Myanmar's military-led government will free more than 4,300 prisoners in an amnesty, including foreigners, as rights groups say thousands remain detained since the 2021 coup. #AWANIinternational

00:00Myanmar's President Min Ong Leung has approved amnesty for 4,335 prisoners,
00:07the third such measure introduced in the country within the past six months.
00:11Among those set to be released are 179 foreign nationals
00:14set to be deported after coming out from detention.
00:19The announcement had also confirmed a series of sentence reductions,
00:23including the commutation of death sentences to life imprisonment
00:27and shorter terms for other convicted prisoners.
00:30The Assistance Association for Political Prisoners had reported
00:34that more than 30,000 people had been detained on political charges
00:38since the 2021 military coup.
00:41Those detained included former leader Aung San Suu Kyi
00:44along with activists, protesters and members of anti-hunta militias
00:48who had opposed military rule.
00:51Prior to being the President of Myanmar, Min Ong Leung was the Chief of the Hunta.
