00:05It is Friday, it's 5.52pm, and it is the end of the first week with my new clients, Alistair
00:13and Margot Hartnell.
00:14They say they're coming here as the last roll of the dice for them. They had been on the cusp
00:19of getting a divorce.
00:21Walk forward. Turn right. Turn right! Turn left. No, no, wait. No, sorry. That's my right.
00:27For God's sake, Alistair! Love has been replaced by hostility. You're useless at this! That's enough!
00:35Sorry, darling. All trust has gone. For sake! Sorry. Sorry!
00:39It's okay. It's okay. Compounded by the fact that they seem unable to communicate in a meaningful and a reciprocal
00:46way.
00:46I feel unheard when I talk to you about how I'm feeling.
00:53Well, often, when you do want to talk, I've got work on my mind, and that's important, too.
01:03So it's just a case of bad timing, that's all.
01:06Their marriage doesn't make sense to them anymore.
01:09Over the course of the coming weeks, I'd like to see if we can retrace the steps that led to
01:14this situation,
01:15and see if we can work out how they got here.
01:18Next, we have Luke and Stacey Warber.
01:22I believe the fault lines don't run as deep with them.
01:25I'm grateful for how patient you are,
01:28and that you're here with me now, doing this,
01:33because I know I'm not giving you what you need.
01:36That's so sweet, babe.
01:38On the surface, they have a loving marriage,
01:41but now can we try taking each other's hands, please,
01:46and maintaining that same eye contact?
01:49By their own admission, there are significant intimacy issues.
01:52Why can't you do this?
01:56I'm sorry.
01:58I'm sorry, sorry. Could I take five?
02:00It's okay. Of course.
02:02It's okay, Luke.
02:05Take your time.
02:06I mean...
02:07It's okay.
02:08It's all part of the process.
02:11It's Friday.
02:12It's the beginning of the weekend now,
02:14but Monday will be a big day.
02:16I have exciting plans.
02:18I think that there could be a real breakthrough.
02:23Hello.
02:24Darling.
02:27Mine's good.
02:29This looks nice, doesn't it?
02:31Yeah.
02:31Hi, everyone.
02:33Hi.
02:33I just wanted to say thank you very much
02:36for all your hard work
02:37and your commitment this week.
02:39You should be very proud of yourselves.
02:42There's more for us to do next week,
02:45but for now, enjoy your evening.
02:50Right, bon appetit.
02:52Cheers, everyone.
02:53Cheers.
02:56Cheers.
03:20I just feel like every single thing I say is wrong.
03:24Every word, every utterance.
03:26She pounces on it like a wild animal.
03:29Yeah.
03:30She certainly has a way with her words, your missus.
03:36I thought you'd never ask.
03:37It's only duty-free.
03:41It's Kira's stuff.
03:43Can't still be swimming, can she?
08:18her and her body being found, you were...
08:21We were all together having dinner.
08:26Look, it wasn't one of us, okay?
08:29Nobody told us that we were going to be grilled like this.
08:31None of us have even been to bed.
08:33And I took a sleeping pill.
08:38Don't apologise for me, Alistair.
08:40You know I hate it when you do that.
08:41Sorry, dear.
08:42And don't call me dear, either.
08:44No, of course not. Sorry. Forgot.
08:47OK. Well, if you think of anything, let us know.
08:54God help us.
09:02I spoke with the staff who can alibi each other for the time of the murder.
09:06They were preparing dinner between 7 and 9.
09:09You think you're listening?
09:11I'm listening.
09:12Just checking, sir.
09:13What did they say about the victim?
09:15Well, that she was a decent boss.
09:17Always paid them on time.
09:18Was friendly.
09:19Any idea it'd want to harm her?
09:20No.
09:21They reckon she didn't really know anyone here.
09:23Never saw her go out much.
09:25Kept herself to herself.
09:26I checked her phone.
09:28All her texts and all her emails, work-related.
09:31Apart from her mum back in England.
09:33How's she doing?
09:34Not great.
09:36We said we'd speak tomorrow when she might be a little bit calmer.
09:39I found this.
09:42The date and time is yesterday.
09:465.52 in the afternoon.
09:49That's just over an hour before her swim.
09:59It's the weekend now, but Monday will be a big day.
10:03I have exciting plans and I think that there could be a real breakthrough.
10:12My instinct on this is that a lie is being told.
10:17If I can draw out the truth, the fallout would be truly devastating.
10:27And only a couple of hours later, she's been murdered.
