00:00Taking a trip to a national park has a lot to offer if you're looking for something off the beaten path that's also easier on the wallet.
00:10As CNN reports, here are some of the least visited U.S. national parks, according to visitation figures in 2022 released by the National Park Service.
00:19California's Pinnacles National Park, south of San Jose, is noted for its caves and rock spires formed from volcanic eruptions some 23 million years ago.
00:30Offering hikers 30 miles worth of trails, it counted just over 275,000 recreation visits in 2022.
00:38For reference, the most crowded, Great Smoky Mountains National Park counted roughly 13 million.
00:44About as far north as you can get in the American Midwest are Minnesota's Voyagers National Park and Michigan's Isle Royale, an isolated archipelago in Lake Superior, accessible only by ferry or seaplane.
00:57Water is the main draw at Voyagers, with many of its acres spread out across four large lakes and over 500 islands.
01:05On the East Coast, South Carolina's Congaree National Park is a place defined by regular floodwaters and wildfires,
01:12offering visitors plenty to explore by canoe or kayak.
01:16An extensive fossil reef and 80 miles of hiking trails around the four tallest peaks in Texas
01:22await those who visit Guadalupe Mountains National Park, whose visitors number just shy of 220,000.
01:29No surprise, Alaska is home to five of the parks on the list, mainly because they are so hard to reach.
01:37But to visit the park with the honor of the thinnest crowds, you'll have to make quite the journey.
01:43Stretching over three islands in the South Pacific, the National Park of American Samoa lies almost 5,000 miles away from the U.S. mainland,
01:51and counted just under 2,000 visits in 2022.
