A brief video from the London International Palestinian Prisoners Day
protest outside Downing street.
Transcript
00:02When the British first introduced death by hanging in the 1920s in Palestine, we did not stop defending our people
00:11and our land.
00:12We organized one of the greatest uprisings that the British Empire ever witnessed in 36-39.
00:22And in the 1920s, Ibrahim Tuqan, one of the most famous Palestinian poets, immortalized that resistance of the earliest political
00:31prisoners in his poem, The Red Cheese Day.
00:35People might know it as the really famous song, Mancision Atka.
00:38It recounted the death of three revolutionaries, Fuad Hijazi, Mohamed Jamjul, and Atta Ziyad, who were set to be executed
00:48by the British in three consecutive hours in Atka prison.
00:54Each execution was supposed to be separated so that each group would be fragmented into an individual act of mourning.
01:03But what the Empire did not anticipate is that these three men, these three revolutionaries, jostled each other.
01:11They fought to be hung before their comrades.
01:16They began to teach us the glorious lesson of the Palestinian prisoner's struggle, unity, even in the face of the
01:25news.
01:26That is why we say that prisoners are the compass of a struggle.
01:37Because this unity, in the face of death and execution, is what resistance across our region is attempting to do.
01:45To connect our shared struggles against Zionism and imperialism.
01:50To refuse the separation of our people.
01:55They are refusing the separation of our people and they are refusing scheduled death.
02:01They are racing towards the hour of liberation.
02:05They will never capitulate or negotiate for crimes like the reactionary regimes that rule many countries in our region.
02:13They hold on to the land and they break the schedule of our enemies.
02:19And despite the enemies' best efforts to fragment us, thousands of people in Gaza that have witnessed almost three years
02:27of genocide
02:28came out on the streets to protest the execution bill.
02:38And despite the murderous and brutal attacks on Lebanon, the people of Lebanon remain steadfast, even in the south.
02:46The people of Iran refuse to abandon the people of Lebanon and the people of Palestine, despite facing a brutal
02:53attack on their country.
02:57We, as people of conscience, as people in the diaspora, will never abandon our prisoners.
03:05No matter how many decades pass after the Prisoner's Day commemoration, we will never, ever give up on our prisoners.
03:12And our prisoners will never be defeated, no matter what they are subjected to in prison.
03:23Free your prisoners, free Palestine, free your people, free them out.
03:33Free, free, Palestine!
03:36Free, free, Palestine!

03:46From the river to the sea, Palestine will be free!
03:50This is why international protests like this are so important.
03:55Because we know that the public is horrified by Israel's crimes against the Palestinian people.
04:03And we know, too, that we must not be silenced.
04:13We must continue to build support for boycott, divestment and sanctions.
04:19We must continue to defend and to exercise our right to protest, just as we are doing here tonight.
04:31And most crucially, as lawyers have said, we must do so on the 16th of May, when we need every
04:39single person to be out on the streets for Nakba Day, to march with us and to stand in defiance
04:48of attempts by Tommy Robinson and his far-right thugs to drive the movement for Palestine from the streets.
04:57Never will we allow that to happen!
05:03So we must not stop.
05:06We cannot stop fighting.
05:08We must continue to demand an end to Israel's system of apartheid.
05:13A complete end to all armed sales, to Israel and justice.
05:18Not just for Palestinian prisoners, but for all of the Palestinian people.