10:30You're thinking one of the guests here did it?
10:33I'm thinking maybe one of them did.
10:37On one hand, all the four guests were having dinner together at the time of Kira Mayhew's murder.
10:44Now look, there are only two cameras in the resort.
10:47Just before 7 o'clock, Kira Mayhew goes for a swim.
10:50But on the other hand, all the guests leave the table once during the evening.
10:54So, in theory, it could have been any one of them.
10:58Alright, um...
11:00Now here.
11:01At 18 minutes past 7, Mr. Hartnell goes to his bedroom to get his glasses.
11:06And in here, 7.46, Stacey Wava goes to the bathroom to check her makeup.
11:12And at 8.03, Mrs. Hartnell goes to grab her shawl.
11:16And after that, at 8.30, Luke Wava goes to his bedroom to get a bottle of rum.
11:23So, each of them had opportunity to kill the victim during the dinner?
11:27Except, on the other hand, no one leaves the table for more than two to three minutes.
11:33And they all returned dry as a bone.
11:36Okay, so how did one of them manage to leave the dinner table,
11:40run down to the beach,
11:41get themselves somehow out to sea 100 meters,
11:45drown Kira Mayhew,
11:46then come all the way back,
11:48dry off,
11:49before returning to the table
11:51in less than a few minutes.
11:54Well,
11:55that's just not possible.
11:58Well,
11:59that's just not possible.
12:08All right, Sebastian.
12:09I'll read the victim's notebook.
12:11You make us start listening to these tapes.
12:14Focus on the ones recorded since the four suspects arrived.
12:17Yeah.
12:18Oh, these tapes are teeny tiny.
12:21Look,
12:21they make me look like a giant.
12:23Says the giants.
12:24Hmm.
12:26So,
12:27printed the victim's schedule the day of her murder.
12:29Trust exercises in the morning.
12:31Sounds fun.
12:32Lunch,
12:33followed by
12:34one-to-one sessions in the afternoon
12:36with Stacey Walbert,
12:38then Alistair Hartnell.
12:39Inspector,
12:40I came to check in on the murder case.
12:43The minister gets nervous
12:45when one of our resorts is hit by a crime.
12:47I'd like to reassure her
12:49it's in hand.
12:51Yes, sir.
12:52We're currently working on the basis
12:54that one of the four residents did it.
12:57We just need to work out which one it was
12:59and how they did it
13:00and why.
13:02So,
13:03pretty much everything.
13:05Come on.
13:07You look smart,
13:09sir.
13:10Going somewhere nice?
13:11Yacht club.
13:12Lobster night.
13:14Hmm?
13:17Lobster night, eh?
13:19That's why you're looking so snappy.
13:23You know,
13:24it's snappy.
13:25Like,
13:26claws.
13:27No, no, no.
13:27Lobster claws.
13:28I get the joke,
13:29inspector.
13:30I just
13:31didn't find it very funny.
13:35Enjoy your evenings?
13:37You too, sir.
13:38Snappy.
13:39Like claws, you know.
13:43Nope.
13:43I need to get this.
13:46Hello, mate.
13:49Excuse me,
13:50commissioner.
13:53Anton
13:54Mousset.
13:56How long has it been since we last...
13:58crossed paths?
13:59Or were you going to say,
14:01crossed swords?
14:02I hadn't decided
14:03before you got me off.
14:07How can I help you,
14:08Mr. Mousset?
14:09Anton,
14:10please.
14:11We're going to publish an article about you,
14:14commissioner,
14:14and I want to give you the right
14:16to respond.
14:18Here is a draft copy of the piece.
14:23Let me know when you're ready to talk.
14:30Inspector,
14:31that was your contact at the Met,
14:32wasn't it?
14:33You know where Solomon is?
14:35Palm Beach Hotel.
14:36I'm coming with you.
14:55It's something I could easily live without.
14:58But once you have your own private jet,
15:00it's hard to give that up, you know?
15:02I love it.
15:04Ladies,
15:05here's what fun night, right?
15:11Solomon.
15:13Mervin!
15:14Oh!
15:15I'm just seeing you here, man.
15:17We're just talking about you.
15:18Come, come, come, come, come, come.
15:20Meet Tashel
15:22and Tashana.
15:23This is my brother,
15:25would you believe?
15:25Mervin!
15:26We're half-brothers.
15:27Where's my stuff?
15:28You stole from me,
15:29and I want my things back.
15:30I never stole anything.
15:32He gets confused sometimes.
