Science and Technology Secretary Liz Kendall said it was wrong that ministers were not informed Peter Mandelson had failed security vetting, adding the Prime Minister would have rescinded his appointment as US Ambassador had he known.

00:17the beginning and it was also wrong because ministers made repeated
00:22statements to the media and in Parliament and I think that is why Sir
00:27Ollie Robbins lost the confidence of the Prime Minister and the Foreign Secretary.
00:31If the Prime Minister had known that UK security vetting had not cleared Peter
00:38Mandelson he would have rescinded that appointment.
