“The Moment” wears the mockumentary mask and immediately proves it has no patience for clean success stories. Charli xcx just launched the phenomenon “BRAT SUMMER,” and now the world treats her like she can’t possibly mess up. Great. Then the pressure shows up in two places. Outside, everyone wants a repeat performance. Inside, her own standards start acting like an unpaid manager.

What follows is basically the messy math of fame right before an arena-tour debut: rehearsals that feel like therapy with a strobe light, industry talk that sounds supportive until it doesn’t, and that very specific panic of being “the moment” while realizing the moment doesn’t care about your sleep schedule.

Aidan Zamiri has already worked with big names in pop, so the film doesn’t go for cheesy satire. It’s sharper than that. More uncomfortable. More fun if you’ve ever watched your own hype turn into homework.

Charli xcx hat gerade mit „BRAT SUMMER“ einen Kulturmoment losgetreten und merkt dann: Jetzt kommen die Erwartungen im Rudel. Von außen wird alles schon vor der ersten Probe gefeiert. Von innen macht der Perfektionismus die Endlosschleife. Und weil das Musikgeschäft gern so tut, als wäre Druck Motivation, zeigt der Film ziemlich trocken, wie schnell aus „Showtime“ Kopfkino wird.

Regisseur Aidan Zamiri kennt die Pop-Welt nicht nur aus dem Off. Das merkt man daran, wie nah er dran bleibt: Interviews, Soundcheck und diese kleinen Momente, in denen man merkt, dass man gerade nicht „ready“ ist, sondern nur funktioniert. Für Fans von Reality-Overkill und ehrlicher Nervosität genau richtig, fürs Gemüt nicht immer.