15:34Had a bump to his head
15:35a few years back.
15:35Solomon!
15:37I'm not joking around.
15:38You get me my things now,
15:40or I arrest you.
15:41It's your choice.
15:43Okay, man.
15:44I understand.
15:46Let me just...
15:56I'm fine.
15:57I'm fine.
15:58I'm fine.
15:58Get him!
16:22They can have assaulting a police officer to theft them breaking and entering.
16:25Mervyn, my brother, please don't do this to me.
16:29I'm sorry, all right? I just...
16:32I really needed the money.
16:34I'm in debt.
16:35And it's to the kind of person you don't much want to be in debt to.
16:41I'm sorry I let you down, I just...
16:45I didn't know what else to do.
16:47I just need my stuff back, Sol.
16:5024 hours.
16:52Otherwise, I'm pressing charges. Do you understand?
16:55I appreciate it, ma'am.
17:12So, we dusted the bingo ball for prints, sir, like you requested, but got nothing from it.
17:18Oh. Oh, well. Worth a try, eh?
17:22Right. What else we got?
17:24We've done background on both couples.
17:27The Hartnells live in Islington in London.
17:31He's a barrister. She runs a luxury interior design business.
17:35Ah, very Islington.
17:36They did a brief spell of grief counselling with another therapist shortly after their daughter died.
17:42She was only 17.
17:45Seems their marriage has been struggling ever since.
17:48What about the Warbers?
17:50Also live in London.
17:52Luke works in finance, earns well.
17:54Has been married to Stacey for three years.
17:56I've been reading the victim's notes on both couples.
18:00She records a lot after her sessions with them, especially on the dictaphone.
18:04But it's okay.
18:06Officer Rose is working on it.
18:08Yes.
18:09Yes, I am.
18:10I am totally on top of it.
18:12So, don't you worry, Inspector.
18:15It seems the Warbers came out here because they've been having intimacy issues.
18:21It's been 18 months since they were last intimate with each other.
18:26When you say intimate, you mean intimate?
18:29Yes.
18:30And according to the notes, the issue is entirely on Luke's side.
18:34And in one of their last sessions, Miss Mayhew got him to admit why he was like this.
18:41Go on.
18:4218 months ago, Luke was unfaithful.
18:45He had a one night thing.
18:46Naughty, naughty boy.
18:48Mm-hmm.
18:49With him wife's sister.
18:51Cha-cha.
18:52Oh, sorry, what?
18:54Mm-hmm.
18:55And ever since, he's been wracked with guilt and shame.
18:57Why?
18:58He's been a busy, busy man.
19:00I mean, that explains why he can't do the business.
19:03Mm-hmm.
19:04Now, Kira told him that he needs to confront it.
19:09That he can't ignore it anymore.
19:12She was suggesting he tell Stacey.
19:14I think she knew their marriage couldn't move forward based on a betrayal like that.
19:17That's...
19:19Is that what Kira Mayhew was referring to when she said...
19:23My instinct on this is that a lie is being told.
19:27So Luke killed her to silence her?
19:31Stop the truth coming out?
20:02It's a cliche, isn't it?
20:03It was like I was proving myself that I've still got it too, you know?
20:07But something in you must have wanted to come clean because you admitted it to Kira Mayhew.
20:12I thought she'd help.
20:13In what way?
20:14Absolve me of the guilt if I opened up?
20:18I think that's a priest you're after.
20:19But all she said was that the marriage couldn't survive if it was built on a betrayal like that.
20:26She's normally so calm and measured but with that...
20:30It really bothered her.
20:32Like she wasn't going to let it go.
20:35And that's what worried you.
20:37Panicked you that she would tell Stacey herself.
20:40And then you'd lose your gorgeous wife completely.
20:42But you weren't going to let that happen and that is why you murdered Kira Mayhew.
20:46No! No.
20:48That's why I've come to you because I know what it looks like.
20:52But it wasn't me who killed her.
20:55I swear to you.
20:59All right.
21:01That's all for now.
21:16What a moron.
21:18Sir?
21:22Inspector.
21:24Post-mortem's in.
21:26Confirms what we thought.
21:28Water in the victim's lungs.
21:30Confirms she died due to drowning.
21:31Finger marks on her shoulders and neck suggest she was forced under the water.
21:38But how did the killer manage to do it?
21:40To leave from the dinner table here.
21:42Run down to the beach.
21:44Drown Kira then get back to the dinner table.
21:47Seemingly with not a spot of water on them.
