00:00Mexican President Claudia Sheinbaum announced Saturday at the Fourth Summit in Defense of Democracy in Barcelona, Spain,
00:07that she will propose a formal declaration opposing any military intervention in Cuba.
00:12Sheinbaum made her call at the opening session of the gathering and before a dozen progressive leaders,
00:18including the presidents of Colombia, South Africa and Uruguay.
00:22The Mexican leader urged to resort to a dialogue and peace or confrontation
00:26and weren't against any definition of freedom that implies submission to external interests
00:32or reduces sovereign nations to the status of modern colonies.
00:36She also affirmed that liberty holds no meaning without social justice, sovereignty and the dignity of peoples.
00:43A meeting was convened by Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sánchez and Brazilian President Luis Ignacio Lula da Silva.
00:54I would like to propose a statement opposing military intervention in Cuba so that dialogue and peace may prevail.
01:02I would also like to extend an invitation for Mexico to host the next summit where we can discuss an
01:08economy centered on well-being
01:10and a democracy that responds to the genuine needs of the people.
01:15In addition, the Mexican president proposed to the summit participants an initiative to allocate 10% of global arms spending
01:22toward reforestation projects.
01:27I would therefore like to put forward a specific proposal that I put forward at the D20,
01:33a simple proposal based on a new vision for the United Nations to allocate 10% of global spending on
01:41arms,
01:41which amounts to billions of dollars,
01:43to funding a global program that enables millions of people to reforest millions of hectares every year.
01:51Instead of sowing the seeds of war, let us sow the seeds of peace, let us sow the seeds of
01:56life.
