In a world of excessive screen-time, it seems the great outdoors can be just as addictive. Visits to New South Wales national parks have hit an all-time record of 65 million. And the government thinks that number could grow as people search for a big day out that won't break the budget.

00:02Blue Mountains National Park, the state's most popular with almost 8 million visits
00:07last year and with views like these, it's not hard to see why.
00:11There's plenty of places where it's totally free for a picnic, it's cheap to take the
00:15family.
00:15The Royal National Park, south of Sydney, was next on the list with almost 5 million
00:20visits.
00:21Close behind in third, Keringi Chase in the north with stunning views over pit water and
00:26out to the Pacific.
00:27Dan Gee's been running hiking tours through national parks for more than a decade.
00:32He's noticed a shift in demographics.
00:35International has always been coming but the local interest has definitely boomed a lot.
00:41While the latest figures show there's no shortage of interest in national parks, the government's
00:45hoping to attract a different kind of visitor and it wants the private sector to help.
00:50It's currently seeking proposals for so-called supported camping whereby private operators
00:55could set up tents and caravans and provide food for those who want to lighten their load.
01:00For some people being able to carry all your own water, all of your own food and a tent
01:04on your back is just not realistic.
01:06They shouldn't do it.
01:07I think the numbers really give the government enormous confidence to say look, we don't need
01:12to go down that path.
01:14People are coming.
01:15The locals will be watching the government's every move.
01:18Do you dare.
01:18Please.
01:19I say they won't need you.
01:20There is no place.
01:20The胡椒 тел.
01:20You can see all these things.
