Myanmar junta releases over 7,000 prisoners for Buddhist Lent

In Yangon, families gather outside Insein prison as Myanmar's junta released more than 7,000 individuals to observe Buddhist Lent. Buses transported the released prisoners away from the prison. Additionally, Aung San Suu Kyi, the ousted civilian leader, had her 33-year prison sentence reduced by six years through a partial pardon. The junta took this action while facing challenges in suppressing the violent resistance against its rule. Myanmar often grants amnesty to thousands of prisoners on special Buddhist dates or holidays.
