Maysoon starts like a quiet Berlin relationship mess. Then Tobi drops the “small talk” after a beach day: he’s having an affair. Cute. Suddenly the family routine Maysoon built with her partner and their two children starts collapsing in real time. She’s an Egyptian archaeologist working as a museum guide, so she’s basically trained to explain the past to other people. The problem is, her own present refuses to stay historical. On top of betrayal and the mess that comes with a looming divorce, there’s the most unromantic villain of all: bureaucracy. Her passport is expiring, and that turns personal turmoil into an actual deadline. The Arab Spring memories and their political weight come roaring back at the worst possible moment. In a city that once sold freedom hard, Maysoon has to ask the uncomfortable question: what if society already moved on without her?

Maysoon wirkt erst mal wie die Sorte Berliner Alltagsdrama, die man nach dem Kaffee wegwischt. Bis Tobi nach einem harmlosen Strandausflug mit der Bombe kommt. Affäre. Und plötzlich zerbricht diese mühsam stabile Familienstory, in der die Welt noch halbwegs planbar war. Maysoon, ägyptische Archäologin und Museumsführerin, steht da und schaut zu, wie ihr bürgerliches Leben in Zeitlupe auseinanderfällt. Als wäre das nicht genug, läuft ihr Reisepass ab. Bürokratie macht daraus kein Drama, sondern eine Akte mit Konsequenzen. Scheidung, drohende Abschiebung, und parallel taucht die politisch aufgeladene Vergangenheit der Arabischen Frühlingstage wieder auf. Berlin, diese Stadt mit großen Freiheitsversprechen, tut dann so, als wäre Maysoon optional.