21:49And in just a few minutes.
21:52And how does this figure into all of this?
21:54Why was it at our crime scene?
21:56You do know things get washed up on beaches all the time.
22:00Yeah.
22:01But a bingo ball.
22:05Officer Rose.
22:08Officer Rose.
22:11Officer Rose.
22:13Huh?
22:14Have you made any progress with the tapes yet?
22:16No progress as such.
22:18But I assure you, when I get something you'll be the first to know.
22:21Inspector, I just spoke with the victim's mum, Sandra.
22:24Go on.
22:25To this day, her mum doesn't know why Kira left the UK.
22:30She didn't just want a change of scene?
22:32No.
22:32It was totally out of the blue.
22:34Overnight, Kira left her fiancé.
22:37Announced that she was setting up a practice abroad.
22:39Never even kept in touch with any of her friends.
22:41So it got me thinking.
22:44Could Kira Mayhew's murder be connected to something that happened back in the UK?
22:52Also, sir, Kira's mum spoke with her just before that swim, while she was heading down to the beach.
23:02And she's...
23:04Officer Rose, see what's going on out there, will you?
23:11Anyway.
23:12She said Kira seemed distracted.
23:16Distant, even.
23:17Her mum said it was like she wasn't even present.
23:20Inspector.
23:21Some big-headed brother in our sports car is asking for you.
23:35So, you got my stuff then?
23:38Not in a physical sense, no.
23:40What's that supposed to mean?
23:41Been a busy day.
23:42Bit of business here, bit of business there.
23:44Always somewhere I got to be in Salomon land.
23:49But, I know who has your thing, so...
23:54Jump in and let's go get them.
24:05So, this is where all my stuff is.
24:07Nice.
24:09It's Myrtle Chastanet's place.
24:11You ever come across her?
24:12No.
24:13Funnily enough.
24:14She's the kind of person you go to if you have some things to sell it.
24:17Maybe other people may be less inclined to...
24:19So, she fencing stolen goods?
24:20It's not for me to put a label on what...
24:22So, that's a yes.
24:24We'll have you reunited with your stuff in no time.
24:27She's a very amenable woman.
24:31Who is it?
24:32Myrtle?
24:33It's Salomon Clark, remember me?
24:35Got my brother here with me.
24:37It was his stuff I sold you and...
24:40We were wondering if we could get it back.
24:42No!
24:43No, clear up!
24:45Myrtle!
24:46Honey!
24:47Don't you honey me, buster!
24:48She's a lot more vexed than I remember her being before.
24:50Myrtle!
24:51I'm going to cut to the chase.
24:53You are currently in possession of items illegally taken from my home.
24:58Myrtle!
25:02I think she's thinking about it.
25:09Myrtle!
25:10What the...
25:11What's she doing that for?
25:13What is this stuff?
25:16It's in my eyes!
25:18It's burning!
25:19Hot sauce!
25:19God!
25:20Why'd she pour hot sauce over me?
25:22I don't know man!
25:23Oh!
25:24But it got to admit...
25:25God!
25:25Kind of funny!
25:27Hehehehe!
25:28What?
25:30Myrtle!
25:30What are you playing at?
25:31How much hot sauce has she got?
25:33Why has she got so much of it?
25:34I think it's some bullet teeth she's got going on!
25:35And if there's no central package, then I will set Tiberius on you!
25:39Who's Tiberius?
25:42Feels like we come at a bad time.
25:44Maybe we should come back another day!
25:49They're threatening to publish this article.
25:54Doesn't hold back, does it?
25:57After everything I've done for this island,
26:01this is the thanks I receive.
26:04And the fact that Anton Busset is sharpening the knives
26:07because I'm no surprise to me.
26:10You and he have history?
26:13Because I have no respect for this gossip mongering rag.
26:17This isn't journalism.
26:20This is attention-rubbing rhetoric.
26:25What?
26:29This island petitioned to get you your job back
26:33and you walked away without any explanation?
26:36Like you didn't care?
26:38And now, months later,
26:40you come back as if nothing happened.
26:43I do care.
26:46You know that.
26:47But others don't.
26:49All they know is that the commissioner of police
26:53abandoned them.
26:56It's up to you.
26:57It's up to you to change their minds.
27:01My eyes won't stop singing, man.
27:03Tell me about it.
27:04The sun should go down into my trousers.
27:09I'm telling you, Mervyn.
27:11There's hot sauce in place.
