00:00It was a very good briefing with the Foreign Secretary on all the issues to deal with the Iran war
00:09that were not covered in the earlier briefing when he was himself not present.
00:13This time he gave us a comprehensive view. There were a lot of questions asked, 17 members attended and all
00:19of them had very serious questions for the Foreign Secretary.
00:22But we do want to particularly say on record one of the things that many members expressed was a very
00:28high appreciation for the diligent, hardworking and courageous work of our embassy in Tehran and our diplomatic force throughout the
00:37Gulf.
00:37It has been remarkable to see how much has been done by our people, our diplomats, the military wing in
00:44the Tehran embassy, everyone has been doing a terrific job.
00:47And I think the country owes them all a debt of gratitude. The diplomats are not often appreciated enough because
00:53they are not on the front pages of the newspapers.
00:57But what they are doing is very, very valuable to the country.
00:59Sir, whether the discussion between the parties in West Asia, including U.S., Israel and the relationship as far as
01:12India is concerned, it was discussed?
01:14All of this was discussed, our relationship with every single significant country in the region and beyond.
01:21Larger questions of strategy, energy security, geopolitics, Pakistan's role.
01:27You can't imagine every question that could have been raised has been raised.
01:31And I think you will find that there is a certain appreciation of this ongoing dialogue between the Foreign Ministry
01:37and the committee.
01:38The committee has felt very much that we are taken into confidence in the right sort of way.
01:44And I think that we, in turn, want to be constructive in our criticisms, questions and challenges to the government
01:51for ourselves as parliamentarians to represent the voice of the people of India.
01:56It has been a good exercise.
01:57But we all agree that this is not something we need to talk about publicly.
