sacrifice the amazing view that you can see here,

18:33For my beach hut design, I've gone for a mid-century Miami Beach Club.
18:37But I think my big statement is my roof.
18:41I've got some striped fabric draped from the ceiling and that is to create and mimic the sort of effect
18:46of a deck chair and also create a kind of,
18:48like I said, a cabana sort of feeling.
18:50A five, six, seven, eight, one, two, three, five.
18:53I'm a manager at a performing arts school for children.
18:56My signature style is mid-century with a bit of a twist.
19:01I like a bold statement, a pattern.
19:04So I live here with my husband.
19:06We bought this flat together in 2020.
19:08I loved being able to come in and really just hit it with a load of colour, pattern, whatever.
19:15I want to pursue a career in interior design and that is for sure.
19:19So, changing screen is what I wanted to chat about.

20:41When it comes to her kitchen, artist Emily isn't letting anything go to waste.

20:47My way of working is quite unconventional.
20:49We want to make sure that we're using every bit that we can.
20:52You can give me a bin bag of stuff and I'll turn it into something.

20:58I'm an artist and a football coach based in London.
21:01My design style is modern contemporary, which I guess just means, you know, modern and contemporary.
21:07No, I don't know what.

21:09Block colours, strong lines, and the contemporary use of materials.
21:14I make a range of things, all specialising in using paper mache.
21:19I've made a paper mache bed, football shirts, lamps, stools, shoes long.
21:25I love it.
21:26Going into the competition is really terrifying.
21:28I've just got to, you know, breathe.
21:33We'll get it all varnished so it's like glossy and reflecting the view and stuff.
21:37My kitchenette is at the back, but I've moved it to the front to add a bit of a partition.
21:43We've got to look at that view if you're making like a salad or something like that.
21:49Emily's kitchen island will be placed across the doorway of a beach hut,
21:53which will be painted in coastal tones like terracotta and sea blues.
21:58Her bonkette seating will be tucked at the back of a beach hut
22:01and she'll show off her artistic skills with handcrafted paper mache mirrors,
22:06tables and lamps and her kitchen island will be topped with a mosaic made of smashed slate.

22:17That was quite easy.

22:19So what's the inspiration for all these tiles being smashed?
22:23Because I'm reflecting a lot of the sea,
22:25I wanted to incorporate a few of the rocks and the stones and the natural organic elements of the beach.

22:32I think it's going to be really beautiful.
22:33Let's see how it turns out.
22:35And also, you're like me, you've got a footballing link.
22:38I do have a footballing link.
22:40Because, you know, my dad's a football manager.
22:42Yeah, I do know this and he used to work for Tottenham Hotsford, which I work for.

22:46I was at Tottenham the other day.

23:09I've got to get it all the way up there.
23:12The barrel is a repurposed piece.
23:14It's been judged up a little bit and we've cut a hole in the side of it
23:19because it is going to be a sink.
23:21It wasn't cheap, but it's my main reference to the area
23:24because it's a hint towards all the smuggling history of the town.

23:35Leah's kitchen design is taking her beach hut further afield.
23:38On the back wall, we've got this gorgeous peel-and-stick wallpaper
23:42which has a kind of Mediterranean Amalfi feel.
23:45When we got this brief, I instantly took a picture of me and my nonna
23:50in her hometown in Italy.
23:52I just wanted to make something that she would be proud of
23:54and want to set in.
23:57I grew up in a very typical Scottish-Italian family.
24:02We had a family chip shop where I worked.
24:05That was chaos.
24:07My design style is botanical maximalist.
24:11So I use loads of dry flowers in my designs.
24:14They just kind of add a bit of a wow factor.
24:16I have just quit my job of nine years in retail
24:20to now pursue a job in interior design.
24:22So there would be nothing more than winning
24:25and becoming an actual interior designer.
24:29Full stop.

24:33So I'm just wood-staining some old scaffolding boards
24:37I got for free from a local theatre.
24:40People pay a lot of money for shelves to look like this
24:43and it's super easy to do yourself
24:44and it should tie in really nicely
24:46like a really old-school Italian kitchen.
24:51Leah's up-cycled shelving will sit at the back
24:54of her Almalfi-inspired kachina
24:56with zesty lemon wallpaper,
24:59a sunny blue and yellow palette
25:00and a ceiling covered in foliage,
25:03dried flowers and fairy lights.
25:05Just like her nonna's kitchen, it's a space for sharing.

25:11and a vintage walnut sideboard

25:40and the top shelves.

25:48Might be a little bit controversial going for new
25:51or shop-bought, but if you buy things that are old,

39:14One of the things that's really important to me in any design is that it is of the location.
39:21And then, of course, being sustainable as well as a chance to be really resourceful.
39:24It's showing me how they can be clever without just shopping.
39:28Ultimately, the key to success as a designer is being able to deliver great design that also communicates your personality.
39:35And so I hope that their personality comes through in beautifully designed, perfectly functional beach huts today.
39:47I have definitely fulfilled my design vision. None of it feels new. It feels like it's always been like that.

45:32Oh, and I love the minty green colour, but it's a set of four camping stools and a fold away

45:38It's very much like click, click, bought, done.

54:31Just because I trained as a ceramicist, but then I couldn't afford the clay and the firing,
54:35so then I moved to newspaper.
54:37I am a ceramicist turned interior designer.
54:41So, like, I see you.
54:42And your space was fascinating.
54:44It was.
54:45It was like...
54:47I'm sorry if it was terrible.
54:49It was weird, but weird is great.
54:51But you do need to work on space design.
54:55When I sat down on the sofa, I've got a hulking bit of furniture that completely blocked my view.
54:59You really need to understand that when you're in that space, why am I here?
55:03I'm here to look at the sea.
55:05But on a positive note, you can learn that, but you can't learn originality and creativity.
55:11So, Kate, we loved your outside set-up.
55:14The table setting out front was, like, whimsical and colourful, and then the mood inside got a little less fun.
55:21The space didn't cohere.
55:23And I think one of the key things I would say to everyone is you start with one big idea,
55:27which is what you gave us outside, and then everything else feeds into that.

55:34Teo, how would you describe your signature style?
55:37Kind of retro-modern, kind of bringing in older pieces and then creating some contrast.
55:41I'm intrigued that you said that part of your style is bringing old and new together, because it looked like
55:46everything was new.
55:47Bringing in the old things, I kind of focused on that surfboard on the ceiling.
55:52So, do you feel there was something missing from yours?
55:54Yeah, I definitely think there was.
55:55When I walked in and I'd finished and I looked at everybody else's, I was like, that final finesse wasn't
55:59there.
55:59I wanted a lot more zhush.
56:02Yeah.
56:03You know, like, your cushions could have been fluffy.
56:05Yeah.
56:05And then there needs to sort of be a lot of, like, soft, frilly things about.
56:10That kind of top layer.
56:12I totally get all three of you.
56:16So we want ideas, we want the ambition.
56:19And so I think on that basis...