27:12This hot sauce is not supposed to go, Mervyn, man.
27:14Oh, my God.
27:22That's some mighty fiery sauce
27:24Mervyn cooking up.
27:26Look at us, we're covered in this stuff.
27:29Like a couple of chicken wings.
27:46you're a liability so you know that my life has been turned upside down since
27:56you came into it yeah I kind of have that effect I can't live like that man I'm a detective
28:08inspector
28:09do you understand that and I need my clothes back and I need to not be chasing around after you
28:21this is not how I
28:31I'm sorry I'm on
28:52I'm on
29:11oh hey sarge yeah right there you same boat yeah just um yeah what you doing here been having drinks
29:19to the friend from Jamaica I was just on my way home when I see the lights are on and
29:24I realize
29:24officer Rose is working late why is officer Rose working late I'm asking myself yeah just um going
29:34through these tips still still on these tips and which one you're on now then tip tip number two to
29:47tip
29:47two is that all I'm sorry sarge is just every time I start listening my mind just wonder somewhere else
29:55then I start thinking about other things so then I rewind the tip to the beginning but then the same
30:01thing happens all over again it's just my brain you know can get a bit fidgety sometimes like I know
30:14what I'm what I'm meant to be doing and I intentionally try to do it what my mind just does
30:19is own a thing I just want to finish this
30:28hmm
30:29all right
30:31how about
30:33we go through this together you and me
30:37you sure sarge
30:38I know if it was me here needing assistance
30:42you would do exactly the same thing
30:45right
30:48no
30:51I'm just joking of course I would no question
30:54so there you go then
30:57all right let's do this thing
31:03my boy
31:05whew
31:06so
31:07you have a good time with your friend
31:08oh it was cool you know
31:10yeah
31:10nice to hear all the gossip going on back in Kingston
31:16you know you never did tell me why you left Jamaica
31:26I left
31:27because of a guy I was seeing
31:31things got complicated
31:33between us
31:35and um
31:38I just realized the best thing that I could do
31:43was just to turn and walk away
31:52all right
31:55all right
32:13well
32:13you know
32:13I like this one
32:14because I don't think you could do it
32:26good morning isaac good morning good morning clarence good morning ah how old was the catch
32:34this morning so so let me look let me look let me see okay i i want that one there
32:41that big one
32:46good morning sash morning inspector i'm here we got your message
33:05so i was doing a bit of nosy in a rat in the old place and uh bingo literally oh
33:10so that's where
33:11it came from yeah apparently this place used to be a resort for the over 60s so this must have
33:16been
33:16here since then okay so how do you explain one of those bingo balls ending up on the same beach
33:23as
33:23our crime scene well it didn't magic itself there did it somebody must have taken it from this
33:29so we're gonna have to dust it for prints i could do that for you sir oh nice one
33:36how about you two you got something so the tapes care of me who recorded over the last week there
33:42was 10 hours of it and throughout it all when she talks about alistair and margot hartnell
33:47she doesn't once mention they lost their daughter she was only 17 seems their marriage has been
33:54struggling ever since which was kind of odd right so we did some digging their daughter charlotte was
34:03killed in a car accident a hit and run but a person who did it was never found all that
34:09was known was
34:10that it was a female driver only the hit and run happened outside the family home in islington
34:17kira mayhew's practice was just over a mile away also it happened on the first of april 2021 and kira
34:25mayhew she moved over here six weeks later is it possible that that's what it was kira was behind a
34:33car
34:34accident that's good work a pair of you well done you can get that dusted and uh we're going to
34:42talk to
34:42the heart knows we didn't come here because we suspected kira mayhew was a woman who killed our
34:53daughter we came in a last-ditch attempt to save our marriage truly we did then why did you never
35:00mention to miss mayhew the fact that you lost your daughter by your own admission your relationship
35:06problem started five years ago at the same time we didn't talk about it with her because we never
35:15talk about it it's easier if we don't well i'll go twice bless her or used to you know to
35:21try to get
35:21me to open up but i just can't bear it i don't want to lose her i want to fix
35:30our marriage but
35:31i can't if i have to churn all that up again i'm just not strong enough it's all right my
35:39love
35:51if the heart knows didn't come here for revenge and the question still remains why did kira mayhew
35:56leave london five years ago what happened to make us suddenly up sticks and move to the other side of
36:00the world please give me a call when you get this just just let me know you're okay
36:11so it's stacy i think she's had a meltdown i haven't seen her since yesterday
36:17i think she knew i think kira told her about me and her sister
36:24mishnah everything all right
36:27we'll look into it
36:42i saw she was upset crying so i went over as soon as she said she was staying at the
36:49conference retreat
36:50i've called you couldn't get much from her except she didn't want me to phone her husband
36:58yeah well that's hardly surprising
37:02uh sir um maybe i should take this one
37:20everyone knows don't they only us may i
37:31can you tell me when you found out mrs warbur
37:37thursday night i went to get some air on the beach and kira was there
37:42she'd been drinking she'd not seen it like that she'd always been so composed she could hardly
37:48stand up so i helped her back to her bungalow
37:52she was sort of rambling talking about some guy who had betrayed her back in england before
37:57she moved here i'd been cheating on her i got her home and put her on the couch and she
38:04looked
38:04me in the eyes and spoke to me like it really mattered
38:08don't be like me
38:11don't stacy
38:12there was just something in the way she'd said it
38:15then i knew she'd had a one-to-one session with luke that day and maybe
38:19whatever he'd said had like
38:21triggered her
38:23reminded her of her own betrayal that's why she was drunk
38:27so when she was asleep i saw her notebook
38:34i felt sick
38:36couldn't even process it
38:39couldn't even breathe
38:42so i just pretended i didn't know
38:45stacy you've been through a lot in the last couple of days
38:51if you were in denial
38:53if kira was pressing you to confront what you'd found out
38:57no i didn't
39:00i admit there was all this pent up stuff inside me but i didn't kill kira
39:04i swear
39:14all right
39:15well thank you for talking with me mr shaw
39:19what did the ex-boyfriend have to say for himself
39:21the ex-fiancé
39:23the affair he was having had been going on for three whole years behind kira's back when she found out
39:29wow that must have flawed her
39:31i mean her job is to provide relationship advice
39:34and all the time she was blind to a three year long deception
39:37explains why she suddenly upped and left for another country
39:41and why luke's betrayal triggered her so much
39:43and why she had one or three over the limit
39:46but it still doesn't explain why she was murdered three nights ago
39:52inspector deus thomas i think we got something
40:01patrick campbell
40:03hospital therapist
40:33consultation fee
40:33and for people dealing with traumatic experiences
40:35and according to mr combo
40:37it's a pretty unorthodox approach for kira to resort to hypnotherapy so early on in the process
40:43but she was convinced it was necessary
40:45so this forgotten memory
40:47do we know what it's to do with
40:49the night their daughter was killed in a hit and run five years ago
40:52mrs hartnell does not remember a thing about it
40:57but ever since she's been growing this feeling of guilt
41:01you know
41:02like maybe she might have done something bad that night
41:07wait
41:08wait
41:08you don't mean
41:11all that was known
41:13was that it was a female driver
41:15and mrs hartnell wanted it all off the record
41:18that's why there was nothing in her notes or recordings
41:23right
41:24we need to talk to mrs hartnell and that therapist
41:26we need him here sharpish
41:27come on
41:30well at first it was just guilt i felt
41:33our grief counsellor said it was normal as a parent to feel a sense of responsibility
41:39look whatever i did five years ago i want the truth to come out
41:42if you think i killed kira mayhew because i wanted to stop that happening you're wrong
41:47she arranged for me to have hypnotherapy today
41:50well that can still happen mrs hartnell
41:53we've arranged for a hypnotherapist to speak with you
41:56if you feel you're able
41:59inspector
42:01if you wouldn't mind going with sergeant fletcher
42:04yeah
42:09i guess all we can do now is wait
42:17ah
42:18we're back to the bingo ball
42:20inspector
42:22serge
42:23just got back from dusting off the bingo ball machine for print
42:26once
42:27unfortunately
42:28nothing
42:34what's up with the inspector
42:36am i right
42:40inspector
42:41everything all right sir you've got something
42:45sir what are you doing
42:49it's a little experiment
42:51it's a little experiment
42:52the bingo balls float
43:12okay so why take it out of the bingo ball cage thingy
43:19and bring it to the sea
43:20and bring it to the sea
43:20to the water's edge
43:22was it just to see if it floats
43:24or
43:26maybe it's to see where it goes
43:33in which case
43:34in which case
43:35so how did one of them manage to leave the dinner table
43:37run down to the beach
43:39somehow get themselves a hundred meters out to sea
43:41drown kira mayhew
43:43none of them left the table for more than two to three minutes at a time
43:47and was that a regular thing or going for a swim at that time
43:51like most evenings
43:52she said kira seemed distracted
44:00of course
44:02that's why you were there you little beauty
44:09okay i need to speak to a fisherman
44:11or an oceanographer ologist type of person
44:14basically anyone who knows the currents in this bay
44:16deus thomas i need a toxicology report done on kira mayhew
44:19officer rose i need you to collect some evidence from her office
44:23but you know who did it
44:25i do
44:25and i know how they managed to drown kira mayhew
44:29a hundred meters out of sea
44:31without even stepping a foot in the water
44:33come on
44:38for those wondering why margot hartnell isn't here with us
44:42it's because she's currently with a hypnotherapist
44:44doing what she was always supposed to be doing today
44:47trying to recover a buried memory
44:50of what really happened five years ago
44:52the night her daughter died
44:55why am i telling you this
44:57because margot's therapy sessions
44:59were meant to be conducted by kira mayhew
45:02until somebody tried to stop the truth from coming out
45:06by murdering her
45:08mr hartnell
45:13me i i did no such thing
45:16oh
45:16oh but you did
45:17i know you did
45:18but how i was at dinner when it happened
45:21on dry bloody land
45:22yeah you were
45:23which is why it was so clever of you
45:26but now that i've got a better understanding of what's gone on
45:29i believe you created a small window of opportunity
45:32in which to commit murder
45:33but not a hundred meters out at sea
45:36you drown kira mayhew right outside your own bungalow
45:42because from the very start of this case
45:45we've worked on the assumption that as miss mayhew's body was discovered
45:49100 meters out at sea in a straight line from where she swam
45:53that's where she was drowned
45:55but what if actually when miss mayhew went for her evening dip
46:00she preferred to swim along the shore
46:03rather than out from it
46:06that would mean she'd have to swim past your bungalow
46:10further along the beach
46:12and that would give you opportunity to commit murder
46:17but when i told you i was at dinner when it happened
46:21yeah we have security camera footage
46:23that shows you leaving the dinner table
46:26to get your glasses
46:27at 18 minutes past seven
46:29i was gone
46:30what a couple of minutes three minutes at the most
46:33you're not seriously suggesting
46:35i was able to physically drown a fit and healthy woman in that time
46:39without getting soaked in water
46:41yeah sounds impossible right
46:44but i don't think miss mayhew was as fit and healthy as she might normally be
46:49i believe you sedated her
46:53we know that your wife uses sleeping pills
46:56none of us been to bed
46:57and i took a sleeping pill
47:00and we also know that you are the last person to have a one-to-one session with miss mayhew
47:04that day at 5pm
47:06one-to-one sessions in the afternoon with Stacy Warbur
47:09then Alistair Hartnell
47:12and while there
47:15we believe you spiked her drink
47:19when she wasn't looking
47:21we didn't believe Kira was drugged
47:23because the finger marks on her neck suggested she was held down by force and drowned
47:27we're awaiting the toxicology report and results from the glass Kira drank from
47:32and have no doubt we'll get confirmation that there were significant traces of sleeping pills in her system
47:39and so while miss mayhew was swimming she suddenly felt drowsy and swam ashore
47:48when you returned to your bungalow under the pretense of getting your glasses
47:53you ran down to the beach where miss mayhew was lying unconscious on the sand
47:57and then you did two things
48:00first you grabbed her neck and shoulders making sure to leave bruises
48:05so it would look like someone had strangled her and forced her under the water
48:10before moving her into the sea for her to be carried away making sure that she was face down
48:18so that still unconscious her lungs would fill with water
48:22it took less than a minute
48:25all you had to do now was hurry back to the dinner table and leave Kira to drown
48:30and let the sea do the rest of the work for you
48:35we checked with a local oceanologist at the university
48:39and the current in this bay moves in a north westerly direction
48:43which means it would have carried miss mayhew's body diagonally
48:48taking her from your bungalow here to where her body was discovered here
48:54and with her clothes being left on the beach here
48:57we'd all assume she swam in a straight line
49:02now you had no idea where the currents would take Kira's body
49:06so you had to test it first didn't you?
49:11you went and found this
49:14and you threw it into the sea to observe which route it took
49:17which was conveniently in a north westerly direction
49:20from your bungalow directly to where Kira began her nightly swim
49:23and that's when your plan finally came together
49:27Kira's body was found still at sea
49:30not long after she drowned
49:32but this ball left overnight
49:34ended up washing up ashore
49:36and that was your undoing
49:38but why would he do this to her?
49:41because he didn't want Kira to help his wife remember
49:44well remember what?
49:46what he did
49:54I remember
49:55I remember
49:56I remember all of it
50:02all the horror of it
50:05you rushing in
50:06and telling me someone had hurt our little girl
50:11and I remember
50:12and I remember
50:12the ambulance
50:13and the police
50:15and the shock
50:17and the pain
50:20and I remember you coming in
50:25and holding me in tears shaking
50:29both of us heartbroken
50:34and I remember
50:36and I remember
50:36in that moment
50:39the smell of alcohol
50:41on your breath
50:45and I remember
50:46coming back inside
50:51and seeing you
50:58I checked the original case file Mr Hartnell
51:01and the phone call to the police
51:04in which the hit and run driver
51:05was described as female
51:08came from an anonymous caller
51:11that was you wasn't it?
51:13trying to direct suspicion away from yourself
51:23I would have lost everything
51:33Alistair Hartnell
51:35I'm arresting you on suspicion of the murder of Kira Mayhew
51:38you don't have to say anything
51:39but it may harm your defence if you do not mention when questioned
51:43something you later rely on in court
51:58I never want to see you ever again
52:16Well, well, well
52:18Good evening to you both
52:19Good evening
52:20Catherine, we spoke at Marian Edwards' charity barbecue I think
52:25I don't remember
52:27I certainly enjoyed our little chat
52:32Commissioner, can I get you a rum?
52:33That won't be necessary
52:35This won't take that long
52:36Think I'll have one, Catherine, if you wouldn't mind?
52:41I appreciate you giving me an advance copy of the article
52:45Here is my written statement in response
52:51Saying...
52:52I agree with every single word you've written
52:59Sorry?
53:00After receiving some sage advice from my good friend here
53:04As I say in my statement
53:07It hurt to think that the bond I had forged with this island had been broken
53:13But the circumstances were of my own making
53:17So, I will be the one to fix it
53:20And how will you do that?
53:22As of tomorrow, I will be commencing an initiative with my team
53:26And with a little help from the island's mayor
53:29An initiative to strengthen our relationship with the community
53:35So, if you'll excuse me, I have work to do
53:39Good evening
53:44Well...
53:45He just killed my article, didn't he?
53:49With one single shot
53:52I think he maybe just has
53:57Enjoy your evening
54:32I'm sorry, mate
54:33That's my hat
54:54Yeah
54:54Hey, so
54:56Look
54:57I just got home
54:58And
54:59I saw you brought all my stuff back
55:01Oh, you know
55:03Worked the old Solomon Clark magic
55:05Yeah, well, I just wanted to say thank you
55:07Did you have to give Myrtle their money back?
55:10I mean, you're not in debt still, are you?
55:12Ah, don't worry yourself
55:14Anyway, man
55:14Got to get the boat back to Antigua
55:17Got some business over there that needs attendant, huh?
55:20Of course you have
55:21I mean, there's always something going on in Solomonland, right?
55:25You said it
55:30Um, look, ah, what about us now?
55:35I mean, what do we do next?
55:39I don't know, man
55:40Like you said, I am troubled
55:43A detective doesn't need that in his life
55:45Look, so, I didn't mean...
55:47Maybe I shouldn't have
55:49Said, Dan
55:50No disrespect to you, bro
55:52But
55:53Ain't much good to me having a police officer around
55:56Got a reputation to keep
55:58Yeah, yeah, no, I...
55:59Totally understand
56:03Look, man
56:05We tried this and
56:08Maybe it just wasn't meant to be, you know?
56:10Look after yourself, brother
56:12Yeah, you did
56:14Look, Solomon
56:20I...
56:42Give me every morning
56:43To do your learning
56:45Your learning
56:47What you're doing
56:49Is wrong
56:51I saw you passing by
56:57Hello, neighbor
56:58Quiet morning
56:59Was
57:00Henry Ashby
57:02Moved to St. Marie ten years ago
57:04Henry was definitely mixed up in something murky
57:06The victim's copy of this book was missing from his bookshelf
57:08So, where is it?
57:10I need
57:10To
57:12Reassure you
57:13That this island
57:13Still matters
57:14To me
57:15Why did the detective not bother showing up?
57:18Why was your moped seen outside the victim's villa
57:21Up in the hills?
57:22Did you ever catch them, Inspector?
57:24I'd sleep much better knowing you did
57:25It wasn't
57:26Me!
57:42To be continued...
57:47To be continued...
